Unfortunately, the room details are not communicated correctly. Only the suites look like in the pictures. The standard rooms are quite normal, not in the grotto as shown in the pictures. What a pity… It was not even possible to change the room. We were rather taken in all this annoyingly.

A great way to experience the sassi of Matera. Was it worth €250 a night in August? No, not really, but still a fun and unique hotel to stay at. It is in the heart of old town Matera with plenty to see and do nearby. The roads are very small and parking is only for the locals. After to unload your guests and luggage you have to park back in town and walk 10 minutes to get back. That’s pretty normal in Italy though. The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast was normal for an Italian hotel. The showers need some work.

Hotels in the optimal position to visit Sasso Caveoso. Very particular and suggestive. The room I got to stay in was very spacious and bright and with bathroom of which I greatly liked the cleanliness. Have a good breakfast.

Very nice Hotel it is quaint for sure to prefer to others in my room however I have a night buzz to seriously undermined my sleep but I think it is just a trivial something that has already been repaired The international breakfast however everything is except international Croissants at gts3281 but nothing that much we would go back without problems but I can't say it's better than the other hotels in Matera for the simple reason that it's the only one I've been.

Beware. Heater broke in one of our three rooms and the hotel will not reimburse us. Also, charged us for an extra bed we did not order, then took it from our room, charged someone else for it, and will not take it off our bill.

Matera is a wonderful place to visit and Caveoso is a must place to stay!
They have the best localization ever, magnific rooms and the best team. <3

Hotel in the middle of Sasso Caveoso, a great location for those who want to stay in the Sassi area, then in the old part of town. All the main places of interest can be reached on foot: it is in front of the church of S. Pietro Caveoso, at the foot of the knoll of the Church of Idris, all the narrow streets lead back to the city, with a maximum of 10-15 min walk.
Good breakfast, not very wide choice, marginal the salty option.
Junior Suite very features, wonderful the panoramic view, but related to the price should present a greater care for details (dust in some corner, toilet table faded, towels not very white, little balcony Lisa with Some small hole). The sky channels are not seen, only those in clear efficient private parking service (fee: 20 €/day) with pick-up and return car in front of the hotel. Reception at the front desk not particularly friendly.

Characteristic place, good for one night stay. When we arrived the girl at reception was very good, next morning the man at breakfast and check out was not in a good mood. Rooms clean and comfortable, no amenity in the bath as usual Italian hotels. Only shampoo and a small soap. Breakfast OK, no car park at hotel because in the old part of the city, but very close to reach by car for drop the luggages. One minute walk from Piazza San Pietro.

Nice staff, good breakfast, clean rooms, the only flaw are the limestone ceilings that crumble.

Four stars because the location, views, etc are amazing. Room and bathroom spacious, comfortable and clean. However staff were the least helpful we found in the whole of Italy. Our taxi driver was more friendly and enthusiastic!

The place is very nice, but maybe it would take some more foresight. Entering a room in the rock and having to turn on only at that moment the dehumidifier is completely unacceptable.

The Hotel is amazing! Breathtaking even… I will not give a 5 Star because I think that the Hotel can offer more attention or a better service at the reception. Otherwise I can only confirm that everything is very fine. Location is great and everything is within a walking distance, the Parking, good restaurants as well as both Sassi parts of Matera (Sassi Barisano und Sassi Caveoso). The Breakfast is excellent as well.

Great place to stay in the heart of the Sassi. Abundant and delicious spread for breakfast with a coffee bar.
Well stocked with wine and beer for drinking on the patio or inside.
Our room was humid but is built into the side of a mountain. Be aware of this possibility if that is a problem for you.
Several bars and restaurants within a short block. The new town 10-15 minutes on foot.
Matera is incredible and our stay at the Caveoso made it all the better.

We visited Matera for a day and stayed overnight at the Caveosso in the middle of a visit to friends in Calomezzati, a couple of hours away. Matera is supposedly one of the longest continually inhabited towns in the world and we thought it would be worth a visit. We booked the Caveosso as it is mostly built into the caves — as is most of the town — and it is in the older, original part of Matera. Just getting a car down the narrow, winding streets was a feat in itself! If you drive to the hotel, please take care! Once in the hotel we were greeted by the Italian Basil Faulty, he bumbled about and lost his pen and generally made us smile with his laid back, Mediterranean attitude. We all managed to check in though, and made our way to our rooms in the caves and they were fabulous! Hotel rooms hewn out of the very rock! They were generally open plan with a separate shower and all were different! Because of the nature of the rooms, they had dehumidifiers that need to be emptied every few hours, as the water simply seeps through the rock. Breakfast the following morning though, was typically Continental, with breads and conserves etc and a small bowl of cornflakes but no hot food. All in all, a very memorable visit!

The hotel is nice but the staff has not been satisfactory because I booked a room and without warn me I replaced it with another.

The cave room is particular, but struck me really very friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast.

A wonderful place in a city that seems stuck in the past. The bedrooms maintain the charm of the past, but with the comforts of our time. Each one is a cave, but with electricity, hot water and free Wi-Fi. Upon awakening, it seems incredible to be there. Owners are very nice and give a breakfast with much love and rich flavors.
