Kyoto Hotels near Old Rissei Elementary School

Pros:
-Staff are beyond nice and very helpful!
-Zashiki Twin Room was actually massive by any hotel standards, not just Japan hotel standards.
-Room was super cute, futons were comfy.

I couldn’t have picked a better place to stay in Kyoto!

Wow! No words. This place is sensational. Top luxury amenities with a small ryokan personal feel. Centrally located walkable to important sites. Will stay here again!

I happened to randomly find this hotel while searching for areas to stay for our trip to Kyoto, and I’m so incredibly happy I did.

Super duper recommend this place. I don't say it often, but this is a hidden gem.

The room is very nice because have the tatami bed and that I like the most is the service and the location is very good because the hotel give us manga to read and the place near fresco the

The hotel is great and has a really great location. The room is a bit too small for 4 people but for Japanese standards it’s okay. We really wished there was a accessible table.

I just moved from a 4 star to this 3 star and the beds are bigger, comfier and the room is more spacious. Self check in was simple, Wi-Fi works and AC too.

Just enjoyed our 5D4N at Kyoto & we stayed at Hiz Hotel Gion Shirakawa as our base. Very charming apartment hotel.

We recently spent 7 days (6 nights) at STAY Sakura Kyoto Higashiyama Shirakawa in mid-April.

We stayed here for 5 nights and loved it!
Laundry in the room was amazing. Big comfy rooms. Nice bathroom areas.
The location is great!

Went here for lunch. Found this little gem by coincidence. Friendly staff, good food (had the 4 dishes meal with beef), and a true japanese experience with private rooms and seeted on the floor.

One of the most memorable places in the time I was living in Japan, just because it is raw traditional and hidden gem, doing this review just to find it later when I go back.

This was our favourite hotel in Japan.
The location is very central to Kyoto, but did not feel too crowded and overwhelming.

My partner and I stayed at sequence for 3 nights in October 2025 in a twin room.
We initially chose it for the amenities and value for money. The room was spacious, modern and stylish.

"Fantastic stay at Hotel The M’s Kyoto! The location is unbeatable — just a short walk from Karasuma Station. I loved the sleek, modern design and the incredibly easy self-check-in process.

So clean and comfortable. Couldn't find a better location for the price. If you like shopping and restaurants this is the place. I really enjoyed my stay and did lots of walking.

Shogetsu is an excellent kaiseki restaurant. The host, Ayano san, helps foreigners new to kaiseki feel very welcomed with her warm and approachable hospitality.

A lovely family run establishment. The service is lovely, the ladies are so nice and knowledgeable. The food is great, it is a unique Japanese meal. Loved it!

The exact ryokan experience we were hoping to get in Kyoto. Beautiful, traditional building and rooms, absolutely incredible Japanese breakfast each morning, and comfortable futons.

I stayed in the single room at Inn Kawashima for 7 nights. It’s a quiet place to rest and recharge after going out for the day.

I was a bit worried seeing some negative reviews but I can confidently say that those must be from troll accounts as this was probably our favorite stay we have ever been to. Extremely kind and

This was definitely a very traditional experience my boyfriend and I loved every moment the staff were always so kind an welcoming.

A lovely family run ryokan. Very friendly and accommodating owners, they speak good English and are very attentive.

This is the place to stay. The staff are amazing! The location is perfect. A quick walk to anything you need on your trip. Rooms are cozy and clean.

This is a hotel that truly makes you feel comfortable and eager to return.
The service quality is outstanding.

I had a very pleasant stay so I’m giving it 5 stars. Very close to the train station and 3 convenience stores. At scheduled times, they would provide free udon and alcoholic beverages.

So happy with the stay, two large double beds for a fantastic price. Quite sizeable as bathroom and bedroom have a joining little hall.

I stayed here, mid November for 6 nights. It was wonderful. Due to jetlag I had to check in a day late. I notified the hotel staff via email and they were very understanding and responsive.

We had an amazing 3 days staying at Hotori. Yuri and Sanyuri were extremely helpful with their support and communication.

We loved Villa Hotori! It was a highlight of our trip to Japan! The house is so beautiful and relaxing, and staying at Hotori was an incredible experience.

The Shinmonzen is best located in the middle of old Gion by a stream of water. The room are spacious and beautiful. It is so lovely to be surrounded with so much beauty in every corner.

A truly memorable stay at The Shinmonzen.

Great clean rooms, spacious, kitchenette and washing machines (in our room option). Perfect for long term stays and with an infant. We liked the location — not super touristy.

Stayed here in January with my husband and 1 year old. The apartment was great for someone with a small child as it was mostly baby proof.

Absolutely fabulous Ryokan in excellent location with amazing staff. Everyone was always smiling and so warm & gracious. We were personally greeted with gifts upon arrival.

If you’re looking for a traditional stay in Kyoto, in the heart of Gion — this is the place!

Best experience ever, the mutu family were super friendly and welcoming, they are very nice people really, the house is so adorable and sleeping on floor was best sleep I had.

The rooms are clean and this hotel has some super fun amenities.

Very friendly and helpful staff. We arrived earlier than check in, and the hotel allowed us to store our luggage. Having laundry was great.

I enjoyed a fantastic 6 nights stay at this hotel in kyoto!

We are very happy to stay here. Would recommend friends here.
Staff are friendly and helpful especially the Ms at front desk from Korea.
Room spacious and clean.
Space well plan.

The self check in is great if that's your speed, but can present issues when trying to receive mail.

Great location right in the heart of Gion, but still nice and quiet in the room.
We had a free-to-use washer-dryer & detergent in the room.
