Location. Clean. Good staff. Easy access to transport / sights — many in walking distance. Basic buffet breakfast. All this for great value for money!

Small rooms but very clean, nice TV and great location. Staff was friendly but check-in and check-out is via kiosk and you can do it totally on your own.

Beautiful environment, but some aspects didn’t meet expectations

My partner and I stayed at Miyama Sanso for two nights in late March.

The scenery of the rice fields, clear streams and the thatched roof main house is reminiscent of the original Japanese landscape.

My recent stay at the Grand Mercure Beppu Bay Resort & Spa was absolutely outstanding, primarily due to the exceptional staff who consistently went the extra mile to ensure a memorable experience.

We had a wonderful experience during our recent stay at the Grand Mercure Hotel this spring.

Hotel is just opposite to the station and supermarket. Night gowns and other amenities are to be borrowed at the reception by the elevator. Though there is no stairway, no long wait for the elevator.

Lovely hotel with a lot of great amenities. The atmosphere is a little bland, and the rooms look a little dated, but the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Visited back in 2015.

There are 2 properties, and of course, Murphys Law, we went to the wrong one first and were scared because they did not have a reservation for us. Lol.

Mixed Experience – Great Breakfast, Poor Front Desk Service.
First impressions matter, and unfortunately the front desk left a very poor one.

Great location. Conveniently located in the vicinity of Hakata Bus, Train, and Subway station, and it's on the quiter side.

We had an amazing experience with this hotel. Not only was everything clean, and orderly, but the service they offered was overwhelmingly pleasant.

The hotel is exceptionally well located, right next to the Chinatown area, making it very convenient for dining and sightseeing. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained.

A nice quaint private onsen away from the city. Rooms are large with futons and a small dining area for two.
The private onsen is surrounded by nature which makes it a peaceful atmosphere.

This mountain hotel is a perfect escape from the noise and rush of the city. Surrounded by nature, it offers a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and unwind.

Tucked away from the busy streets of Beppu’s city center, Hotel Beppu Pastoral offers a peaceful and immersive Japanese experience that was both relaxing and memorable.

Very friendly staff, quaint and quiet hotel. Large space and japanese style room was a good size. Hotel is a bit old, but felt clean. The bath houses are traditional japanese separated by gender/sex.

The hotel is very well located in the heart of Beppu.

I stayed here for two nights. The location is excellent, situated next to the Tokiwa Department Store, Yume Town, and the Oita Bus Station—very convenient.

The hotel is aged but very clean with great service by the staff.

This night was included as part of our trip by the agent. Having been to Japan before we were not keen on the "fake Ryokan" experience but were persuaded.

Close to the station and friendly service. I liked the self service check in/out — very convenient.

The hotel is close to Saga Station. The room is clean and offers free breakfast. Although it's free, the food is delicious. Coffee and tea are provided at any time.

It was my first time in Yufuin, and I ate delicious food and had a relaxing time in the open-air bath in each room, which was available 24 hours a day.

It's right after getting off the Yufuin interchange. The welcoming and customer service with a smile is wonderful.
The bath is warm and there is a bath in the room, but I love the large public bath.

Had a great stay! Food was amazing, with friendly service and lovely dining room. The rooms were very large and comfortable. Touring bus station 5 minute walk away and took it to great hiking sites.

Three parts to hotel & can be daunting until one finds their way around. Elevators to avoid stairs leads to unexpected places but staff are very understanding.

A memorable and relaxing stay with attentive staff and beautiful surroundings. Our family had a truly wonderful time at Mercure Saga Karatsu Resort.

This place is a gem and so is the host, Satomi! Very simple living to be sure, with an outdoor kitchen and limited bathing time, but nice beds with curtains and extremely convenient to the airport.

My favourite place I've stayed at in Japan — a real rustic gem with the friendliest and most welcoming host and a real homey feel.

For our return visit to the area, we decided to try out Ryotei Hanzuiryo, the most famous and luxurious of the Unzen ryokans, and among the most renowned properties in the entire country.

A seaside hotel with a peaceful atmosphere, featuring a beautiful ocean-view onsen. The food is delicious, and while the rooms may look a bit outdated, they are clean.

The 5 stars are not for a n upscale new facility but because it’s a great value for the price.

Was taken care of by the hotel at early Nov 2024 for a night before flying back home.
The hotel was clean and had all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay.

Modern small hotel in Hakata within walking distance to railway stations, Canal City and main shopping area.
We booked a family room which had a mezzanine level with futons for the children to sleep.

A modern and minimalist style hotel. Walking distance from Tenjin, also with the size of the room, it is better for light packing travellers.
