Reviews of voco Grand Central 4*
Lovely hotel, our room was huge, Spotlessly clean, comfy bed, absolutely loved it. Stayed here a few times, brought my Grandson for an overnight stay earlier in the year as I always feel safe in this hotel. He loved his stay also 😀
Friendly and helpful staff, spacious rooms, great breakfast and superb central location. 500 airport bus stops 300 metres away — on the flat!
Had an amazing 2 night break with my husband for my birthday. Was 1st class start to finish. Rooms where amazing and very large. Will definitely be back.
Lovely hotel! Very helpful staff and you dont even have to exit the station if you arrive by train👌🏻
Great staff very friendly.
I was here 2 years ago just before covid and back again today. Beautiful hotel right at the train station. Everyone at the desk was wonderful and helpful. Clean and very comfortable rooms. Would highly recommend. Don't forget to check out the champagne bar.
We stayed here a few weeks ago and was not a comfortable stay at all. Reception very unhelpful. Asked about a taxi was told impossible to get one due to 4 events on that evening. No suggestion of any no to try. In customer service it’s not what you say it’s how you say it. Room very small windows very high up and no way of closing the blind also constant running water through pipes all nigh no sleep for us at all. Breakfast only warm queue for one toaster and coffee tea and toaster the bloomer bread did no fit. Would we stay again no not @ £271 a night forvthatvwascexpecting a little more quality stayed at othevGlasgow hotel for less than half that price with better service and good night sleep and much better breakfast.
Fab food & service. Very friendly staff 💜💜
Rooms looks so good Staff very friendly Location very handy I will coming back again!
Was there for afternoon tea. Sandwiches were stale with very little filling. Staff were nice and service was good. Compared to other venues who were less expensive this was poor value for money. Wouldn't book again.
Very happy with our stay a5 this beautiful hotel … it was our 25th wedding anniversary and we were greeted with a bottle of bubbly on ice in our room. Lovely breakfast. Champagne bar lovely. Clean rooms. Would highly recommend 😀
Great rooms. Staff service was terrible.
Lovely afternoon tea. Great service. Will try again.
Great place to stay in Glasgow especially during the current Covid issues. Friendly staff and exceptionally clean rooms!
Fabulous hotel. We have stayed here over the years and never been disappointed x.
A hidden gem in the centre of Glasgow. Built at a time when space was not so expensive, the rooms, hallways and staircase are huge when compared to today’s budget type hotels.
The staff are of the highest calibre and nothing seems to much for them in terms of achieving a positive customer interaction.
All in all, one of our best Scottish hotel experiences we have had in a long time, and that includes the Sheraton in Edinburgh, Gleneagles and Turnberry!
Stayed here for two nights this week. Beautiful hotel which is enhanced by a great team of staff. Every staff member was helpful and genuinely pleasant. Great room, lovely breakfast…champagne bar finished it off nicely, later in the day! Would definitely recommend.
Fabulous hotel in a great location. The staff are amazing! Shout out to Shannon who directed us so precisely and checked us in so efficiently. She is friendly and kind. Guest services are also stars and got me an alternative when I told them I am non dairy. The only downside is the lack of parking on site. Will return for sure.
Stayed here last night with our two children and nothing was any trouble. Staff at check in were lovely and accomodating, despite us being exceptionally early our room was ready when we arrived. The room was spacious and the beds were amazing.
The kids were especially appreciative of the treats and drinks left for them by Allan on our return from the Science Centre.
The girl from room service was also lovely and very kind when hugged by our daughter.
Would definitely recommend and will be back soon.
Thanks for a great stay.
Probably the worst place I’ve ever stayed.
Unhelpful concierge. Reception staff not warm. Night staff even colder and rude. Crap room service. Mice were seen running about.
Won’t be returning.
What a stunning hotel and amazing staff that are amazing as the building that they work In… one hour after arriving I rebooked it was that good! well done to the management and staff it must take alot of hard work to get to that standard … the trick is making looking effortless which you do so well.
The Best Improvement it could make is by recognising that it's workers are not Sheep to be herded around as you wish but are instead people with aspirations, even simple ones like fairness, transparency and God forbid, the right to be in a Trade Union. So when you targeted members of a Trade Union by thinking that you were only inviting those who were non members back to work for you, you showed me and likely many others you are not a business with ethics or morality. No one wants to be involved in businesses like this.
Nice views and friendly staff.
Super ball room, location and great refurbished rooms.
Hotel is beautiful, rooms are spacious and very clean. Staff are really helpful and polite, couldn’t have been nicer. Great location too.
Absolutely fabulous meal staff were amazing very friendly and attentive cant wait for my return visit thank you once again to the staff for making our night memorable.
Nice and very spacious, old building with lots of character, lovely staff.
Beautiful hotel. Just had my work Xmas doo here
Staff were lovely. Meal was actually very nice
Booze a bit pricey, but you expect that
Only negative was the toilets, it’s always the loos, anyway just a bit smelly, so that could do with being sorted out.
Great. Fantastic staff and atmosphere.
The hotel is very nice but laid here now and cannot sleep the noise from. The train station is horrendous can hear every word. Them the lady comes on the tanoy the train at the platform? oh my days it's very loud.
Very comfortable hotel and the staff could not have been more helpful. Very friendly and excellent customer service. Thank you!
Great location and very comfortable.
Beautiful building, outstanding staff, couldn't do enough for you!
Just as good, if not better, than my last stay. Perfect hotel, great staff. Thanks for going the extra mile to look after my friend on his first visit to Scotland all the way from Arizona, USA!
Good staff, clean room, good price.
Really fabulous hotel and the staff are amazingly helpful and courteous! Food is stunning too!
Great spot! Lovely atmosphere and lovely central spot!
Fab weekend spent here for our Anniversary. Staff are amazing, can’t do enough for you. Lovely room even got an upgrade as it was our Anniversary. Great breakfast included in the room price. Also loved Champagne Central, great view over the station platform. Would highly recommend staying here, excellent value for money.
Wow what can I say! All the staff went above and beyond on making my daughters wedding day just perfect. Jade & Myko married on Saturday 27th October 2018 and I would not hesitate recommending The Grand Central Hotel for your special day. Wendy was just amazing, friendly and put my daughter at ease knowing that everything would be perfect. Ewan was at hand on the day to guarantee everything ran smoothly.
The food was delicious and the Chef James Murphy is just so passionate about his food and it showed he was even there the next morning to cook all our guests breakfast in the Champagne Bar which was closed off for us.
I don't have any negative comments it's was 5*.
I want to congratulate all the staff on making my daughter and my new son in laws perfect wedding day.
Thank you all so much x.
I saw on reviews that I only gsve 1 star but I assure you this was NOT MY review. I found our stay to be excellent. Rooms, food and staff were great and would certainly return.
Very good hotel with a lot of comfort that you wish as a guest for a relaxing stay. The service staff and all other staff as well as the management of the hotel are very friendly, competent and very keen to make the days in the hotel and also in the surrounding area as beautiful as possible. A special praise also goes to the top catering, the food in the restaurant is excellent and qualitatively it corresponds to the demanding guest. The price — performance ratio in the entire hotel is top! We can highly recommend the hotel to anyone who cares about quality and a wonderful stay. We will definitely come back and are looking forward to great relaxing days. First-rate!
It's so beautiful and everyone is so nice. Great location.
Very nice hotel right in the centre of Glasgow with period features from the railroad era, very well furnished rooms with comfortable beds, very nice bathrooms and good facilities, within easy reach of Glasgow International Airport via taxi or airport express bus (24 hour bus service) there are bars overlooking the Central train station. If you can't find the television, it is built into the large mirror at the end of the room. Centrally located walking distance from shops, restaurants and bars as well as being close to car hire companies (Jamaica Street enterprise car rental and Hertz car hire and I think Avis car hire as well, both on clyde Street) 5 minutes and 10 minutes walk away.
Very nice and friendly helpful staff only fault was the room was not ready till :. 30 pm.
Comfortable accommodation lovely large bathroom exceptionally good bed. The price we paid was conducive to the quality we received. We also enjoyed the time we spent in the Champagne Bar.
Nice grand hotel, lovely architecture and decor. Room nice and big but starting to look a little tired. We got a deal drink dine and dream, food was good but not excellent, restaurant was soulless and a drab. Bar was very lively and felt more like a club. Very good location if travelling into central station by train. Room was noisy after hours as taxi rank directly outside. Mixed experience with staff some very nice others obviously could not be bothered.
Spent two nights here staying in the John Logue Baird suite, rooms were good, plenty of space to relax although could do with a bath as well as a shower, with the windows open traffic noise was noticeable but was to be expected staying in a city, only a problem as it was hot when we visited. Didn’t use the restaurant as we were eating out so can’t pass comment on it but had breakfast in our rooms and both mornings it arrived hot and was very tasty. Had a couple of cocktails in the champagne bar which were well made and mentioned it was our wedding anniversary so the waiter got us a complimentary champagne each. All the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. Would stay here again as very competitively priced within the area.
Shockingly bad. How can a hotel charging this much money in this day and age provide an experience akin to fawlty towers? We had to change rooms because the first room we were in was filthy with a broken sink. We were advised that we were being upgraded to a “family suite”. Instead we were given a tiny room with a carpet that hasn’t seen a cleaner this decade and a fold out camp bed that is reminiscent of something you would find in an army barracks. The room smells musty, is too small to even swing a cat, no shower other than a fixed shower head above the bath, no tea and coffee facilities, no mini bar, grotty views, unbearable temperature. All in all, the worst experience I have had in a hotel for years. And to top it all off, we had to go through a rigorous security interrogation before being allowed into the hotel last night. Amusingly to think that anyone would try to get in here unless they really truly had to.
Extremely disappointed with this hotel. Lovely hotel nicely decorated and I can’t fault that. Customer service on the other hand was absolutely shocking. Bed room wasn’t cleaned when we arrived, windows and mirrors where filthy. Old toilet rolls laying on the floor, etc. We had to call reception four times to request for a fan for the bedroom, each time we got a different person and the process took over two hours. Shocking. Breakfast, I believe this meant to served up until 10am, we arrived at 9:20am and the food was rock solid and like rubber. We went to get toast and pancakes and the chief has turned off all the machines at 9:40am. Absolutely discussing attitude from the staff. We paid £16 each for a yogurt. On checkout we made a list of complaints to notify the manger and we got nothing but rude and aggressive attitude for the female working at checkout, she couldn’t care less about our experience. I requested to see her manager and typically he was in a meeting. As stated at the start, the hotel of lovely but the people definitely let it down. Extremely disappointed. Not worth the £160 per night. Still to hear from a manager.
It was a wonderful stay. The hotel is full of character and quite an cool to have been placed in a room overlooking the station concourse. Very good location. The only downside was the room was stifling hot and given the age of the building air conditioning was not an option. Nevertheless, would highly recommend.
The hotel is well located in part of the railway's central station. There is an entrance to the hotel from the train station itself. Parking is not simple or included in a room's price. They have an arrangement with a parking facility a couple of blocks away — you get a discount card from the hotel that is well worth it, considering the price of city parking. Service is excellent. Staff are very attentive and helpful. The hotel was recently renovated and the rooms are large (very high ceilings) and nicely laid out. The Reno has some glitches though. E. G. Our room's carpet had a loose ridge in it that was a tripping hazard. The main problem is the close proximity to the train station. Train announcements can be heard at all hours of the night and start in earnest in the wee hours of the morning. We stayed in a room distant from the station and the announcements were still far too audible.
Having your hotel in the trains station was both very convenient and super cool. We had a room overlooking the actual piano in the station and while getting ready for the evening watched the hustle and bustle of train passengers. I loved that. The hotel held our bags while we toured the Islw of Skye for 3 days which was awesome. The lobby was grand. The only thing was the room was hot and stuffy. Windows would only open a few inches.
Small room overlooking the train station, rather noisy. Rather disappointed in the end, I expected better. Nice staff. Good price but breakfast extra. Small room with a view inside the railway station, rather noisy. Overall disappointed, I was expecting better. Nice staff. Good price but breakfast not included.
The hotel is pretty nice. On the other hand the situation in the station makes some rooms (including ours) noisy. We were accommodated in a very small room above the sound of the station which aired until 23h a piano music, the double Windows closed badly so sound level was average and the view on the Hall of the station was really average… The corridors also are noisy, we were at the end of the corridor and from 7am in the morning in addition to the announcements to the speakers in the station we were entitled to a Festival of slaming doors… The night was not a restful one. This said the décor, the bathroom and the bedding were really good. The staff were friendly. On the other hand we did not have breakfast on the spot. With the bad surprise of the room which disappointed us a lot we did not want to take the risk of being disappointed by a breakfast at £12 per person.
It was my first time staying here. Right from the moment we arrived, we felt very welcome. Very comfortable room, great location. Great breakfast! Certainly hope to be back!
Lovely hotel very nostalgic excellent use of alcoves in the long corridors. Lovely staff will hold luggage if you arrive off the sleeper and also handy if leaving on a sleeper. Breakfast nice, took us a while to realise the telly was in a mirror wall, ha ha.
We stayed one night to attend a family dinner in glasgow. We were able to check in early which was a bonus. Our room was modern and clean and was reasonably big. The bathroom was nice and well equipped. Breakfast was included in our stay and it was delicious!
The Grand Central Glasgow has exceeded every expectation I could’ve had. Went for my 21st, girlfriends treat, and you couldn’t be any more helpful. Next night booked again got upgraded and it was class! Then to round it off, had to leave at 6am for the train and your staff had a takeaway breakfast, including hot roll, ready for me leaving. I would 100% recommend this hotel for anyone — whether business, couples night away, stopping off before travelling! Will definitely be back, thanks again!
I was there for a conference so did not see the rooms or dining but the rest is still spectacular harking back to a grand old age when railway was king and hotels like this were central to that power. Apart from the vista the service was superior and always polite but friendly. The hotel is worth a visit if only to view the chandler in the grand staircase.
2 days in this hotel well located but beware if you come by car impossible to park in front even to unload the car.
Evening in the hotel with music to the bottom. Could not sleep before 1am despite we were on the 2nd floor!
This is a truly beautiful hotel, the staff are friendly and welcoming, the decor is stunning, even in the corridors were pretty little alcoves with seating which was a joy to sit and work in. The rooms were clean and again, stunning! The only downside was the floor to ceiling mirror opposite the bed where the TV was inside… it was a little irritating and a bit of a gimmick, it made it really difficult to watch TV with a reflection of EVERYTHING in the room. The room was also very warm and stuffy even with the heating off and the window open. The hotel breakfast is delicious, a great selection and staff are wonderful. The cocktail bar is also a delight! I would definitely stay here again if I was ever in the area.
Very friendly, very comfortable. Good shower and good bed. But I saw a waitress put clean sheets on the floor that was carpeted and gave me mistrust the cleanliness. Otherwise, all very well, including the price.
The staff where so helpful and friendly, it was great. There always seemed to be someone on hand. We stayed with our 20 mo baby and they were quick, helpful and understanding at meal times and in the room. Really enjoyed our stay.
We hosted our daugther's wedding here with many guests staying over… couldn't have been better. Wonderful service from all the staff, many favourable comments from our guests… truly a gem. So pleased with everything!
Hotel takes you back in time. Large grand stairway and rooms. Lots of little nooks and crannies were you find something new. Friendly staff and great bars. Non residents welcome also!
Superb staff — excellent service and brilliant location. Food was delicious and first class breakfast. Will definitely come back to celebrate our wedding anniversary in April.
A charity dinner last night. Great room but, not enough staff. Poor service. Dirty and broken toilets. Very poor for something that’s supposed to be ‘5-star’. Not on this experience.
I recently visited the Grand Central hotel for my work's christmas night out. While I had a great night, I don't think it was value for money. For £60 a head, I would at least expect a welcome drink and a glass of wine with your dinner. Also disappointed that there was no choice of meal. Band and DJ both were excellent and the Ballroom was decorated beautifully. Service was great.
Beautiful hotel. Been a couple of times for a social event and the food fantastic. Good selection of drinks from the bar and priced the same as most pubs in the city centre. Would definitely recommend.
Had our works Christmas party night there. Was a wonderful night. Great food, great entertainment and the serving team were brilliant. The Grand Central know how to do Christmas and the historical surroundings of the building itself are just beautiful. Would highly recommend.
The only reason it has two stars is because of the friendly and kind staff. Booked a superior room which was up in the loft area, and so tiny you had to squeeze past the bed. But what really got me was there was no cupboard for clothes just a rail with hangers! And that was supposed to be superior. Changed room but ended up in a room on first floor and underneath a party was booked. Music until 1 am and so loud you could hear the words. When I complained the answer was that they had paid for it, as if I hadn’t paid for our room! They kindly offered to refund the room but I would rather be able to sleep! Hence I am still up writing this review! I can’t believe how bad this place is.
From a GRAND Hotel I expect more.
The location is great.
Recommendable hotel in the heart of Glasgow. Walking through the halls and stairwells you will get an impression how noble this place once was — which does not mean that it has changed much to the worse since then. The rooms were large and well staffed, bathrooms clean and modern and the breakfast just what you would expect. Unluckily my colleague got a room with windows to the central station platforms (under the same roof as the 1st and 2nd floor of the hotel rooms). While this provided a special and funny experience to look out, the passenger traffic of the incoming trains started at 5:00 next morning, which degraded the over-night-experience drastically. Though — good value for money with the charm of the Victorian age.
Probably our least favourite spot that we have stayed at our entire trip. Let’s get the positives out of the way… The hotel is very centrally located — right in the center of the city and close to Grand Central train station if you are looking to get in or out of the city quickly. It also has a historic feel to the entire building which gives it some added character. The negatives though… Firstly, there was no heating in the room. For some reason all of the heaters are deactivated. One of the hotel staff members told us that they don’t activate the heaters until the end of October while a second mentioned that they just keep them off during the daytime in the summer/fall months. The heaters never came on and we ended up having to have the staff come up and provide us with an electrical heater. It helped keep the room a little bit warmer, but the bathroom and living room area never really warmed up at all. It boggles my mind that the heating is still turned off considering what time of year it is. Maybe this is something that they can’t control as they are attached to the station, but this is something that guests should be aware of when selecting this hotel. We also struggled with the Wi-Fi for our entire visit. It was slow when it was connected and it often disconnected during use. Our room received 2/3 bars max. Lastly, while we enjoyed the older feeling of the hotel, our room looked fairly rundown and beat up. I took pictures of some of the walls.
Had a wonderful stay at the hotel for our 20th Wedding anniversary — we had our wedding reception there in 1997. Food was delicious and service exceptional during our overnight stay. Staff were very happy to help and were friendly and interested. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Overall would not hesitate to recommend Grand Central Hotel.
Nice and central. Plenty parking around. Great staff. Well organised event areas.
Right next to the station. Very central. Good service and fairly luxurious for the price. I'm staying for free so even better but seems good value. Pricey room service but so close to everything why bother.
Good location, good rooms, great old building. Rooms are modern and contemporary. Staff have been professional. Would stay again.
We attended a wedding at this hotel. It is a lovely venue. The drinks are rather expensive (£6 for a vodka and coke). A wonderful day was had by all.
Excellent location. Only two receptionists so check in can be slow at times with queuing. Good breakfast. Large clean rooms. Some exterior noise but not too bad. Helpful concierge. Reasonable value for money.
The building is very nice. Being so close to the train is quite nice too. The staff were very helpful and just plain great! Breakfast in the hotel's restaurant was good, but I did not like the coffee. My only real complaint is that the room was too warm for sleeping and it was quite loud & bright outside (but since it is right downtown on a busy street, it should be expected) … but I would definitetly stay there again.
Location of the hotel is great, right in the city centre and next to the main station. Staff were also good, very friendly and helpful. But… and there are a few buts. Firstly the room was very hot (and it was only May), there is no AC and the windows only slightly open. Next the door in the bathroom facing the toilet is glass and so never felt particularly comfortable. Then small things like in the room there were lots of mini shampoo bottles but no shower gel and the lifts in the hotel were very very slow so we had to wait for ages to get to our room. All in all, the small niggles we could live with but the hot room meant we got a very poor nights sleep. In fairness at checkout they asked how was the stay and I mentioned the issues and they were very good about it (hence two stars) but I would not stay there again.
Very well equipped and quiet rooms for business meetings. Business lounge is excellent, staff are easy to get hold of and always quick to assist with any queries. Location is second to none for convenience and the sympathetically restored interior of the building is both comfortable and impressive. The bar too is very nice, with views over Central Station concourse to the main departure boards meaning it's not only a convenient and pleasant place for post-meeting refreshments, but also handy for attendees travelling home afterwards.
Nice venue, big old place. Meeting rooms and surrounding public areas were really quiet. About as close to the centre of the toon as you can be. Bit of farting about to get the TV hooked up, but solved by the helpful staff.
Great Staff, Great service, great night. An enjoyable prom overall. The food was very good and it was a very nice building.
The location of the event was very good. Centre of Glasgow. However Hall was very stuffy and hot. Food was terrible.
We were here for afternoon tea for a hen party. The food was lovely as were the drinks, however service was rather slow. We were in a separate room, however this wasn't marked as reserved or having a function in it so other people kept coming in looking for tables which was a bit annoying after a while.
A good hotel with lots of railway theming (paintings, clocks etc) due to it's location right next to the railway station. A great location in the centre of the city and with a good bar and impressive chandeliers, the only reason I rate it 4 stars is due to the room feeling a little grubby.
In my 1000 nights of hotel stays, this must be one of the absolute worst hotels I've ever had the displeasure of staying at, and having just checked in from the W Barcelona it's like putting salt on a wound. Literally feeling the pain right now. Let's start with the accommodations. The king bed is 2 twins smashed together and held with 2 cables. The bedding is thin enough that you actually FEEL the cables. The sheets are stained. The bathroom does not have a scale. The TV is so old that it takes 30+ seconds to turn on — — and this is not a joke, the bellhop even told me before hand because they must get so many complaints about the TV not working. The phone suffers from the same problem because you have to press a number and wait 2 seconds for it to dial it. Press again and so on. All services require 4 numbers at this hotel, so plan to wait. The phone further is so old that it crackles and sound cuts in and out. Please note that this is an upgraded room and I'm paying 400 Euros per night for it. The room overlooks the street and you can hear the street noise all day and night. This is Barcelona. There is no view though, so it's not like you're gaining one for the other. But the most insulting thing was the room service. I ordered a Caesar salad. The salad they brought had no cheese, no croutons, no romaine, no anchovies, and no Caesar dressing. Instead I got mixed greens with oil and vinegar.
Attended the APM Project Challenge event at this hotel. Ambience and setting was nice, and we had a great time. I think the Vegetable Pasta bake we had could have been a lot better. But they made up for it with the lovely desserts!
We had our own private room where we celebrated an engagement, welcomed by a lovely waitress who couldnt have been more helpful. The table was well decorated and the surrounds were beautiful. Food was fantastic and the overall experience was wonderful.
With a fantastic location at the most central part of Glasgow and amazing professional staff my stay was extremely enjoyable. The rooms were a little noisey however although I'm sure this can be expected with a hotel so close to a major city center train station. Will stay again.
Great location beside Gpasgow central train station, rooms very comfortable and clean all staff very friendly.
As I attended a professional event, my feedback is in relation to the service received by mostly hospitality staff. Everyone encountered was relatively pleasant and helpful, the food itself left a bit to be desired but all in all I had an enjoyable experience! :)
Stunning decoration, welcoming staff, food was outstanding. Would definitely return and would recommend to friends and family. Good public transport surrounding the hotel. Taxi rank outside as well as the Glasgow Central train station.
Amazing place! We booked the newly refurbished suites on the 5th floor and enjoyed every single second of our stay. Great value for money and right in the city centre.
I visited this week Monday to Wednesday and had actually quite a good time except for the fact that there was no ventilation in the room and it was not possible to open any window. What got me up the tree was that I forgot my (rather pricy) digital camera in my room and despite my efforts (several calls to a variety of people at the hotel) to get it back no one actually took ownership of the problem and I still don't know whether it had been found. This is very poor service.
I was very fortunate to be invited to dine in the Tempus Restaurant by my two friends who were staying overnight in the hotel, first of all we viewed their room which was 1st class, the dining experience was top class, only hiccup was a delay between the 1st and second courses however the quality of the food more than compensated for this as did the complimentary bottle of wine, many thanks for that. I have to commend the staff in this restaurant for their attention and personal service, especially Luke and many many compliments to the chefs, I would definately return and would recommend to friends. 10/10 guys well done.
Booked online asked for room at front as did not want to hear station tannoy early morning. Lady on reception accommodated my needs. Room was excellent. Breakfast vey good. Champagne bar busy but good service and quite reasonably priced. Great central location and magnificent hotel that oozes history. Only drops a star as there was little part of housekeeping missing which reception were very apologetic about. Would visit again.
Not worth arriving at/booking a room at this hotel if you want your room before the 3pm check in time. I'll know better next time. Some of the staff were very nice and helpful but this doesn't include the reception. Lovely hotel apart from the lack of facilities for early arrivals.
Extremely pleasant staff and well kept rooms with everything you need.
Got good deal and staff really nice. Worth it and will be back hopefully if pennies allow.
We held a Golden Wedding party at the hotel on Monday 22nd Dec 2014. Originally we planned the party at the Millennium in George Square (Our wedding reception Hotel 50 years ago) Owing to the disaster in George Square on that day, the event had to be diverted. Grand Central agreed to accommodate our 100 guests at less than 2 hours notice. They found an ideal function suite, and provided canapes and wines, exactly as originally planned. Plus PA system. They bought two big baloons reading '50' and other special items. Staff came from reception and the office to assist. The event was a great success and our guests were frankly amazed. We cannot speak highly enough of the helpfulness of all members of staff, including finding accommodation overnight for guests. Also a table for 19 family for dinner. Our family has been using the 'Central ' for over 70, years and we commend their function facilities without hesitation.
Stayed here for a working holiday. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the concierge who recommended some great local places to eat. Would definitely stay here again.
This was the hotel we stayed in after our wedding and we returned recently when out for a night in Glasgow (to escape a particularly rough week) and spontaneously decided not to go home so we checked in here! We managed to book a deal on my husband's phone for just £71 including breakfast. Staff were welcoming and friendly (we didn't get any funny looks or comments regarding checking in at midnight with no luggage, haha! ) and asked if we'd stayed with them before. I mentioned it being our wedding hotel and they welcomed us back asking when we got married, etc (I was having wishful thoughts of free upgrades but we were given a normal room). Our room was lovely (although obviously smaller than the large room we booked for our wedding which was before the suites were finished after the refurbishment in 2011) and a very good size with large wardrobes, usual coffee/tea making facilities and a good size bathroom with a bath. The room also had a bottle of complimentary sparkling water and 2 little Lily O'Brien's chocolates which is a nice touch. As we were about to make our way down to the bar to get some prosecco (to avoid the room service charge) there was a knock at our door and room service had brought us 2 glasses of pink fizz to welcome us back to the hotel! So lovely and very appreciated!
Attended a Christmas party night here. The function room was spectacular, the staff were very friendly and attentive. The band was great and the disco after was also good. The only reason why I am giving this a four star rating and not a five is that the food wasn't up to much, although to be fair, this is usually the way with hotel functions.
