We have been to few ryokans in Japan. Hanayoshi stood out as it has really good service. View was great! We got the room with personal onsen and we enjoyed ourselves very much!
The rooms were very spacious and the outdoor bath had a great view. The food at dinner and breakfast was well proportioned.

I get some communication barriers with the car rental company. It is very hard to explain the situation for those staffs who may not familiar with english.
We stayed four nights at the Monterey Fukuoka after spending some time in Nagasaki. Do note there are two Monterey properties in the city. So be sure to pick the right one.
Stayed there for a total of 5 nights during a 8D7N trip. Staff were friendly and helpful, amid tension between China and Japan at the moment.

Nice resort overall.
+ Beautiful setting and surrounding like everywhere else on Yoron. Breakfast was amazing and the free flow bar during the day is a great extra.
Amazing experience! Fantastic apartment, fantastic location, fantastic see and fantastic staff, the breakfast was very good with many options. We loved Yoron Island and we hope to return someday.

This is really great hotel in Fukuoka. Room is very sweat and large. And there are various good facilities. Also the restaurant is great. Especially all staffs are very very kind.
Super yummy breakfast that light-up our day. Big, trendy & clean rooms, also clean public hot bath.
The drawback is remote location. Surrounded by container terminals & warehouses.
New and modern hotel with spacious rooms. There’s also several onsen options with both indoor and outdoor selections. The breakfast is superb with a good selection of Japanese cuisines.

Excellent hotel, very beautiful and the hot springs are great. Odd the front desk is on the 11th floor. Room was a bit small but I’ve lived in smaller. Plenty of things to see and eat in the area.
Booked a 3 pax room for a relative cheap price during the golden week. The room layout is 2 bed and 1 sofa bed. The sofa bed was relatively long and width is wide enough for me a 165cm and 60kg guy.
This hotel was great! The rooms were huge for japanese standards, we had a couch which was very comfortable in the evening to relax.
This is a very nice resort. It's right on the water just north of Beppu Station.
Beautiful and clean room. On the pricier side but definitely worth it. We stayed at room type J. Fully recharged and rested. The breakfast was excellent and served in individual portions/dishes.
A lovely oceanside onset in Beppu. The view of the room is magnificent, I could witness the moon rising over the pelagic horizon as I dip myself in my personal hot water tub.

Great relaxing and restorative stay in this hotel for 2 nights. We took advantage of the hotel onsen and massages at Tamayura in the salon. Everything was excellent including the hotel breakfast.
We only stayed in the hotel one night unfortunately it’s the best hotel we have stayed in this trip so far.
What a place. Location amazing, a few min from the station where you can get anywhere.
You can also walk to the cultural center two block down towards the sea.
I would like to commend the outstanding service of assistant manager Kazuki-San.
We had a issue with the AC a few hours before checkout that wet our clothes.
Got a chance to stay here for 2 nights in April 2026. The hotel is kind of far from the city center so having a rental car in my opinion is a must (there is parking).
Beppu was one highlight of our trip to Japan. I say “one”, as there were many. And while we did not do too much in Beppu itself, we used it as a base to get to interesting areas around Beppu.
Really big hotel by the ocean side. Room was so big that we can prob sleep 10 people in there if we had the futons. This place even got a water dispenser.
Love everything in here. The room is traditional, clean and has no bad smell. I do enjoy the private onsen in the room with sea view. Staff are incredibly nice!
What a beautiful hotel. It has preserved its charm over the years. The room was quite spacious, with two beds, a futon style bed, a low table with tons of bean bags and low chairs to sit.

We stayed at this ryokan for (unfortunately) just one night and it was a great experience. The host was very welcoming right from the start, the dinner being shabu shabu was enormously huge.
1) Location is a little hard to find if you reach in the night and if you are driving. Made 2 rounds before we managed to figure out the path that leads to the house.
We had an amazing experience at 竹屋! The location couldn't be better – literally steps from Yufuin station, and there's a charming 'secret path' connecting it directly.

Everything was satisfactory except for the location of the accommodation.
Super friendly staff and amazing location. My only complaint was the bed and super hard pillows. It comes down to personal preference but some options would be appreciated. Otherwise an amazing stay.

We booked the ‘Wind’ room. Good size. 2 beds and 2 tatami. Private onsen.
Small kitchen with limited features. I was attracted to it because of the view.

Rooms were simple but sufficient. Good bed even though too short for my length. Staff was polite and helpful but didn't speak English which made it a bit difficult to communicate. Translate helped.

A very nice quiet place. Staff is nice. The hotel is old but clean. A little bit too long way by a car to get the hotel but it is worth it. The view is really beautiful.
While on a business trip, I had the opportunity to stay at this lovely hotel. The views from my room, particularly the sunsets, were breathtaking. The sounds of the local fauna was relaxing.
A santorini vibe, the view is great… a perfect place for weddings and special events…
The overlooking near the hotel is also nice, just a 2minutes walk from the hotel.

Fukuoka hotels are expensive and hiked up due to many Asian tourists. Booked for early Dec. About $900 USD for 5 nights, breakfast not included.
