Haveli Hotel - Downtown Market San Francisco Hotel

If you still have other choices, I forbid you to stay here. The place is horrible. It is really in the sketchy area. Lots of homeless and assumed-to-be drug dealers. Bed sheet is super dirty like millions of bed bugs dwelling inside. You have to keep windows open since there is no aircon. It is noisy and loud. Super loud. It's like sleeping next to a pub. There was somebody playing super loud music outside. In one morning, there were people running and screaming in the hallway. Think again and again. I was left with no choice since all hotels around the town were fully booked.

In true “you get what you pay for” fashion, Haveli Hotel is decent. With the average price range, for a private room in downtown SF, it was almost cheap, because it really is a nice place to sleep. But it has that hostel feel, small and creaky, not that luxurious holiday stay. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise, because as I said, you know that you get what you pay for. My friend and I are young and backpacking, and when we looked for places to stay we picked one of the cheapest. The staff was very friendly and quick to assist when needed. The room was clean and everything was as listed. I understand where the people complaining over feeling unsafe on the streets outside are coming from, but SF’s population of homeless is city wide, and nothing the hotel itself can do anything about. I didn’t feel unsafe, but as with everything in life, use common sense. All in all, I’d return to Haveli, should I return to SF. It’s not the Hilton, but it’s a clean bed in a dry room and that is all I need.

The room itself was fine, didn't feel too dirty but also not especially clean. The reasons for the 2 star rating are: 1. The location is really sketchy, especially at night. 2. The windows in the room I was in let in all the noise from outside as if they were open, which was consistent shouting/screaming and vehicles. 3. The curtains were so thin that all the light poured in 4. The bathrooms were dirty 5. Reception guy was pretty condescending, gave me the wrong room key at first and was rudely telling me I wasn't using it correctly before realising his mistake. I realise it's a dodgy area so he probably deals with a lot of issues but I'd just arrived new to the area so wasn't very welcoming Overall you get what you pay for, was my worst experience of a hotel so far, wouldn't recommend. Was very happy to check out after 1 night!
