Reviews of The Paul Hotel NYC-Chelsea, Ascend Hotel Collection 4*
We literally received an email 2 DAYS BEFORE OUR TRIP that our booking had been canceled. Still have yet to receive a refund, its been more than a week later! We have yet been able to get a hold of anyone. Worst hotel EVER!
When I arrived, I was told my reservation was cancelled the day before and they hadn't had time to contact me. Wasted money on an uber getting there and they didn't even have transport for me to get to the hotel I had been rebooked to.
The location is great. But th hotel is in bad shape, the towels and bed sheets are old and look disgusting! It seems that the have cut completely the maintenance budget!
This hotel is awful. The room wasn't ready at check-in. Several outlets in the room didn't work. The A/C didn't work. The bathroom light was a motion sensor, which would activate anytime you moved in the hotel room, but couldn't tell when you were in the shower, so the light would go out a few minutes after getting into the shower. Worst of all, its impossible to get in touch with anyone at the hotel if you aren't standing at the front desk. I need a copy of my hotel receipt and have called no less than 50 times trying every option possible, but all routes lead to a full voicemail box. No one ever answers the phone. They also don't respond to inquiries via their website.
DO NOT STAY HERE! Do not stay at this trash hotel. We had NO AC in our first room. We were moved to a second room where we were told the AC was working. After 30 minutes in the room the AC never kicked on. Both rooms only had the fan running. We spoke with the front desk who said they would forward our complaint to the manager but they could not offer us a refund on the spot. While leaving we were told we had to email the manager for a refund. It has been a WEEK with no email replies to 2 messages. No phone calls back with messages being left. Now their front desk voicemail is full. No one answers the phones at this hotel.
Worst room ever room was dirty disgusting roaches alive and dead drugs in the small refrigerator inside the room and the The white linen on the bed were disgusting talk to the customer service lady in the front desk worthless she didn’t want us to change to a different room she didn’t even want to give us a refund after 10 minutes of in the room have tried to call all the numbers that she gave me emails and nobody answers the freaking phone I just want my money back for a room that I didn’t even use I did not recommend this hotel to nobody.
10 clean up! how much dirt (even to be NY) is exaggerated the location is amazing handy to all trains! comfortable beds and pillows! 1. Windows full of dirt! you can't see through them 2. Daily cleaning does not exist, several days they do not do the cleaning! cleaning is not good! 3. CLEANLINESS DISASTER in the bathroom appeared hairs of all colors and sizes of others guests, it is seen that when passing the mop or whatever 4. Common areas dirty … bar closed, rooftop closed … 5. They charge you $5 per bag to leave them in the trunk (never happened to us) 6. They charge a deposit of $150 with the excuse of what smokers …
This hotel SUCKS. We had paid in full like 2 months ago to come for our anniversary. 4 days before my husband gets put into a cast all the way to his knee and the Doctor says no walking. The hotel was very nasty to us, and refuses to refund any amount. She was extremely nasty to me, and said no refund, and hung up on me, a manager, and that is after calling 76 times, no joke. 76 times to get them to answer the phone. How can a hotel operate that way. 76 times just to get them to answer the phone, and then be so nasty to me and yell at me the whole time and be on her speaker phone and not even pick up the phone to speak to me. Mean lady. Who would ever want to stay at that hotel?
Daughter and her friend checked in after booking a room with bunkbeds and was told that the room was no longer available. Gave them a room with a queen bed when there is two individuals and they booked a bunkbed. Personnel at the front desk said that a large party came in and their room was given to them. No notification was given or called prior to them giving away the room. Then they want to charge them more, Absolute joke and Mickey Mouse run hotel. Front desk is trying to blame others and won’t take ownership to take care of a customer.
Could be better. Rooftop Bar was closed due to covid. Not too many amenities like a gym, laundry room etc. Simple and basic. Guest services need help answering the phones though. The shower was not too hot, so engineers need to look into that. Maybe they have a staffing shortage, but at least my room was clean. The price was affordable, and I wouldn't call it the worse hotel. Lol Trust me! I've stayed at bad hotels like The Hotel Penn (which is now closed)
As a travel agent, I have to say that this is one of the worst hotel I have ever dealt with. I would never recommend this property ever again. They are unresponsive. They have in writing on their website Cancellation Policy Standard Cancellation Time Cancellation Fee 24 hours or more prior to check-in time Free cancellation (100% refund) Less than 24 hours before check-in time One night's booking amount Advance Purchase, Promotional Rates more than 15% or any other Non-Refundable Rate Complete Booking Amount But, the do NOT honor it. They stole my client's money and refused to refund. I gave the cancelation policy to my clients and told them to chargeback the CC. I tried MULTIPLE times to contact this hotel over a week and they not only NEVER answer, their always have a full mailbox. Do not book here. As an agent, there are 100s of better solutions.
I have called for a week straight and have not been answered at all. Choicehotels. Com is actually charging them with a fee for not answering THEIR calls. They said it’s extremely unacceptable. Wouldn’t recommend this hotel and I HAVEN’T EVEN STAYED HERE YET.
I spent the night in a room without air conditioning and with lights that flashed off and on all night long. When I complained at the front desk no one ever came up to fix the problems. The front desk person also said if you stay in a room on the lower floors that they have all electrical problems in the rooms. Do not stay here it was the worst place in New York City I ever stayed.
They have small trash bins Mini and t to they don’t answer the phones. The front lounge is private the parking can’t be charged to the room. No microwave. Uncomfortable seating in the bar. Unprofessional handling in a false fire alarm. I’ve never had issues like these in any hotel.
It’s no other hotel I would rather stay, the Paul hotel is all you expect and more, it reaches your expectations and service your budget well, weather it’s business or a family get away, the Paul hotel is more then just an experience, it’s a lifestyle.
Due to covid occupancy restrictions, we were moved to a sister hotel, The Paul Hotel. We were told it was a 4 star hotel. I'm still searching for the other 3 stars. It was supposedly a non-smoking hotel, yet Marijuana permeated both elevators and each floor it opened to. The floor in the room was never mopped. The mattress had never been turned, was lumpy and was shredded underneath the sheet. The bathroom lights didn't work properly. Purchased snacks from the vending machine which were all expired. The front deak was no help in rectifying the issue. The phone system was a joke. I've jad better stays at roadside motels than this establishment. Not an ambassador for tourism for the city of New York.
Yes, the rooms are small. Very small. I could tolerate that, it’s everything else that I can’t. First, we were booked at their sister property, Tryp, in family rooms that accommodate 8, but day of arrival we were advised that they had to close due to street closings. Weird, but okay. Don’t worry, they said, we put you in our sister property. Fine. Upon arrival, we need 4 rooms to try & give us the space we paid for. One of the rooms had dirty towels & underwear on the floor, makes me wonder if anything is cleaned at this property, let alone sanitized. None of the rooms have washcloths and one was missing toilet paper. Also, this hotel costs less than the one I reserved, but no credit/refund has been extended to me. I am very disappointed that I brought my family here and I will never book with this company again. I will be speaking with management in the morning because no one is here right now to address my concerns.
The most nastiest hotel, trash out the elevator,. Hair all. Over sheets nasty stuff on the walls. Better to sleep in your vehicle or a central park instead of here. Disgusting. Save your money don't stay here.
I’ve stayed at the hotel for a few days and paid my $150 the deposit. They said that it might take 3-7 days to get it back. The time it’s gone, I sent emails, called them, etc. And nobody gave me any answer at all.
Amazing place, near from Chelsea, real good place and very nice people working here! Thank you for all.
The Paul Hotel is unique and trendy. Located in Chelsea next to fantastic places to eat and drink, the Paul Hotel is perfectly situated in a fantastic area of New York City. The rooms were on par with the latest trends and had outlets on both sides of the bed to plug in items to charge. My view was absolutely amazing on the 16th floor. The staff are courteous as well. I think one of the best things I noticed was the constant cleaning the crew did in the elevators and lobby to ensure a safe environment for patrons. This means a lot me. The beds are very comfortable and there is a mini-fridge in the room to keep some drinks cold. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and will come back again.
Despite NY declaring a state of emergency, the hotel manager is refusing to refund money to customers — even when they event they are attending is also canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. This is the same as price gouging and is an absolutely horrid way to do business.
Employees are not empowered to make any decisions regarding guest experiences. We were not allowed to speak with a manager because for this whole hotel there is only one and she is only available from 10a-5p weekdays. This is my last booking with Choice properties.
I love staying here. Clean and efficient accommodations for a very reasonable rate. Close to everything I want. Wonderful weekday bartender.
Enjoyed our families stay at The Paul, had 2 rooms between 5 and found it more than enough space for our week break. The rooms were clean and modern, as was the foyer and entry courtyard. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced place to stay and conveniently centred to some of NYs best attractions, I recommend The Paul.
I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights, checked out on Dec 9. I pretty much liked the hotel even though the room was small. It had everything you would need for your stay. My concern is that they have charged 150 usd from my card (as per the standard procedure, they told me) and promised that would refund soon since I have left the room in perfect condition. Still didnt get my refund and can't reach anybody on the phone. Please review my case and respond.
Thanks,
Fatima Taghiyeva.
I could go on and on about how disgusting this hotel is. The hotel is cramped, outdated, filthy and the staff and management will disappoint you over and over again. I had over $900 taken out of my account and have fought and fought for refund and I have gotten nowhere. Dont stay here.
A comically small room with low ceilings — you literally have to climb over one bed to get into the bathroom with a 4 inch clearance. Pictures for proof. Not sure how this passes safety code, but it’s almost too funny to complain about.
We stayed there as a family of 4 and it was wonderful! The room was big enough for us to sleep and very clean! It’s about a mile from Times Square and the theater district so we walked there. We would stay there again for sure!
We booked a room on the morning of our stay. We showed up paid and were not given a receipt, that was our fault. I was given a piece of paper saying we would pay a deposit Incase if damages and nothing else. We were told our room would be $399 for the weekend. I was charged $440 for the weekend and then $173 on 2 separate occasions for a no show charge. Today is Tuesday August 6 at 1:36 pm I have been attempting to contact the management staff since 11 am on August 5th and have been told multiple times the manager is not there or that they could not come to the phone. I have given my name and number to 2 different front desk employees on 2 different occasions. Do not stay here, they will take your reservation and then rebook you when you check in. The air conditioning did not work for half of our stay and now I’m in a position where I can’t even speak to anyone who can help. Beyond feeling frustrated I feel like I’ve been robbed. I will never stay at an ascend or choice hotel property again.
We booked 2 rooms at The Paul for 5 days for mother's 60th birthday. We put her in room 801 and they had a great stay. The A/C worked and other than the floor not being clean, everything was fine. However, here is what happened with our room, 803:
— When we arrived at 9:45pm we had to wait around in the lobby for 20+ minutes because our room wasn't ready.
— Our A/C didn't work for the entire 5 days. They sent a guy to look at it once and try to convince us that it is designed to turn on once every few hours to save energy. When we pointed out that we had 2 to rooms and the other one was actually cool and comfortable, he said, "oh, yeah, well I guess we should figure this out. " They never sent anyone back. We asked to switch rooms and they said they could only do it if we waited around for the day until another room opened up to move our own stuff.
— On day 2, my sister in law's diamond earrings and necklace went missing from our room. She had put them in a clear plastic cup on the dresser. We confronted the front desk and they said they must have been accidentally thrown away… but all the other garbage (packaging and clothing tags), were still sitting on the dresser. They said they'd go through the garbage but did not invite us to observe. They said they would give us the the names of the cleaning crew to file a police report but made excuses about having information for us the next day over the subsequent 4 days of our stay.
Mediocre hotel in Midtown with no amenities. It feels more like an apartment building than a hotel.
There was a wall unit for heating/cooling, sure. But that one didn't work so a significant portion of the limited floor plan was taken up with a floor cooling unit with exhaust yes, duct taped into the window. The hotel's selling point is it's view of the Empire state building, but this was also a trick: there's a new building accross the street that now blocks the view from most rooms. I feel bad for the lovely staff who made our stay livable, but get out while you can! Good luck in the future, Paul!
Great locations and complementary luggage service: they will keep your luggage even if you check out! The space was a bit small (I know it's a Manhattan). The shower had low pressure and the bathroom smelled like a not properly dried rag (hot humid summer). Service is great!
Our first room was still dirty. There was hair in the shower and stains on the bed sheets, and we did not have a mini fridge. One of the windows also did not close, which would not matter but we were on the 3rd floor. I spoke to one of the women on the front desk and she said we could get a new room, but when we went down another woman said that someone would have to inspect our room first before we got another room. I normally do not think it's a big deal if my first room is dirty just get me another one. However, I have never been told that the hotel needs to verify that my room is actually dirty before they'd move me up a new room. The beds frames are square and have sharp corners which is perfect height to hit your legs into in such a small room. The AC also would stop working randomly, and when we called the front desk for help, he said someone would be right up but no one showed up. The bar and food were excellent, but we were told that there was no microwave in the entire hotel that we could use to heat our leftover food in. The hotel was too much money for what we got. I would not recommend.
If you believe this place is a 4-star property, I have a bridge to sell you. Full of pressboard furniture and rooms that make a Pod hotel room look huge, the Paul is a con job of a hotel. The AC doesn’t work. You will not get the room you reserved, even if you pre-pay it. And the beds are like the one in your friend’s guest room that is a holdover from their college days. The shower is actually really nice, so there is that. I assume most of the positive reviews are paid for or fake. Beware.
We booked one night. After we checked in, we asked to extend our stay another night. They said yes, told us the price, and said we were all set. We went down in the morning to confirm, and they said that was a mistake, and that we had to check out because there were no more rooms.
Thoughtfully designed with great service and affordable luxury for all. Refined, sophisticated smart and simple guest rooms integrated with seamless frictionless technology. All comforts of home.
Pretty nice hotel in NYC. The location is very close to Penn Station as well as Broadway which is really convenient for tourists. The rooms are really beautiful, quiet, fully air conditioned (essential during summer in NYC) and are cleaned regularly by maid. Their huge bed was even better than the one at home. It’s usually the other way around with hotels :) The night view from the window is lovely. I would also recommend to try their pancakes in the morning. They are terrific!
The hotel is about a 10min walk from Penn Station. Really modern bedrooms (usb power connections on each side of the bed). Tv, safe, iron, hairdryer are available. The rooftop bar is great with a fabulous view of the Empire State.
This was a great place to stay for the price. We stayed here on short notice and still got a great price. The location is perfect and close to the subway. There is a killer rooftop bar that is intimate but has a view of the Empire State building. The only thing negative that we encountered was the small rooms. Those are expected for the price that you pay.
The hotel is really OK. The location is convenient and the view of the Empire State Building is great.
The rooms are very small, but the hotel is in a convenient location. The bathroom didn't seem to have a ventilation fan you could turn on which made the room a little humid. There was an air conditioner, but it wasn't very powerful. Overall it was a decent hotel for the price and location. We spent most of our time in the city rather than in the room anyways.
Hotel is nice! The price is decent for what we get. The rooms are not massive but very clean. On a positive note we had an amazing view on the Empire State Building! Terrasse is a nice bonus! I really enjoy my stay there.
I liked it a lot! It is very nice, the location is very good. What if it is that the breakfast Buffet could have more variety. Obvious, that they had things very rich! Only missed more variety. And as another constructive criticism, it would be the theme of the mattresses, because you could tell he had quite a bit of use.
Everything you need in a central location. Clean rooms, comfy beds, helpful staff and a keen price.
Basic food and drink, and moderate sized rooms, but we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and can recommend it for a hub for sightseeing.
Surprised Me pleasantly in every sense. It is a very modern and cute. Positive: Rooms, which have up to the last detail and, at the least, that it touched me to my, an incredible view of the Empire State. The attention and excellent staff. Negative: The area is a bit dark but nothing unsafe. When you stay at this hotel, you can see Manhattan from another point as it is not located in the center classic of the city, but slightly more to the south. I recommend it very much, I will return without a doubt.
Great rooms and convenient location close to the subway to see all the sights! Staff was friendly and let us leave our bags while we saw the city since we arrived earlier than check-in. Only downside is that continental breakfast isn’t included. Also, if you’re not used to the city sounds (sirens, people yelling, cars, etc) this isn’t the place for you. There’s construction going on across the street starting around 7am. They provide headphones which helps. But keep those things in mind when coming. Besides that we had a great stay!
Hotel overlooking the Empire State Building. Youth atmosphere, music, restaurant and rooftop bar. Great influx of Spanish people.
My biggest note is that this hotel is undergoing major renovations and the restaurant and bar are not open except for breakfast (which I cannot speak to, as I did not come down for it). The bar is rundown, I noticed a really wobbly chair and the handrail to the basement had tears in the leather. Their staff was very helpful and professional, but they seemed to be running short on bodies! The room at the Paul was comfortable and clean. I reserved on of the rooms with bunkbeds for fun. I estimate it was under 100 sq feet, bathroom included. If you're looking for a pair of rooms for adults and kids, this one is great because there's an exterior door that will make them a suite that can be opened by either key! Even ignoring the bunkbed, it is not very accessible for anyone with mobility issues. The walkways are very narrow and the door into the bathroom is quite the squeeze (I'd say no more than 24 inches wide! ).
Small, nice hotel in a central location.
The hotel is great, but tiny bedrooms as you can expect in Manhattan. Attention to customers is rude, though. Had my room reserved and paid for three nights, but I couldn't make it the first night. When I got there in the morning, my room was not ready because they have occupied ot with another guest. Had to wait like an hour to get a room, I had to postpone my job interview. I did not get a refund. I even was rushed to leave my bedroom and the end of my stay.
Everybody has different tastes. Someone posted that their view sucked. I booked two weeks in advance, and the website was pretty clear concerning what rooms had good views, so I booked one with a good view. Someone complained that there was no lobby. There is a lobby, and it is very comfortable, it's just not immediately visible because it's behind reception. Others complained about cleanliness, and then others said it was very clean. My room was immaculate. People complained that the rooms were too small. If you look at the pics on the website, this is clear. The rooms are about as large as a balcony stateroom on a cruise ship, with higher ceilings. Now here's the thing, this is NYC, you're on 29th street, and most subway lines have entrances on 28th, making this a great location. Also, my room was $130. That's a good deal for a nice, clean, modern room. I don't know about consistency, because this was my first stay, but I'm coming back in February. And the staff could not have been more helpful.
Great hotel near the hub of Manhattan is located 2 steps from the Empire State Building. Very friendly and helpful staff The rooms are a little small but functional and equipped with the necessary TT (bathroom courtesy set, coffee machine, iron and ironing board, safe, TV, Phon) down in reception screen pc to find info and get some selfie to send on your mail. Breakfast not included (extra aside) but they still provide you with the milk coffee and biscuits. It also has restaurant and roof where they organize aperitifs.
Very nice room caught on the 22nd floor. Dreamlike views directly on the Empire State Building staff were very nice and dedicated.
Only cleanliness was a small downer.
Nice trendy hotel in a great area. Small rooms, nice and cheap breakfast. Paying $5 per piece of luggage above 2 for keeping it in the basement on our last day after we checked out is a real joke…
Stayed here in December, 2017, on the 7th floor in the room with two double beds. Everything was good, except our room was adjacent to another and there was a door in between. We could hear absolutely every conversation and sound in the other room, I'm sure they heard everything that was going on in our room. I guess, not every room in the hotel is like this. So it depends on where you end up.
Asked to store my pumped breast milk in my own cooler in the staff freezer. This has been done in the past at many other hotels without issue as long as we provide our own cooler, but the staff was completely unwilling to accomadate. Very unfortunate.
Clean room and nice service. The water pressure in the sink and shower was weird and would constantly change between hot and cold water. Stayed overnight in November and the heater stopped working in the middle of the night.
Super bad experience! Confirmed the room eith terrace and gave us a room without it, poor service and overall a very bad experience.
Staff was helpful and allowed us to check into the room very early and we were able to drop off our bags. Room was nicely appointed, terrace was a nice bonus and the view from the 22nd floor lounge of the Empire State Building was breathtaking! One of the beds significantly blocked access to the bathroom as the room was small and my daughter bumped her leg a few times using it. Other than that the room was great and the hotel is in a nice and convenient part of the city. We were able to walk to our Broadway show and dinner and activity in Union Square. I would recommend the Paul. The young lady was nice and told my daughter Happy Birthday when I said we were there to celebrate her 16th Birthday!
Not a bad hotel, however the pictures are very deceiving. There was no tub for the shower, just a regular bathroom floor with drains making a complete mess of water and a safety hazard. Garbage left out in the hall, cracked mirrors, the locks for the bathroom and terrace were not working. I was under the impression that the terrace would be completely private however, it is in fact separated by a mini “garden” and is shared. Tried calling front desk several times however, they did not answer so I had to travel downstairs to get a situation resolved. At least the people were nice.
Excellent attention. The location of the hotel is very convenient. The rooms are comfortable and you have enought space to accommodate the stuff.
Terrible… show up and the website says Valet parking well they dont. Have to park two blocks over with all your bags. Room was the size of a closet and the rooftop was as big as a walk in closet. Not worth the money.
Hotel rooms are small, Staff will tell you no to warm up your food. Breakfast was nasty, If you laugh loud they will call your room for that. But the hotel has a roof top bar that is loud enough for anyone in the hotel to hear. Never will stay at another Ascend again.
Went to the hotel for the Mayweather v McGregor fight, and the space was simply too small to accommodate the number of people inside. The bar was far too small to service everyone expeditiously, and the stand where they were collecting tickets was right next to the bar, creating a massive bottleneck when trying to get in and out of the space. The rooftop bar would have been nice, were it not for several people smoking weed up there.
Room was small but good for an overnight stay. Was a little overpriced but I guess its what you pay for in the city. Overall the stay was good and front desk was pleasent.
Great service from the staff, perfect location, a bit noisy and small rooms.
At our arrival, discovering the rooms, three identical is to say 1 bed a floor in each. We were two friends, and a couple. And so we had to ask for room accordingly… Miss. Unable to change without paying, and budget obligated, we slept in the upstairs beds. Room very small and not very intimate for a couple. Very modern indeed. Breakfast well, despite a very cold room and a little bit murky. Finally. Good hotel overall but expensive for what it is. We can find in NYC cheaper hotels and much better!
It was a cool little place to visit. We got the room as a gift for our anniversary. It's cute the bathroom was my fave, big and all the trinkets. Close to times square. Very cool the roof top bar was pretty nice, but the drinks were pretty terrible.
We booked this hotel using Choice Hotel rewards points and we're able to get the room for even less points than we would a budget hotel in a smaller city. We felt we got way more hotel than what we spent. The staff was super friendly and attentive, the room was clean and the location is great. Just a few minutes from the subway and a short walk to lots of different sites. I can't recommend this hotel enough.
The Paul is a beautiful hotel with a great staff. I arrived too early to check in, but they were able to hold my bags and offer laundry service. The room, however is extremely small and only for the bed. Overall, still 5 stars.
Great Room at great price! 15 minute walk from times square. Great location. If you have any problems the come immediately. I've stayed in 4-5 star hotels that have never come so fast. I called twice once for shower slides and again for sheets they were literally knocking at the door in less than two minutes no exaggeration. Was incredible.
Tiny room. Clean. Tiny room. Good breakfast. Tiny room. Comfy bed. Tiny room. Couldn't open bathroom door all the way, as it hit the bed. Tiny room. Friendly staff. Tiny room.
Good hotel! Breakfast included. I had a room on 19th floor and it was noisy though… because of the construction sites around. They said that they assigned this room to avoid the noise that the rooms with better view have… I can't imagine how noisy that can get then! the service is very good and the location is awesome.
PROS: good service, complimentary breakfast, good location, clean, nice view, comfortable beds. CONS: little pricey, rather small rooms, same breakfast every day, city noise even on the 17th floor.

Very nice but girls rooms.
Cleanliness is scarce enough.
Rooms extremely small.
Disorganized!
Rooms were very dusty.
Good view, good location.
Renovated but small rooms, regular breakfast.
My review is only for the bar on the first floor. I stopped in for a drink at the hotel bar, it's nice and quiet. I had a passion fruit mojito and chatted with David the bartender. Their happy hour ends at 8 pm, I will return.
Me and my wife spent three days there during the snowstorm and it was great. There is a restaurant and bar inside the hotel and a really good deli just around the corner, less than five minutes walking. Breakfast was included so, in that's particular situation, it was a plus. Rooms have enough space for a couple, with awesome views, straight to Empire State. There's a lot of amenities and shopping around, subway access is also nearby, three to five blocks away. They also offer airport shuttle in a reasonable price. Only two down points: the body washer is not good, looks like shampoo, and the towels were really low quality, with is not compatible with a four star hotel.
Hotel is in a very good location. Rooms are well equipped but rather small which may be off putting to some. Beds and pillows extremely comfortable, and the rest of the amenities are equally high quality. Roof deck provides a beautiful view of New York and particularly the Empire State Building. Bar staff is fantastic, drinks are priced reasonably compared to the other bars in the area. Breakfast option is really the only downside, the hotel only provides eggs, sausage, pancakes, hash browns, and oatmeal for warm foods. Quantities are small and frequently ran out during the hour-long breakfast time. Overall it was a very pleasant stay.
My husband and I stayed at The Paul for a week. Two weeks ago. We were there for our son's graduation from NYU. We liked the hotel, staff, breakfast, and location. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would recommend it to our friends. Special thanks to Maria and Gladys for their kind and helpful ways. Everyone has a can-do attitude.
New, modern, cozy, good price and good location.
A lovely hotel. Small, yet comfy and cozy. Construction across the street makes it very loud in the morning hours. Earplugs are provided to counteract the noise. Overall, a great hotel in a perfect area of the city. There are many adjacent transportation hubs. Thanks Paul.
Warm and comfy rooms, nice staff. The hotel is relatively new. The street in which the hotel is located is dirty though, but when you enter the hotel, it's all clean. Definitely recommend it.
The Paul is a good address to NY. The rooms are small but comfortable, unfortunately little storage space. Bathroom/toilet very well, also a little storage area. The location is almost perfect. Subway just around the corner. Staff is friendly, price/performance is right. Only the noise of the rear site has been disturbed. But we are in a city. There is also a Restaurant, which we need but never has.
Adorable tiny bunk bed rooms are perfect for friends traveling to NYC together. The staff was kind. Very modern decor and comfortable mattresses. We were concerned with the size of the rooms but upon arrival they were cozy and we had plenty of room and an amazing view of the Empire State Building.
After booking a 50th suprise birthday evening in NYC I came to the following conclusions about the The Paul. — Rude and disrespectful front desk staff. — Uninformative of hotel offerings upon request. — Failure to delivery on a special birthday request for champagne to be place in the room. — My party was locked out of our rooms after previously requesting extended checkout. -Overall subpar cleanliness for what I would expect in a boutique hotel.
We decided to get a room for the night at the Paul to visit friends, we picked it because he neighborhood is a good one and it was affordable. We checked in and were given keys to put our stuff in the room while they were bringing our bags up. I ran up to drop off a few items one of them being Gucci perfume that cost about $100 a bottle that I didn't want to walk around with in my purse for the day. I actually left it under a scarf with some photobooth pics. When we returned later to the room after or bags were brought up everything was there except my perfume and pics and we were told the housekeeping "threw it out"… I'm not one to complain in fact the front desk women were so polite and the manager covered our parking to make up for it but it ruined the whole experience for us.
Such a great experience. Shivanna, Maria and Paul were all so welcoming, helpful and friendly. We were here for 3 days and every time we came in they recognized us, spoke and welcomed us back. It was like returning home. Our room was clean, comfortable and all the space we needed. Plus, we had an incredible view of the Empire State Building! The location is also great. The subway station is literally right behind the hotel, you can walk to Madisson Square Park and the shopping / Resturants there and you are a short cab ride or subway to the theatre district. We were also there wile the construction was going on across the street, but it was not an issue at all. We will come back and recommend this hotel!
The restaurant bar has a long way to go. New management is unfriendly. No blender for frozen drinks, among other things.
We reserved queen beds on the empire side far in advance. When we arrived they put us in 2 doubles overlooking the parking garage! I was pissed off, when I complained they said they didn't have anymore. I don't get that at all. They should have blocked us in a long time before. It was not last minute and that's not what I booked. They didn't even warn us at check in, so we just got up to the wrong room type. Surprise! Rude. That being said, everything else went well. The beds and pillows were super comfy and nice and I slept great. Very clean. Quiet a/c. Would stay again.
A new hotel has come to stay. Very close to the Empire State. Their views will leave you breathless.
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel this year. The entire staff are genuinely welcoming and my room was just perfect. The convenience of walking to the Herald Square shopping district and the Flower district was delightful. I would definitely return yet with friends next year. Happy Holidays, Aaron.
The Paul was very loud. While the hotel was nice, it was very difficult to sleep due to noise. The walls are very thin.
Love the Paul. We stayed before it was even all the way done and a few times after. The only problem with the Paul is the surrounding construction noise. I know there is a ton in the city but it seems non-stop and starts every morning at 7am. Love the Paul, the location, the layout of the king rooms on the upper floors.
Hotel is ok with a nice view to the Empire State Building. A building is being built across the street so I don't know how long that view will be around. The room are really small but they are clean and the bathrooms are nice. Make sure to ask for a room higher up. We got stuck with a second floor room.
My room was still not ready 50 minutes after guaranteed check in time.
Had never been to New York so I researched the heck out of all the hotel options for my 6 day stay with a group of 5 people. The Paul was by far the most affordable option. It had great reviews on all of the booking sites but it's yelp reviews made me SLIGHTLY hesitant. I booked 2 rooms anyway and I am so glad that I did! The rooms are small, yes, but if you're going to New York and planning on spending all your time in your room… well, that's just a waste. The hotel just opened so everything is new. As we were checking out the hotel bar and restaurant were just set to open so I was bummed that I was missing that. I noticed another reviewer complained about the check-in time being 4pm. Well, you shouldve known that going in as it is explained on EVERY site. Our group flew into LaGuardia, landed at 9am. The hotel arranged for a car service which was A LOT cheaper than any other option we could find. It was easy, cheap, and very convenient. When we arrived at the hotel around 10am, the woman at the front desk notified us that they were at capacity so we couldnt check in just yet BUT she held all of our luggage for us and offered to give us a call as soon as the room was ready. We explored the city for a little bit and she called us by noon to let us check in. Carmen, the woman who checked us in was so soooo helpful. We gave us little pointers that helped us throughout the whole trip. She went out of her way to help us and make our stay more enjoyable every way she could.
Stayed here for one night to watch a magic show. The room was small but expected as it was in Manhattan. Very modern looking and had a view of the Empire State building. Breakfast was included, Continental style. Wouldnt mind staying here again.
Great deal in a great location. Everything is brand new, staff is friendly.

What is the point of a reservation, when less than a week before your arrival, they cancel your reservation? Refunds should be given! why on earth would you charge my son for a room we didn't use? Never book a room here! You will be canceled!
