UNKNOWN KYOTO

My 4-n stay (¥11, 800) at UNKNOWN's dormitory was fantastic. The ambience of the repurposed old house was really nice. The futon was comfortable and the privacy curtains made it easy to sleep well. Toilets and showers were always clean and the staff were amazing.
I also got some work done in the coworking space which had fast Wi-Fi and a good environment. The phone booth was useful for taking calls too.

A great hostel, beautiful building and the beds were really spacious! Good kitchen facilities and a nice common room to eat and chill in. Very good location too, for someone trying to travel on a budget this was ideal :)

The stay was great! The staff is friendly and the luggage storage is very flexible and uncomplicated. The room was a adequate size.
Having a co-working space is great to plan the route or make some food ready without any issues.
Next door is a restaurant, which is tasty although a little pricey.
Tall people need to watch out for beams above the sink, it's really easy to hit you head!

Chic co-working space 
The closest station is KIYOMIZU Gojo —  Keihan line (Exit 1) but I walked from Kyoto JR station. It is walking distance from Kyoto station.
There are a couple of convenience stores near the hotel (7-11 and Lawson) but you have to cross the main road, it isn’t convenient.  
I would suggest you buy something before you come back to the hotel. Otherwise there is a 24h supermarket  (Fresco) nearby. You can buy bakeries and drinks.
Also there is a chain restaurant across the road (Nakau)
Unknown Kyoto operates cafe as well. You can savor pasta, pizza 
Room is very simple as it was renovated from a brothel.  
I chose a room with a desk.
Other than that,  
AC is equipped.
Windows on both sides.  
A small mirror.
Some hangers.
Although I paid slightly more as I wanted a desk in my room, it is right next to toilets.
You can ask the Hotel which room would be the most quiet if you really wanna stay here.
In the public space,  
There are washing machines.  
Kitchen is fully equipped but fridge was full and I couldn’t keep my food there 
Water dispenser is available. I always refilled the water here.  
Shower is small. It is only a shower, no bathtub.
Shampoo, conditioner and body shampoo are available.
If the bath mat is too wet, you can always change it to a new one.  
Hair dryer is available.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere.
The renovation is a great success.
The co-working space is excellent.  
It is an old house after all, though. You should be ready for noise.

I've been to many hostels and this is in my top list. You could see the love and care in refurbishing the old building to be as it is now. From the reviews I read, the sound insulation might not be the best, but I guess my neighbours were respectful, and there were no excessive traffic sounds. Most of all, I've never been to a hostel with such a nice water pressure and temperature in the shower. My only complaint is that the dryer didn't really dry my clothes even after an additional 30 minutes, but it was good enough and I just put my clothes on my bed for the day to dry.

Was a very pleasant stay at Unknown Kyoto, the facilities are excellent — great location to explore Kyoto, whilst maintaining the peace and tranquility needed at the end of a long day exploring!

I enjoyed my visit and wanted a more relaxed and ambient environment. I got that, however, the room compared to other hostels in the same price class is in my opinion not ad good.
I know that the house is old and I don't often make any remarks on small things. But I although think it's worth to mentioned that the lower bed closest to the windows was significantly colder. I had no problem with it since I put on a sweater, but my opinion is that the standard shouldn't differ much from bed to bed when you are placed in one room.
Also would appreciate more personal space for the luggage in the room. No big deal.
Overall I'm satisfied and is particarly suitable for those who want to study or work in a co-working surrounding.

Loved our stay here. Space was clean and comfy, staff was very kind and helpful, and the workspace was a nice area to hang out in. Great location as well. Walls are thin but staff were diligent about informing on quiet hours (plus free earplugs) and we had no issue!

Great value capsule hostel in Kyoto. You will definitely need earplugs though as the walls are very thin. I can even hear my neighbour's heavy breath.
The 2 female staff were extremely friendly and helpful! And they speak good English too :)

Hands down the best hostel I've stayed at! Clean, comfortable and quiet, with a great shared workspace on the main floor. The shared bathrooms and showers were incredibly clean. The front desk staff were helpful and kind, making us feel right at home. Great location as well, a quick walk to nice coffee shops and the river trail.
