Orange Village Hostel Hostel

This hustle wasn't too bad. My sleeping quarters were fine and the roommates were nice. My only issue is that my last night I realizye there was no soap. This means that if those girls were not clean girls, they just never washed their hands after using the bathroom. That's so disgusting! So you're better off getting a room without a bathroom so you don't have to deal with that nonsense! The luggage area is also not secure. When I went to store my luggage after work, I noticed the luggage storage room was open and the attendant that was working in the office was facing the other direction with his headphones on making copies. His back was completely turned to the luggage storage area which had the door wide open. Besides those two issues they had a walker for you to store your things but you have to bring a tiny luck because a large lock will not fit on the lock hole. The bed wasn't that comfortable so I would bring a Topper or just use the blanket on top of the mattress. They also cut the plastic on which was very noisy. It was surprisingly clean except for the fact that there is no soap like I mentioned earlier.

First time ever at a hostel and I have to say it was an amazing experience. The place is very clean and organized. The staff is super friendly and helpful, kudos! Located in perfect location in downtown SF. Excellent place to meet young travelers. Only minor issue: shower pressure in upper floors is bit weak.

When you're getting Charged hefty taxes you were not told about in your initial booking total it can be pretty frustrating. With that being said the hostel is fine otherwise.

I was pleasantly surprised. Very neat. Totally renovated. Good location. Very friendly staff.

The location was great in proximity to the Muni, Union Square, etc and price reasonable. The rooms are a bit worn though (beds very creaky, window rattles at night). From a cleanliness perspective though it was fine. The breakfast was simple, common areas lightly decorated and not over the top. I was worried before my stay to walk around at night as a single female but it wasn't too bad coming back around 10pm.

For the price I payed I was expecting just the basics. I was extremely surprised at what I actually got. The staff are excellent, the rooms are far better than what I expected and the dining and lounge area are great for meeting new people. If you are looking to travel on a budget I highly recommend the Orange Village Hostel.

Orange village is exactly what it looks likea a budget hostel in the middle of San Fran. Relatively easy to get too, with a decent free breakfast and a really good staff is the positives. The negatives are the construction and the fact that the bathrooms could really use some help, and you are not given towels. Other, I'd stay here again for a single night or maybe two but more than that is a stretch.

It has the right and the necessary to spend a few days, the reception was very messy, and it gave the price of that continued in consteuccion still. Breakfast is very good quality and variety.

Kitchen was really clean. Dorm room was spacious enough for me to open my luggage compared to other SF hostel I stayed. I was able to book it at a cheap price too, cheapest I had so far. Walking distance to Powell BART while pulling/pushing 2 spinner luggage. At the time, they had construction work. Friendly Filipino housekeeping staff. Elevator was down and my room was at the third floor.

It’s my second time staying here and still just as impressed as the first. Location is great, it’s clean, so is the kitchen. The rooms are actually pretty spacious to SF/hostel standards, in my opinion. Staff is friendly. Everything is great. Only downside is the one elevator that was slow first time around and is under renovation second time around. Leg day every day over here ;)

The rooms and the bed were fine. The bathroom small but very clean. The breakfast was the best. Location: close to the center but in the nights may seem a bit dangerous.

Location is great. Right next to all the stores and good eats. They were renovating so the elevator was out of order but the rooms weren't effected. Great experience and a good price!

Located in the heart of downtown. Sweet and simple establishment at an affordable price. Perfect stop for solo backpackers or budget travelers.

Rooms without air conditioner but pretty clean and well organized. Our window faced a bunch of pigeons and I was a little worried they'd get in because I had to leave the window open because it was so warm inside. The hostel was under maintenance.

It went through everything, my clothes, personal items and a poster (through a card board poster tube) that once I got home was to wet to actually get out and had to be chucked. I alerted staff but they didn’t really seem to be bothered.

Friendly reception and very good cleaning.

Relatively clean and comfortable. Walkable distance from market Street. My only real complaint is that they lock the kitchen at 11p, which in and of itself, doesn't bother me, but this also means you can't even get a cold drink at night. I didn't think this would bother me, but it turned out to be a bigger problem than I thought it would after coming back from a late meeting, and not being able to access any of the groceries I bought.

People were nice. The room was decent. My Biggest turn off was that the water pressure was very poor. The showers were a trickle at best. I'd consider this place again for a short stay, but without a decent shower I'd have to go somewhere else for longer trips.

The Breakfast was quite ok. The Room too. Not ok was a Window you couldn't quite close. Also, a Bed was inserted on the last Day of the Holiday.

Staff were awesome, hands down the most friendly customer service. The hostel was clean but basic. Breakfast was pretty sub par so we skipped it after the first morning.

This is O-FFICIALLY my favorite hostel in SF! Everyone was nice, even the other guests, my roomies were amazing, and I could not get over how comfy the beds were! Having to wear glasses, I find it absolutely sweet that the bunk beds have cute little shelves on the walls that held my glasses comfortably! The breakfast was good, haven't had captain crunch cereal in ages, and I was not shocked to hear that the place may be booked solid for the next three days! Oh I love this hostel!

Decent hostel with friendly staff, however the rooms could do with some ventilation. The room we were in had mattresses that were wrapped in plastic so it felt like you were sleeping on a bin bag and got very sweaty. Windows are single glazed so you can hear everything on the busy street below and cannot be opened meaning the rooms get very stuffy.

One of the best, more affordable hostels in the entire Bay Area! Not only is the one of the nicest people I ever met, they really genuinly cared about the customer. To have been in this hostel was such a unique experience, I'm so lucky I met them and would stay with them again in a heart beat!

A wonderful place to stay, especially if you're looking for good service and inexpensive rates. Locations is great, just a block from Union Square. However, not completely sound proof.

Staff was beyond helpful and friendly! Interesting toilet/sink combination but the sink doesn't work unless you flush the toilet. Location is great and convenient for transportation, although food is difficult to find past midnight, even Fridays. Note: Bring a small lock for the lockers, my lock was too thick although convenience store next door sold locks for $5.

Probably the best hostel in the hotel and theater district, and that's saying something since there are quite a few hostels in the immediate area. The value and cleanliness of the place was really good, as was the breakfast. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for the best overall hostel experience.

I was a bit worried about staying here after reading some reviews, but honestly it was pretty great for the price. Everything was clean and comfortable, and I loved having a bathroom in my room. The beds were a bit noisy, but it wasn't the end of the world. Street noise was nonexistent. I have no idea what others are speaking of. To be fair, I live in NYC, but even so I thought the street was near silent during the night. My only main complaint was my bed didn't have outlets next to it while the other three did. The closest one was behind the lockers, which aren't exactly the lightest things to move. Also, it should be made clear that the lockers need the tiny luggage lock sized locks and nothing bigger. I brought a couple lock sizes (my luggage lock and one I used on my high school locker) just to be sure and it ended up working out.

I've only been here a day but I really like this Hostel, compared to ones I've stayed in before this is by far the best its staff are very friendly and helpful and the cleanliness of the Hostel is impeccable.

Not cleaned properly, the room, the breakfast is just fast food.

So much noise from the outside. It's like there is no window. We can hear everything. Not resting at all. The staff is just sorry about that. Still hope for a good solution…

Very good, an old-style but cozy, the living room/space in common is good, the bathrooms if they are guys.

I went to SF for 2 weeks I spent 9 days another hostel room was ok but the main thing can't sleep in night just because people are in street screaming and talking all night and staff on front desk also very rude. I left that place and find orange village hostel very nice and clean, no noise out side such peacefull area to close 5 star hotel, kitchen great with free breakfast, huge TV screen and Sunday movie night with free popcorn etc… staffs are very nice!

My sister and I had been staying at a more expensive hotel round the corner but needed another night in the city. We were surprised, because for what we paid for our double room with private bathroom, it was of the same standard as the other place but was about 1/3 of the price. I liked this place because it had friendly, helpful staff and the rooms were clean. It was pretty simple but for what we paid, we were happy.

Location and staff is pretty bad. During the day, the Tenderloin has the ability to transform, and the characters who dot the streets seem more endearing than sick and dangerous. I stayed there 5 days (due to bad weather on the East Coast). On the last day I was verbally attacked by a nasty staff member who demanded my room number and asked me to leave when I told her I checked out. My flight to NYC was cancelled due to weather, so I went to the lounge area to work on my laptop. I lost track of time doing complex system designs and didn't bother checking in again since that process is such a hassle and inflexible. Even trying to get extended was a chore as you have to check out and wait until check in time to get rates from Booking dot com. If the staff member had asked respectfully, I would have just paid to use the lounge or whatever price they wanted for a room again. Instead I get some attack dog with zero customer service skills acting like I was some problem. Only one staff member is competent.

Stayed almost 8months long term stay. Convenient location, good breakfast, kind staffs, full of information about sf! Have a fun at OVH.

The area is one of the most crime-ridden in San Francisco, the view from the Windows is terrible, on the street the homeless people everywhere, standing in the air. Horrible smell In the hotel do not change a bed that someone's hair was everywhere.

Really nice place to relax… Very nice breakfast and cute rooms and nice location. Plus, the staff is so helpful and professional!

Nice cozy hostel in the center near Union square.

One of the best hostels I've stayed in, especially in the US. GREAT deal for downtown SF. My boyfriend and I had a private room which came with our own private bath (awesome and rare for hostels) and a TV with movie channels (extremely rare). We would definitely stay here again.

I stayed in a 4 bed dorm room with 3 friends, we could not sleep at all, our room looked on the street which was quite noisy all night, and the mattresses were essentially broken with un-even springs inside them making it difficult to find a comfortable enough position to get some rest. The staff was unhelpful when we mentioned this to them.

Words cannot explain the waves of disappointment that washed over my body when I walked into my room. No sheets for the mattress, no pillowcase for the plastic pillow, not even hand soap for the bathroom. I am by no means a high matinence chick. But the place is just gross and funky. I'm down for the strange and unusual but this spot is just nasty and the odor matches its appearance. I'd like to say you get what you pay for, but there are SO many cool hostels within walking distance that are the same price. I just messed up and booked last minute. I guess I now know why they're the only place in town that still has rooms open. Thumbs way down. I guess places like this are why hostels have a bad rap. If you're down for a cool hostel in the neighborhood that still has character I recommend the Encore Express just a few blocks away.

I can see them cleaning everyday at noon but do not expect too much. Relatively clean I'd say. Staffs are very friendly and they would help you a lot. Be aware that you are in downtown, if you are not friendly with noise, buy some earplugs.

This was the only place where I experienced a bed bug they have orange juice and waffles in the morning. A t. V room and free Wi-Fi they have flirty Mexican janitors.

City view private room with two beds attached to en suite bath, plus free Wi-Fi and breakfast. Very clean and comfy. Rugged old school elevator and nice big stairs.

The beds are creaky and uncomfortable and the bathroom was weird — the sink was on top of toilet and worked only when you flushed the toilet. Wtf? The staff was nice. My main problem with this place is the fact that it is located right next to the Tenderloin district which is incredibly unsafe. I didn't know this until AFTER my car which I park on a street near the hostel was broken into and I had everything valuable stolen out of it. If you don't have a car and you don't mind being in a sketchy neighborhood I guess the place isn't terrible. It was way to expensive for a bed in a dorm room also. The temperature of the room was very hot too. I woke several times in a sweat! The noise coming into the room from outside is ridiculous, I didn't sleep at all because of how loud it was. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Worst ever. Window's broken and floors too dirty. Even tick in the bed. Too noisy and spicy and strong smells come inside room.

3 considerations for 4 stars. 1) The hostel is clean, tidy, and comfortable. 2) The staff is wonderful and professional. 3) I just wish the social lounge wasn't undergoing renovations and that the kitchen had more of a social seating arrangement, such as 1 oblong, longer table to replace 2 smaller, square ones.

Its too expensive. Othe hostels in the area are way cheap. Plus they allow you have a small bit of food in your room if you want. Not impressed.

Excellent Hostel. Comfortable, clean and close to everything.

The hostel is located in the city center close to the Union Square. The staff was friendly. Anyway, it didn't help me to keep any good memories about this hostel. The hostel is very shabby and not comfortable at all. The walls are dirty both in the lobby and in the room. The window in the room was very old and provided no protection from the street noise. The heater controller was broken so it was hot in the room. They do not have any safes for keeping your ID, wallet and other important stuff safe. They lockers but they do no provide any locks for them. I would state the fact that I did not feel comfortable there. And I think the price and the quality do no match. In Germany, I would find a much more comfortable hostel for the same price.

Never stayed in a hostel, however this one I deemed pretty good. A comfortable bed, significant storage room, a fridge (smelled like rather strong marijuana) and a microwave, a sink and a bathroom down the hall. There was also a breakfast (free), and a staff that'll answer your questions and buzz you in. And it was smack dab in the city.

This hostel is very cold. I booked domitory for 4 person. Hostel room is too drafty. Outside noise is not blocked. I protested to counter administrator, but he repeated the word heater that works, He is very unkind and rude. The wind comes into the room so badly. You do not have the difference to sleep outside. "There is no need to Alcatraz tour in San Francisco If you book Orange village hostel " You will be able to experience the equivalent of a prison tour dirty very cold, in a poor environment. Counter boy said, there is a problem to us about " cold room ". But other people said, " Our room is warm. Maybe your room seems not cut off drafy" So, We requested to counter and changed the same type room another floor. Changed room is much better warm and much less windy. We were able to have experienced three days of hell. The day is the last remaining, it was possible to much less cold. Please do not reserve absolutely the hostel. I want to advise you to book a hostel near other better yet. It is true that I contemplated hostel's bad facillity. But At least, nothing is to be the environment, such as a person can spend basically. Cold, Dirty, Unkindness It is terrible hostel. Please don't book.

It is not bad for the price they have, since is in the heart of San Francisco, right next to the Hilton. It is not recommended to move on a street area that already is home to all the homeless of San Francisco. By the other good treatment of workers and lots of freedom in the hostel.

It has an oriental, exotic doing very at the same time welcoming atmosphere. No doubt the best hostel is the TV room, with multiple channels and UFC at all hours. The waffles are a plus.

The beds are very good but the place is not very welcoming. Public spaces has to be nice and the service is more or less pleasant.
