We stayed here for 5 nights and loved it!
Laundry in the room was amazing. Big comfy rooms. Nice bathroom areas.

Top value, top service! No issue whatsoever staying at this hotel. The hotel is right by a very quaint river with willows lining the banks, very romantic.

Staff are really nice they gave us a tour at thr start. The Tatami rooms are really nice, gives the real japanese feeling. Really large. 2 toilets.

The hotel has a great location, close to the station, and within walking distance of many attractions. The shopping centre is just a few minutes' walk away. The hotel service was excellent.

It’s in a very popular location — right in front of the Kawa River, and within walking distance to Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu Temple.

So happy with the stay, two large double beds for a fantastic price. Quite sizeable as bathroom and bedroom have a joining little hall.

I stayed here, mid November for 6 nights. It was wonderful. Due to jetlag I had to check in a day late. I notified the hotel staff via email and they were very understanding and responsive.

Our family enjoyed the Japanese experience. The host was charming, eccentric and always helpful.
The sleeping room is large and comfortable. The garden is peaceful and the breakfast just right.

A traditional house in the heart of Kyoto, very close to many points of interest including the Gion district and the very famous Kyomizu-dera.

We stayed at the Shinmonzen for two nights while on a trip to Japan for our honeymoon. They went above and beyond in absolutely every way.

I have been fortunate to stay at some of the top hotels in the world, and no where have I had a more meaningful stay than at the Shinmonzen.

Comfortable beds and reasonable sized room, plenty of amenities and in a good location near to old streets of Gion and close to two subway stations.

Great location in the heart of Gion so you can stroll at night the touristy spot nearby without the crowd (go to the shrine near the park it’s stunning at night).

I had a really lovely stay here, the place feels super peaceful and traditional.
It’s in the heart of Gion however it is very quiet and private. Perfect if you want.

The self check in is great if that's your speed, but can present issues when trying to receive mail.

The service here was wonderful, the food was great, the location is phenomenal. The traditional room & yuzu bath were a nice respite after a long day of exploring Kyoto.

Incredible experience all around. Some of the best breakfasts we’ve had anywhere either beautiful presentation and attentive to our dietary restrictions.

Great Staff and big rooms.

Lovely place with charming old ladies running it. Their English is not great but somehow you manage to understand them. Curfew at 23:00 and closed until 07:00.

A lovely Royokan just off the main strip in Kyoto, super close to nishiki market. The lady that runs it is super nice and helpful.

Our stay at Matsui Bekkan Hanakanzashi exceeded expectations. The room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully traditional while still offering modern comfort.

A hotel with really good size rooms in Kyoto! Enough for two large suitcases to be open on the floor. Unheard of in Japan!

Room was very chill, but mattress was very hard.
I could Hear the springs when I was breathing.

Dimly lit room, no good lighting anywhere, average service and amenities at the place, location not the best. Does the job but I personally would spend more for somewhere more convenient.

Excellent hotel centrally located in Gion, highly walkable to top sights, restaurants, small local shops and massive shopping malls. The staff is great, friendly and efficient.

Steps from the hotel is Sanjo Station on the Keihan Main Line and honestly, this alone is reason enough to stay here.

We stayed at the Kaikoan for four nights and we absolutely loved it!
When we arrived we were greeted by Sumi-san and Chie who made us feel very welcome.

Couldn’t recommend Kaikoan enough. The hosts were so lovely and helpful.

Okami was a fabulous and generous host! We had an amazing stay and felt so welcomed and cared for.

Absolutely incredible! The room was amazing, with a room-sized shower and separate hot tub/private onsen. The breakfast is both traditional Japanese and Western in style, and it's absolute delicious.

Cannot stress how great it was. Authentic place perfectly located, and each and every staff member went above and beyond for anything at anytime.

Shogetsu is an excellent kaiseki restaurant. The host, Ayano san, helps foreigners new to kaiseki feel very welcomed with her warm and approachable hospitality.

A lovely family run establishment. The service is lovely, the ladies are so nice and knowledgeable. The food is great, it is a unique Japanese meal. Loved it!

Rooms are great and well equipped. Loved the washer/dryer system with the ventilation in the bathroom, I washed my clothes after showering at night and they were dry by the morning.

Hotel is located on a quieter somewhat residential neighborhood with little shops tucked here and there. We travelled with 2 adults and 2 teenagers.
