The bartenders and wait staff are exceptional. Jamie did an outstanding job with the entire evening. Food was great and the unexpected music made it all worth while. I recommend it to anyone looking for great food and atmosphere.
Good food, good service, nice outdoor area, not too price, tasty cocktails 🙂👍
Just back from a lovely Romantic Weekend stay in this hotel. could fault anything The Room was beautiful and loved that the bathroom was a little away from the bedroom. staff were very friendly and food was fab. The cocktails were amazing think the lovely guy that made them was Bosco We will be definitely be going back and would highly recommend it for a Romantic Break with your SO 5 star Service.
Food is very good and the service is friendly and very efficient.
Gorgeous hotel with brilliant caring staff and a lovely bar and restaurant to kick back in after a day’s gallivanting around Kilkenny, can’t wait to come back!
One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. Staff, food and accommodation are brilliant. Staff were the most helpful I've ever come across. I look forward to visiting again in the future and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting kilkenny.
Love to stay here when in Kilkenny for business, very helpful and friendly staff with food served to a high standard. Great location for city sightseeing also would highly recommend The Kilkenny Hibernian.
Lovely room, friendly helpful staff, great food.
Beautiful hotel. Beautiful food and the staff were absolutely amazing. They were some of the friendliest people we've ever met. We'll be back again.
I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel! I booked this hotel for 2 nights (July21) and after arriving 2 rooms later I still was not happy about the quality and ended up cancelling the second night and checking in elsewhere. The rooms are disgusting and advertisement pictures are deceiving. MASSIVELY overpriced for what you get. Restaurant staff are very unprofessional too. This is supposedly a 4* hotel I would struggle to give it a 3* as the standard is quite low all round.
Great food staff very helpful would definitely go back again 5 star treatment Andy who was with me lost his left leg a few years ago and the staff were very helpful to him.
Wow so glad I returned for our visit was meant to go in March but with the lockdown it didn’t happen now we got there eventually wow is all I can say. It was fantastic beautiful room very welcoming staff. Food is excellent and service was perfect I certainly can’t wait to visit again.
We are just home from a fabulous stay at Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel. We got such a beautiful room and the staff were absolutely amazing. So friendly and helpful.
Absolutely Disgraceful unprofessional staff. My son and his friends were refused their booking on the morning of their exam results during these unprecedented times leaving them with no accommodation. And had the audacity to assume the guards would have to be called if they were to honour their booking. Total discrimination was shown here.
Beautiful and comfortable hotel, lovely friendly staff, tasty dinner.
Just back from a nights stay here this weekend really enjoyable staff very friendly. Breakfast was fabulous loved the idea of the pastries on the stand welldone guys and best of luck through these hard times.
We had booked a Hen Party in the Kilkenny Hibernian for September this year for a large group. From the moment we got in touch everything was simple, straightforward and brilliant value. Unfortunately with Covid-19 we have had to cancel the hen. When I contacted Marie to do so she was so accommodating and immediately offered to get a refund processed on the deposit which all the hens had paid. We might not get to stay this time, but if we manage to get to Kilkenny in future the Hibernian will definitely be our hotel of choice.
Had the pleasure of staying in your hotel last night we go to Kilkenny when ever we can great city and that’s hard for me to say because I’m from Wexford but of all the places we’ve stayed your hotel was the best great location and very helpful staff and the live music was top class great to hear proper traditional music anyway we will definitely be back.
Great food and great service.
Nice ambiance and lovely dinner big portion… One of my best restaurant in Kilkenny love it.
Highly recommend this hotel, very friendly and efficient staff, so helpful also. Lovely food.
Cosy, warm, very friendly, very clean.
Lovely atmosphere. Nice staff.
Lovely hotel, very friendly staff!
Great place to stay. Location location, nice entertainment.
Great bar, great staff, highly recommend.
Lovely spot to drop in to for a casual supper. The ambiance is top notch as is the food.
Really good time. Lovely friendly hotel.
Pleasant welcome on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble Rooms are spacious and well appointed Dining facilities full of character Well worth it!
Awesome food and excellent customer service on all levels. Very clean and configurable rooms definitely a 5 in my book.
Very good food, beautiful presentation and excellent service!
This is a really beautiful place to dine in the city. Great menu, great wines and the most pleasant waiter I've ever been served by. The bill wasn't shocking at all. We'll definitely be back soon. We'll done all involved.
Rooms are small and showers have low water pressure. Cheap place though so you get what you pay for.
The Hibernian has a fantastic location right in the heart of town. Just feet from the Kilkenny Castle and only a 5 minute walk down Medieval Mile to Smithwick’s, it hosts an amazingly cozy and quaint pub with excellent staff! Our room was very nice and comfortable and had stairs from the restroom to the bedroom! The bed was a good size and very comfortable. Parking is easy as there is a public garage just up the road, 1/4 block away with plenty of spaces. The hotel covers 1800-noon the next day. We arrived at 11am and had to pay €5 for the 7 extra hours we were there. Be prepared for some pub noise on the weekends. We were there on a Friday night and it was apparently techno music dance fest 2018
We thought we were booked into the Hibernian Hotel, this was our mistake. The Hibernian House is a sister property. We approached the staff, and then a manager about moving to the Hibernian hotel, but they were booked up. The manager agreed to refund our payment for the second night, and we were able to stay in a nice hotel down the road. The Hibernian House is in a great location, but we were really unhappy with the room. The room was TINY, I moved a small chair out into the hallway in order to get around the bed. The room smelled strongly of mildew, and there was obvious mold in the bathroom. The bathroom window was screwed closed so we couldn't air the place out. The toilet took about 10 minutes to fill, was stained and didn't flush well. The shower had very little pressure. The room was quite noisy, it sounded like a tropical rain storm was happening on the roof, but it was a clear day. I'm not sure where the water noise was coming from. A room down the hall had kids staying in it. At about 4 am, the kids started fighting and this continued for about 3 hours — on and off. Nothing the hotel could do about this, I only mention it because it added to the noise level. If you are staying in Kilkenny, I think that the Hibernian hotel is nice, but I don't recommend the Hibernian House.
Loved loved loved everything about our stay! Classy. Friendly. Yummy breakfast. Great atmosphere. Would highly recommend staying!
Very nice hotel. Nice rooms. Pleasant staff. Great location. Parking validation didn't work though.
I celebrated my Birthday in HARPER'S Restaurant last evening. The food and service was excellent. Alan does an amazing job.
We treat ourselves to lunch here quite often and the food never fails to impress, the service is so warm friendly and efficient, great value too.
Great hotel who I understand have very little complaints about it, food is fantastic & it's so central that everything is within walking distance,
Receptionist has a head like a siv.
Very nice hotel. Staff nice. Food very nice.
Perfekt! Weiterempfehlen!
Beautiful, spacious room and excellent location to explore Kilkenny. The service was good and they cover most of your parking fee. The lot is right across the street which is convenient. We didn't eat here but wish we had as I heard the food is good. Highly recommend.
Attending the Ireland East Hospital Group Nursing and Midwifery Symposium — great venue.
Stayed here for one night with a friend. Twin room was in an adjacent guest house to the main hotel. Price was 80 euro for the two of us which included breakfast the following morning in the main building. The room itself was basic with two small single beds but was exactly what we were looking for and good value for the money. There was some steps to be climbed in the building I was in which was fine for me and my friend but would not be suitable for the elderly or people possibly with a lot of luggage. Breakfast was fine and I am planning to bring my family back here in the coming weeks if I can get similar rates.
Nice hotel, super fun town. Can't wait to come back.
The front desk was very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. They provided a map, and gave excellent recommendations on where to eat, explore, and listen to local music. Parking was not directly at hotel, but car park was located just across the street. They validated our ticket for a bit of time, but we still paid about 10 Euro to park overnight and into the next day. The hotel location was fantastic and everything was completely walkable. A very walkable and convenient city in general. The room decor was lovely, and I loved that there was a faux fireplace. Our peacock wallpaper was beautiful. There were a few holes in our curtain sheers that we noticed, but other than that the room decor was lovely. TV was a bit small, but fine for the size of the room. Very nice to have a coffee maker. The bathroom was ok, though the sink was slightly leaky into the basin and we could not for the life of us get the radiator to turn off. Someone had turned both the radiator in the bedroom and bathroom on high prior to our arrival and the room was stifling. We were successful in turning off the bedroom radiator and had to open the window for a considerable amount of time to cool things off, and thought we had been able to turn off the bathroom radiator but it appeared to have turned itself back on at some point. There was an annoying blinking green light on the ceiling throughout the night, that was likely a smoke alarm.
Nice buzz here this morning aheaf if St. Patrick's Day Parade and of course the big rugby match — Come On Ireland abd make it a St. Patrick's Day to go diwn in rugby and folklore history.
Great menu, food is delicious! Staff are attentive. Great for food/ drink. Has a huge projector screen for sports.
Nice food, nice staff but rooms were not 4 star.
Fantastic lunch, really good value and great location in kilkenny.
Room very loud. Staff pushing noisy trolleys up and down at all hours, as well as other guests shouting and slamming doors in several rooms. Breakfast is very disappointing, worst I have ever had at a hotel. Both Quantity and Quality poor, especially the sausage and only recieved 1 slice of toast. Continental choice also disappointing, only half slices of brown bread available, all of which were hard. Cereal and fruit choices extremely limited. Will not be staying here again.
Pros: friendly and helpful staff; nice food; great location; free parking and breakfast; nice decoration. Cons: room had strong cigarette smell at the time we checked in; too much noise from the hall, room beside and from the hotel's nightclub; standard room with tiny and not very comfortable bed; bathroom also too small; bad shower; smoke detector right above the bed flashing the light every few seconds; heating switch didn't work, room was way too hot.

Harpers Bar has fantastic food. New menu and well priced. Staff are wonderful and very helpful. Would highly recommend visit.
Really great time. Staff so friendly. Food great.
What a Fab boutique hotel located in the middle of Kilkenny City. The rooms are modern with nice touches like bottled water and Orla Kiely toiletries. Perfect location for both Shopping & Nightlife.
Hotel well located in the city center, the room and the bathroom were a bit outdated, but correct, clean.
We had not had enough towels and bottled water in our room, they had to forget a person… the error is human!
On the other hand: the breakfast (self-service) was very light: no fruit juice, very few choices (no honey, no jam… just marmalade, you have to love! ) not enough bread…
Staff indifferent to the needs of its clientele!
No one to fill the buffet almost empty, coffee service very very long… and yet I'm not the kind of customer looking for the little beast!
No elevator, no obvious to climb the floors with big luggage.
Hotel for one night, not one more… (and again…).
I do not recommend, address to avoid!
(September 2017)
Just popped in here for lunch and we were both very impressed with our choice. We both had the pulled beef on sourdough with a carrot, parsnip and Thyme soup. All Very tasty, the staff were accommodating and friendly. Worth a visit.
Rooms are beautiful, short space with all the furniture, hallway noise is a slight problem. Stayed in a standard room on level 2. Parking is convenient nearby. Location is perfect.
It was our first time to stay at the Hibernian and it won't be our last. Having dealt with Alma in reservations for the past 6 years in the Lyrath, we were not disappointed. Fabulous room, lovely food, but the staff were so helpfull, the lady on reception "June I think her name was", even came outside to direct us to where the car park was, as we were not familer with this area of Kilkenny. We ate in the bar on sat night and it wascrelaxing and food amazing. The chap that served us was so attentive but not intrusive. So we were delighted with the Hibernian and Will be back again. The Ellards.
The hotel was beautiful and our room was incredible! Very friendly staff and the food was delicious. Our family and friends joined us in Kilkenny for our wedding and the Hibernian was great in taking care of us! Thank you!
Had a great time drinking at this bar, very old school feel with wood paneling.
A great location and a busy bar. The beds are comfortable but it is by busy streets and kind of loud at night.
Loved it great hotel great staff great little city.
No lift. Comfy bed. Good cont. Breaky.
Lovely quiet, comfortable place for a drink. Also has a great restaurant.
Myself and 2 sisters and nephew stayed there at the weekend after attending a family wedding in Langton's. We arrived at the hotel in the early hours of Saturday morning and were greeted by a very nice night porter. We asked to buy 4 bottles of water and were charged just €12 for 4 500ml bottles of still water? Room was very clean but absolutely roasting. Arrived for breakfast the next morning staff were very friendly and helpful. Gave our order to a lovely young girl ordered 2 very large pots of tea to be given 2 small pots of very weak cold tea! Complained about the tea and asked for 'hot' tea only to get the same lukewarm tea! We then waited for 35/40 mins for our breakfast (we think our order was misplaced) which was the worst description of a breakfast I have ever had. My order was bacon and mushrooms, the bacon was half raw and the mushrooms were totally black and shrivelled from over cooking sitting in a plate of grease. Nephew breakfast, rashers were so over cooked you couldn't eat them mushrooms were like mine the only thing he could eat when he moved the grease out of the way was the egg and hash brown. Other sister had just 'simple' scrambled eggs, they were so dry looked like they were cooked in the microwave? And finally breakfast no 4 cremated bacon and sausage with egg, hash brown was the best thing on her plate.
As with all my reviews every place gets 5 stars and it's up to them to loose them. The Hibernate is just what the foreign tourist's will love, solid oak everywhere and that old charm that we all use to enjoy and it serves food and as the evening goes on the place fills up and the "ceol august craic" begins. I wasn't there long enough to realy look into the place but I have a feeling that they wouldn't give me any reason to dock a star!
We had dinner here this evening. Beautiful, top class. Still full.
Aaaaah the Hibernian! What a grand place for me. Where to start? The pub, lets start there. The staff really made the time spent there a lot of fun. The locals were grand too but the staff accommodated my friends and i, and they (the staff) had all the charm and wit you'd expect of local Irish folk. Whether it was pints in the afternoon or a late nightcap the staff for the pub was great. The rooms were great! Clean and spacious, the beds comfy, the only downside is that they are right above the frony door and back entrance to a very very popular club! (And that translated to 4 am drunken banter) The restaurant is very classy amd the breakfast buffet is something to look forward too! All n all the Hibernian gets high marks from me! It has all the class and flavor of true Kilkenny! (Only criticisms would be 1. Watch out for the elevator door it's a bastard 2. The card keys worked about 50% of the time 3. The hot water dominated our faucet no cold)
Very good food, beautiful presentation and excellent service!
Rooms are very nice, breakfast is great, room service could use a little work.
We're leaving The Hibernian this morning after the most wonderful weekend in Kilkenny. Thank you so much Joanna, John, Dick and the rest of the team for being such amazing hosts. We had a gorgeous meal over incredible live jazz in Harper's Restaurant on Friday night, followed by drinks in the beautiful whiskey bar and dancing in Morrison's — the best night without ever leaving the hotel! On Saturday, the hotel was the perfect base for our adventures as we explored the city. Our rooms were so beautiful, spacious and immaculate and every staff member we encountered was so sound and helpful. We'll be back!
Located in the center of the city, a few tens of meters from the castle, offers free parking, in agreement with the multistorey covered parking of the street at the side. The room was adequately large and ours also well soundproofed. The staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfast can be improved as the buffet is exclusively sweet, while the continental breakfast is ordered to the card. The hotel also has a pub where you can dine and in the We listen to music.
Quite disappointing. The room was lovely and the hotel looks great but the noise from the night club is awful! The communication between the staff was terrible, in the rooms they advertised a whisky bar that opened at 5pm every day. After asking many people throughout our stay it turned out that it wasn't open at all. I would like to note though that the service was overall very good. The breakfast in the morning was also definitely not 4* quality. Poached eggs that tasted only of vinegar and hash browns that tasted a day old at least.
Was greeted by a very friendly receptionist who I think was called Sarah? Our room was lovely — spacious, spotless and exceptionally well designed. Room was a little warm, but not a bad thing during a chilly Spring. The bar is a beautiful, comfortable high ceilinged affair. We ate there twice, the snacks we had on the first day were not exceptionally well flavoured, but presented well. However we did have dinner there the following night and it was far nicer. Jeremy the barman was friendly, chatty and informative. Breakfasts were fine, although the dining area was a little crowded. Overall definitely one of the better stays I've had in a hotel. Thoroughly recommended.
Food very good. Okey, rooms are frustrated and full for the night!
Well run, centrally located hotel. Very clean.
And in the Centre of great service.
This beautifully appointed restaurant has it right.
We were greeted by a lovely waiter and looked after all night by attentive staff.
The food was amazing succulent soups followed by mouthwatering steaks.
Tempted by the deserts which did not disappoint.
Thanks for making our special night very memorable one of the best restaurants we have been to in Ireland.
Only down point was the grumpy receptionists that gave me directions to the toilet last night.
Well done.
Good value for money. Very central. Pleasant room.
Great room but room service don't understand what is a late check out.
12 of us stayed in this hotel 29 of january and the atmosphere was so good staff have to be the most polite staff we have met in any hotel in ireland we could not have been happier with our choice of hotel well done to all we will be back keep up the good work xx.
This hotel was a great place to stay. I had a nice room and the service was excellent. I got complimentary breakfast as part of my package and it was very tasty with a variety of foods including more traditional Irish foods. I was there on a Sunday and Monday in October so the pricing for the room was very reasonable and there were very few other guests. I didn't eat lunch or dinner in the hotel but the pub/restaurant area had a really nice ambiance. My favorite part about this hotel was its location. I wanted to see as many of the sites in Kilkenny as possible by foot and this was a great place to stay to do it. I was able to easily walk to the Castle — it is literally just around the corner. I also visited some of the cathedrals and other historical places and just wandered around. I felt safe while in Kilkenny and the hotel added to that greatly with their friendly service and clean, comfortable rooms that were really nice to return to after a long day walking about. There were only two things at all strange or negative that happened. For some reason my key card kept not working and I had to go to the front desk to have them recharge it (or whatever the term is) several times. It wasn't on my end because I kept it away from my phone, etc. I think the lock on the door may have had problems or something. Anyway, it wasn't a big deal just a bit of an annoyance but the staff were very apologetic and helpful.
It's a very nice property but located close to several clubs. The pounding music lasted until 2a. M. And the club patrons took another hour to clear the streets. We could not get to sleep until 3 a. M. When checking out at 6:30 the following morning (read 3 hours sleep) we were told by the person at the front desk that "Last night was not as bad as it gets. ) which I guess was supposed to make us feel better. Unless you plan on "clubbing" I would only stay here with a very good pair of noise cancelling headphones.
The location as well as style. Too bad that there is a disco or pub close by making music until late at night 2 there was still the vocalist who cried. The rooms are not soundproof. The bed is comfortable.
Ok for a short stay but don't expect too much.
You get what you pay for. Actually for $90 this was pretty carpet. Dumpy room with no air conditioning and a stagnant carpet. Your phone's screen is bigger than the one in the room. Room didn't even have a table. Being toiletries, unless you want to use the ambiguous shower/soap gel. Make sure you close the bathroom door so you don't hear the runny toilet. Don't open the window to cool down because the local bar is blasting awful covers of American songs. Checking in may also be an issue — when I did it there was no one here. Do not recommend this is a ripoff. At least parking was included.
Very hellhörige room. Gammelige Shower. An ancient television, the more in a Museum than in a 4 star Hotel. In General, the four stars is too much for this Hotel.
No matter how nice this hotel is, the noise of the night club makes any stay here unbearable. Its not a small amount of noise, your entire room will vibrate with the bass of the music until the club closes, at which point the drunk people flood outside to keep the noise going. It is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at in terms of noise pollution.
One of my favourite places in kilkenny.
Fantastic service and food served here daily. Their chowder is yum and I also recommend the salad.
Lovely atmosphere and very cosy. Food is of a high standard and reasonably priced. Staff are always attentive and you won't be waiting too long for a pint.

RespondAte once in the City Grill and Bar. Very impressed, can't wait to go back. Hope it is as nice on my return.

RespondStaff was nice, but this is not what I would consider a Four Star hotel. Our rooms (222, 224) were too noisy late at night from the street entrance to the club below. Wi-Fi was sketchy and generally didn't work in rm 222 — I had to go out to the open area to get it. Didn't take the breakfast (included) as it was in the nice but dark and not airy restaurant. Went to the nice hotel on the other side of the river that I'd NOT booked into as I was afraid it was one of those 'wedding hotels'. But next time here, that will probably be the hotel of choice. Hibernia was in a good location. The parking structure they say is 'just across the street' and we couldn't find at first pass is sort of across the street, but not across the High Street as it's inferred. It's up more of a side street that the hotel is on. So can only fault them on not being clearer to it's actual location.
