TSUKIMI HOTEL

Absolutely loved this hostel. First of all it was very very clean. Second of all I immediately felt welcome here by the staff and made friends with them! I hung out in the hostel quite a bit and we even had a family meal one of the nights. I recommend staying here AND getting to know the staff. They are very willing to help, give recommendations, and just hangout with you. One of my favorite hostels i’ve ever stayed in! thank you Tsukimi!

I stayed here for 5 days and was very happy with my experience. The most important thing for me was the staff. Everyone was very kind, friendly and helpful. I would like to thank each one of them. Kanami, I miss you and all the others. 🩵
The location was great and everything in the hotel was very clean. The bed area was spacious and comfortable. There was a locker in the room where you could keep your belongings safely. There was also enough space in the room for your suitcase.
The bathroom and common areas were spacious, clean and well maintained. Clean towels were placed next to your bed every day.
The lounge area on the ground floor was very comfortable. I also recommend going up to the rooftop. You can enjoy beautiful views of the area both during the day and at night.
If visit Kyoto again, l will definitely stay here again.

It was my first time staying in a hostel, and I feel so lucky that I found this one in Kyoto. The location is perfect — super convenient to get anywhere, with lots of great food and shops nearby. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always happy to answer any questions.
The check-in process was simple and smooth, and the place looked exactly like the photos. Everything was very clean and felt new. Definitely great value for money and perfect for solo travelers.
Really appreciate everything here — it made my Kyoto trip even better ❤️

Easily the best hotel/hostel experience I had in Japan — by a wide margin.
From the moment I checked in, the Tsukimi team made me feel completely at home. The whole crew carry a warmth that you can feel the second you walk through the door. They don't just run a hostel — they create an atmosphere.
The common room is where the real magic happens. It's not just a place to sit; it's where conversations start and friendships form. Over my stay I met so many wonderful people from all over the world, and within minutes it felt like I'd known them for years. That kind of community doesn't happen by accident — it's built every day by people who genuinely care about their guests.
The location in Gion is perfect, everything is beautifully kept, and the little details make it feel like a real home rather than just a place to sleep.

The location was absolutely amazing. You’re right next to Hanamikoji Street, Ninenzaka, and Sannenzaka, and only about 4 km from Fushimi Inari Taisha. There are also so many other beautiful places nearby to explore! A 7-Eleven and Lawson are within walking distance, and there are countless cozy coffee shops around the area.
The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and kind throughout my entire stay.
The beds were very comfortable, and you receive a fresh towel every day. The bathrooms and toilets were cleaned daily and always spotless.
Staying in this hostel honestly felt like staying in a hotel. It was amazing 💓

If you’re visiting Kyoto for the first time and want a place that ticks all the boxes, prime location, great value, and foreigner-friendly, look no further. Every member of staff speaks excellent English and goes out of their way to be helpful, with impressive knowledge of the local area. I stayed for four days and had an absolute blast. The capsule experience here is unlike anything I’ve encountered at a standard hotel. The pods are surprisingly spacious, immaculately clean, and genuinely comfortable. Secure lockers and dedicated luggage storage mean you never have to worry about your belongings. For those who aren’t sure where to start with sightseeing, and I was one of them, the hotel recently launched a tour guide service that is worth every penny. The tour covers all the major highlights of Kyoto while also uncovering hidden gems and brilliant local food spots you’d never find on your own. I was lucky enough to be one of the first to try it, and it completely transformed my trip. A huge shoutout to Rio (Staff Member), whose passion for the city and in-depth knowledge made the whole experience truly special. Honestly, the tour alone is reason enough to book this place.

Staff are extremely kind, welcoming, attentive, caring and helpful.
Social space makes for great social atmosphere. I’d always say the space can only facilitate social interactions so much, you also have to be willing to spark conversations!

Stayed 9 nights, and I absolutely loved it. The location was great, in the middle of the old-town, within walking distance of several worthwhile attractions, and the river, which is lovely to walk / jog / cycle along.
The accomodations themselves are nice, it's clean and modern, and the view from the roof is amazing.
Lastly the staff are incredible. Extremely friendly and helpeful, great for suggesting places to eat, visit or activities to do, or to have friendly conversations with.
I stayed here with a friend, and we both adored the place. We cannot reccomend it enough. Definitely staying here again when I return to Kyoto in future!

Tbh, theres nothing to complain about it. The rooms and bathrooms very clean. Staff was super nice. 10/10 hospitality. U can meet a lots of new friends here everyday and have a fabulous trip. Definitely recommend especially solo trips, 1 of the best choice u made.
Some of the places if you dont like crowds. Definitely recommend go at the night time. Night with cherry blossoms is still stunning!

THE BEST HOSTEL IN KYOTO!
I spent my entire 5-night stay at Tsukimi and was so happy to have discovered this hostel. My experience was wonderful from start to finish, and the staff were all incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful.
The facilities are excellent—clean, well-maintained, and very comfortable. The beds are clean and spacious, with personal lockers provided to keep your valuables safe. They also provide fresh face and bath towels every day. The toilet and shower facilities are spotless, and hair dryers are available for guests to use. Laundry services are also available at a very affordable price.
The location is another big plus, as it’s close to several tourist spots and conveniently near bus stations.
Overall, I would definitely stay here again when I return to Kyoto! 🌸

Had a great stay at Tsukimi. Was originally supposed to stay 4 nights, ended up staying a week. I got lucky too because it was slow, so the room was pretty empty which always helps. The facility is very clean and organized, they have enough showers per floor. The beds are very comfortable, and compared to other hostels I’ve stayed at the “capsules” block the noise pretty good. The common area is also very nice and spacey and the rooftop has amazing day and night views of the area and you can see Yasaka pagoda from there.
The location is unbeatable, it’s in the heart of the Gion district. Walking distance to some of the main temples, streets, shops and restaurants in the area. And if you move in the Luup sometimes like me they have a station right on the entrance of the hotel which is very convenient.
The main highlight was the staff. Everyone is very nice and very helpful. They are all very approachable and they acknowledge you when you are around. They have a great vibe between everyone which is contagious. Kohsuke, Yuri, Koya and the rest of the staff were all very welcoming and gave great recommendations.
Anytime I come to Kyoto I’ll definitely be staying here!

I can’t begin to explain how much I love this place. Very socialising hotspot which amazing staff who will cater to every one of your needs. The amenities are excellent and the beds are super comfortable. I couldn’t recommend it more and I hope to return on my next trip to Japan! Kohsuke is an amazing guy and the most accommodating person ever.

Honestly staying at tsukimi hotel was the best choice we've made in our trip last September, the staff was very nice to us, the location was perfect, close to nice spots to visit, bus stops and metro stations. The beds were actually comfortable and the place is very clean, but let's not forget the rooftop where you have a table to sit and a very stunning view to look at, AND THE COFFEE IS FREE!
We really spent a nice time there. And for the price it's the best option you could find in my opinion.

The hotel is aesthetic, welcoming & other guests are friendly. The locations perfect for walking to many spots! They even offered me crab soup when relaxing in the lounge. Thanks to Kohsuke and other hosts for being very kind and accommodating to my needs!

This was my second time staying at the Tsukimi Hotel. My first time in March was great, but this second time was terrible. The only positive aspects were the location and the rooftop terrace. The total price for three nights was almost 30% more expensive than for five nights in March. On top of that, I definitely felt less welcome overall. The staff were superficially nice, but they clearly had their favorites among the guests and forgot about everyone else within five minutes. Some didn't even say hello, greet you back or anything when they saw you.
Nothing was really clean. There was short and long hair everywhere in the capsule and some stains on the bed, which I find really disgusting. In the shower, there were brown slimy stains on the floor and quite a bit of mold on the shower curtain. The sandals which you were forced to wear weren't even white anymore as they were a few months ago.
In the bedroom itself, the heating was turned up to full blast, which made it much too hot, and even the slight ventilation in the capsule couldn't help. The door to the bedroom squeaked terribly every time someone opened it. Unfortunately, the other people in the bedroom had no respect for each other either. Until shortly after 3 a. M. People came and went without consideration, the worst being a group of guys who arrived shortly before 3 and then talked loudly to each other.

Thank you so much for your services. I haven’t met such kind, helpful, and friendly staff in a long time. Everything was perfectly clean — the showers and all the bathroom facilities were in perfect condition. The chill zone was also great, and all the services were very high-quality, some even beyond my expectations.
Once again — thank you. And when I come back to Kyoto in the future, I will definitely stay with you again.

There can be no overstating the intense locker room odor that permeates the sleeping area.
The showers were filthy and slimy with these magnetic bars from which the shampoo, conditioner, and body soap were hanging from. This provided no stability and they were constantly sliding off the bar or bringing the bar crashing on the shower floor throughout the experience.
“Room” safes were not working which is not good when all you have is a dysfunctional curtain to pull down.
No paper towels to dry your hands after using the toilets and much means you are shaking them dry since you’ve already chucked your used towels into the wash bin.
The entire time, I was never sure that any surface was clean or had ever been washed. There was never an attempt by staff to dissuade me otherwise.
