The Royal Surakarta Heritage - Handwritten Collection

I stayed at The Royal Surakarta Heritage for 3 days and booked two connecting superior rooms, one twin and one double. The hotel is in a very strategic location, close to many important spots in the city. The interior is beautifully decorated with Javanese art, giving the whole place a unique character and a royal Javanese atmosphere. The service was excellent, and all the staff were genuinely friendly. The F&B team during breakfast gave the strongest positive impression throughout my stay. Not forget to mention that the hotel even prepared a birthday surprise after I informed them through email before my arrival, a slice of cake, a decorated towel, and a ‘Happy Birthday’ sign on the bed. It was a very thoughtful touch.
Here are three points I would like to share based on my experience:
1. AC.
The room temperature was not cool enough. Since the hotel uses central AC and there was an announcement about AC repairs on the 6th floor, it might have affected my room. I hope the hotel considers using individual AC units for better temperature control.
2. Wi-Fi Quality.
The Wi-Fi on the 5th floor was quite weak and slow. I ended up relying on my mobile data because the signal was unstable. A stronger and more reliable connection would make the stay more comfortable.
3. Breakfast.
I had breakfast on my first and last day. The taste was average and not what I expected for a 5-star hotel. The items I enjoyed were the jamu and the healthy green juice.

The decor of this hotel is stunning and immediately captivated me, perfectly reflecting the fascinating culture of Central Java. The entire experience was filled with very thoughtful touches, from the moment I stepped into the lobby all the way through to my room.
​However, I do have a few areas for improvement 1) ​I found the room to be quite hot, and the air con appeared to be under-maintained throughout the hall; 2)
​The amenities (liquid soap, hand wash, and shampoo) do not have a pleasant fragrance; 3) ​The room itself needs an air freshener, as there is a strong scent of funky old furniture. ​Considering how beautifully executed the interior design is, these operational issues are a shame. Addressing these points presents an excellent opportunity for improvement that the hotel management could definitely maximised. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my overnight stay in this boutique hotel. Breakfast buffet is definitely something to look for!

Staying overnight at this hotel was a pleasant surprise. I initially chose it for its premium location in the city center of Surakarta, without realizing it was actually a five-star hotel.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a strong Javanese ambiance—reflected in the architecture, interior details, and overall atmosphere. The staff were courteous and even took the time to explain the history and philosophy behind the hotel, which added a special touch to our experience.
Some elements, however, showed signs of age, such as the shower head, in-room telephone, and fitness equipment. Sadly, we didn’t get a chance to enjoy the swimming pool as we arrived late and had to check out the next morning.
Nonetheless, this hotel is definitely worth revisiting on my next trip to Surakarta.

Rooms could be better give the name and style of the hotel. Significant improvements are needed in bath areas, at least in my room. However I was told this is not the case with every room.
Apart from that, rooms are big and with enough amenities. Good stay overall. Staff service was good and thank you all.

My review is informed by my personal preference for modern accommodations and furnishings. I fully appreciate the Japanese style and beauty of the hotel but it just doesn't give me the relaxed and comfortable feeling I require from a 5 star hotel. The service is wonderful and the front desk are very friendly and professional particularly Kinza and Era. The breakfast has a huge amount of variety but sadly not many wins. The location is convenient and the hotel is probably the best in Solo. I have just been really spoilt with my five star hotel experiences. Also the hotel does have poor air conditioning so it can be an issue if you are heat sensitive.

I have stayed at this hotel 6 times since June 2023. I stayed in room 915 and checked out on 6 July. This hotel is more frequented by families than couples, and there are quite a few Western tourists.
During this stay, there were minor problems in my room, so I explained the situation to the duty manager, and she quickly took care of it, so I didn't feel any inconvenience.
Accor platinum tier members are provided with a piece of cake and fruit as welcome food. For the use of welcome drink vouchers, the menu for gold/platinum/diamond tier is all the same (You can choose Bintang also). The coffee at this hotel is quite good, and the vegetables for breakfast are fresh. All the staff are friendly and speak English fluently. The pool is open until 10pm, but it will be quite cold if you swim after 8pm. The price of the pool bar's menu is all NETT, and Accor Plus discount doesn't seem to be apply in the pool bar.
All four Accor hotels in this city offer good service for the price, and except for Grand Mercure, the three hotels seem to be run by the same management. I have always been satisfied with this hotel every time I visit, so I will stay here again next time.
And even though I don't remember his name because I am not smart, I would like to commend the male staff at the front desk for always responding kindly whenever I ask questions. He appears to be of a higher rank than the average employee (who said Ciao Ciao to me on the evening of 5 July).

Other than that, everything else was quite pleasant.

The breakfast is superb, so many choice and the delicious. From main course to dessert. The kids corner pretty enjoyable, but will be better if you can add ice cream corner. The room so comfortable. The vibes so traditional and beautiful. Thank you, I will be back for sure.

As an Accor member, I'm very pleased with the hospitality of the staff. Everyone is so welcome and friendly. I also saw the way they treat other guests in a great manner as well.
So their staff really worth a 5 star rating!
I've had some welcome drinks at my room, ica cafe latte & hot milk-tea which are great. I also ordered fried rice from the room service, which is also great.
Unfortunately, there are things that need to be improved:
1. The building, ornament, and the room are filled with Javanese culture, which is unique. However, some of the furniture looks rusty.
2. The AC on the lobby is lacking. It's really hot staying on the lobby.
3. The room is very spacious. However, the bathroom, despite its space, looks old and rusty. There's also problems with the sink & I have to call the engineer for that matter.
4. They don't give plastic bottled water to the room. Instead, they'd give reusable bottled water, and we could ask for a refill. However, when we asked for a refill, there are 2 problems: 1) the first bottled water filled with dirty water, we can see some dirt inside the water; 2) the second bottled water has a left over food on the cap (bekas daun bawang). Hence, the hygiene of the F& B should be reviewed further.
5. The TV has not been reset yet to the default setting. We can not watch TV easily.
I have also talked to the staff regarding this feedback. In the morning, one of the Accor staff members met us at the restaurant where I could share my feedback.

I recently stayed at The Royal Surakarta Herrirage and had a wonderful experience, especially when it came to the breakfast service. One of the highlights of my stay was definitely the breakfast buffet. It offered an impressive variety of options, catering to both local and international tastes. From traditional dishes to Western favorites like scrambled eggs, sausages, toast, and cereal, everything was fresh and delicious.
I was particularly impressed by how well-organized the breakfast area was. The staff made sure that every item was always well-stocked and clean. There were also several healthy options available, such as fresh fruits, salads, and juices, which I really appreciated.
The taste of the food exceeded my expectations. Each dish was flavorful and clearly prepared with care. I also liked that the menu slightly changed from day to day, so it didn’t feel repetitive even though I stayed for several days.

A 5 star hotel located in the heart of Solo. Location wise, very bery goooood lah, markets are near, restaurants everywhere, cafes and coffee shops are close too. Becaks are pooling in front the hotel, they can bring you anywhere you want.
The most important value of this hotel is their response to complains. Damn, the standard is so high, no 5 star hotels I've stayed on can compare. I will list the "less convenient" problem I met.
First, the parking lot is too small, no need explanations, I have to park outside of the hotel, next to the main busy road.
Second, the building needs rejuvenation, it was getting old. The problems I met, leaked drainage in bathroom, bad smells, aircon is warm instead of cool, and some other minor things, are mainly because of the old building. These problems were solved by the staffs within minutes, I even moved to other room, better one. Services was so FAST, no BLABLA ARGUING needed. Bravo!
Third, breakfast here had lower standard than other 5 star hotels I stayed before. Of course my taste might not be the same with other, but I would still say I had been to a hotel with better food for breakfast.
That's all I can write for this hotel. Will I return? YES, I WILL. They solved my problems, I am happy, so why not?

Comfortable hotel with luxurious traditional touch. Had a pleasant stay with my family. The bed is huge and the room is beautiful with traditional Javanese interior. Very close to Keraton and my children can enjoy riding becak. The staff in the restaurant is helpful and friendly. Recommended.

Staying here for 3 nights (though was asked to do a review after the 1st night).
The room was great, though had an issue with the initial room (Superior Twin Bed) as not fulfil the “5-stars” standard they claimed. It might be due to the age of the hotel. But once I requested to change the room, they surely ensured that am happy with the current room by having a walk in to the new room before moving my stuff out, and upgraded it to Deluxe Twin Bed with view which was a nice touch.
Breakfast was lovely, lots of options to cater different backgrounds of people.
The staffs are very friendly, polite and professional; all beyond your expectations, showing you the 5-stars that definitely lies on the staffs!
Still need to try the facilities but don’t see any obvious issue on the initial walk around so looking forward to it!

The hotel is strategic and well located on Slamet Riyadi Street. Just walking distance to some of the top attractions, such as Kampung Batik Kauman, Pasar Gede, and Keraton Solo. A lot of cafes and restaurants nearby so you don't have to worry if you're feeling hungry at night. The interior is so unique, you can feel the authentic, traditional Javanese vibe once you enter the lobby. The hotel is so clean, well-maintained, has semi indoor swimming pool and quite large fitness centre. The downside is the hotel is quite old so you can see the signs of aging especially inside the hotel room and bathroom, but still enjoyable. And also the parking area is pretty small, so probably need to book in advance if you bring your own vehicle? But overall it was a good stay for us with a cheap price for a five-star hotel.

The lobby is already overwhelming; three stories high. The decoration is traditional javanese style and made me feel cosy.
The staff is very helpfull and attentive. The rooms are spacious and clean as well as the bathroom. The breakfast is delicious and has a large varity from local dishes to western food.
Last but not least is the location. It is situated in middlel of the town.
On our next trip to Solo we will come back.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Great position in the center of Solo. Hotel in general is in good condition but our rooms, although comfortable, were a bit tired and could do with a freshen up. But the room was clean. Good facilities here. Breakfast was mainly indonesian and some continental. Food was very good if you prefer Indonesian option. For continental, was mainly bread and pastry. Good selection of fruit also. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recomend to anyone.
