Matera Hotels

This was definitely an experience I will remember for a long time. This hotel is incredible! We were staying in the "room" — cave with 3 beds (one king and 2 singles).

We visited Matera and stayed at the Pianelle Resort Hotel for two nights for our daughter's 30th birthday.

Staying at this beautiful luxury cave hotel in Matera was a dream come true. Cave 17 was romantic, authentic yet with modern amenities. We had a comfortable stay.

This is one of the most memorable places I have ever stayed. They have maintained the feeling of the caves, and it is incredibly charming. We had room 26, which was very large.

THE BEST HOTEL EXPERIENCE WE’VE HAD IN EUROPE! The absolute best customer service.

Absolutely incredible stay at Corte San Pietro! From the moment we arrived we fell in love, from the wonderful friendly, helpful service and staff. The cave room was unbelievable!

It was our first time in Matera, I would advise more than one night to find your feet. Hotel Sant’Angelo was in the perfect location within walking distance to local sites, restaurants, shops & bars.

Dear Sant’ Angelo team,
Review for 5 night stay July 2026
First of all — great you could pre-arrange our transfer from Bari Airport, ~5:45pm direct to hotel — so late in the afternoon.

The quality and the standard within the room is very high. From matress, towels, shower gel, luxury high quality brands. The room was very clean. You can walk into the old town by 15 min.

Wow. We thank the staff for the truly great experience we had during our one night stay in Matera.

Holiday home in a truly excellent location, close to the center of Matera, 10/15 minutes from the main square and therefore from the Sassi Barisano!

Very clean room and bathroom, the owner is very kind. Convenient and central location. Don't underestimate the possibility of parking near the structure.

The property is located in an excellent location, quiet and close to the centre.

Modern room, excellent location.
Quiet and well organised.
I recommend a larger mirror, and greater cleaning of the bathroom drawers. Found free parking in front of the room. Large shower.

We stayed here for two nights.
The accommodation is in a remote part of the town. Very quiet, and parking can be be done right next the entrance.

Gorgeous room, strategic location, friendliness, cleanliness, super equipped… I was really satisfied 🥰

The rooms are big and very clean and very good bed.
Good Wifi.
Also the friendly concierge helped us very good with some proposals for dinner.
Location is + — 15 from the sassi and main square.

We had a delightful time with our friends staying at the Spazi Gargin Residence.
The location, cleanliness, the welcoming staff and amenities nearby were all excellent.
We wanted to extend our day.

An unforgettable and one-of-a-kind experience that we feel lucky to have found.

Wow! What an experience! How fun and different and…you just have to come to experience it. It was so fun. The “pool”, which was in the basement basically, is my nothing short of dreamy.

The best 4-star hotel within my 13 days trip in Italy. Perfect location, very clean room and especially nice inteligent TV which can used to visit website. The reception had perfect English!

Great hotel and perfect Location. The staff very nice and helpful. Amazing breakfast. Beautiful room and very clean.
The parking lot is (500m away).
I loved the hotel.

Our stay at the San Giorgio Hotel was a unique cave experience in this very special town.

The experience was very nice. We just had a small problem with the hot water, which was immediately fixed on a Sunday.

This hotel and the city are honestly unreal. Every single person on the staff we dealt with was outstanding, making the whole stay feel seamless.

A true gem in the Sassi, Il Palazzotto is the kind of place that quietly stays with you long after you leave.

We stayed in this B&B at the end of June, the owner is a very kind and helpful person, he also recommended the places to visit and booked the guided tour of Matera according to our needs.

We were guests of the structure 2 days… comfortable environment, a stone's throw from the center, you forget about the car, you can easily get to the center on foot … and then Mr. Luigi is very kind

This stay was our best stay in Europe from start to finish. Loved how they pick you up from a parking lot and drive you to and from the hotel.

Stayed at Basiliani Hotel in Matera and loved the experience! The room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully designed, blending the historic charm of the Sassi with modern comfort.

Vetera Matera is far more than a beautiful hotel — it is an exceptional destination and a truly unforgettable experience in the heart of one of Italy’s most extraordinary places.

I learned about Matera – on a CBS morning show about 1.5 years ago.

Our experience at this hotel absolutely made our trip. The staff is so kind and helpful, the grounds are gorgeous, the amenities were luxurious and the views unbeatable.

Comfort, staff professionalism and location next to the duomo in this gorgeous city all excellent.

We had a very pleasant stay, the hotel fulfilled our expectations. We reserved a room for persons with disabilities. It was well appointed, spacious and suitable to our needs.

This hotel is really quite spectacular. Amazing staff; beautiful room; every comfort.

Exceptional!
If you are in this area, I would highly recommend booking this unique experience. Staying in a cave that is very comfortable, and well equipped.

Absolutely fantastic experience staying here. The only reason it's not a five is that, unfortunately, the restaurant was closed.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying here.

The location was superb. Patricia was very courteous and asked us how everything was throughout our stay. The tiny apartment had so much charm and character it more than made up for it's size.

Matera is stunning and so is La Casa di Giò, especially the view from La Casa di Giò. Located in one of the restored houses in the sassi, the small house was modern, clean and comfortable.

Industrial breakfast. And there was no TV in the bedroom.
Great location. Very central.

Spectacular mezzanine studio apartment, spacious and finely furnished, a stone's throw from Sasso Caveoso, convenient to all the main places of interest in Matera.

Very clean house, with attention to detail and with everything you need (even more), welcome kit for each guest.

The host is very hospitable and offered me some great help, the room is very clean and feel like at home. It's 10 mins away from Matera landmarks on foot. Really recommend it!

Loved the rooms. Loved the service. The host Martino helped us to navigate our way through Matera. He took the time to explain where to go and what to do which was greatly appreciated.

Martino was a fantastic host and superb tour guide. The accommodation is beautiful and different.

Sleeping in one of their rooms is truly an amazing experience. Their interior garden is intimate and offers some shade, they offer fluffy towels & slippers + anything you could need for the bathroom.

This was my second visit to Le Dodici Luna and we thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality of the staff and the lovely, spacious room. I highly recommend this hotel if you visit Matera.

Great place, great food, great staff. It can't get any better. Internet works well, all inclusive breakfast was worth waking up early. Don't miss it, best hotel in the city.

Staying at Palazzo degli Abati was an unforgettable experience — a truly stunning boutique hotel perched above the Sassi in Matera with breathtaking panoramic views of this ancient city.

Tucked into the heart of Sassi Caveoso in Matera's ancient old city, this hidden gem has a fantastic location with breathtaking views over the historic rooftops.

Casa Diva was an amazing find! The property is stunning, with so much attention to detail in both the design and atmosphere. What truly stood out, though, was the warm and personalized service.

We had a wonderful stay at Lamia Room Rentals. The location is situated just a short walk from the historic center, making it the perfect base for exploring Matera on foot.

This was absolutely perfect for us overnight. The interior is so cleverly designed and it’s only a short walk to the amazing centre.
