Absolutely incredible! Chieuko is a wonderful host — super friendly, personable and helpful. The breakfasts were fantastic, every bowl, utensil, etc was artistic and unique. She offers bike rentals to travel through Kyoto which we loved. This is a 6 out of 5 and would highly recommend.

A beautiful sanctuary in Kyoto. Was a wonderful place for our stay with the most wonderful hospitality and food. Love our little meditation garden, the attention to detail. E bikes for hire and an incredible traditional breakfast. Can’t wait to return.

Staying at AUKIYA was an unforgettable experience—everything I imagined and more when thinking of Japan. The property itself is a perfect blend of traditional charm and modern comfort. The Zen garden was a peaceful retreat, and the bathroom was immaculate and beautifully designed. It’s in an ideal location, close enough to Gion, and the option to use e-bikes made exploring the area a breeze.
What truly made the stay exceptional, though, was the hostess. She wasn’t just the cherry on top—she was the heart and soul of the experience. Her attention to detail was impeccable, and you could feel the genuine care and love she puts into making guests feel at home. The breakfast was delightful and carefully prepared, and I can’t recommend it enough. It was a true honor to stay in such a warm, welcoming space. I’d return in a heartbeat.

Azukiya is a real gem to stay in. Lovely traditional setting. We had the ground floor room with view of a small inner garden. It felt like a retreat into a different time.
Also, the home made breakfast was amazing! If you stay at azukiya be sure to have it at least once!

We absolutely loved staying at Azukiya! Chieko is so warm and welcoming, she helps you bring your bags to the room and even served a welcome drink and snack. The traditional setting is beautiful and was a highlight during our Japan trip. Located close to the metro, Azukiya is ideally placed. The rooms are well-appointed and we had a comfortable stay. Highly recommend!

We had an incredible stay at Azukiya. Our room was beautiful and our host went out of her way to make us feel at home. The location is great, just a short bike ride or walk from many of the main attractions around Kyoto. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic — a selection of high quality western-style breakfast items with a unique and delicious Japanese twist. We would highly recommend anyone visiting Kyoto to stay at this charming house.

I had an excellent stay at Azukiya. Chieko-san is wonderful hostess, warm and ever so helpful! I think she is the main reason that Azukiya is such a wonderful place to stay in. The breakfasts that she serves are outstanding. My room was spacious with comfortable futons, and a great shower. The property is well located with the metro close by. I actually walked back from Goon after dinner one evening. Highly recommended if you want to experience a traditional Japanese guest house.

This is our second stay at this unforgettable traditional Kyoto inn. We've stayed in the lower and upper level rooms and both are super comfortable, has elegant minimalistic Japanese aesthetic, and is equipped with the modern comforts of a fantastic shower and soaking tub and lovely aromatherapy bath products. It was super cozy even on a cold winter day. We looked forward to Chieko's scrumptious homemade western and Japanese style breakfasts the entire week which were always so beautifully presented. Chieko herself is the cherry on top! She is the perfect hospitable host, gave us fantastic recommendations, and it felt like we were leaving home on our departure. We can't wait to return again!

Highly recommend this bed and breakfast. Host provides guests with an authentic Japanese experience. The inn is quiet, has a washer/dryer, and is in a great location with many experiences within walking distance. Would recommend you purchase the traditional Japanese breakfast, as the host prepares it with fresh local ingredients. Host also welcomed us with matcha tea upon arrival. Would absolutely stay here again next time I am in Kyoto.
