Reviews of The Marker San Francisco 4*
Beds were very comfortable.
Beautiful hotel and great customer service!
Recommend nice hotel to spend the day at. Suite was great.
During this corona pandemic we have no choice but to cancel our honeymoon to our dismay and the hotel is insistent that it is fully non-refundable. On any other occasions I can understand but given that this is a crisis the world is facing, such inflexibility is frowned upon and I would strongly urge all to think twice before booking this hotel.
It's a cute place, but maybe take pictures of the snacks and refrigerator when you leave (just in case). After we checked out, we got a $298 charge for 3 bottles of wine, 4 bottles of water, gin, scotch, vodka, all the candy, toothpaste, all the snacks, etc. That they said we consumed. I emailed billing and they reversed the charges which was very honest. So — it is a cute place with honest management.
We had an amazing time here. The staff was exceptional especially Daimler very nice and friendly and the room was clean and beautiful, Thank you for a great first experience in San Francisco! Thank you once again Daimler at the front desk and Sheila for the suggestions. Happy hour they serve a complimentary wine

What a beautiful spot! Especially James, he pours you wine and watches out for you. Everyone is extremely kind! We will be back again 5 out of 5 stars! On another note they are eco friendly and gave me an amazing water bottle and even credit you when you don’t need housekeeping.
What a sweet spot! This is where the young and hip are… and they let me follow along!
Very nice and well designed interior renovation compliments perfectly the historic building. Great access to the better spots in town via a short walk or uber.
Nice hotel! However I suggest some usb contacts in the room so foreign guests can recharge mobile phones, cameras, ipods, ipads etc
Otherwise ok! very comfy bed.
Wonderful staff! Quiet and great location.
Nice rooms. Wine social,
beautiful lobby, friendly staff. Only downers are bar closes at 11pm and valet service was very slow.
Gorgeous boutique hotel. Great location. Well kept up. Helpful friendly staff. Only thing that could be improved is the quality of the wine at the Welcome reception, which was something you might put on a snowcone. We loved the Hotel and would return.
Excellent hotel, nice rooms, great price and great location. I would go there another 1000 times if I could.
Beautiful rooms fantastic hotel friendly staff!
Great hotel to stay at! Location is prime. Hotel is amazingly beautiful! Totally recommend!
What a beautiful hotel and great location!
Beautiful rooms. Loved the atmosphere.
Beautiful building, detail is amazing. Love the lounge areas with fireplaces. Walking distance to food! Check in was quick and easy. Friendly staff. Only thing that could sue some work is dusting esp top of crowne modeling and make sure minifridge has been cleaned out of old food items. Also, each day when the house keeper cleans they turn off our air so when we come back in the evening we walk into a hot room. Huge upset for me! But we are enjoying our stay and love sitting down by the fireplace with a glass of wine each evening looking out the window.
Great location, very friendly staff and awesome room.
No coffee in the room After finding them on Travelocity while checking out they they raised the price by 100.00 dollars.
We stayed at this hotel for one night. It was the first time going to San Francisco. When we arrived it was later at night and I told the receptionist that we had just drove there for almost 7 hours and that we were coming from Chicago. She was so nice, she said: “then let me do something special for you guys” and upgraded our double room to an Executive Suite Room. It was beautiful. Probably the nicest hotel I have ever been to. First you walk in and the chandeliers are breathtaking. The stairs are made of marble and is a 1920’s hotel in the middle of the city. They don’t have a pool but just the hotel’s restaurant and service makes up for it. The room had a little view to the street but it was awesome. We were 3 people and perfectly accommodate. The bed in the main room was huge and very comfortable. I’ll let the pictures do some justice. This will be a place to go back. Simply beautiful. Also when leaving, I thanked the manager and she was very kind, gave me her card and told me to call her whenever we wanted to be back to give us a special rate. Best hotel experience ever. FYI, there’s no parking but they do offer Valet and also have several parking places just around the block.
Have been using this hotel multiple times a month for the past year. Rooms are cozy and well appointed. Location is central to many parts of the city. Staff and day manager are available and ready to assist. They have particularly helpful door/luggage people.
A convenient location. Overall not a bad hotel but it was damp in the room. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body balm in large bottles and very good quality. On the ground floor you can pour water with lemon, in the rooms only paid water.
Great location, wonderful restaurants all around! Be prepared for hidden fees, there is a $25 amenity charged that a third-party booking agency won’t tell you about. Nonetheless, we made the most of it and got a free glass of wine. They also offered bike rentals but only had one available bike. The hotel is a bit dated, but clean rooms and very helpful and friendly service! We enjoyed our stay.
The Marker is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location! Walking distance to Union Square and tons of great bars, and my room was a nice comfortable haven at the end of the day. My room key kept getting demagnetized, and the front desk was so helpful. Unfortunately, when we tried to go the restaurant for dinner, their computers were down and they weren't taking orders. But the menu looked great!
This hotel provided everything I needed for my 2-day San Francisco trip. It was small, cozy, and modern. Walking in, the lobby was very cozy-looking with several couches and books. Concierge greeted us as soon as we walked in and politely helped us with my reservation. Size wasn't a problem for me since I would be out and about. The double queen bedroom had a beautiful limited view with many amenities included.
The hotel is in a great location. The rooms are comfortable, but don't expect a great view, unless you like urban decay and alleyways. The hallways and decor is of the building is nice. This hotel is clean and quiet. The bed I stayed in does need replacing and the pillows are soft, too soft if you are use to a medium to firm type. The spa was "under repair" which was a bummer and would have been good to know before I booked it. But I guess that was their plan. Overall, it was okay, but there are better out there for the same price. Expect all of the fees San Francisco hotels charge, parking, room fees, and taxes. Do factor that into your costs to stay.
It's a nice boutique hotel, and that's it — it's nice. Not great. Ok price for location. Room is clean. Modern decor makes it look beautiful and boutique style. That being said, sink had hot water, but shower did not. Shower water was 'cool', not even room temperature! Carpet is old and a dark pattern, but even over that you can tell the old stains. Staff is very friendly and nice! Lobby area, where morning coffee and tea is served is nice to sit at.
Beautiful hotel. Although I only visited the conference rooms it is still very nice. Clean bathrooms down in that area. Also I want to mention tourist beware though… the hotel is in the worst part of SF. Be safe!
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was quiet and clean, and the bed was comfy. Absolutely great stay!
I really loved this boutique hotel super central in SF with a nice and very functional gym and a decent happy hour 5-6pm and coffee-tea served in the mornings. The rooms were actually very spacious compared to other boutique hotels and refreshing decor. The service is fantastic. The only negative is that they won't allow you to do a late check out on a Sunday. Not great…
The Marker hotel has a grand lobby. I and coworkers met with customers for a late evening dinner in the hotel's bar/restaurant. I can't review everyone's orders. I enjoyed a would be appetizer, fried boneless chicken pieces with bacon bits covering and surrounding; I can't recall the house name for the dish, but the pieces were tender and juicy. The price for this item was about $14. I personally had water — they forgot to bring the hot tea I ordered (I wasn't so bothered, but that lost one star in my review…). Another customer ordered a small pizza to share (slim toppings, not meant to be a family filler pizza, more the "lighter" type instead). The bar in the back of the restaurant appeared well stocked, and well organized. I can't comment on the drinks, as I didn't order one.
Happy hour, and entertainment for children.
Lovely hotel and really friendly. Would stay again. However like America as a whole, we are British and don’t do the gratuity things. Again, breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks staff in the food location expect gratuity — what they don’t realise is that it’s our hard earned holiday cash costing us more than expected for the gratuity and it’s not in budget. It shouldn’t be expected.
Nice hotel and good service. Really pretty lobby. Only issue is it's on the edge of the Tenderloin. Wouldn't recommend going south directly out of the hotel without going east 2 or 3 blocks.
Unfortunately, this property has undergone decline since it's days as the Hotel Monaco. The staff is good and there are some great architectural features in the main lobby. However, I couldn't get hot water after 11 p. M. For a shower both nights of my stay (a co-worker had the same experience, so this seems to be a hotel-wide issue). A main sitting room seems to be in a state of stalled renovation, with holes in walls and spartan furnishings. The sauna/whirlpool connected to the gym was closed (assuming permanently), and the bistro is a far cry from what used to be the Grand Cafe. Small details, like soap/shampoo/lotion in rooms that are communal 8 oz. Bottles used by the guests who stayed before you seems sketchy. Plenty of other boutique hotels in the area worth considering until The Marker improves the infrastructure.
Very disappointing experience. The hotel is pretty tatty and the hot water in our room wasn’t working so we had to wait until the hotel engineer came to fix it meaning that we didn’t have the relaxing time getting ready to go out that we wanted. To make matters worse, I went to the hotel bar to get a drink to take back to my room for my wife. Their payment system was not working and when I said I’d be back in a few minutes with then cash after I’d taken the drink up to my wife in our room they said I couldn’t leave the bar with the drink, despite the fact that they had my room number and had seen my key card. A very shabby little place with bad customer service, there’s way better in San Francisco so don’t bother darkening their doors.
This began as a business trip and went on to what was supposed to be a trip of pleasure. My husband's company foolishly chose this hotel for us to get some well needed rest for us. Start with the positive, the rooms are very clean which is a very welcome feature, but unfortunately that is where it ends. We parked around the corner 1/2 block away and to get to the hotel we walked that 1/2 block through a pool of prostitutes and their pimps and tripped over the homeless. I am not sure about you, but that is not my idea of a pleasant experience. On to the hotel, as we walked in, not one member of their staff (we walked by at least 3) even acknowledged us or even said hello as we walked past the front desk. There is nothing special about the rooms, they are incredibly small, they do not have room service, they charge $6 for the bottle of water they leave on the desk in the room… As we came and went, it was three days of no acknowledgement as you walk by the staff (and the front desk) when on the 3rd evening the man at the desk by the door kindly offered to bring us up 2 glasses of wine… FROM AN OPEN BOTTLE HE SAID WAS LEFT AND HE WAS WILLING TO BRING US 2 GLASSES OUT OF THE USED BOTTLE OF WINE THAT WAS LEFT BY … NOT SURE WHO… this was very strange and disturbing as who is asked by a hotel if they want wine from a random open bottle? So now, our reservation was supposed to be until Sunday.

This Hotel was a former Kimpton group property. The interior has not changed since I lasted visited a few years ago. I found it interesting that the hotel had no front desk service and depended on the door man for it's needs. The hotel does offer early morning coffee and tea but no Continental breakfast. This hotel has a beautiful lobby.
We had an amazing time here. The staff was exceptional, the room was beautiful, and the wine hour rocked. Thank you for a great first experience in San Francisco! Thank you Eddie at the front desk and Jackson for the suggestions.
Good location Warm and friendly atmosphere. Breathtaking Décor in the lobby and colorful in the rooms. The staff are very courteous. There is an overload of just over $20 per night so even paying in advance fully we had a bill of a hundred dollars to pay on leaving. We had to change rooms as there was no hot water in the first… The maids do a minimal job (we found the gloves of a previous customer under a bed)
Excellent service, the hotel very clean, the staff first, always attentive and committed, congratulations.
This restaurant and bar rock! It's a new rooftop San Francisco spot great to come for food or juts drinks. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Spots go fast and usually they hit capacity by 7:30 pm if not earlier. Try the churros. They are delicious and you'll want to order a second round.
Excellent experience and good service!
It was a unique experience: 3 I spent the best.
Beautiful but way too busy and crowded for me If you want to be in downtown San Francisco and have a older hotel feel, this is an incredible hotel. That said, it felt crowded and loud — not the respite from the craziness outside that I was hoping for. I brought a travel group here and they loved the location. The staff was good and we had a relatively good experience.
This is a pretty fancy looking hotel. The rooms themselves are pretty small and cozy. The price was very reasonable for San Francisco though. The amenities are okay. No free breakfast is always disappointing. The hotel had free Wi-Fi though, which is great. The location was good. But if you stray even a little bit you will end up in the notorious Tenderloin area. So, that's something to be careful about. The staff were very friendly. Parking around the place is super expensive so that's a con. We unfortunately had a false fire alarm in the middle of night at 2am. That wasn't pleasant. Everything else was okay though.
I was a bit disappointed coming to this hotel, not sure if it's a San Francisco thing but the room was tiny, had next to no appliances, felt old and worn down. Out of the 4 showers I had 2 were cold with the others only being warm. The bar in the hotel was nice and the staff for the hotel were friendly. They did have wine hour every night (free wine for an hour) which was great.
With modern designs and large rooms, you can't fail if you stay at The Marker. The service was excellent, the rooms clean, and it has a very nice restaurant/bar in the lobby.
Very well. Close to all transportation, shops. Lively area less than a 10 minute walk but very quiet and nice hotel. The staff were very helpful.
Beautiful lobby. Good quiet place to sit and collect your thoughts. The bar is a great spot to arrange to meet your party before tackling Union Square or for an after dinner/theatre cocktail.
Good location and nice décor! But the desk staff were very busy and wondered if that was the reason for their distance.
In addition, the room accidentally drink a bottle of water to us. They offer free coffee and hot chocolate at 8 o ' Day in the morning! The family behind me came with the baby and didn't drink it, and the only thing that was free didn't feel like a real backup. The fridge in the room broke down and called the counter to say that it can't be repaired now, I said, but we bought the sushi, and the counter said, it can get the first floor of ice. I was in the middle of the night wearing pajamas, and would not think to help, are the guests to find a way. Refrigerators are not ice, but they serve as ice in big cities.
Loved the Marker hotel, clean, friendly staff and very convenient location, 2 blocks from Union Square! The happy hour from 5-6 with live local musicians was a plus! Definitely recommend this hotel!
Nice structure, near Union Sqare, polite and kind staff.
Elegant, comfortable, clean and in a good location — not far from Union Square. The staff was very helpful.
The room was well furnished and comfortable. There was no view from the windows but the hotel is ideally located just off union square. The staff are very friendly. As well as offering free coffee and tea in the morning and wine in the evening you also get access to free bikes to travel the city on. (Not sure how easy it was to get a bike as the hills put me off) overall a lovely hotel.
Very nice rooms, very clean and modern. However they are pretty small and we literally have a view of the dumpsters. Additionally, the $22 resort fee is a bit absurd. The area it is in is a little scary, though there are many other nice hotels and restaurants on the street. It is clearly an area in transition.
Top notch hotel. Quiet showers and AC. Friendly staff. Super clean and comfortable. Great value for the money. I had a question about a charge and they got promptly back to me after leaving a voice mail.
The Market is conveniently located, and the staff were extremely courteous. My issue with this location is their effort to gouge you at every turn. Bottle of water? $6. Brought your own? Can't use the refrigerator in the room to keep it cool. Upon checkout, I was informed of a $20 "amenities fee, " a hidden cost of which I was previously unaware. I know these issues are not unique to The Marker, but I still find them unacceptable.
Good location. The hotel has a trendy look. They offer happy hour at the lounge of the hotel every day: free beer and wine. Rooms are small but tidy. Would stay here again. Fair $ for the service, room and location you get.
Very spacious junior suite with some fun decor. Huge jacuzzi bath tub. Excellent service! The mattress was not comfortable but they did compensate us with a free upgrade and a free breakfast. Happy hour they serve a complimentary yummy house wine. Location, location, location!
Excellent Reception
Very clean!
Great stay.
Hotel located in strategic point, but very much flaws on the quality of the services and the breakfast costs an eye of the head.
Very nice Hotel The only problem is the paid parking, for 3 nights $180 are excessive.
Great hotel. Well priced. Great rooms, great staff. Bed was very comfortable. Only slight down was the dated showers. Would stay here again for sure.
Despite the great location and the nice suite, the resort fee is overpriced and got charged even more after check out. It's a shame the pricing is not more transparent because the facilities are great.
I recently stayed one night at The Marker San Francisco to attend an event nearby. The hotel staff was helpful and courteous. It was reasonably priced compared to nearby hotels and from what I could tell, a better area of town. Although, just a few blocks away are some not good areas. I've realized I left my eyeglasses behind when checking out, so I hope that they can help me with that.
We chose this hotel out of the considerable pool of places to stay near Union Square because of TA's stellar reviews. However, I was quite disappointed. Location was a bit sketchy even as a native New Yorker. Fee Wi-Fi but it was annoyingly slow and didn't always work. I had high expectations for this place, but was dismayed by the diminutive room, even with an upgrade ($50 per night) Walls are paper thin and you can hear conversations and crying babies throughout the night. Even worse, drilling in the am. I am actually surprised this place is able to pull off 4 stars. No room service for a 4 star hotel? Weird. The best part was that we were charged at $32.50 service fee daily and had no cleaning! By the time we got back to our room we were too tired to complain and point out there was no cleaning. Happened two days in a row! Steer clear of crap hotel. We were better off using air Bnb!
Wonderful staff nothing is to much trouble, rooms are well appointed to a high standard. In house restaurant is very good steaks are keenly priced with similar restaurants. Location is great for shopping and sight seeing in union square, tram stop is at the bottom of the hill. Overall I would recommend this hotel but it comes at a price there's state tax and room tax to go on top per day and it does mount up.
Unfortunately, when I booked the hotel, nowhere did it say that an additional $30/day would be charged. It was only after I booked the hotel that I found a review on TripAdvisor that pointed this out. If I knew that they would charge an additional $30/day, this would completely change the nightly rate and I would've booked a nicer hotel. Checked in around 1pm, the agent was nice, but said our room was unavailable, as check in time is 3pm. Okay. We stored our bags with the bellman and left to wander for the day. We came back around 5 to pick up our keys and went to our room, 438.1. Our bags weren't in the room (terrible communication between your teams) and 2. The room was tiny, overlooked an HVAC system and we could only see another building — meaning no sunlight. Why would you even bother booking guests in this room if you're not at full occupancy? This is disappointing. I called the front desk, and Isaac put us in another room on a higher floor, 602. Much much better. At least I get to overlook a garage, garbage and the side street, along with plenty of sunlight. Bathroom was not very functional — there's minimal counter space by the sink and there could've been some shelves beneath the sink for added functionality. Our new room was an average NYC size hotel room, so I suppose that's reasonable. The sink in the bathroom loudly whistles when you turn on the water — a bit annoying. Windows are thin and so are the doors.
Nice rooms, stocked with everything from personal hygiene items to snacks and alcohol in a mini fridge. Rooms are nice and the hotel is in a good location. The staff were very nice. Great experience!
Friendly staff, nice location. Overpriced extras, $6 water bottles. I'd expect to have certain things available upon request at no charge, considering high rates. Alas, if you need a toothbrush and Walgreen's across the street is closed for a day, it will cost you 5x Walgreen's. Ok rooms, decaying condition of the amenities though. Nothing looks horrible at a glance, just sloppy repairs and poor paint jobs.
Just want to THANK The Marker hotel for treating us so special when we were celebrating my birthday last weekend. Fabulous champagne and an adorable card (custom made by Eddie Lopez, Front Desk Manager) were delivered and immensely enjoyed. Can't wait to return to The Marker.
One would think that spending more on a hotel room would get you a room on a higher floor. Not at The Marker; I was told at check-in that all junior suites at this hotel are located on the second floor. This made for an unpleasant weekend stay as street noise made it impossible to get restful sleep (think Union Square, Friday and Saturday night, old building with thin windows, on the second floor). I'll be staying at another hotel the next time I need to stay in Union Square.
Location is close to union square although the area surrounding can be a little sketchy at times. Rooms are a good size and clean. Havent had any issues with noise at all. Overall pretty good hotel.
Very nice hotel, great service. Big rooms I got the junior suite. 1 star less due to no room service which is super critical for a family with younglings. Well kept modern overall highly recommended.
Located in the heart of the theatre district, the marker offers exceptional service at an affordable price. My room was clean and composed, the service was fast and polite — and theres free wine at 5pm.
I've stayed here a few times and have enjoyed my stay each time. The staff were always kind and helpful.
This was a very nice place to stay if you are visiting the city. The rooms are very clean, tidy, and updated. Thick walls to so noise pollution wasn't an issue during my visit. They are within walking distance from plenty amazing bars. If you are planning in eating at the restaurant however, you may want to make other arrangements. The food was very pricey, and not very tasty.
Awesome hotel, but double check your bill for mini bar purchases you didn't make! Great lobby, spacious rooms.
Overall a disappointment. My minimum expectation of a hotel of this calibre is that the room be clean, the bed comfortable and that the place be relatively quiet. The Marker failed on all these aspects. Upon our evening arrival there was a blower in the room drying out a damp carpet… the room was dank and musty. It took sometime to get used to the peculiar smells. The bedside table tops were smeared in hand prints and the drawers where full of food crumbs, the bed had a spongy foam cover in an attempt to get some more use out of a worn out mattress and in middle of the night the cleaning crew was banging doors in the corridor. The bathroom in the Deluxe King Bedroom was about 5'-6" x 6'-6"… inclusive of the shower/tub and so small the door had to swing outwards… I could stick my feet out the door when sitting on the toilet… and while the bathroom seemed clean… unlike the room… the finishes were worn out. There is no in-room food service available… but the restaurant downstairs will prepare a take-out meal that you can bring up to your room. The food was good… the noise level in the restaurant was terrible. Finally, my IPAD which was left charging on the bedside table was stolen while we were out of the room… when I called down to front desk to simply report the therft the fellow who answered was defensive and said the hotel is not responsible for items that go missing from rooms.
We celebrated our honeymoon in San Francisco in 1994. We were looking forward to our approaching 21st anniversary as our first return visit to the city-so we wanted it to be special. After viewing the photos online, we knew that THE MARKER San Francisco would be a luxury experience. It was fabulous. What made it so special was the warm welcome we received from our Guest Services Manager, Wesley Chan. When he learned the reason we were there, he generously upgraded us to a beautiful suite which would make most SF city dwellers jealous! Spacious, elegant and comfortable. As two flatlanders, we spent the next day walking, walking, walking hills and, once again, Wesley’s thoughtfulness overwhelmed us. We walked into the room and discovered a gift — a bottle of our favorite drink and bath salts to soothe our aching muscles. Wow. So, yes, not only would I recommend staying at this wonderful hotel; I must recommend the outstanding service and thoughtfulness of the staff. Wesley at THE MARKER over-delivered on all expectations… we had for a wonderful time and great memories from San Francisco! Thank you so much!
Clean, very nice rooms. Good location. I would stay there again definitely.
If you are looking to avoid the tenderloin, you will be glad you chose this hotel (just heads towards Union square and not the other way)! Super friendly staff. Wonderful decorations and relaxing lobby. The Concierge make you feel like royalty. They even let me checkin when I arrived at 10 AM!
The best waiter of our trip — > Jose, charming. The site very neat and in the center of S. Francisco.
My Mother and I came to San Francisco for a week of sightseeing. At the last minute we changed to the Hotel Monaco, a Kimpton Hotel. I am so glad. We were greeted with a smile everyday by Danny, coming and going. Danny, Eddie and Jackson were always helpful to send us on our way with all questions answered and directions to keep us straight. Their restaurant was in renovation, so everyday there was a continental breakfast for us. The room was always clean and the gym was great, even for my 87 year old mother!. Location was good for all our jaunts. They accommodated us, adding my daughter on for the weekend. We are very happy with our treatment. Danny was very special. We will come back in the future.
