Great views of the river, nice calm location.
Japanese style for a more authentic experience… but that means everything is on the floor. No furniture!

Such as shame. This could be wonderful………Unfortunately it was very run down and in need of a complete refurbishment. The wall had stains on the wood work was shabby and the bathroom was very dated. There was no shower only hand held spray and the hairdryer was useless. It felt grubby in all areas but didn’t smell and was clean! The Onsen was closed and we were tied to a specific breakfast time which we asked to make later but was told no.
We complained to our booking company who arranged for a change of room which was on the top floor with far greater space but still in a shabby state. I would have rather stayed elsewhere as this affected my whole Kyoto experience. I couldn’t wait to leave and head to Osaka.

Somehow charming but disappointing. The ryokan has a certain old-fashioned beauty, but it’s extremely basic. No onsen (nor recommendations for one nearby), and both breakfast and dinner cost extra — on top of an already absurdly high price. Honestly, you can find much better value elsewhere.

The room was incredible. I lived here recently with my family (total 4) and we had booked the Quad Room. They gave us the top floor (6th floor) entire room. It had 2 bedrooms with 2 beds each, 1 sitting/living room, 2 toilets, 1 bathroom, and an amazing balcony with the view of the river. The tatami mats and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The staff was very responsive and very helpful. They helped call the previous hotel where we lost something to check. They helped ship our luggage to the next hotel and coordinated with the next hotel so that our bags were already in our rooms when we reached there. The location was next to the river and short walk from Gion, Kawaramachi station, Nishiki Market, etc. The walk outside the hotel was just magical. I highly recommend this place if you want to get an experience of a traditional Ryokan, be in a quite neighborhood and still within 5 mins of walk to all the happening places.

My daughter suggest me to book this hotel on a bit of a whim because it looked quaint and was reasonably priced, but it ended up as one of the loveliest bits of our stay in kyoto, she was right to think it would be quaint, but in the best possible way. Our room had super comfortable tatami mats to sleep on and a flask of green tea that was topped up daily and my younger daughter fulfilled her dream to sleep like shincan/doremon style. It's on river side, walkable to the station in the right shoes, and the team were unbelievably lovely and helpful, even with the language barrier. They sorted our luggage transfer for us even when our next hotel wasn't able to receive it, and made for us at a set time we chose each morning so everything was at its best. We were so happy to stay there.

Spent 3 nights there.
— Convenient location near sight-seeing places, transportation, and convenience stores.
— Loved having the bath to soak in to, especially with my injured knees from all the walking.
— The tatami mat flooring was very comfortable to sleep on, with futon and quilts, and offered a unique experience.
— Loved the tea provided.
— The cleaning service was the best; replaced all the towels, cleaned the trash out, and tidied up our beds/blankets.
— I would definitely come back to this hotel should I visit Kyoto again.

It's right next to a million lovely bars and restaurants, walkable to the station in the right shoes, and the team were unbelievably lovely and helpful, even with the language barrier. They sorted our luggage transfer for us even when our next hotel wasn't able to receive it, and the breakfasts were to die for — the full Japanese breakfast experience, made for us at a set time we chose each morning so everything was at its best. We were so sad to leave!

Disappointing stay at this accommodation. Extremely dated hotel rooms with no views and substandard food for both dinner and breakfast. No Onsen (hot baths) available on property as are shown in their website. Certainly a very poor Ryokan experience that could not recommend to anyone. Would rate as a one star if it wasn’t for the fact that it is actually a fairly decent location. Simply stay elsewhere.

We stayed at Ryokan Tazuru for 4 nights in 1983.
At that time, no staff people spoke English. However, they would go out onto the street with us and ask a passing student who spoke English to help us! It made our trip twice as enjoyable!

This is a traditional ryokan. You will get all you need, but please be aware that the building is old, so don't expect a fancy room. English is limited but they are still very helpful. We chose it due to its proximity to the Nishiki market, which makes it super convenient for us!

Beautiful traditional Ryokan style inn. The kaiseki breakfast was pretty good as well, you can have coffee overlooking the river.
I wish I stayed longer, sleeping on the futon over a tatami mat was soooo comfy. They also provide yukatas and zori sandals. I had a great time, would recommend if you're staying in Kyoto.
