If I could give Comera Residence 10 stars, I would. The location is fantastic, situated in the heart of the Sassi but on a road which makes access very easy. You can see Santa Maria de Idris from the building and it's one of the closest attractions, just down the road and up some steps. The walk to the cathedral is maybe 10 minutes and the newer end of town is max 15 minutes at a dawdle. Francesco was very communicative, polite, friendly and helpful. He met me when I arrived early and showed me how to access the building, which feels super secure (a worry for me as a solo traveller). The room was immaculate and newly refurbished. Everything worked perfectly and even better than at home. The shower was so powerful and the hairdryer was salon-quality which is rare. The facilities in the room were all very high spec, and everything felt luxurious, especially the bath in the main room! I wanted to work on my novel while I stayed in Matera and I can confirm the Wi-Fi is strong and stable. The bed was so comfy and the room was pleasantly cool. Thoroughly recommend the restaurant opposite. I sat there for hours working my way through Aperol spritzes (£6) and eating the most delicious food (recommend the pistachio pesto pasta) (£11). Amazing value! For anyone flying in to Bari, my tip would be to buy a bus ticket to Matera in advance because it's the cheapest and quickest way to reach the city. I bought my ticket on the Omio app and showed my QR code to the driver, all very easy.
