I’ve never seen a bigger misrepresentation of a hotel than the Mills House! I stayed here 9 years ago and found it charming. Evidently since then, the hotel has been taken over and managed by Wyndham, and had gone into serious disrepair. The lobby, courtyard, and restaurant look fresh and updated, however, the rooms are not clean and reek of mildew smells. When we went downstairs to the desk to complain, the staff didn’t even ask us what the problem was and did not apologize! Also, they told us our initial credit authorization was declined, and asked for another card. Wrong! Upon checking with our bank, they authorized both cards! What a disappointment. We left and went to The Planters Inn. Amazing room, lobby and room decor, much charm, and it’s clean!

A simply, stunning hotel right in the heart of Charleston's historic French Quarter. You are close to many of Charleston's great restaurants and must see sites like the Battery, Rainbow Row and the famous Pineapple Fountain. The hotel staff, from the valet to the registration staff, made me feel welcomed in their home. The rooms, though smaller, were fine. You may choose to use the valet or park in the Charleston County parking garage, which will save you a few dollars.

The location was good. I didn't like that we had to pay for parking. The rooms were in need of updating. For instance, part of the ceiling was coming off. Also the shower could have used a good update. However, the lobby was beautiful and so was the courtyard and pool deck. The service was great!

I really loved this hotel. It is in a great location within walking distance of most everything we did. The rooms were quiet, and the pool was fantastic. My only issue is that I was not told about the valet fee when I checked in, I would have liked to have known sooner just so I could have prepared for that charge on my card. The rooms also need a serious update. There is no bathroom space for your toiletries, the closets are super tiny, and if you use the luggage rack it's really difficult to walk around and makes the room tinier than it already is. They were still nice, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely time for an upgrade.

This is a good hotel, located very close to Charleston downtown. The lobby is very clean, and so is the room. We had to squeeze a little to accommodate 3 people but for 2, it should be perfect. There are many eateries nearby, along with the farmer’s market just a couple of blocks away. It isn’t too far from the airport, or Sullivan’s Island. The room has all the basic amenities. It was all a bit old, but it was very clean. The staff was very helpful. The Wi-Fi was good too. The swimming pool was very relaxing, especially sleeping with the sun on your back. It’s a good place to stay if you are visiting Charleston.

The place is excellent for location! It’s centrally located in the French quarter and convenient to everything. The staff were all very courteous and accommodating. Free water at the valet stand 24/7 is nice! That being said, it is an old hotel. We were supposed to get a room with a ‘sundeck ‘ and French doors to the outside, we got a room with one broken door that opened to the public patio. We couldn’t even sit outside of our room. Had to keep the curtains closed the entire time. The a/c was great just don’t look Into any of the air vents. They are definitely due for a dust bunny cleaning. Seriously! The double room beds are TINY. My husband and son are both over 6ft tall and they hung off the beds. So sleeping diagonal on the bed is what they did and that left no room for me, they don’t allow roll aways in the double rooms = not much sleep for the mom. There is no refrigerator in the room and no gift shop for those little items or snacks that you might want. There is a public parking garage attached to the hotel but they don’t advertise that, they want to valet park you for $34 a night. For the price you are paying, these little things matter. For that I give only 3 stars.

What A Lovely Hotel and we had a great surprise when we got back to the room on our anniversary courtesy of the hotel highly recommended close to everything within walking distance in a very friendly staff. They are above and beyond what must consider normal.

Beautiful hotel in the historic district. Hotel is across the street from husk, poogan's porch and 82 queen, which are all Charleston must visits. Also has easy access to the market and waterfront park. As does much of the historic district, hotel has ties to the past and is close to other sites of significance for those who are history buffs.

Very convenient location. Everyone was very nice. Beds were comfortable. Lobby and courtyard looks gorgeous.

Old and very noisy (loud AC humming sound next door) bedroom, motel like bathroom, rude personnel; all for the price of a 5 star hotel. Only place with rooms available on short notice (no wonder why). Avoid if possible. Lobby is nice, location nice, bed nice which is important but not sufficient. No Value for money.

This was an adorable hotel with great service. The room was fairly small, but comfortable and the bed was nice as well. There was something a bit off about the television. It wouldnt display properly, so, there was a line across the screen. I was staying here for a conference and the other attendees at the same conference had the same complaint.

Elegance, southern charm and fantastic location for experiencing the history of Charleston. Parking is pricey but the free Wi-Fi makes up for it. My room was quiet and comfortable with great view of the downtown.

I had to share a BED with a stranger — — not a room, A BED! We had our annual managers conference at this hotel. When we arrived, we were put in the courtyard to wait on our rooms to become available. We waited alright… hours and hours we waited. As a company all of our employees were respectful and kind. We were patient and understanding. We were finally informed that they had overbooked the hotel by 50 rooms! The only option was to put us in king rooms (2 people per room) instead of the two double bed rooms we had booked. We smiled made the best of a bad situation. To say that this was the worst sleep of my life would be an understatement. I am not accustomed to sleeping in a bed with a stranger I just met that very day! There were several other issues during our stay that included: Lack of promised Wi-Fi in the conference space, cold food, and some of the rudest employees I have ever encountered. It’s not about making a mistake. We all know that can happen, but it’s about how they dealt with it after the mistake was made. We were met with a rude employee at every single corner we turned. They were not apologetic. They were not accommodating. They were not kind. On our last night we had an awards presentation booked on the roof. They did tell us that quiet hours started at 10:00pm. We were DONE by 10:06 and downstairs by 10:08. They, in return for our patience with regards to the HOURS we waited on rooms (only to sleep with strangers), called the police on us! Yes.

Our company hosted our annual managers conference at The Mills House Charleston and we were so excited to call this beautiful, quaint location Home for the week. But from the moment we arrived, there was one catastrophe after another including the hotel having double booked rooms to the extent that dozens of our employees had to share single bed rooms with people they didn’t know in order to have anywhere to sleep. From there the experience continued to decline with the hotel staff showing no humility or desire to rectify the situation — and with continuous mistakes and major problems throughout the week. We were treated very rudely and were disappointed with almost every aspect of our stay. However, Clarence and Roberto were always cheerful, friendly, and kind in any interaction with us and other guests — they truly provided the only positive experience some of us had.

The hotel is very nice and clean and the service is great.

From the outside and in the lobby of the hotel it looks like you’re in for a special kind of stay. Immediately upon walking into the room you recognize the opposite effect… first and foremost, the first attempt was met with a set of double beds which were supposed to be a single king. We returned to the front desk to have the room changed to what we had ordered online (separate booking company) only to find out that there was an additional $25 charge for the room that we had already paid for to have a king bed. Rather than fighting after a long day of driving we just paid the charge and headed for the elevator again. Upon entry into the second room, we found yet again that we were walking into a room with double beds. Again! We headed back downstairs to get switched again into an appropriate room. Third time’s a charm! Finally got into a king suite. Which we ordered originally and then paid $25 extra for. Room was sufficient for what we needed but was no dazzling accommodation we expected to receive as it was looking like it had been well used over the years as the bed had slouching indentions in it as if the mattress was on its last leg. Out dated furniture and bathroom and all fixtures were hardly worth the original amount we paid. Let alone the extra $25. No real charm inside the rooms at all and uncomfortable. So after a mediocre night of no sleep we went to check out only to find that the hotel had charged us twice for the room in addition to the $25.

A beautiful hotel. Very historic. Very friendly staff. Clean. Perfect service. Right in the middle of the fun city. Walking distance to everything. I can't say enough good things.

Every person employed here during our stay were pleasant and helpful. Gaston our bellman, went above and beyond for us. He also retrieved ice for us so we could enjoy a cold drink. The Decor needs update, room is large and comfortable.

The hotel was phenomenal. The staff at the hotel were extremely accommodating. My wife and I are expecting twin girls, and the staff was very accommodating with a room that had a refrigerator. The management staff also allowed us to leave the hotel early (due to the bad snow storm) without a penalty. Will go back in the near future to hopefully not get our trip cut short by mother nature! Thank you Denise for all of your help! You saved us a lot of trouble, will come back just for you!

Nice hotel in theory but the rooms are pretty small and it's very old; they say they've renovated recently but the bathroom doors don't close, for example. Maybe good for a honeymoon but I couldn't recommend it for anything else. We called in advance to book and to make sure we would be able to put a rollaway bed in a room with two doubles and they assured us that it would be possible, just they can't guarantee it. For that reason we came to the hotel early, making sure to check in before five pm, only to find that the rollaway beds cannot ever go in the double rooms, even after the person who booked our room told us that they would likely be able to. We ended up putting two chairs together and topping them with bedding; housekeeping even made this "bed" in the morning! 10/10 for housekeeping I guess.

My wife and I selected this place as our last night in Charleston, hoping to splurge and have a romantic evening. The lobby was nice and overall, I think this is a nice hotel, I think we just got a series of unfortunate events. 1st, we were put on the second floor, by the elevators, where a wedding party was taking place. We heard the fun from our room the whole night. 2nd, we discovered a thorough cleaning of our room had not been done prior to our stay. So, the ice bucket… still had ice, the towels we're not replaced, and… out sheets had not been replaced : (. The front desk gave us free breakfast for that. 3rd, our shower was clogged up. I was trying to put out 14mo old down when my wife had to call the front desk… it was late and when the maintenance guy told us he was going to have to use a loud machine, I was done and said to just do it tomorrow. 4rth, because of the wedding party taking over the restaurant, we could not order a nice dessert to say goodbye to Charleston. We still made the best of it and walked somewhere to have a nice relaxing time, then come back to sleep. I do have to say the staff was really empathetic and wanted to help. Like I said, we just did not have the best luck with it, but hope the best for others who try this place! Charleston is great, so enjoy it no matter what!

Just got back from three wonderful nights at the Mill House Grand. And "Grand" it is… we used one day to drive into Savannah and back because of the short distance. It was nice to have a valet park your car after a long day of sightseeing. Every thing was perfect. It is within walking distance of EVERYTHING Charleston including some great restaurants, if you choose not to dine at the hotel. The lobby and grounds were elegant and upscale but "comfortable" (but not "snooty" … if you know what I mean). All the staff was amazing and if you get to meet "Clarence"… please do. Breakfast was wonderful and we highly recommend the omelets.

Just came home from a fabulous weekend in the most charming city in the USA. The Mills House was a great choice to stay at. It was everything that I expected from a 4 star hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly. The lounge at the end of the evening was perfect. I came home to an email, offering a 20% discount on our return visit, plus free breakfast. I already signed up. I vote five stars.

Beautiful interior and amazing history. It easily exceeded my expectations and was a wonderful stay. The staff was helpful and friendly and good Wi-Fi speed (very important! ) And it's right in downtown and close to everything. Overall a superb stay in a wonderful city.

Located in Downtown Charleston a block away from the Four Corners of Law and almost as close to the City Market. Rooms are comfortably furnished and many rooms have excellent views. The staff is friendly and inviting.

The room was small and dated. The bathroom was about 7x8 feet and two people could not use the sink area at the same time. Definitely get an upgrade and bring lots of money to eat there. Breakfast averages about $20. Parking is $32 daily. Not worth the money!

This is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. The beds and pillows were very very comfortable. Beautiful pool area and indoor rest areas. They offer great valet parking, concierge service and many other amenities. Very historical hotel in one of America's most historical sections restored to original plans. Walking distance from many attractions, couldn't think of a better location, I'm scared to find out how much the location itself is worth. If you can afford it you won't be disappointed and won't find a better overall deal in Charleston.

Beautiful hotel! The staff was very friendly and the lobby smelled glorious all the time. The location was perfect for anything you want to do. The room was nice but nothing special. But we really didn't spend much time in the room. The rooms are pricey, but so is anything else in the area. I would definitely stay here when I come back to Charleston.

My group had an excellent time in the Barbados room. Great charcuterie spread and stiff drinks. The host was a true gentleman who made us feel very welcome and taken care of. Excellent experience.

Wonderful centrally located hotel. Within walking distance of the best parts of Charleston. Swanky and well maintained. Walls are thin but nothing but praise for facility and location. Must consider if staying in Charleston.

The hotel itself was beautiful, and the staff was very friendly. The room, however, was quite small, and we could hear our neighbors conversation word for word. Location-wise it was great. Poogans Porch and Husk are literally right across the street, and the City Market is within a 5 minute walk, as well as King Street with all its amazing shopping.

Beautiful hotel and a great place to stay when in Charleston. All the staff is super nice and helpful. Valet parking available if needed. Rooms are very clean and updated, restaurant has great food and breakfast to start the day. Concierge service is very helpful for recommending activities and which to use. Doormen and staff will go out there way to make you happy.

Hotel is great. Clean and good service. Parking on the other hand is a rip off. Have to pay high rates. Other than that had a good experience.

Good service and a comfortable room, but it has the feel of a big hotel in a city known for more intimate charm. I was here for a group annual meeting, which included breakfast in one of the ballrooms that was good but nothing outstanding. I appreciate that this hotel was built in the historic style, but I was a bit disappointed when I learned the structure wasn't actually historic.

Fabulous location. Loved the rooms, great service, lounge and restaurant were excellent. Food selection varied and sutied our tastes as a family of six — children were ages 14, 17 and 19 years. Parents and grand father. All very satisfied. Parking accommodations great since parking next door to hotel. Walkway from parking garage to hotel made it easy for us to access hotel. Finally staff very friendly and accommodating. Will be back.

Wonderful location in downtown. You can walk anywhere. The staff and valet was very knowledgable. The bars/resturant was very attentive. Housekeeping was always on spot and we never went without. Was not impressed with the king jr suite size and cost compared to the standard king size and cost. Would have thought it would of had a little more room.

Service was excellent, staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room did not have a mini fridge which was a minor inconvenience, but not a big deal. Location was excellent. Hotel is within walking distance of all major historic Charleston attractions.

My Husband and I were here this weekend to Celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. As we toured all of Charleston, we came back to lobby to rest for awhile, then back out to eat. At Dinner I realized that one of my brand new ($2, 000.00) diamond earrings had fallen out somewhere in Charleston. I called the Hotel and at the Front desk a Wonderful Young lady named Tracey answered my frantic phone call. She immediately went and searched the tea room area of the lobby (I am guessing on her hands and knees) Because SHE Found it on the Floor. She will never know what that meant to me. …. And That Gift symbolized our re — commitment to each other. And something that could have never been replaced. Thank you to a Wonderful, Honest and Loyal employee Ms. Tracey.

My sister had arranged for gifts to be given to the wedding party that booked rooms there which weren't handed out until a complaint was made by her / her wedding coordinator and were delivered at a late hour around 10pm. On the Friday the 14th there was to a get together for mingling at the bar area of the hotel. My sister and her groom are a mixed race couple as well as myself and my fiancee'. The service was very slow and the bar staff were very rude. Two older ladies were taking care of the bar that night. Me and my fiancee' don't drink but we wished to order food of which we were unable to get a menu from the bartender as she said that we only allowed to get a menu from the maitre d although there were a stack of menus on the bar. This would have been fine except this was explained to us in a rude manner. We eventually were able to obtain a menu and ordered some water and a soda from the bartender that came to our table while we were looking at the menu and making a decision. These drinks never came after more than 15 minutes and after looking at the bartenders as they were just standing at the bar doing nothing but laughing it was apparent that we weren't going to be served. I'm unsure if this was racism, they hated their job, or they were just rude people. At this point me and my fiancee' left to eat somewhere and we walked out to find somewhere else to eat. Upon return one of the bartenders was complaining to my sister that our party was very difficult to work with.

The Wyndham rescued us. We originally chose to stay at B&B. After the ceiling collapsed at 1:00am, we hurried to find another hotel. The Wyndham was our first stop and we were treated greatly. They gave us a great rate with a complimentary breakfast and valet parking for the night. The rooms are decorated very well and I loved the lobby and the restaurant. The breakfast was excellent-much better than we would have had at any B&B.

Best accidental discovery. Historic, but not rustic.

This is a beautiful hotel located in the French Quarter of It's location is great for seeing the museums and restaurants. We had a double room. We expected a double queen but it turned out to be two double beds. Not great. And they were soft, way too soft. The staff was friendly when there was any interaction but there really wasn't much need for any. One feature I need to mention is the courtyard. It is very pretty with a nice fountain. On Sunday were able to hear all of the church bells. Very enjoyable. Not sure I would stay here again with all of the other options available but it is a nice hotel.

Excellent! The staff were very nice! The room was cleaned daily. As for the food, why would you eat at the hotel when you have ALL of Charleston to enjoy?! Fleets landing, poogans porch, stars, jestines kitchen etc. Get out and enjoy the local food and culture.

Staff, location, amenities — all great! The rooms were recently remodeled and very nicely done and comfortable.

I tried to like this hotel — I really did. I am forced to up my zero star to 1 because the staff was very upbeat and friendly and it is a nice hotel on the surface. The breakfast is very good (not earth shattering) but good and a good value for hotel breakfasts. Now, peel away the surface and discover the grit underneath. We had made our reservation a full month in advance of our stay. Our flight was delayed coming in to Charleston (unfortunate — but it happens) and when we arrived we were directed to our room (612) = (stay away) on the 1 working elevator. What should have been an easy 1.5 hr. Flight and check in turned into a nightmare. Because we were the last to check in, we were given the adjoining room to a suite with a PULL OUT SOFA BED as our king bed (that I confirmed a month prior). When we tried calling down, our phone was not working either. The manager, Alfonce, indicated how sorry he was and that he would make it right, unfortunately after numerous attempts to contact him and have him rectify our $280 per night bill, he never made good on his promise. Nights 2 and 3 were somewhat better in a different room (I can only imagine some other slob typing the same letter I am now about being the last one to arrive after they gave them room 612) — In any case our new room had drainage issues in bathtub (felt like I was back in my college dorm with my pre-balding roommates and a clogged bathtub) and a non-working in room movie service.

The food here was decent, however the rest of the experience was horrific. We held an event here, and apperantly their motto is NO. After every request or change we asked for was denied from the hotel manager. We paid a handsome price for the event, and were treated like we were at chuckie cheese. Never will we go here again, and would definatly never recommend to anyone, unless you want pay a lot of money and have a horrible experience.
