The views are wonderful and the staff is great. Only downside is that the rooms need to have a little bit more maintenance done to them. Sad to have a room with a fireplace that does not work.

Both rooms we stayed on were clean, comfortable and very roomy.

Comfortable bed and warm room, but definitely just a one stop over place.
We didn’t enjoy breakfast, very much had a school dining feel to it with putting your plates away after. There is hotel after hotel on this stretch of beach/road, all looking similar, and for $268 one night I guess I feel it’s overpriced for what it is. Nothing overly unpleasant though.

We spent two very relaxing nights here in a king room with fireplace and a patio with an amazing view of the water… everything was perfect and the staff was.

Our favorite lodging in Cambria. Friendly place. Standard breakfast, but served with uncommon elegance.

Awesome Inn! So welcoming with heated pool, spa and complimentary breakfast and so close to moonstone beach. The staff are amazing and so welcoming! Would recommend and will definitely come back!

Great views, the rooms are lovely with vaulted ceilings, ceiling fan, fireplace. Modern and clean. Staff and Lobby Management are super friendly and helpful.

We had a nice room with ocean view and two queen size beds. The interior of the room was tasteful. The beach is just 5 minutes by foot and breathtakingly beautiful. Perfect for a morning run or evening walk! The water was refreshing. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast but not great for vegans.

Great ocean view room. Nice spacious rooms. No elevator if you have mobility issues. Nice buffer breakfast included. Parking is free and tight with large cars. Dog friendly.

July 2016: We have stayed numerous times on Moonstone Beach for our anniversary, but this was our first time at Pelican. Very much enjoyed our time. We had stayed here when it was known as Cypress Cove before the owner sold. The rooms have been upgraded, and are very nice. We had a partial ocean view which could really only be viewed from a shared balcony. We like to leave the door open to hear the waves crashing at night, but the cars were easier to hear from highway one. We were disappointed they no longer have wine and cheese in the afternoon, which was one of the big reasons we switched from Little Sur. Breakfast was excellent, different dish all 3 days, scrambled eggs and spinach, biscuits and gravy, bacon and eggs. Service was exceptional, especially Domingo at breakfast and Tere as our maid. We will return. Updated; Still a nice place to stay, had a nice ocean view room with a patio with a great view of the sunset. Breakfast and Domingo's salsa still enjoyable. Fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon nice. We're disappointed they no longer have a morning newspaper, and patio screen door has lots of rust and needs replacing.

We showed up with no reservations and a large family. Chris was amazing and very accommodating. We appreciated his hospitality and would stay again. Clean, great breakfast and heated outdoor pool!

We had stayed here before (for our honeymoon), we came back for our anniversary… it's a beautiful place to stay. Very clean and relaxing, with great friendly staff. Wonderful location… you can smell and see the ocean from the balcony. Nice boardwalk right across the street… It's a great place. I definitely recommend it.

Sometimes you throw the dice and you win. I chose the ocean view for $20 more and it's worth it! Front desk supervisor, Chris, is great to recommend a restaurant or activity. He's also very friendly. I'd definitely visit again.

We stayed 2 nights at the Pelican inn and suites. Our room was clean and lovely. Bedding was fantastic the robes a nice touch. The soaps and shampoo and conditioner are excellent. The staff was courteous and professional. The breakfast was AMAZING. We had the best time and if we ever make it back to Cambria we will definitely stay again. There is nothing quite like a patio overlooking the ocean.

Amazing time! Loved it. Cannot wait until we can go back. Rooms are awesome, breakfast is amazing. Everyone is so nice. Beach just across the street. Free in room Wi-Fi, comfortable beds, soft and luxurious towels and robes. The list goes on and on! Highly recommend.

Staff were extremely welcoming. Helped check us in quickly so we could catch the sunset. Beautiful succulent gardens surround the Pelican Inn and Suites! We had a patio facing the ocean and the view was breathtaking. Just cross the street and you are at the ocean. Their breakfast was delicious, included mimosas and it was included!

We had wonderful customer service from June… going out of her way to accommodate our last minute, spontaneous visit. The little extra room amenities are welcoming. The champagne at breakfast is a nice touch, as well. We would absolutely stay here again.

Got upgraded to a beach view room, which was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast included mimosas which was a nice touch. The beach front area was beautiful! The unit however was very old, so some finishings seemed quite worn out, including rust spots on the ice bucket. The bed however was very comfy and did not seem old. There's no heating in terms of a thermostat, which I wish I knew about since I was there in cold February (temperatures dropped to 0 Celsius). There was a fireplace, but it took forever to heat up. Coming out of a hot shower meant a dash to get under the covers so as not to freeze.

We were visiting on a road trip and got upgraded to a beach facing room. The view was spectacular — the kind of room with the windows you see in a movie. The champagne breakfast certainly didn't hurt! The people were also nice and helpful, would come back again.

Very nice. The beds are amazing! There was no fighting for a pillow like other places. Big nice soft bath towels. Gorgeous views of moonstone beach.

Had an upstairs room next to the street, not a whole lot of traffic noise on Friday but it did pick up some on the weekend, still didn't take away from the view or the sounds of the crashing waves. Very quiet neighbors, which was great. Shower & flushes were heard but no problem for us to sleep through. Only stayed two nights but was missed on day one with room service. Great full breakfast if you like scrambled eggs, potatoes, pork sausages, make your own waffles, cereal & other goodies. Coffee, orange juice, cranberry or grape juice but didn't try it, fruits, muffins & bagels & a few other items. Probably will be back there on our next visit.

It's nice but we are upstairs and there is no elevator. It is a stones throw from the ocean (literally across the street) but it's an old place. Your do get a fireplace and it's clean but not ideal for 50+ folks that can't climb stairs. The lower to the ground you get the more expensive. However, you get a keurig, refrigerator, microwave and complimentary robes to wear with the option to buy of course and the breakfast is pretty good. And the bed is actually comfortable! I was worth the $125 we paid.

The staff are extremely accommodating and so kind. The rooms are cute, comfortable, and clean. The views are beautiful, and the complimentary breakfast is very nice (they even serve mimosas). I honestly don't have a single complaint; I would definitely recommend staying at the Pelican Inn in Cambria.

We evacuated to this hotel when the Thomas Fire erupted. June, the GM, is one of the sweetest people I've had the pleasure of speaking to and dealing with! Her entire staff are uniquely personable people who welcomed many of us 'travelers" with a beautiful room (kind beds that are perfect to sleep on), gas Fireplace, Keruig coffee, and a Full breakfast with complimentary mimosas. I'd rate the Pelican, it's sister hotels and staff, 10 gold stars I possible! Did I mention Moonstone beach is right across the road!

I stayed at this end for 14 days beginning December 7, escaping the fires I in the Santa Barbara area. Everything about the place was A+. This was a very busy time for the hotel and everyone handled it with grace and compassion. Especially outstanding was Domingo, who managed the entire kitchen operation. Paulina, at the front desk handled our multiple moves with total ease. Tomasa provided careful and thorough housekeeping service and Chris, also at the front desk, was friendly and never showed exhaustion with all of our questions. June is the manager in charge, and she runs a top notch operation.

Beautiful view of the Ocean, Rooms very clean and free breakfast. Truly an enjoyable family time after touring Hertz Castle. Can't wait to come back.

Very nice place to be. Fabulous location on the beach. Room is very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Problem with room keys being very sensitive to being demagnetized easily upon being near a phone or electronic car keys. Have had to have them reset 4 times In two days, even when trying to keep them safe. Love the fall decorations in the gardens.

We loved our brief stay! We lucked into a 2 bedroom suite with fold-out sofa. Despite being listed as only a partial ocean view we had a patio with a beautiful view! The beds were comfy, the linens were soft, the breakfast was fantastic, the pool was a treat, the staff was outstanding, and the access to the beach was amazing. I highly recommend the Pelican Inn to anyone looking for a oceanside hotel. I hope to go back soon! ❤️

This place was a great find. We only stayed one night on the way down the coast but it was one of my favourite places that we stopped at. Had a lovely room with a sea view. Incredibly friendly check in and we were provided with maps and some local restaurant recommendations. They even had waffle makers in the breakfast room. We'll definitely go back at some point.

Great Sunsets; Great room; good breakfast; enjoyed stay here for Splitting Trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles and san Diego.

The property is nicely maintained and the staff more than willing to help you. It's close to many locations making it a convenient jump off point for daily excursions. Our second time here in 5 years. We'll be back again!

Awesome sunset right outside. We had 2 rooms here, a king and a quote, both were nice and quiet. The breakfast is excellent.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The view was amazing and all the details in the room were well thought of. The Jacuzzi tub was nice to relax in. The breakfast of real eggs, real silverware and linens on the table was a nice way to wake up in the morning. And a surprise of Mimosas was very nice. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this hotel.

Not what we expected. Run down carpet and furniture out of a 70's sitcom. Found food in the cushions. The promise was a suite with a partial view of the ocean, the reality was a glimps if you were willing to lean over the balcony half your body length. Booked this for two nights on a nonrefundable price and payed $9. Shy of $500.00. The staff were very nice but overall this was not the stay I was led to believe I was paying for.

It is right on the beach. We got a really room with wonderful service. I would highly recommend staying there.

I really appreciate the clean rooms. Towels were soft, sheets and bedding were comfortable. It was a great place for a weekend get away. The complimentary breakfast was enjoyable. Nothing special, it just was not overly greasy or salty. Hotel employees were friendly and informative.

Stopped over here during our trip from la to san fran. Checked in and wasn't entirely happy with our room at first as we had booked a king with balcony with side view and was given more of a porch balcony on the ground floor. As what we had booked wasnt available we were then upgraded free of charge to a king suite sea view which was amazing! Both rooms were very modern and clean fresh with molton brown bathroom products. The hotel at the time of booking said it included cheese and wine reception we were then emailed 2 day before checking in that this has now been discontinued. After emailing back the manager, we were given the cheese and wine as promised in our room vs the hotel lobby area. Which was fine with us after a late check in and long drive. The staff are very friendly the location is right on the beach u can't get any closer really. The breakfast was filling, toast, waffles scarmbled eggs, cereal, fruit, potatoes with this lush salsa provided buffet style in a smallish kitchen and seating area near the lobby. In general the hotel rooms are quite large, perfect for the given rate. It says 3* hotel but I would say more like a 4*. Would definitely come back!

Perfect get away! The office personal are very accommodating very warm and you feel you've known them forever! The rooms are so well kept and clean! Breakfast is from 7 to 10:00 am delicious with a first class chef" and a chance to meet other guests. Wine and cheese offered from 5 to 7:00pm also fantastic. We have been coming here for years and consider this "our paradise" We will be back… That's for sure!

The location to the beach was amazing the room is very clean very roomy and the beds blankets and pillows were all very comfortable. We stayed here because we drove up to the Hearst Castle and this was only about 10 minutes away it's a great hotel would recommend it to everyone stay here the next time you're in town. They also have a happy hour from 5 to 7 for guests that are staying at the hotel and also serve breakfast in the morning from 7 to 10 a. M. Which is really really good.

I have been visiting this property for many years. Although it is still my favorite location, it has changed over the years with management changes. I think I've experienced them all, some incredibly kind and helpful, others not so much.
The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The maid leaves a chocolate candy on your pillow for a added treat. I enjoy the hot breakfast with lots of choices, including eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, fried potatoes, fruit and much more. Wine hour with cheese and last but not least dessert hour with fresh cookies, lemon bars, brownies and more.
I recommend this gorgeous place to anyone. For the very best experience, get a ocean view. It's worth it.

Wine tasting and appetizers in the evening was wonderful. We enjoyed chatting with other guests and tasting local wine. The breakfast was far beyond our expectations. Egg scramble with veggies and cheese, sausage, bagels, waffles, fresh fruit and more. The rooms were well appointed with everything you need to get by from coffee pot to ironing board. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were quality, cozy and plentiful. The staff went out of their way to make your stay a pleasure. As a whole, it was a 5 star experience for a 3 star price.

Perfect place to stay, around halfway along the PCH from LA to San Francisco. Lovely setting. Rooms were very comfortable (and huge). The complementary wine in the common area is a nice touch, especially since there's not very much else around.

Great room, great bed, beautiful view (we only have a partial view and it's beautiful! ). They have free wine reception daily (nice way to end the day) with a nice selection of Pelican Inn house wine with appetizers. They also offer free breakfast. I hope to be able to revisit.

Stayed in room 314 for one night. This was probably the dirtiest room I have ever stayed in. The carpet was stained, door lock to the patio broken, marks all over the wall. This was an oceanfront room, however the windows were so dirty that we had a hard time recognizing the ocean. I would not recommend staying here (see review from Jan Jansil below for the same room, same issues, more than a year ago). Also, parking is chaotic (no clear signs). Staff is nice. I got a $50 refund, but $225 for this "room" is still too pricey. Better try different hotels, there are many in the area.

We tried this place because our usual hotel at Cambria, the lovely Fogcatcher Inn has changed management (read — sold to a big hotel chain, which we prefer to avoid). Compared to the Fogcatcher, we were disappointed. The beach is of course the same, but the place is just less "magical". The rooms are similar (firewall and all) but there's something missing in the atmosphere I can't really put my finger on. The buffet is definitely worse. Not bad, but just your standard buffet. Internet connection: Quite good. Stable at all times, we were able to use netflix without any issues. Next time we visit Cambria we'll probably give a chance to another place, but it doesn't mean we think this one is bad.

Great rooms, we were uograded to the king suite with an ocean view. Staff were very friendly. We arrived and were greeted with complimentary wine and cheese. Highly recommend.

Stayed here on Christmas eve 2013. It was great — the room was large, very clean, up-to-date, easy to park, and adjacent to the excellent beach walk. We were pleasantly surprised by the breakfast as well. It was in a clean spacious room with a lot of fresh offerings — far better than one expects for the price we paid. The staff was friendly and helpful too. I would absolutely go back and recommend it highle.

My husband and I stayed in room 314. It sits on an end, it's spacious and quiet has a nice king sized bed. But the room was not clean! The carpet was dirty or stained. The walls were dirty, the ceiling even had marks on it. The baseboards throughout the entire room need to be painted or replaced. The furniture (a large dresser) is worn and mismatched. The room has a patio with a nice ocean view. However the windows on the doors leading out to the patio were very dirty. I took a towel and cleaned a portion of them myself. The continental breakfast was fine and had lots of choices. The staff is friendly and helpful. I wouldn't stay there again though unless the rooms were discounted. Definitely not worth $275 a night.
