Pretty decent hotel very well located at the heart of SF. Our bedroom was not noisy at all but had a beautiful view of next hotel's room bed. Not so much private! Staff could be friendlier and cleaning improved. Shampoo was not refilled and loft is one of the slowest ever. Good value.

Goal was to book a cheaper room in SF. This was it. Delivered on what I thought it should. Lobby smells great thanks to Lush being next door. Came with a voucher for free breakfast up the street. Somewhat old but what do you expect? Says kid friendly but I don't know if a 7th floor room with a window and no screen is kid friendly.

Great location, right downtown… A little pricey but so is everything in SF. Rooms do not have a fridge, plan ahead. Room is pretty small. No breakfast is included but there's like literally a thousand restaurants within walking distance.

Historical building with VERY tiny rooms. Clean, and nice, but very small. One of those odd setups where the sink isn't in the bathroom, which isn't my preference. Overall decent experience. The neighborhood it's in is nice and close to the convention center.

Affordable hotel in downtown San Francisco, which is rare. Great location with so many options within walking distances and parking one block away under Union Square. Rooms are small and dated, facilities are minimal. The concierge was extremely friendly and accommodating with plenty of suggestions for travel and tourist spots to visit. It ain’t the Ritz but one of the more affordable options.

Overall excellent location and value for the price I payed. The room was okay, furniture was definitely dated and the place could benefit from a renovation, but it was clean and comfortable. I had a room facing the street and the windows offered really bad sound isolation. It was kind of hard to fall asleep with somebody playing drums in the street just below my room. I may have been just unlucky with the room though.

Rooms: Requested an upgrade to two queen sized beds as my mom was tagging along on the trip. We received larger twin sized beds. We requested towels for the three people living in the room and only received two. Even after a call to the front desk, we did not receive additional towels so we needed to rummage around to find something. Room sizes are quite small. For a double room, it would be around a 12'x18' room for sleeping. So your space will be cramped as well as sparse. There's a single very small closet with 10 hangers and no chest of drawers. Unless your clothes can be put onto hangers, they'll best be suited inside your luggage Sound: Noise levels from other guests is acceptable. I never heard a peep from any other room. The street is quite loud, however. With the hotel positioned right next to the old trolley car lines, the evenings can be very loud. There is no central air, as with many buildings in California, so you must open a window for any cool evening air to flow in. If you're accustomed to loud sounds, you should be fine. Otherwise, you may want to find another accommodation.

Great location. Friendly staff. Small rooms and slow elevator are the only real issues here. Excellent value if you don't plan to hang out in the room a lot.

Location is key with this hotel. Like, it's definitely a prime location. Room is small, as expected since it's not high end and in the middle of the city. I just can't imagine anyone staying here when it's hot. Air circulation isn't that great. Outside wind is cold and strong, room is still warm / hot. Some rooms have the bathroom facing outside, so if someone likes to sing or plays songs while they're showering in the morning, you'd get to get woken up and enjoy the free show. Staffs are friendly. If you need housekeeping, you need to ask for that. Otherwise, there won't be housekeeping. No fridge, hot water or anything at all. There is an iron in the wardrobe, and small ironing board. It smells a bit funky inside the wardrobe though, but it just smells like those wooden board. Bed is pretty soft too. I don't like soft bed, so there's that. If you like firm bed, you might have trouble sleeping here.

Tiny room and high cost but served and pretty much in Union Square… Good choice…

Strongly recommend the hotel. The place is clean, well maintained and the location is superb. The staff were super helpful even allowing me to check in with no additional. Cost 6 hours before standard. Check in time since I came. On a early morning international flight. The breakfast helps, a little basic, but good.

Do I really have to give a star to continue? This place is garbage. Reserved a room here 3 weeks in advance… get there and they put us in a room with two twin beds when we asked for a queen… call the front desk to let them know of the mistake and the kid (Ian) says there's nothing he can do about it and if we want a discount we'd have to contact management. Fair enough. Checking out the following day and great news… another employee says he can give the discount. 2 weeks later they still have not given the discount nor the $100 deposit… called the hotel a couple of times and they state they've changed management and we have to email Jamie. At this point… no return calls, no emails, no deposit and no discount. Don't come here… this is a horrible place. Oh and btw Ian, the owner's nephew could care less about our situation. Garbage.

Small room but perfectly acceptable if you're just looking for a no frills place to catch some sleep in between your adventures in the city. Nice staff. Free breakfast is always welcome.

Excellent location, old hotel, everything was ok except for the woman who attended the breakfast, very unpleasant, and the shower.

Great location. Cool staff. They will hold your luggage after check out if you want to tour the city, without lugging your stuff around.

I stayed here in May of this year. It was clean, centrally located to all the places I was going to see and the staff was helpful. It's a small room but there is so much to do in San Francisco to just stay in a room.

Very good location and well connected, a few meters from Union Square and the metro station, where they turn the Cable Car. The staff is friendly and willing to help out as much as possible. Breakfast from 7 to 9:30, no big deal: coffee, toast and muffins. The elevator is very slow, it takes less down the stairs. There's carpeting all over the floor. It's clean and overall it's a good place to sleep and the rest of the time enjoy the city.

The location is perfect! I recommend it to everyone.
Breakfast included, free Wi-Fi.

The good: location, price, staff, acceptable breakfast. The bad: the rooms! This is definitely not a comfortable hotel. We were only there overnight, but even then I️ barely made it through. Very dingy and tiny rooms. Incredibly antiquated, and not in a good way. The sink is in the living room, right by the bed. The carpet was sticky and the room overall felt grimy. There was an old radiator heater, that looked like a tort waiting to happen. Overall, if you’re not planning on spending much time in the room, it’s perfect because again, great location right in the middle of historic SF.

Great location and very clean. The room had one of those old fashioned radiators that couldn’t be manipulated from the room and it was a little cold at night. The service was great, everybody was very kind. The breakfast lacked choices, basically only cereal, milk, bread, some fruit and mini-muffins. My recommendation would be that rooms should have air conditioning/heating system and the breakfast should include much more.

Downtown Hotel. Simple and very clean. Very friendly staff The typical hotel you see in movies. I recommend it.

Trolley car turnaround starting place is one block away. There is one stop for the trolley right in front of the hotel. Beautiful views centrally located. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast to start the morning off downstairs on second floor. I would highly recommend this place to anybody definitely all of my friends and family.

Also the elevator takes like 5 years to go up 5 floors. The staff is super great and friendly though, every time I came in I was greeted and felt very welcomed and one particular guy was very chatty and enthusiastic and helpful with advice and recommendations about the city and surrounding areas. The location also can't be beat! Close to everything in the financial district/market st/mission, and a short few blocks to public transit for everything else in the city. I would stay here again for sure.

Hotel well located and clean, but there is no air conditioning, breakfast is very simple and in our room there was a musty smell that had to come from the bathroom.

Rooms are clean, towels are clean. Rooms are really really small though. We upgraded from a normal room to double queen room but even the double queen room wasnt very large. Breakfast is very minimal (continental). Basically it's toast with butter or jam.

I wouldn't stay here again because the shower, at least in room 302, was unbelievably bad. Hardly any water pressure at all, and tiny holes so hardly any water comes out period. It took me 5 minutes before my whole body had been touched by water. The room is noisy at night from the trucks on the street outside, but I was so tired I didn't care. Free breakfast is offered, but it's 100% carbs (bread, muffins, cereal, fruit) so not great if you care about diet. The hotel was generally clean and the staff polite though.

Super cute. Has an old time feel. The rooms are small and heated with a radiator. Which matches the time period the building was built. The parking garage is not on the same street as the hotel. This makes it confusing for checking in. Also like most places in SF parking is expensive.

Perfect for those who want to visit the city for its location unfortunately as service is a bit poor.

Look the hotels rooms are small and it is close to everything — Union Square. So that is commen knowledge, and we found that to be accurate. The rooms are also clean and the bed was ok, not great. We found the check-in service a bit all over the place. Also had a car and was pointed to Union square parking although we said we did not want to pay the extreme fees of the inner city — it cost $36 for 12 hours only to discover we could have parked a few blocks down for $12. I must however stress the breakfeast included is NOT breakfast. It's toast, a bannana and cereal. They served coffee and tea. I would not recommend this place for longer than 1 nights stay but if your only in town for the night and out early it would suffice.

Small, but central. A great solution to start discovering SF.

Very centrally located if you don't have a car. Close to all transport to see the sites. Rooms small but comfortable with conveniences adequate. A little noisy at times! But any facility can be. We found the hotel staff helpful. Continental breakfast nice. For the price paid for location its good value. Only complaint is the air conditioning. Rooms very warm and fan had 2 speeds, only just going or flat out. At least the windows opened. Ifyou want comfort but no frills its great.

Its in the center of downtown. Wonderful location for backpackers who come without a vehicle. Public parking costs a lot for just 1 night.

The room was actually ok and located in the epicenter of San Francisco with walking distance to most of the tourist attractions we wanted to see. The customer service at the reception of the hotel however, was absolutely awful. We had issues with our room reservation and the gentleman at the reception was very rude and condescending and told us "it was a 100% your fault. " I've never been addressed in such a ill-mannered behavior from a customer service person and therefore I'm crediting this hotel the lowest rating of one star.

What a great group of people working at this hotel! Hats off to Miguel, Amir, Jaimie, and the lovely blond, Irish girl at the front desk. All were so friendly and accommodating, especially Miguel, who went out of his way to make our stay extra special by placing us in the family room. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and of course, you can't beat the location. We had a great time in SF and I'll definitely stay here again when I come up from SD. Thank you!

The hotel was great the. It we had a great experience. It was very affordable. We just wish it had a little bit more appliances the actual room.

Weight room 8:08. Found mold in our shower and looked at two other rooms and found the same mold there. The staff was rude and lied through their teeth. Cleaning service did not show up until 4:15 p. M. Then stay blessed for 8 minutes without even running the water. The free breakfast was a joke. It included bread, butter, coffee and oranges. We booked our trip through expedia and tried to move our hotel because of the disgusting environment. The management made it extremely difficult to make this change. Not only were they difficult, they were condescending and rude. When we attempted to change hotels it took so long that we would have missed our tour of Alcatraz if we had not left after an hour of arguing. And we were told that we could leave are packed belongings in the room. When we arrived back, we found that we had been locked out of our room and they were holding our possessions hostage. They would not unlock our room until we paid for an extra night. If I could give less than one star I would.

It was ok. Nice. But the rooms are small. Way small. Like a hox. No ac. No wind flow when you open the window because you are hugging the next building. Ceiling fan didn't work right. When we told the front desk they said they could only fix it if one of us was in the room. We were on vacation, we had plans. We couldn't stay in our room waiting we wanted to see the city. Other than that. The staff was great. Knew a lot of the city. Super nice and respectful.

I gave this 2 stars, not because I disliked it, but rather so you know that it's more of a 2 star hotel (some online hotel booking sites will claim it's 3*). Pros: — much cheaper than bigger hotels — free Wi-Fi — fairly comfy bed (and no bed bugs) — free breakfast & tea /coffee through day — friendly hotel mgmt — cable tv — good location — near walgreens Cons: — super slow elevator (and fits about 3-4 people at most), would suggest taking stairs if possible. — a bit old/dirty hallways/rooms — sink is right in front of the bed, not where the washroom/bath is — no air condition, gets hot, but if you open window, can be pretty noisy street — no safety lock for valuables if that's a concern for you.

No complaints except that the shower water was draining slow. Need more water… Don't know if it's just our room or everybody else's… Otherwise the staff are very helpful especially the fellow named Jack. Easy and very friendly to approach.

For a minimally higher price, there are several other hotels that are nicer. The room was extremely small, the lift takes forever. That said, the staff are nice.

The hotel Stratford San Francisco has a great location. It is rather expensive and very small.

The room looked nothing like any room choice pictures on their website. Ours was ridiculously SMALL… When I asked the front desk lady if all the rooms were the same size she said YES! Which clearly is a lie according to their website… There was barely room to walk around our bed and zero room for luggage! NO A/C… yes… NO air conditioning and it doesn't state that anywhere on website either! We came in Sept and it just so happened to be extremely warm that weekend and it was pretty unbareable. Great location but awful amenities! Would not stay here again. Completely misleading!

Great for the price. The lobby, rooms, and linens were clean. No bed bugs in our room. Two windows at a medium size room. The staff was very nice. No mold in the room. They allowed me to take my luggage to a conference after I checked out and store it back in their locked holding room when I returned to have dinner and see the town before my flight. We had cash in the luggage and it wasn't bothered. Cleaning staff was always around but we didn't let them into our room for the 3 nights we stayed. One of the tubes of toiletries was used, but full. The location is good with lots of restaurants and close to the Moscone and Chinatown. Relatively close to the financial district. Breakfast was mediocre but not stale or bad. Water heats fast but low pressure. Only had a shower. The elevator was quite slow (1 serves 8 floors) but the stairs are convenient. Legitimately free, fast Wi-Fi (not account or time limited and we had great bandwidth). There were no dressers I don't believe, but a large sink table and working desk. The TV was wall mounted with free HDMI, VGA, component and composite inputs. Nothing reeked of smoke and the location did not have delinquents loitering around like some hotels in the area. You can definitely hear street traffic even on the 8th floor as the windows in the hotel are often open during the summer, so if you're a light sleeper, you may not want to stay here. But there are ceiling fans and a radiator.

Small and relatively old hotel with not much comfort. It is very centrally located, close to the cable-car terminus (Drehschiebe) Powell/Market Street, where the two lines start Powell/Hyde and Powell/Mason. Chinatown is located at 15 minutes walking. Many bus, tram and metro lines are only about 250 m away, as well as the largest shopping center of S. F.
The reception is always friendly and breakfast OK.
If you don't all have to large claims, it is the perfect hotel to explore from there from San Francisco.

It's a good hotel, perfect location pretty close to any important store and moscone, I just miss the air conditionate Recommended to stay by a little budget.

We stayed here for a few nights on our honeymoon as we were passing through San Francisco and wanted a reasonable central location. The choice was a compromise between price and location and comfort expectations from other reviews. When we arrived, we were told our booking was lost. Then we were told that our booking was no longer available and we booked too close to the date (we actually booked months and months in advance, so maybe it's more that we booked too long ago). We were then told that we would be downgraded as that was the hotel's policy. Instead of the "suite" we were given the tiny room 606, with its torturous elevator wait times and pokey room size that's so small you can't even open a suitcase! At this point, the staff didn't care, and we were generally treated like idiots. After complaining to different staff on the front desk, most of whom really didn't care, we were eventually contacted by manager Jamie who sorted us out and moved us to room 400/401 on the front of the building — a much larger suite which was really comfortable despite the smell from Lush wafting in the window. Amazingly the sound of the cable cars here really didn't bother us as other people have mentioned in other reviews. Jamie saved the day, but we're still left remembering how the other staff treated us, and the size of the "normal" room we were apparently given on our first day. Despite Jamie's efforts, I don't think I could recommend the Stratford in good conscience.

This is a budget hotel for sure, but it is located in a very convenient location. I stayed here for a few days while attending a conference nearby. The location of this place is great, easy walking access to anywhere nearby. The actual facilities were decent for the price. I somehow ended up with a room with two twin beds instead of one queen, and the twin beds were extremely small (I am over 6' tall) and my feet hung off the end of the bed. There was no fitted sheet and instead they used a flat sheet which didn't reach all the way to the end of the bed and I could feel the mattress pad at the end of the bed which I didn't like either. I'm sure these are exceptions, and had I got a queen-sized bed it would have been a much better experience. Not bad for the price, though. Very friendly staff.

We booked the 'Club Queen' room for a week's stay. The staff are friendly enough the first thing to remember that this is a budget hotel, but at an increased rate because of its location. 'Waterfall Shower' means regular shower, rather than a shower coming from the ceiling. As I am over 6 foot I was hoping for a real waterfall shower not just a normal fixed shower head. TVs are 'new' HD ready, but not connected to any HD input. The picture size was also stuck on 4:3 stretched, without the original remote there was nothing we could do. The rooms are small, and there is not really enough room for 2 peoples luggage for a week's stay. The bed is a normal double. Location is good, but be prepared as rooms are quite noisy. Either from outside on the street (near constantly during the night everyday of the week) or other visitors.
