This is a wonderful place to stay for those wanting a more traditional Japanese experience with high quality rooms, amenities, and hospitality. We stayed in a room with our own bathroom and a view of the temple. It was excellent! There are several rooms within the larger space: wet room with bathtub and shower, a sitting room with small table and two floor chairs and tv, a room with beds for sleeping (note: not Western mattresses), and a room for the toilet. Everyone working was so friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. The staff here is one of the best parts! We ate a traditional Japanese breakfast each morning with homemade tofu, fish, rice, and more. The attention-to-detail and Kyoto speciality dishes made each breakfast a high-quality experience. Plus you are close walk to Kyoto station, restaurants, convenience stores, and shopping in addition to being right across the street from the Higashi temple. Location plus staff hospitality make this a 110 year-old establishment a true treasure and worth the stay!
