Kyoto Higashiyama Santouan

This is a local family run bed and breakfast. It has great views and wonderful homey feel at the most affordable prices in the area. Very safe. Highly recommend.

A wonderful Ryokan experience. Kind and warm hosts, who made us feel immediately at ease and treated us as their own family. We were served freshly prepared and delicious Japanese style breakfasts each morning in the beautiful dining area overlooking the city.
The view from the Ryokan is stunning and the rooms are beautifully appointed and have all modern comforts needed for an easy stay.
Santouan is well situated to visit the popular Kiyomizu dera and Kodai-ji temples and whilst it's a little far from the centre of Kyoto and other attractions I wouldn't let this dissuade you from what was truly a magical 4 nights. We would return in a heartbeat.

I've been here since spring, and I've always been amazed by the food, and today, for the fourth time, I cooked some kind of hijiki, and the concentrated flavor and crispness of the konjac, sweet potato, and lotus root, which are simmered without any broth, is numbing. Today, I'm going to try the oden. I know that boiled chicken liver is good for your health. I was happy with the usual fluffy towels and enjoyed the fluffiness of non-microfiber towels for a while. I also appreciated the electric blankets. Some of the large glass windows overlooking Kyoto Tower are old glass with a wavy feel, and the light up through them is animated in the video. It's okay to come out.
If you turn off the refrigerator, ventilation fan, and air conditioner and enjoy the silence, the fan of your beloved machine X1 will also become quieter.
