I had a good taste drink as hotel's service. I enjoyed to stay here economically in Sassi di Matera. In case of an experience more Sassi I need, I can choose more expensive room or other expensive hotels. It is convince for sightseeing because of near Civita. I arrived here from Bari airport by bus and walk. In case of going to Bari Centrale station, Matera Sud station is easier than Matera Centrale station. In case of having bigger baggage, walking is very very hard because of too many steps and slopes. Regarding this subject, the hotel staffs adviced me by email.

When we first arrived to Le Dodici Lune we could not believe out eyes. The hotel is built into old caves in Stassi Caveoso and is a truly remarkable place. Our “room” was absolutely massive with a large bathroom too. The cave was amazing upon entry. The breakfast buffet was also very nice. However, the problem came at night when we got into bed and realized all the bedding was damp from the humid atmosphere in the cave. This was with 2 dehumidifiers and 3 air cons running. We got through the first night but when it came to the second night we were very happy we were only having a short stay because the second night the bed felt even more damp and both nights the pillows and bedding smelled like cheese. It made the stay very uncomfortable overall. It should also be noted that if you have any mobility issues it would be impossible to stay here as there are many stairs and a long walk required to get there. I realized I booked a room that was in a cave so perhaps it’s my fault for not anticipating the dampness but it came as a shock to me the room was so uncomfortable. We would not stay here again because of this and would not recommend this place.

We loved everything about this place. Very nice and helpful staff, beautiful room, great location. We also booked a cooking class and wine tasting at the hotel. Sadly the cooking class got canceled, but we really enjoyed the wine tasting and learned a lot!

— When using the fan in the bathroom there is the fan motor inside the room which made the room a bit hot.

What an amazing experience to spend 2 nights in the Sassi of Matera in this charming property tastefully restored with finesse.
We had an excellent stay for 2 nights with a family of 5 persons and we appreciated the quality of the accommodation and the high-quality service, including a delicious breakfast. Ideally situated in the old part of Matera. We had a family room for 5 persons, built in the Sassi. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back again given the very good experience we had. We truly recommend.

Charming stay in a central location with a beautiful courtyard. Room 31 is across the courtyard from reception. The cave room was spacious and clean. No mildew or mold that our allergies detected. Very quiet at night. Staff was friendly and helpful. Once you get a handle on the city’s layout, the hotel is rather easy to find. Worth spending an overnight to experience the beauty of the city.

A great location in the heart of the Sassi overlooking the main square and the sasso cavasso. Maria Teresa was an exceptional welcoming host who spoke English as well as Italian. And of course her adorable dog Charlie!
The breakfast was deliscious! We stayed in room 25 which had a spa jacuzzi — highly recommend this room. Especially after walking up and down steps this is a welcoming relaxation:)
We drove and the closest and most affordable place to park is Rocco Scotellaro. About a ten minute walk in. We were there in the first week of October and it was 28C the evenings were cool. Make sure to have a cocktail in the evening at the ZIPA Cafe, a drink house in Matera that features stone lounges set amongst the rooftops and terraces in the ‘Sassi’.

We had an absolutely fabulous stay here! We booked the suite and the room was beautiful inside — it had the atmosphere of a cave room, but was also very clean and modern — the jacuzzi bath was amazing! The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and packed us a delicious breakfast for our early morning flight. Would definitely recommend!

Matera was really amazing! Everyone should experience staying in a “cave”hotel while in Matera. Le Dodici Lune did not disappoint. The rooms were spacious, clean and design well-thought of but did not compromise comfort. Climbing with big luggages in cobbled stone pathways made it difficult but it was worth it! Staff were friendly and very accommodating. I highly recommend this quaint hotel in Matera! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Enchanting structure, in the heart of the Caveoso stone.
Comfortable, spacious and extremely suggestive rooms, entirely carved into calcarenite.
Relaxing and familiar atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
We will definitely come back at the first opportunity.
