Reviews of Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach 4*
Historic buildings/ great atmosphere, definitely for the “to do” list when visiting Waikiki.
Friendly service, gorgeous views, clean immaculate rooms.
Love love love this hotel! So memorable after 35 years of Marriott HOTEL travel! This was Awesome 10/10!
Dirty room and careless staffs. If you like the finer things in life this is not the hotel you stay at. The staff was careless, the room was dirty. Mention to reception and she doesn’t even care. The bathroom was disgusting which you would not expect for the Westin brand and for the price that we spent.
Hubby and I just stayed here for a week for our first trip to the island and had a wonderful experience. The whole staff was so friendly every time we ran into any of them, whole place was clean and the food was excellent. Great views! Be sure to sit on the rocking chairs on either the front or back porch to relax — it’s a great spot! Can’t wait to go back!
I'm so happy that we chose Moana Surfrider for our vacation Our room was perfect, the view was spectacular, we were overlooking the beach could listen to the waves all night long, The food was so absolutely delicious that I've even written to the restaurant asking for the name brand of the breakfast sausage they serve. AND the fact that they ACTUALLY ENFORCED COVID REQUIREMENTS made me feel safer, Thank you for insisting on seeing our vaccination cards each time we went into a bar or restaurant. We came home happy suntanned and safe. Please continue doing all that you do.
My stay at the Moana Surfrider on Waikiki Beach Hawaii was terrible, to say the least. We did everything we had to do for their requirements to eat at the restaurants at the resort. Entering into Hawaii on their safe travels website it states and shows a video of an at home Covid test that the state allows for entering a restaurant.
After arriving to the resort after about 15 hours of travel to the state with only a snack provided on the plane my family and I were very hungry. We went down to the restaurant after preforming the recommended at home covid test in our room, the state of Hawaii states on their website this is acceptable, my son and I were rudely asked to leave the table we sat down at because we were not vaccinated and did not have the right test done. We felt discriminated against by the demeanour of the restaurant manager. After leaving the restaurant we went to the front desk to talk to the hotel manager, she was very sympathetic in our experience, after explaining to her what had happened in the restaurant and NOTHING on the hotel policy, the state of Hawaii at home test, was not acceptable, she walked us over to the restaurant to speak to the restaurant manager in person with us. Before we could reach the restaurant manager she was already saying “No we could not dine there” to the hotel manager. We did not ask for the rudeness of the restaurant manager. When asked to leave the table we calmly got up and left like we were asked to do.
I booked a car service on their hotel website, paid in full. It was a scam and the hotel refused to help me. Admitted that most extras and excursions on their site are scams. Told me to dispute it with my credit card company and then they fought the dispute. I'm out the money and they are out a customer.
There are places in the world that make me happy and there are places like the Moana Surfrider that make everyone happy! This place is just like heaven, but nicer. Thanks for all the love and the wonderful time we are having. We will be here all this month, and maybe we will never leave!
Thanks Again!
-Roman.
My husband and I are staying here for two weeks and we couldn't be more pleased with the EXCELLENT customer service here. We feel like we are treated like royalty… from the great first interaction at the front desk with Steve, a great smile and friendly service from Nancy at the Beach Bar, a smile from each staff member we see, excellent service from all of the wait and bar staff, and being well taken care of by the housekeeping and bell staff we have thoroughly felt welcome here. We've had to travel during the pandemic and we felt service at the majority of the hotels we've stayed at in the US has been non — existent or poor. The general manager, Michael Czarcinski, and his staff should teach other hotels how customer service should be.
Great location, parking sucks, small suites. There were a ton of Covid restrictions and a lot of them made absolutely no sense. Service was decent but for the price paid, I expected a lot more. The hotel next door is not as classy but has way better service at a lower price point. My biggest complaint was that several times a day, we had to vacate our balcony and close the sliding glass doors due to insanely strong smell of marijuana blowing into our room and in the hallways. This was not isolated and happened several times per day every day that we were there. Security was prompt to respond but unable to pinpoint the location or source. Two tips: 1. Watch out for the crazy hobos that hang around on the Diamond head side of the property, they can be violent and poop on the sidewalk. 2. Stay on an even number floor so you can enjoy the ocean View while sitting on the balcony. Odd floors have a poorly thought out hunk of concrete that is not relaxing to stare at. I am not planning to stay here again, the Outrigger has better bang for the buck, better restaurants, better fellow guests, better suites and better, friendlier service.
Always have an amazing time here! Unfortunately they are using covid excuses to provide a poor service, for example by not opening back up their beach club lounge.
I have been wanting to stay here since the first timeI came to Hawaii in 2005. I remember seeing the beautiful southern style porch with rocking chairs that looked over the ocean. Just picturesque. The check in experience was horrible. The website and email from the resort stated to have the Travel Hawaii government QR code and government issued ID. My cousin and I brought those things. Upon our arrival we found that the Surfrider had its own special policy that required not only the QR code, but to be shown the info on our private pages to include what was below the QR code. The front desk woman would not accept the documents we provided to the state showing our negative covid tests, nor the QR code. The front desk agent handed us the state of Hawaii phone number. Ignoring all questions we had, then repeating to call the phone number she provided for the state website assistance. The front desk agent made me feel very unsafe. She denied our basic need for shelter. The desk agent belittled us by refusing any assistance except to provide a number. (We called the number an Viola, over an hour later finally got what the Moana required. ) I've received better service from Motel 6. I understand that covid is legit. I'm a front line healthcare worker (ER nurse). My cousin is also a healthcare worker (Pharmacist). Positive things: The property is beautiful. Fantastic views of Waikiki. The beds are super comfortable with soft yet sturdy sheets.
Very clean, staff is friendly.
Simply beautiful building in a stunning location.
We love visiting The Moana Surfrider. We've been coming here for almost 30 years and appreciate the wonderful hospitality we receive, in particular from the beach staff. Gloria Maestros has got to be the most wonderful, professional and kind person we've ever met there.
Thank you for all you do! Hope they appreciate you as much as we do!
My baggage didn’t make a connection flight so airline had to deliver to hotel. Confirmed with hotel at check in that once bag arrived they would bring to my room. About 20 minutes after airline confirmed it was delivered I called the front desk, they said bell desk said there had not been a delivery. I walked downstairs to bell desk, 5 guys standing around doing nothing, bag is right there between all of them. Didn’t even say anything as I grabbed the bag and walked away. Lazy poor customer service. This Titanium Elite member isn’t happy and won’t be back. To make it worse, checking took 15 minutes with only 3 people in front of us, room did not have a rollaway like we requested on reservation and rooms is uncomfortably hot.
We stayed at the Moana Surfrider during our honeymoon! The staff was amazing and very helpful! The architecture and history add to the charm of the resort. We loved every moment of our stay here! Highly recommend!
Fantastic location, friendly staff and stunning beachside restaurant.
Can’t say that every concierge was good. I knew that there were some deliveries for my birthday, and asked the front desk since I got a letter of the delivery. But the concierge who could speak Japanese didn’t check it, and he said he didn’t get any deliveries for me. And he threw away the paper. Two days later I asked the same guy again because I hadn’t gotten yet. He asked me if I threw away the envelop and I said yes cause the envelop had nothing written. My friend who got me deliveries described how they looked like and stuff even though they were supposed to be surprise. Finally I got them, but he NEVER said I’m sorry. He never admitted what he did. He was saying like it was MY FAULT that I didn’t got them on my birthday.
Except for that, I was satisfied with this place. Beautiful cozy hotel. But if I’m asked whether it was worth it, I might say both yes/no. The location was GREAT but too expensive for this? I was just so sad about that stuff I mentioned above.
Good location. Tiny room and noisy AC.
Very nice hotel being right on the beach.
Great security, awesome job.
I loved my stay at Moana Surfrider! Exceptional customer service. Housekeeping was impeccable. Veranda servers were friendly and very attentive. Gorgeous amenities and the walk out to the beach provided a breathtaking view that will forever remain in my memory! I didn’t want to leave. Thank you for making my vacation the absolute best!
I just arrived here and I already in love with the hotel. Very friendly staff and rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious.
I am sitting here on our 4th night in Waikiki. I am listening the the barrage and cacophony of the union workers of the Moana Surfrider who are currently on strike. There are no services provided by the hotel as a result of this strike action. We haven’t had our rooms cleaned all the time we have been here. We collect our own toiletries and towels from different floors. The restaurants are closed as well as the bar. It is beyond disappointing and we have been offered no compensation. We eat breakfast off plastic plates and food is brought in, hot food is cold by the time we eat it. It is a far cry from the holiday we dreamed of. I hope the Marriott group are going to do something to compensate their loyal customers. Very disappointing.
Moana surf rider is the oldest and first hotel in Waikiki and it’s the heart and center of it all. In June there’s Pan-Asian parade which starts at the front of the hotel and can experience various Native cultures. Moana Surfer has very friendly staff and concierge services. The porters and valet parking staffs are very accommodating and friendly. It’s very safe and convenient. The ABC store is located across the street from the hotel and the store carries snorkel kits and are very good quality and low price. Lots of Japanese weddings and photos are taken at the Moana Surfer Rider and it’s fun watch these destination weddings as they're dressed beautifully. The beach is just behind the hotel and has two restaurants and a pool under the beautiful giant Banyan tree and on one side there are rocking chairs to relax and the hotel serves guava water for self service. There’s a Honolulu coffee shop in the hotel and international market is just across the street and many fine restaurants near by and all are walking distance. Ride the pink double decker bus at the front of hotel it’s $2 and it goes around the perimeter of Waikiki and to Ala Moana shopping mall, make sure you go to the second level of the bus and you’ll feel the cool tropical breeze. Lastly Highly recommend Moana Surf Rider as the hotel is filled with rich history and so conveniently located at the center of Waikiki. Aloha.
My friend visited and she loves to people watch, we just sat in the rocking chairs out front and did exactly that, we both felt very welcome and it was a nice spot. We watched the street and then the beach side. 10/10 would reccomend if you like to people watch. It's a beautiful resort and I have a long history with them, long ago my family and I would go for afternoon tea. I was a child and caffeine would just not be smart to give to the little kiddies, so they would give us pots with guava juice and lemonade instead of tea. They are great on customer service! Also they have a beautiful setting!
Fantastic hotel in prime location. Do: shell out for a tower room with view on Waikiki beach. Website has good guide to show you the height of each room class. Also have an evening dinner under the banyan tree in the courtyard. This place it historic, soak it up! Gets crazy busy with Japanese weddings, you’ll see half a dozen a day rushing through the hotel lobby, doesn’t impact your stay particularly but it does mean the lobby is more of a thoroughfare than a tranquil place to chill!
If anybody is trying to find good deals on hotels visit HoteIBully. Com booked a hotel on there and they had the best rates anywhere! What a beautiful hotel! Love the lobby area, lots seating area with nice tropical style furniture. Nice balcony area with comfy chairs. Great place to people watching! They have their own beach front. Nice place to dine or just sit back and relax. The view is just gorgeous! There is also a pool right before you walk down to the beach.
This was my first time ever in Hawaii. This Westin Resort is a great place to stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is great for going to the beach and shopping at the local stores. The beach bar near the pool and beach is great. There is also live entertainment in the courtyard. There is also historical landmark called the Banyan Tree. Very beautiful. I will recommend this place to family and friends. I hope I am someday able to return.
A fantastic hotel with luxury & relaxing features. Will be back for sure❤️ strongly recommend.
Third stay, but never again. It all started to go pear-shaped at check-in. This took 30 minutes, with one clerk packing up at 1pm (shift over presumably), and leaving without a replacement despite the long line of guests waiting for service. Afternoon tea on the Veranda was nice, but we had almost finished the tea by the time the food arrived, 20 minutes later! Getting a coffee from the little stand near in the Banyan Tree Courtyard was like extracting teeth. They were obviously having problems with the computer system because two of them couldn't work out how to use it. One walked away exasperated and left the other poor sod to deal with the guests. 20 minutes to get coffee, oh dear, oh dear. The final straw was breakfast on the Veranda. Lovely location, but 45 minutes for a couple of poached eggs on toast, particularly when the place is not full, was a first world problem we would not put up with when the eggs finally arrived under-cooked & swimming in cold water. Bacon & toast cold of course. A complaint to the restaurant manager got us a few " sorry sir" comments, but he was so non-plussed it was obvious he has heard it all before. We walked out to the cheers of a table of 8 who had waited an hour for their meals. A sad excuse for a 5 Star hotel. Staff training needs a lot of work, and perhaps more kitchen & front office staff might be a good idea. At check-out they tried to charge us an additional USD33 "daily resort fee". Not a chance mate!
My wife and I had the Afternoon Tea on the Verandah and words cannot describe how wonderful it was! We’ve had High Tea in quite a few places around the world and this is up there with the best. The view is out of this world!
Beautiful hotel and beach bar. Disappointed that a hotel of this calibre serves cocktails in plastic cups. We went back a few times and each time plastic cups. Just wanted my mai tai in glass.
Great stay thanks to the staff at the Moana for making our stay in Waikiki relaxing and enjoyable, special call out to Nancy at the pool side bar who has looked after my family now during out three visits, also celebrating her 29 years of service.
We had afternoon tea, a tradition my mother-in-law started when we would visit her in Honolulu. It was fantastic. I am a little-taste-it-all kinda girl so having five different tea sandwiches and five different desserts is perfect (all petit in size so you don't get stuffed). Our amazing waiter brought out our hot tea that we got to choose from an array of flavors, but then he brought us glasses filled with ice and a scoop of sorbet to try the teas iced. This isn't on the menu but it should be — it was incredible! The sorbet complimented the tea perfectly, and since it was hot and humid the iced tea was very welcomed. We will definitely be back for our traditional afternoon teas every time we are in Honolulu.
My family stayed here for 10 days… Awesome hotel charming, classy and elegant. View from our room was beautiful, customer service are above and beyond from vallet parking to hotel room services… Nothing you could ask for… Swimming pool is small but you could always walk and see the beach just right on the corner. It is truly a wonderful experience for our family and highly recommended to everyone.
Wonderful historic local that has two gorgeous dining options. First, the fancier restaurant in the patio (called the Veranda for breakfast/lunch and Beach Bar for dinner). The dishes are exquisitely composed and perfectly cooked. The lower restaurant (Beach Bar) has great food as well for a bit cheaper prices. The cocktails for two are a great deal and especially well suited for an evening on the beach.
Would not recommend Moana surf rider was def not what I was expecting after paying $5000 for 2 weeks! Well where do I start? Firstly we got checked into our room which was tiny and very out dated does not look like anything in the photos very deceiving. Secondly when we entered our room there was a foul smell like damp/mould. I thought the smell would pass but it didn’t on our second night I actually realised we were sleeping in a DOUBLE bed when we booked and paid for a KING. The room were very poorly looked after house keeping staff did not clean the rooms as they should been. We then complained about this all to the manager Michael which was nice enough to move us to the other side of the resort with a KING bed he also sent us a basket with cookies champagne chocolate and chips and drinks which was nice. But as the days went by I noticed the room that we got upgraded to was very poorly cleaned by house keeping. Hair left all over the bathroom floor urine still left on toilet seat. My mouthwash rinse wasn’t topped up. Floors weren’t vacuumed. Prior to this we stayed at the Hyatt highly recommend this place had no problems rooms were much bigger an rooms were very clean. Def not returning to the Moana was not was I was expecting after paying that amount of money.
Fantastic place to visit and the staff and service there could not be better. We only stayed 7 days but we wished we stayed longer. Very clean and Tidy all throughout the resort. There is always someone there to help even for the minor questions you may have and always very helpful. The most comfortable bed I have ever slept on and plenty of PowerPoints in the room (which is a must for me). We will definitely be back to visit and hopefully stay longer next time. The place itself is absolutely spectacular as soon as you walk into the building there are beautiful stairs and chandelier even just to view from walking past Everything is so original and in prestige condition. Once again thank you for our enjoyable stay there Moana. Regards, Sim Marshall.
I held my wedding reception at the Surfrider at the ballroom upstairs. Kelly Striph was our coordinator and she did a fabulous job helping us plan the wedding. We opted for a lunch buffet. All our guests loved the food and still rave about how delicious it was. The atmosphere for the wedding was romantic, intimate, and had a lovely vintage flair. We highly recommend having a wedding here.
Stayed here during a work conference. Friendly and helpful staff, room was clean. I really liked how close it wasnto everything. In waking distance to many attractions. Would strongly recommend to anyone wanting to stay at a nice place on the beach with great views.
Went for a conference, it was very busy but the staff was nice and helpful throughout the painful long check-in process due to the sheer volume of attendees. Beautiful beachfront view and beach access, 5 stars for that. I took off a star for the inability to book me and wife in a king and got put in a double, even though my reservation was for a king bed booked months in advance. Food at the beach bar was mediocre but not terribly overpriced like some restaurants. The room has all the amenities but is small. Overall great stay and would likely. Book again if the price was right.
The hotel is very noisy at night.
Wonderful resort hotel. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Right on the beach and easy to get to. Classic hotel styling but modernized rooms. Good restaurants and Beach Club lounge.
Awesome vacation experience from beginning to end. Great beach bar. Great food. Great surfing. Great live music. Great views of diamond head. The housekeeping staff were very attentive and anticipated any needs. Sorry to leave but will definitely return. This hotel is right in the center of everything.
Unique and magical. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our time at Waikiki’s first lady. Romance and history abound at this beautiful Victorian era hotel right on Waikiki beach. Fell in love with the magnificent Indian banyon tree around which all activity here centres. The fireworks for the Honolulu festival over the ocean beat any we had ever seen. Top tip — Be sure to take the free historic tour. It is a must do!
Great spot. Pool is small, so don't come expecting a giant pool complex. Good fitness center. Great staff, great location overall. The evening noise from Duke's next door can be annoying but it isn't disruptive. Overall, a very good choice. Close to shopping and restaurants.
Great great staff. They were all insightful, helpful and friendly. The food at the various restaurant was amazing. Very very nice location right on the beach.
I am halfway through my stay at the Moana. We come for around 10 days every other year with a group. Every visit we have found the staff, all the staff very friendly helpful and pleasant to deal with. There is a time limit on empty sunloungers of an hour so even if you put your towel on one if you don't use it or there is not a body on it after an hour you forfeit the sunloungers and it is free for anyone to use and I have observed the staff acting on this policy. It is a beautiful hotel and I think the best along the strip and wouldn't stay anywhere else. It is the price that it is so your choice if you pay for the great position or not, most hotels anywhere charge a resort/service fee on top of room rates. Our room is lovely and clean, beds very comfortable. We have use of the Beach Club (which is part of our resort fee) and the staff are beautiful and the food fabulous. We will definitely be coming back and will highly recommend the Moana to anyone!
Fabulous as usual. Probably our 20th stay. Staff fantastic. Incredible view. Kat and Lilian and Dina are superb at the beach bar. Make you feel very welcome. Love spending time at the Banyan Court. Great entertainment. We’ll be back!
Beautiful hotel, but wish the customer service was better. Banyan wing city view room was nice, but tight with 2 suitcases. The street noise did not bother us and the location was central, just wish we were treated better. Be warned, if you do not book directly through them, you may not receive your selected room choice, because you used a 3rd party. I didnt realize getting 2 double beds would be so difficult, but it was nearly impossible because I used a travel agent. Also, the elevator keep going down "for service. " If anyone your traveling with has mobility issues using the staff elevator is difficult.
Majestic Atrium also from the beach side rooms of low level completely to modernize and rumorosissime bad value for money.
It's all about the atmosphere here. Sipping cocktails under a Banyan Tree that's a living historical landmark, listening to live music. Cocktail was good, but overpriced (no surprise given the location). The singer was good and entertaining. Atmosphere suffered by the almost closed ceiling provided by dozens of square beach umbrellas, so there were only a few seats where you could actually see the beautiful tree. Further BIG '-' are the flimsy plastic cups your cocktail is served in. Definitely expected more. If they want to prevent glass breaking, there are nice break-resistant 'glasses' out there in any shape and size. It's mostly nostalgia and potential that makes me give 3* instead of 2
Great historic hotel — first one at the Waikiki beach. Rooms in the original complex rather on a small side — were built in 1901. The new tower features much more spacious rooms with balconies. Wonderful courtyard centered around a 100+ yo banyan tree. Cool verandas, lounge areas, and pool. Very friendly staff. Nice SPG lounge!
The price is good for a hotel. Our server, Ryan was very nice and friendly. Foods are all quite good. Especially the scallops of the appetizer are amazing! Must try! But the desserts are just average. Nice dining experience at Beach House of Moana Surf rider! :)
Excellent place and super well located.
Classic Hotel in Waikiki. We ate in The Veranda, and it was very excellent. The tea, a mixture of the house, was very good.
The history of the… MOANA Surfrider to WESTIN Resort. Friendship and good taste always lasts in time Gràcies Marcel.
Overpriced. Parking not even in the same building. When you pull up to the front door you can’t use the luggage cart unless you pay for a bellhop to assist you. Extra fees for everything. We reserved a king size bed but was given a room with two full size beds. With only 2 elevators working we had to wait in line for 15 mins just to get up to our room. Every person we dealt with on the hotel side was rude. Only saving grace were the dining facilities. Food was very tasty and good sized portions and the restaurant staff was attentive without being overbearing.

RespondWe went for lunch a High Tea. It was absolutly incredible. The food and service were as incredible as the view. Such an amazing afternoon. We loved that they had a children's option for tea as well. My 4yr old son absolutly loved it. The hotel is beautiful and we saw several brides while we were walking around.
$14 Mai Tai on the beach accompanied by nice music at night. Tasty st on drinks, attentive staff even when packed. Great ambiance. Take your drinks to the rocking chairs and people watch for a good time.
If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. Com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around… Beautiful Hotel, staffed with friendly, helpful people. My wife and I will definitely be returning soon. The beach was stunning at the location as well. I would reccomend spending a little more to get a room on the beach side, as the noise from people in front of the hotel was much louder than what I expected. It is an older hotel with a rich history, but don't expect it to be particularly sound insulated.

Went for drinks and a late night snack. Music and ambiance were very nice. Prices were high for what you get but I would still go back since it's such a pretty place. It has gorgeous trees that they light up at night and or table was right by the beach.
Its now been about 3 years since we were here last, (man how times fly) and if anything this place has just gotten even better this time around, the service, the view, the breakfast, the people, it's all just so wonderful and there is no way to beat the location, location, location, right in the heart of Waikiki in the middle of a beautiful beach, and the heart of the city, all there is to say is save up a little extra and stay here, it's way worth it, the history, the feel, man we love Hawaii and this is just all the goodness in one place. Can't wait to come back again. (Hopefully sooner then last time)
We enjoyed our stay at Honolulu and the Moana Surfrider was a great place centrally located. The staff was great and the breakfast is really good. Will definitely be back next time we come to Hawaii. A friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint.
Updated: Aug 2, 2017 I talked with John Osorio, Bar and Restaurant manager. He was very nice and listened to my complaint. He apologized on behalf of the rude employee. He made my stay better with generous gifts. If you have any concern during your stay, you can contact him directly. — — — Aug 1, 2017 I would give 5 stars if the bills from all the service in the hotel does not have a greedy slogan "Quality Service is customarily acknowledged with a 15% — 20% gratuity/tip. " I find this is a greedy message because the rule is 10% tip is an acknowledgement for excellent service. The hotel is elegant. A lot of tourists take photos right in front. The check in process was easy with a 5 star quality service. I got an upgrade with an extra charge but I don't mind at all. The food and drink are delicious even though the price is expensive compares to other restaurants and bars in the area. The room is a bit small unless you book a deluxe suite. All the staff is friendly except, again, tip greediness from a day time valet parking personnel. The lounge chairs and umbrellas are not free. $55/day for a pair of lounge chairs and an umbrella. $110/day for the gazebo. There is $35/day charge for surcharge which includes Wi-Fi and long distance. You can be $14/day for a faster speed. Even though there is no sign said no closing eyes allowed nor no sleeping allowed in the Beach Bar, an employee, Sheryl, rudely came up to my mother and told her "You cannot sleep!
I did not stay in the hotel, but I took the appetizer in their outdoor sea garden. Wonderful. Music and just people.
Beach bar has a great vibe, view, and vittles! I was there 3 times. Always liked the music variety — groups change at 8 pm. Servers are personable. Dinner at Veranda was pricey and not memorable. I had the short ribs and pasta. Suggest you try something else. Thumbs up for the Beach Bar.
Shot a wedding here for the first time and the venue is very beautiful. The time are elegant and I really like the shift teal color of the rooms. The courtyard in the neck is very picturesque and makes for an open but still intimate environment. The did was pretty good too. My only gripe is their parking options, with all my camera gear. Walking to and from parking garage across the street kinda sucks. Other than that, great venue.
Very nice hotel. Great location.
Excellent location on Waikiki beach and absolutely amazing service. I checked out but had a very late flight and they held my bags and offered a courtesy room to allow me to enjoy the day and have somewhere to come and shower/prepare for my flight. Awesome hotel!
Fantastic food with an unbeatable view. The mango BBQ bacon burger was amazing and my wife and I shared a massive hula pie. Took a little while for a server to start serving our table, but once that happened, everything was great. Took a walk through the museum upstairs afterward while listening to a talented musician in the lobby. Would recommend.
My go-to hotel when I'm local in town. It's in the middle of everything, great location. Old school colonial vibe, very relaxing. The beach bar is tops and the bartenders are pros. Don't expect to wake up and surf if drinking here. It simply won't happen. I've tried numerous times. Every time I'm here I sleep in. No complaints. Comfort level is supreme. RIP alarm clock. Zzzz.
Hotel is beautiful! Best in Waikiki! We are in the Diamond wing, room is small but nice. The walls are thin! So if you are a light sleeper stay in the tower, its new and quiter. Food and drinks are good and expensive but the general feel of hotel is quite and chilled out.
If you're trying to find a really great deal on this amazing hotel I'd highly suggest booking it through the website HotelRaven. Com They have great deals for it on there! Such a perfect place don't have enough great things to say! The location could not be much more perfect if you want to be on Waikiki, right in the center. Definitely one of the nicer hotels on Waikiki, up there with the Royal Hawaiian and others. They make one of the best Mai Tai's around, do not forget to try one. There are several different sections to the hotel, should you get a room that is not satisfactory don't hesitate the call and see if you can switch as it seems different areas are in very different levels of disrepair.

My family and I went there for breakfast. Since the service was held outdoors, we thought we would see birds everywhere. We didn't and that was a good thing because my wife and daughter are afraid of birds, especially bug infested birds. Food was great, but wished there were more items to select from. The staff there were courteous and friendly.
Drinks at the beach bar at night. Really peaceful. They did have a guy performing technically decent but annoyingly low-key acoustic versions of, like, old rock songs (think the Eagles, the Police, CCR). I had a really delicious drink called something with "1989" in the name.
One of my favorite hotels in Waikiki. Expensive but classic. The banyon courtyard is a great place to relax and grab a (very over priced) drink while watching the waves crash.
Attended afternoon tea service with a friend for the first time. It was absolutely lovely! Great service, awesome view, yummy food and tea. I would love to return and do it again.
The Moanna Surfrider, a Westin Resort is an iconic Hawaiian and Hotel. She is appropriately and lovingly nicknamed as the great lady of Waikiki. Walking towards this landmark of a hotel and admiring the wooden rocking chairs upon the veranda as you arrive brings to mind memories of a golden era of travel where things were simple yet much more sophisticated. The smiling faces and graciously given feeling of Aloha made my senses pique with excitement and anticipation as I walked into the hotel via the bustling Porte cochere and admired both visually and aromatically the flora and fauna of Hawaii I thought to myself what else could they possibly think of to make my already perfect arrival experience better than it already is, as I glanced forward and saw the grandeur of the Pacific ocean immediately in front of the hotel calling to me. My arrival experience is one that I shall always cherish and remember and I look am sincerely looking forward to my next delight at the Moana Surfrider a Westin Resort &Spa on Saturday.
We don't have the Moana Surfrider Restaurant Restaurant a hint of weakness. Meals weight enough, the smell Delicious, the service was very good, in fact, okay to let the second night again. I just want to say again, this is Hawaii mutual's oldest hotel, built in 1901 year. The bottom floor of this hotel. Brilliant historical presentation. Remember to come Oh, you won't be disappointed!
Just stopped in for the surfrider tai — their signature mai tai — good drink, great view of beach.
Always good, friendly service and wonderful live music in the evening. The locations is perfect for watching the sunset and the drinks are strong. I enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and sanctuary from the busy street!
Beautiful hotel with a staff that doesn't seek to delight it's customers. SPG staus isn't really respected. 3 building. The oldest one, from 1901, has very small rooms. The Diamond Tower beach front, and tower building Diamondhead view, are great.
The resort and hotel itself was amazingly beautiful. The pool and cocktail areas were great especially for catching a sunset on Waikiki. But getting a cocktail was slightly painful.
Acclaimed historic hotel on Waikiki beach, I can honestly say that, while beautiful, the "resort" is lacking in class in both rooms and customer service. My husband and I, both well-traveled, are currently staying for 3 nights at the Moana Surfrider in a "City View King" after staying at the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore in an ocean view premier King for 5 nights. We were hoping to book an ocean front room here as well; however, none were available at the time of our booking months ago due to the busy holiday travel. We thought "oh, it'll be fine, we will just be in the room to sleep anyway. " Boy, were we mistaken in our judgment. We happily checked into the hotel and made our way to our "historic" room in the main part of the hotel. After stepping out of the elevator, we found that our room was directly next to the elevator door. Uh oh. That's never a good sign for what's to come — noise level will be high and the rooms closest to the elevator bank are usually smaller. What we found was a room that was no bigger than our walk in closet at home, a typical and expected city view, and a bathroom that was so small it didn't have any countertops! We had to leave our toiletries, hairbrush, etc sitting on the top of the toilet! SERIOUSLY?! How's a girl supposed to get ready for dinner when she has no place to set her hair tools?
We went there too attend the free wine and yoga events. It was awesome. Same side of the building looks amazing and the courtyard where we did our yoga was nice and breezy.
Got one of the best rooms here — it was fairly small for two people, but we didn't spend much time in the room anyways. Loved the beach, and learned to surf too!
This place is terrible! Having heard great reviews, my brother stayed here to propose to his girlfriend of 5 years. They flew all the way to Hawaii and were so excited to stay here so he could secretly propose. Their room was broken into when they were out and all of their valuables, INCLUDING THE ENGAGEMENT RING were stolen from their room. After my brother engaged with police, the hotel was extremely unhelpful with th investigation and were unapologetic and unhelpful to my poor brother. Stay away from this place!
The Beach Bar is the perfect stop while strolling Waikiki. We arrived on an uncrowded Monday and found a shaded table next to the bar overlooking the beach. Our server was attentive and friendly. The chi chi was great (perfectly blended). Was the drink expensive? Well considering the perfect location and view, shade, good service, live music and competent bartender, no way. Unfortunately the food was more than I cared to spend. A must for a Waikiki afternoon. Sit down, get a drink or two, enjoy the view of the beach, and eat elsewhere.
This hotel was nice the best part was meeting GSA-Brandee. We had a few mishaps but the hotel management made up for them. I would stay here again thanks to how Brandee took a negative experience and turned it around!
Great place to stay in the heart of it all … Right on the beach. Vey busy with a Weddings every day Nice bar and gorgeous Banyan tree out back & the Ocean.
For me, the Best! Rooms small, but better does not go!
I absolutely love this beautiful and romantic hotel! I recommend it to many families and friends! I look forward to my next stay! Mahalo.
Beautiful hotel but room is way to small for the cost. Cleaners were brilliant as they gave me extra coffee when asked. The outside area is beautiful but the pool area is so small and with limited sunbeds so it can be difficult to get a bed at times. You get the usual ones who put their towels down and clear off though the pool staff try to put a 1 hour time limit on this. I took great pleasure in telling them if towels had been down over that limit :-). They have their own private area at the beach but you have to pay a fortune for that, seems a bit rough when there's limited space at the pool. Never ate at the hotel, always at other places. Lulu's about 10minutes walk do beautiful very affordable meals.
Just checked in on 6/6/15. Great looking hotel. Great service from the desk and room service. Not sure about the food. Bed is amazing. Room is way too small. No microwave for guest to use? Seriously? Rent one? For $250 a night I can't even get a microwave? Oh wait a minute. There was one more thing I didn't mention. A bed bug crawling up my jammies on my 2 am visit to the bathroom. I am asking for a room change when the hubby wakes up. I know they are everywhere but for this price I better not see them.
Spent 8 days at the Surf-rider and had the best time. A beautiful hotel in an ideal location. The staff were friendly and the room comfortable. Will definitely be back. :-).
Tiny rooms. Uber comfortable bed.
Great place to stay be warned wakiki is very expensive if you want to save $ you need to off the beach and go where the locals go.
Free nights w/SPG points. First night we got small room, next day we got upgraded to bigger room on SPG floor. Will definitely be back to this hotel. Right on the beach, pool, mini restaurant, awesome place to enjoy your vacation.
A booking was made in October for myself and my mother partner and mytwo teenage kids to celebrate a magnificent NYE with you at Moana Surfrider Wesin at Hawaii. We had a terrible expeience. Our reservation was for 9.45pm which I confimed during the day from Hawaii. We were told to arrive at 9, 30pm. When we did there was no reservation despite having a confirmation number. We were seted on a table in the lobby. Not near the fabulous festivities or band. It was really bad we felt like an after thought. I was devastated as this ws to be a pecial night for mum especially given that we have rently and suddenly lost our father in australai to heart failure. I asked for a change of table and was told no sorry bad luck we are over booked. I was sad so I asked for the manager and he said he was too busy to help and that I had to accept the table. I started crying as I was so disappointed with his response. My waiter felt so sorry for us he made up a table with two couches inside in the other dining area and put decorations on it. Even he said it was such a shame. He gave us a free glass of champagne. The Manager nver came back to us. When the bill came I was charged $1107 USD which I thought was a lot given my kids are aged 14 and 17 and dont drink. He said he could not help with that. So I paid it and we watched the fireworks and left. We never heard the band or danced as there was no opporunity.
Spent a week there in August; the week the huricanes blew into the Islands. The room was great, the food excellent, and the service fantastic. Located in the heart of Honolulu, we intend on going back next year.
We had a good time, especially Kristel Fury — she was so fun and she taught me how to do yoga, every day at 10 am we had exercise in the pool. The best and most brilliant teacher! Royal xx.
Worst Bloody Mary I have ever had and in a short rocks glass for $12.50 Wow! Shame on you Beach bar. You have one of the most beautiful spots on the Waikiki coastline and I guess you need to have your guests pay for it.
The beds are the best ever! The bathrooms were great! Rain showers heads and hand held ones. The shopping is all within walking distance. Get the rooms towRd the beach though. We had one facing the street the first night and it was loud. Moved to beach views and it was awesome.
Best bed I have ever slept in, we stayed in two different rooms and both times we were absolutely in awe. If I could find out what type of mattresses you have that would be great. Here we are a year later and still talking about those beds.
