Loved this hotel. From the location to the amenities, everything was perfect! Pricey but I would pay that again. My hotels in Osaka and Tokyo pale in comparison.

Wonderful hotel with great amenities. Located just next to the JR Kumamoto station, it is very accessible with direct connection to the Amu Plaza.

This hotel is located right in the center of Kumamoto’s downtown area, making it very convenient.

Hotel Nikko is centrally located in Kumamoto making it an excellent choice for any visit. We stayed for 4 nights and truly enjoyed the place. Rooms are spacious and clean with all amenities available.

Me and a friend stayed here for 6 nights in October, and it was absolutely delightful.

Amazing service, I’d give 10 stars if I could. So friendly and helpful. The facilities feel so luxurious, From check in with tea and a relaxed area to check out the staff could not do anymore for you.

This hotel is located out of nowhere but I am surprised that there were quite a few overseas tourists like us.

We had an amazing stay. The rooms are really large and very modern and stylish.

Traditional ryokan if you want to experience authentic Japanese lifestyle and cuisine. Have to lay futons yourself.

The building was very beautiful, the meals were delicious, the private onsens were nice and we loved our room. We would have really liked to stay more than 1 day.

Fumoto is one of six fully tattoo-friendly onsen in Kurokawa Onsen (i. E. Tattoos are allowed with no cover-up required).

I stayed one night at Fumoto Ryokan (Kurokawa Onsen) and was genuinely very satisfied.
The ryokan is traditional and understated—wood, stone, soft lighting—nothing flashy, but immediately calming.

The staff were attentive and spoke basic English. Fujimoto-san in particular was very polite and friendly. He helped us from picking us to the bus stop to the end of our trip.

Room 5/5 — spacious, clean, and neat.
Onsen 5/5 — Amazing! Must-visit both cave baths. There is no water dispenser near the onsen, must bring your own water bottle.

Close to perfect, great location. Clean, tidy, amenities complete, great service, free lockers up front, daily welcome home drinks — with exceptional selection.

We enjoyed our three-night stay very much at REF Kumamoto by Vessel Hotels in the last week of October 2025.

The best hotel we stayed at during our whole Japan trip in Kyushu. The room is very spacious, we had a great view of the castle and the reception were very welcoming.

Kind staff, clean and comfortable accommodation for a great price. I had a great view of Kumamoto castle from my room. The rooftop terrace was lovely to watch the sun set behind the castle grounds.

We had a spacious room facing the castle. Everything from the floor area to the view is very nice.

The hotel is definitely a super luxurious one and you can tell from the get go as you enter. The staff are all well trained and are willing to help whenever you need.

One of the best ryokan experiences we’ve had across a myriad of ryokans we stayed at in Kyushu (including some way pricier big chains).

Nice place to stay around Mt Aso. We wanted to get to the hikes first thing in the morning and the location of this inn is well positioned for that.
It was very peaceful here.

You can’t beat Dormy Inn when it comes to location — next to the bus terminus and Sakura Machi mall. Rooms are Japan sized but clean and fresh. Buffet breakfast was tasty and had a good variety.

Excellent breakfast well worth the extra fee. Rooms were typical Japanese size, ie, small but clean and well-serviced.

Day trip. Location is out of the way, but that just means its quiet.
They have 2 baths for females. 1 standing and 1 sitting (w/ a small cave).

Room was clean and spacious with two in-room onsen.
Staff were very kind and helpful, especially the female staff serving us. We try to talk a lot in Japanese. She was amazing.
Food was incredible.

We had a really enjoyable stay at Angelica Lodge. The whole premise was immaculately clean.

A great escape from the hustle and bustle. The place offers a comfortable space with great views, which makes it extra special.

A very good hotel with hot springs. Friendly staff and delicious dinner. I guess the hotel owner is a fan of Gundam. There are a lot of Gundam and manga on display in the second building.

We had a few days exploring the region from here and found it had everything we needed.

Traditional ryokan – we had a room with a toilet, and the onsen was shared. The room was comfortable and clean, but for us the highlights were two things.

The cottages are large and offer a different experience to hotel rooms. Ours also had a kitchen.
They charge if you ask for extra pillows.

There are no words to accurately express how wonderful this ryokan is. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms comfortably appointed, the private onsens perfection, and the food and service spectacular.

One of the best experiences in Japan! The staff were so nice and made us enjoy everything. The food was extremely good, and the restaurant environment was great.

Traditional ryokan set in a little town and stretch of street with several other ryokans where guest can access them with a day pass. Our room came with dinner and breakfast.

Our best experience we had in Japan! The private onsen on the roof top was a nice touch! The 6 course meal was a 10/10! I can’t wait to see what we’re going to have breakfast tomorrow!

Great ryokan. They were able to accommodate my request for a gluten free meal, which is rare in japan. The staff speaks some english and is very service oriented!

The staff are nice and friendly, some can communicate in English. The room is slightly smaller than most other onzen ryokans that we've stayed in. The onzen have a metallic/rusty smell.

Fantastic rustic guesthouse in forested setting, helpful host with great pre-arrival communication in English, very comfortable rooms (bedroom and sitting) which were warm and cosy when we arrived on

The location is about a 10-minute drive from Kurokawa Hot Spring Street. The road before arriving at the accommodation is a bit narrow, so it is recommended to arrive before dark.

Very nice rooms, very beautifully designed, you could see they put a lot of care into it. I hit my head a few times going up to the bunk bed. They have an outdoor terrace with a nice view.

1) 😊 The room is spacious and bright with a big window reaching upto ceiling. Although it is bunker bed, nothing makes you feel opressed.

Gorgeous hotel. The whole experience is very premium and we felt like VIPs. They take you to your room in golf carts, but it didn't seem that necessary.
The room is very big and spacious and new.

Spacious ASO suite with sofa set, large TV, bgm music, coffee pod machine and bath tub with jacuzzi. We slept very well, what more could we ask for.

Unlike some other reviews nothing else than praise for the staff and hotel.
Our room was very clean and we had plenty of facilities. The bubble bath is great after having done long hikes.

Our family of 3 had a lovely stay at this Airbnb. Our tatami room was well heated and we had the most comfortable bedding sets.
