Was able to check in at 3 and had dinner delivered and check out at noon! Breakfast was amazing!

The breakfast in the morning was great.

Counter service was first class, room is nice and clean, and military discount for the win.

After we had a snafu with our deal from an online company not to be mentioned, Patrice was very kind to take care of us and make sure we got into a room. That was two hours ago and we’re still waiting for that company to call us, so thank you Patrice!

We stayed here for our first year back in Charleston for Tsubasacon 2019, and what blew us away more than anything was the wonderfully warm, fun and overall hotel phenomenal staff. They were so welcoming and so excited about our costumes and our event, wanting pictures of us, wanting to participate in our ribbon game, and just making the weekend so unbelievably pleasant and memorable. We may have to stay at another hotel next year solely because a member of our group needs a pool for hydrotherapy reasons if they’re super active, but I can’t recommend this hotel and its staff enough and we’ll definitely be by every day of next year’s con to visit our new friends there! ❤️

WE had an amazing stay this past weekend for Tsubasacon. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back next year!

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. All I really needed was a hot shower and comfortable night’s sleep and that’s exactly what I got. This hotel had great Wi-Fi and a nice big flat screen tv. In the morning, I had a nice breakfast provided by the hotel and since the check-out was at 12 I got to enjoy that flat screen with a cup of coffee that I made in my room before hitting the road. I recommend this hotel to any one regardless if you are on business or on vacation, its safe, clean and comfortable. Also, the staff was very friendly and eager to help.

The place was a dump in need of a total renovation!

This hotel is a little off the beaten trail, but easily accessible. While the exterior appears dated, don't let that fool you. The rooms are surprisingly spacious and the beds! Oh the bedding is outstanding! The hotel is doing an admirable job staying current with free Wi-Fi and breakfast. The amenities are really nice. I'm very glad I ended up staying here. It was a great and much needed resting point in our trip.

Stayed here overnight for one night. The beds were super comfortable and the room was very clean. Great location with plenty of night life activities. Got a good feel of the city. My only complaint is the in house coffee was undrinkable it was so disgusting. Fortunately there was coffee available in the lobby, which had a great taste, whenever I was in need. The continental breakfast was also delicious.

Nice hotel, but expected more for the price.
Beds were super hard, only had 2 towels in our room… and breakfast was just disappointing, to say the least! Even the fresh trays of eggs and sausage were cold, and the waffle maker was broken. They should have had a back up waffle maker!
Probably won't give it another try.

Location was fine I was traveling and stopped on the way. Rooms were clean a little rundown but not bad. Service was great! They moved me to another room quickly when I requested it. The breakfast was above average.

Charleston, WV is an interesting and sad place. It is interesting because it has beauty and potential. It is so sad because it doesn't know that the party was over a long time ago and it's not feasible to live like it's coming back. It is a city badly affected by poverty. None of that is about the hotel but it sets the scene. I will be very frank about this hotel. It is supposed to have been renovated somewhat recently, but I would say it feels like about a decade ago. There is supposed to be a pool but I never saw it. There was a boxing convention in the hotel when we were there so it was packed full of little kids who were getting hit, which was disturbing, but the kids wanted to do it. I asked them. The kids were very polite, the teens and adults were louder, but they were a racially mixed group who seemed to care nothing about race and that was wonderful. They were all very friendly. The breakfast was, as usual at Holiday Inn Express, absolutely wonderful. We had trouble in our room, a bunch of trouble that I don't need to specify. The hotel took our trouble very, very seriously. I spoke with the Assistant General Manager the night we discovered the trouble (she called every person who had been in our room at home at 10pm), and the next day met with her again and with the Head of Housekeeping. We came to a resolution that I found acceptable and in retrospect generous. They actually thanked me for the feedback and the opportunity to make things better, very sincerely.

I always get top of the line service every year I come here. It's right across the convention center, the mall, and a lot of good places to eat so I don't have to rent a car. The river runs right behind it and the time of year that I come, the property is surrounded by fireflies. The fireflies really add to the peaceful ambience of the hotel. The free breakfast buffet in the morning is one of my favorite things about the place. I eat as much as I can, lol. That really saves me quite a bit of money on the daily. I'm usually here for the national junior Olympic boxing tournament so I'm very happy to say that I am pleased with the gym here. The shuttle is awesome too.

Staff super friendly who is willing to help you with big groups — some of us could check in earlier than it was planned. Comfortable and clean rooms followed by a tasty breakfast in the morning. And it’s super close to downtown Charleston.

Are you serious. The bed is so broke down in the middle… It's like rolling down a hill… No microwave. No refrigerator to keep my on the road sandwiches cold… Never again! … S***hole!

Best holiday inn express we have ever stayed in. Very welcoming staff from the first step in the front door. Staff is exceptional. Our room was very nice. Bed was a bit firm but I prefer that so no issue there. Breakfast was super good. Good coffee. Good biscuits and gravy. Good egg white omelettes. Can’t say enough about this location. We will be back next time we come through the area.

Comfortable stay right downtown in a good location. Very friendly staff with a clean and quiet room. The breakfast was tasty. A simple, but nice place to stay.

They killed it. Wonderful service 24 hours a day. Made my stay so much better. Totally convenient for anything in downtown Charleston. Great breakfast.

Kim (and the other lovely ladies) at the front desk was genuinely friendly, and her bright personality was refreshing after a long drive and a not-great stay at another local hotel. She upgraded our room at no charge and allowed my fiance and I to have a quiet, relaxing night's sleep in a cozy, clean room. I would absolutely recommended this hotel and visit again!

Great location to food and shopping. The rooms are quiet and the atmosphere of the guests made it seem family friendly. The gym and pool is nothing to right home about but it's there. Kind of disappointed there was no bar within the hotel for the adults that can't break too far away from the family. However you can say the free breakfast made up for it. Overall reasonable price and great pivotal point for places of entry. Dislike they have to do something about the slow elevator and the rooms even though coxy feel dated to lack of fridge/microwave.

Run down holiday inn. Poor Wi-Fi signal in room, microwave on a bar stool, no mini frig in room, worn out mattress. Pass.

Typically love Holiday Inn Express but this was my worst experience in one yet. Actual trash behind furniture and on the floor. Piles of dust, hadn't been cleaned properly in months at least. Keep driving.

Front desk associates were nice. However for the price I paid for the room, I expected a lot nicer amenities. It didn't have a fridge which was inconvenient, bathroom was not clean there was still hair in the floor, and the wall outlets were busted up and broken which is very unsafe and hazardous! I forgot some of my belongings including cosmetics in the restroom, called to see if housekeeping returned them & of course they said they were not seen! My makeup Was very expensive, being dishonest gets you no where! I will not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Unfriendly, rude and incompetent reception staff. Too lazy to get an extra bed. To three we only got a full-size bed, our son had to sleep on blankets on the floor, the lady was even on the phone to the lady of Hotwire Rude and refused completely. The breakfast was uebel and at 10 o'clock everything was immediately removed from the guests ' nose. Awful… if I could give zero stars, I would do it.

The room and staff were nice. The only complaint is the beds are a little small and they don't recycle. Otherwise it's a nice place to stay.

Holiday Inn Express is our go-to while on tour and this location meets expectations and then some; this particular one is in a perfect location off 64 and 77. This location is in downtown Charleston, which seems like a fun, safe place I had never previously visited; hotel also featured free parking which is seemingly rare at downtown hotel locations. We had a quick and easy late check in by a super friendly staff member who accommodated a last minute change in room type. I really like HIE’s with designs and color schemes as this one; some of the newer ones make me feel like I’m boarding the Starship Enterprise. Room was extremely clean and comfy; great bedding, perfect water pressure, and excessive amounts of hot water. Love hotels that give you 4 full size pillows per bed – and this location offered 2 firm and 2 soft which is a rare treat. Breakfast was top notch and featured every continental breakfast item ever available – and all varieties of juice were in good working order! We loved this hotel; great staff and good location. Can’t wait to come back. A+

It is an all right Holiday Inn Express. Seems to be one of the old Holiday Inns that was converted into an Express. Definitely in need of updating but still nice place to stay if you're in the area.

Guest service was fantastic! Rooms were clean and I loved the cocktail hour! It was overall a great experience.

The hotel staff here is phenomenal. As I checked in, I was greeted as if I was the most important guest of the day. Then, as I checked out, I received the same treatment from entirely different employees. The room was clean and comfortable and my overall experience was great.

Stayed here for 1 night in early January. Just a pleasant stay from start to finish. The check-in process was quick and painless, which was much appreciated after a long drive through WV. Comfortable bed, big desk, delicious breakfast. Thanks for a wonderful stay! Hope to be back in Charleston soon, and I'll know where I'll be staying.

The hotel was very average. It became obvious that they don't have a lot of people who stay at the hotel when I arrived. My room was well kept but the thermostat was still set to air conditioner so my room was 57°F when I arrived.

The customer service, staff was great. The breakfast room in the morning was full of selections and quite cheerful. My wife, myself and our 2 young kids felt quite welcomed.

The interior was pretty, and the staff were great. For what we paid we should have had a fridge and hot water. There was a huge hole in the bathroom wall where an access panel should have been and no stopper for the tub. At $145 a night we expected the basics. Next year we'll stay somewhat else.

This was a nice hotel right in downtown Charleston, WV. It's clean and accessible to everything in the city. The staff was very helpful and checked us right in. The Wi-Fi worked great and the rooms are clean and comfortable. There were plenty of places to eat nearby. The parking lot was large and well lit and we got a good parking spot to load in. There was a microwave and fridge in the room and all of the carpet was new and modern. This would be a good hotel whether you're traveling through for business or with a family.

Just ok don't get excited. Shower cold. Bathroom under construction. Hope the breakfast is good.

Below average Holiday Inn Express. Coffee in the lobby was frequently empty. Room was dirty. Breakfast was nice but busy at times since they cater to bus tours.

UPDATED*** I stayed here before and I have to say this place was just as good as all the other times. First off, the lobby/breakfast area is super nice. I like their breakfast a lot, and thats not somethign I can say about most hotels. The rooms were very spacious and clean. My bed was perfect, I slept like a baby. Not to mention you are a hop, skip, and a jump from the mall and the rest of downtown which is a beautiful town to explore, or anything your heart desires, this always where I stay in Charleston. The hotel is amazing! I truly enjoyed my stay. The room was very clean, technology/furniture was modern; flat screens, cable, chairs, couches, etc. The staff was welcoming and accommodating. I faced no problems, which is a great luxury to have. It was located in a great part of town, a lot of stuff nearby to do while staying in town even though every need could be met just at the hotel. If you travel a lot you see some weird hotels sometimes, so it’s good when I can find a great diamond in the rough. I was very impressed with the quality room and that I was able to get it for a fair price.

Anthony at the front desk was amazing, the 1st room he gave us had an odor, and a lamp out, but he was quick to move us to a new room. We were pleasantly surprised by the breakfast. My 12 y/o picky eater went back for seconds of the pancakes, and I think my 14 y/o ate all the scrambled eggs.

The staff at this holiday in are amazing and compassionate. They treat their guests as family and truly care how each visit has been. They also care about the well being and comfort of each guest. I felt as though they were my family. Benny and James in the buffet area, Dan and the front desk personnel, and housekeeping staff were all amazing. Management was very courteous and professional. Just an all amazing experience.

James in breakfast area does an excellent Job! Nothing is ever empty. HE keeps EVERYTHING full at all times. Very cheerful and friendly to all. We rate him a 10 plus. Morning check out staff couldn't be nicer. Very nice visit. When we are in area will stay with you.

I have been to a lot hotels. The breakfast was very good. The staff was very nice and the housekeeping was super good. Everyone was very nice. I specially like the cookies.

Customer service was excellent, from checking in/out. The staff keeping pace while eating breakfast was excellent as well. I've always had good experiences with Holiday Inn stays so I suppose I'll be booking with them from here on out. :-)

The service was great. I teetered between 2 and 3 stars though because our room smelled so strongly of mildew that it was hard to take. It might be a regional thing that I'm unaware of, but they need to invest in dehumidifiers if that's the case. Other than that, the sheets had little balled up thread patches that made them uncomfortable. The people were the best thing about the hotel.

Rooms were priced well. They did fill up fast. One thing to note is they do not have a pool. Look at another hotel if you need a pool. Breakfast was decent and very busy later in the morning.

Rooms are fairly large, a little dated but the beds are comfortable. They offer free cookies all day, standard breakfast and I believe free happy hour on select weekdays. Would stay here again when in town.

My family and I were traveling through and decided to stop at this Holiday Inn Express and we were more than pleased. My girls loved their free cookies, our room was very clean and looked updated. They had a crib and what appeared to be a brand new blanket for my youngest. The beds were very nice and soft with labels as to firm or soft pillows, and the room was well insulated, we couldn't hear others outside our room. The gentleman that was in charge of the continental breakfast was amazing. He took such pride in his job, and communicated with all the guess around him. He also helped throw guest trash away, brought children including my own a cookie after they finish eating. I've never seen someone in charge of the breakfast line so kind and caring and full of life. Thank you for the pleasant experience even though it was very short.

Holiday Inn Express Charleston-Civic Center has all the best things you would want in a hotel stay. They are located right in the heart of downtown Charleston. From my window I can see the Civic Center, and a huge mall, and plenty of downtown restaurants. Checking in they had a huge plate of warm cookies waiting for me. How can you go wrong with warm cookies at check in?! My room was clean and the king size bed was just what I needed after my long drive. In the morning they had a great workout room that I passed to go directly to the their complementary breakfast. The menu consisted of all my favorites plus a pancake machine. I like this better than a waffle maker because there is no fuss or muss. Just push a button and you have pancakes! If you are coming to Charleston this would be the place to stay.

The staff was great and so was the breakfast. The rooms were nice… the bathroom could havr been bigger and the 5 week old pizza crust we found between the box springs could have been found by cleaning a little better. Other than that great stay.

Great location, great staff and a great breakfast. Sure it's got the usual cereal, coffee, bread, etc, but this place also has a pancake maker and double chocolate chip muffins! Snag some of those for the road! The rooms were very clean and a great 3 setting shower that helps if you've got to get a kink in your neck out! The only minor complaint I have the housekeeping staff knocked on my door about 3 times in one hour to see if I was leaving. This is before the noon checkout. Other than that it was great stay.

I've staid here twice now and both times were a great experience. They are priced pretty well considering their location, which is perfect, just close enough to everything but far enough away to avoid too much freeway noise. It was a bit of a let down they didn't have a hot tub or pool though. Not a big deal as I wasn't there for too long though. I believe they remodeled recently too, because my second stay the room had been updated to much better furniture and a better tv.

The checkin process was simple. No issues at all with the hotel. My rook was clean. Breakfast was good. The location is downtown across the street there is a large mall. Many restaurants within walking distance. Would stay again.

Travis at front desk was a wonderful agent tried to meet my expectation. I had that experience beforw with the night auditor Donald and Christine, Donald moved to Barboursville as a manager, and Cristine moved to corporate. I miss them but I will definately come back here. Thank you Travis.

Staying here was a treat. It was close to mall, food, and the civic center. Rooms were clean and check in was smooth. I am a music teacher attending a conference with several students; the staff was polite and efficient, and they were dealing with a lot of kids and schools from around our state. Breakfast quality and service was excellent. I am going to recommend to my administration that we make this hotel our home base for future conferences in Charleston, as this is the smoothest and most positive experience I have had in a hotel with my students.

I recently stayed at this location and I highly recommend it to anyone passing through. The hotel is located right off the highway and not too far from the downtown area. It’s also close to the mall and you can get there by a quick drive or if you want to get a little exercise it’s close enough for a walk. The staff was friendly and professional. I needed a late check out and they were able to accommodate my request with no problem. The room was clean and comfortable. Not too much more you could ask for on a brief visit!

Room was as expected. 6th floor had a good view of the river. Parking was tight. Hotel right in downtown. Very easy access to the freeway. Lovely river walk. Wifi worked with good speed. I'd recommend the hotel if staying in the area.

So your 2 star rating just went to a one star! This hotel charged me 3.21 for a bottle of water that I did not drink! I am sure it was your low paid housekeeper! The front desk staff tried to act as if I was lying! Lady, I am a platinum elite member, what does that tell you? I can afford your water if necessary! On a good note, the check in staff, Michael was extremely courteous and polite! However, the room was filthy and disgusting. The bathroom floor looked as if it had not been swept in awhile. There was dirt and hair on the floor. The carpet had stains in it. No refrigerator or microwave in the rooms. Beds were old and uncomfortable. I would not recommend this hotel.

This place has some of the friendliest staff I've ever dealt with. The gentlemen I dealt with was very knowledgeable about the area in relation to food and things to do in downtown Charleston. My room was clean and free of dust. (I hate dust). My bed was firm and plush at the same time. Not sure if that makes sense, but I want that bed in my house! From 8pm to 12am they served all you can eat pancakes for FREE! You can't go wrong there. I will stay here again when I revisit WV.
