This is such a fabulous place. It is unique, stylish yet very welcoming. Food and service is superb. Staff are excellent and thoughtful. I highly recommend Butler House for any occasion.

Had a wonderful night on the 4th December 2021. Definitely one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in… So beautiful… The staff were absolutely brilliant and so helpful… Especially the girl on reception… So helpful to everyone…. I will definitely be back and Butler House will be my number 1 in Kilkenny …. 💜💜💜💜

We took a 24 hour staycation in Butlers House last week. It was just brilliant from start to finish. The staff were outstanding and we felt appreciated and safe at all times. We stayed in a gorgeous room and enjoyed dinner in the restaurant. Both our meals, dinner and breakfast were just top-class. We enjoyed a walk in the gardens and of course the charm of Kilkenny city. I would highly and thoroughly recommend this hotel. Keep up the good work. As the restrictions lift further, the success of such places will boil down to service such as was displayed by Butlers.

The absolute BEST place I have stayed in my whole life thus far. I will return for sure. If I ever find a wife, I will bring her here as well! It is “home. ”

The room we stayed in was wonderful. It was spacious and nicely decorated. The staff were extremely helpful with all requests, including an excellent recommendation for a place for to buy new shoes needed because of all the walking I did in Dublin. The location is perfect. It seems like everything is within a five minute walk. I wholeheartedly recommend Butler House!

We had a fabulous afternoon tea with my family celebrating my sisters birthday.
The place is beautiful, the service second to none and the food absolutely fabulous. Head Chef couldn’t do enough for us either and checked on us several times during or afternoon tea.
I couldn’t say enough about this place.

We had our wedding at Butler House and we couldn’t have asked for anywhere better. The organization was brilliant and on the day the food, atmosphere and setting were amazing. Highly recommended and enjoyed by all our guests.

5 star experience Afternoon Tea in Butler House today. Food fantastic, variety of savoury and sweet. Service was fantastic. Gardens magnificent, comfortable seating area outside, beautiful pond with fish & Lily pods. I have to mention Manager Deirdre who kindly explained history of garden, very Interesting. Our waitress on the day was Tess, a fabulous lady who couldnt do enough for us, nothing was a Problem. I would highly recommend this hotel for afternoon tea or lunch which looked yummy also to everyone. A very enjoyable experience. Well Done all in Butler House!.

Beautiful historical surroundings with viees to die for. Food is so lovely and very reasonably priced. Staff were lovely. Has to be a must if visiting Kilkenny for afternoon high tea.

An absolutely beautiful place in kilkenny. Sat outside for lunch, sun was shining, food was excellent, staff were extremely friendly and efficient, surroundings were stunning. The most relaxing afternoon I’ve had in ages. Wish I could give 10 stars.

Lovely setting. However, we were not impressed by the long wait for service. Having sat in the garden for a pot of tea and cake, we had our order taken by TWO members off staff, we received the pot of tea and waited over HALF AN HOUR for the cakes to arrive. We got fed up waiting and went in to pay for the pot of tea, to then be asked by one of the staff members as to whether we had been given our cakes! When I said no, we would just pay for the drinks we'd had, she apologised but offered no reason as to why we has been forgotten. Other customers were also left waiting for service too. Like I said, lovely setting and garden but needs to brush up on customer service.

Lovely gardens. Staff are very accommodating and friendly. Beds and pillows not very comfortable. Very stark firnishings in room. 3 large flights of stairs with no elevators. No air conditioning and no bar. Breakfast served at 8 am. Limited selection.

Beautiful gardens. Ate lunch on the patio. Service was slow but the food was excellent. It took a long time to get waited on. I had to ask twice for someone to take my order… the table next to me had the same issue.

What a find… by chance walked through the gardens at the rear and found a place of beauty and tranquility. Having spent time on the rocking chairs in the sunshine, we dined on the patio. The food was lovely, the staff were so friendly and the location and history of Butler house has me planning a return visit with a definite stay in mind.

They served us a delicious breakfast although they usually don't do that after 10. That was very nice of them. It took rather long for the waitress to get ready to take our order and we didn't have enough plates and glasses to help ourselves to food from the buffet.

An exquisite place. The rooms are very spacious and very quiet, they have many services. Breakfast is varied and the food is quality as well as abundant. The staff is very friendly and helpful and with a high degree of professionalism.

Had the celeriac and brambley Apple soup was amazing even if on the small size of portions but the flavours, quality of ingredients and texture made up for it, looking forward to trying the full menu, unfortunately was in a rush and being a crisp cold day soup was the order of the day. Well done To The butler house team.

Excellent tea room area, love the service.

Thank you for making our son, Max’s christening day very very special for Seán, Max and I and our families. The room setup was lovely. The buffet table was fab. I loved how the food was presented firstly. Secondly all the food presented was delicious. It was clear only the freshest and best quality ingredients were used to create a sumptuous lunch offering. We got great reviews from our guests. The wine served was very good and reasonably priced. The children’s menu was simpl…y exquisite, probably the best I have ever seen. I saw some parents steal some of their children’s food, that’s how good it was! Staff were excellent from the interaction beforehand with Deirdre to the staff on the day. Nothing was a problem at all. At the end of the day customer service is everything and we could not commend the staff of Butler House more highly for their very friendly and helpful manner. I have been in Butler House many times over the last few months and I love it there. It is a very special venue, one we were really delighted to be able to bring our families too, to celebrate our son’s christening. I would highly recommend Butler house to anyone looking to host a special event there or even just to go there for a really delicious lunch. You will not be disappointed.

Beautiful setting in the heart of Kilkenny. The staff are absolutely wonderful and go the extra mile to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

This is probably the worst room I’ve stayed in. The staff is very kind and accommodating but clearly have no clue about creating any atmosphere in the hotel visually. The best compliment I can give the place is it’s completely banal. The decor is dormitory meets hostil. After climbing three flights of stairs in what could be a gorgeous Georgian manor I was met with a slab door to my cell dressed with the cheapest of hardware. Void of any personality. Dirty carpet and the most vile piece of stained threadbare decorative fabric placed across the bottom of the bed serving no purpose but to conjure thoughts of dirty feet and questionable acts. I quickly removed it and hid it out of my sight. Vinyl chairs and hideous blockish “wood” furnishings did nothing to improve my opinion. The white miasma of a bathroom was very clean but the shower to small for a 6’ 200lb man leaked and the plastic tub was working it’s way off the wall. This place is completely void of anything to make it feel special and is not worth the price of admission. Completely depressing. The only thing that could have saved my opinion was a view of the garden which I didn’t have. What could be a delightful Georgian manor house is nothing short of a half way house for wayward tourists. It’s a shame because most of the architecture is still intact. They just don’t know what to do with it. Anyone who has a high opinion of this place beyond the staff being lovely hasn’t stayed anywhere better.

Butler House is such a beautiful spot to visit, even just for an afternoon cup of tea. After a lovely long walk along the river recently, a friend and I stopped in and enjoyed the melt-in-your mouth buttermilk scones and home-made jam along with teas from their extensive menu. We were in heaven! The tastefully decorated dining room, views of the gardens, and the amazing staff, combined with the tea and scones, made us feel like we were treated to a true VIP experience and we spent half the time chatting about finding excuses to come back for another visit, maybe for the full afternoon tea experience, with a group for a ladies lunch or for a classy bachelorette event. The lunch menu looked fantastic too, although sadly we arrived too late in the afternoon to partake. I will definitely be looking for any excuse I can come up with to visit Butler House again the next time I'm in Kilkenny.

We had an absolutely amazing time here. FABULOUS room with a view of the castle. Immaculately stylish decor, and excellent service. Breakfast was absolutely delicious too! Best part about Butler House is that it is close to practically all the places of interest and it is literally part of the local history.

This was beyond our wildest dreams, such a fairy tale wedding with family and friends who traveled across the Atlantic to be with us! Gabrielle, Freda, the whole staff were amazing. Everything went so well and with the cooperation of the weather we got to enjoy the beautiful garden. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our wedding so special!

Coolest place in Kilkenny to stay, the included breakfast was in a in a design hall. Rooms are amazing.

Nice place. The family room that slept 4 was a good deal. Breakfast was pretty good. Beds we're comfortable, grounds are well kept. Good location in downtown area.

Great hotel, Great Room. We stayed in a Family Garden View and it was beautiful. Very modern, but traditional. Receptionist was super friendly and the hotel was in a great location. Breakfast was delicious and was a great start to the day. May have had one or two many pain au chocolat. Garden was beautiful!

Beautiful house and gardens. Really enjoyed walking around the gardens and at Christmas it the lights were amazing. Very clean and tidy.
