Hotel has a nice entrance and reception is reached via a lift to the 2nd floor. Check in staff are friendly and helpful.
We booked a triple room, grandma, mother and teenager.

Much cleaner than other 3 star hotel. My skin is not allergic to the bed sheets at all!
The room is slightly bigger and well designed than other hotel in Kyoto.
A bit of walk from subway station.

I was very happy with my stay here. Kyoto was towards the end of my trip and throughout the past two weeks I’ve gotten very used to tiny hotel rooms, with tiny bathroom and showers.

Location is perfect for shopping and transport. It’s in the middle of the busy shopping area with access to metro and all bus lines. Rooms are big by Japanese standards.

Great hotel! Simple and clean. Fancy shower facilities. Face wash, lotions downstairs free to grab. Close to main area in Kyoto. Will definitely come again!

​We enjoyed our stay. The rooms were clean and surprisingly spacious for Japan, and the bathroom facilities were a major highlight. They provide complimentary coffee, tea and water in the lobby.

Great clean rooms, spacious, kitchenette and washing machines (in our room option). Perfect for long term stays and with an infant. We liked the location — not super touristy.

Stayed here in January with my husband and 1 year old. The apartment was great for someone with a small child as it was mostly baby proof.

This apartment is in a great location about midway between Kyoto Station to the south and downtown Kyoto and Gion district to the north.

Wonderful stay at this place. The place was very clean and had all amenities. Wonderful hosts as well. They were really accommodating to all our requests.

Very cute little coffee shop and homestay. They have a lot of home made bagels that are served with cream cheese or some other toppings. The bagels are nicely chewy.

Absolutely amazing food and very kind people, would recommend visiting if in Kyoto and the ham cheese bagel plus scrambled eggs is fantastic.

You can walk to Kiyomizu Dera temple.

From window room (I was staying at 4th floor), you can see Kyoto scenery including the mountain.

The hotel is in s great location. It is easy get around by foot or subway.
The front desk is very helpful.
Breakfast in includes and is filling and delicious, it rotates.

Our room is very spacious suits us perfectly as a family of 5. Clean, centrally located, close to transport, walking distance to lots of good food options.

Pleasant stay at very convenient location. It is clean and easy to check in/check out via app. We are glad to choose this hotel for our 3-night visit to kyoto:)

The hotel, location, and amenities were great. Staff at the front desk spoke great English and the luggage forwarding was a fantastic touch. The room was spacious and comfortable.

Excellent hotel centrally located in Gion, highly walkable to top sights, restaurants, small local shops and massive shopping malls. The staff is great, friendly and efficient.

There are six rooms per floor. Two face the back, one the side, three the front. We were thrilled our room faced the back, because the street in front is so busy you can hardly run across.

A little apartment with everything you need for your time in Kyoto. Includes washing machine, microwave, cooker, hairdryer and fridge freezer. Location great for the old parts of Kyoto.

But it was a lot more than we expected! Staff was nice and helpful.
They offered us complementary eco-friendly water bottles to refill at the drink station at any time.

We had a wonderful stay at Terrace Kiyomizu during our trip to Kyoto. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights.

Staying here was one of the best parts of our trip so far.

Do yourself a favour and stay here! The rooms are so beautiful and comfortable, I could have stayed there all day. I loved the shower and bathtub.

Nice hotel. Own spacy shower room. Has everything you need. Some towels seems dirty, but you can easily get new ones. Nice room size.

A gem of a hotel in Kyoto. The area is absolutely beautiful, with a shallow tiny river where we were greeted by a grey heron each day. The walk to subway and bus is short.

We loved staying here. My favourite part about this hotel was its location. Away from the hustle and bustle of Gion, but walking distance or a quick bus ride to the main streets.

Phenomenal stay!

We stayed at Gion Kyoka in Kyoto in late January 2026 and had a wonderful experience.

Gion Kyoka felt like a home away from home. The room was spacious, the staff were friendly and the location was ideal, within walking distance to everything.

Pros:
-Staff are beyond nice and very helpful!
-Zashiki Twin Room was actually massive by any hotel standards, not just Japan hotel standards.
-Room was super cute, futons were comfy.

I couldn’t have picked a better place to stay in Kyoto!

I wanna say thank you to staffs in 東山莊. They’re very kind, hospitable, and thoughtful. The location is also good, very close to 二年板、清水寺，so you can take pictures here earlier than others!

Great location to walk to everything with a very helpful and friendly staff.

Location was very good as it was in a quiet side street although close to quite a busy tourist track to a nearby temple. The person who checked us in was very helpful.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a 2 bed room. Hotel is new and a short walk from the metro station. Also walking distance to the active part of Kyoto including Gion, Kawarmarchi, and Pontocho Alley.

Absolutely one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. I look forward to my return here.

Staff were exceptional. The hotel seemed brand new and was very, very nice. The lobby tea / lounge space was amazing with a great selection of teas along with a toaster oven & a microwave.

Great hotel stayed in October of 2025 was a gorgeous room with a large bath, fancy bath to be honest, was a great single night stay.

Very nice hotel, good value for money and great staff. Location is top notch! Right by the river, 20 walking minutes to the train station and 15-20 minutes to Old Town.
