I have been wanting to stay here since the first timeI came to Hawaii in 2005. I remember seeing the beautiful southern style porch with rocking chairs that looked over the ocean. Just picturesque. The check in experience was horrible. The website and email from the resort stated to have the Travel Hawaii government QR code and government issued ID. My cousin and I brought those things. Upon our arrival we found that the Surfrider had its own special policy that required not only the QR code, but to be shown the info on our private pages to include what was below the QR code. The front desk woman would not accept the documents we provided to the state showing our negative covid tests, nor the QR code. The front desk agent handed us the state of Hawaii phone number. Ignoring all questions we had, then repeating to call the phone number she provided for the state website assistance. The front desk agent made me feel very unsafe. She denied our basic need for shelter. The desk agent belittled us by refusing any assistance except to provide a number. (We called the number an Viola, over an hour later finally got what the Moana required. ) I've received better service from Motel 6. I understand that covid is legit. I'm a front line healthcare worker (ER nurse). My cousin is also a healthcare worker (Pharmacist). Positive things: The property is beautiful. Fantastic views of Waikiki. The beds are super comfortable with soft yet sturdy sheets. The room set up with fridge and coffee maker is nice. Needs a microwave though. Overall, this is my first and LAST time staying here. It did not meet expectations. Nor does the price compare with the other water front hotels with similar amenities. Save some money and stay at the Outrigger next door.
