The hotel isn't much to look at from the front but the lobby area is decorated with some modern features and check in was swift, courteous and efficient. The room was far too hot so we requested a floor standing fan as advertised on the television welcome screen. Given the hot weather the hotel must have ran out of these so kindly moved us to another room. This was smaller and not much cooler either. We noticed when trying to get to sleep that the curtains didn't fit well so the room was illuminated throughout the night. We didn't sleep too bad despite this. The bathroom was clean and functional, and breakfast was the usual buffet style affair. Housekeeping could have been better but the hotel is well situated in the centre of the city. Whilst there were some minor issues the hotel was ok, but I probably would choose somewhere else to stay if I was to stay in Birmingham again.

Really nice hotel. The suite I stayed in was clean and tidy. Staff are very warm and welcoming. The lady who served me in the bar was lovely, it's a shame I didn't remember her name. The breakfast was amazing. Had a lot for me being a vegan. Was very happy with my short stay at Holiday Inn Birmingham and would definitely go back once I'm in Birmingham.

Great weekend. Breakfast brilliant hard to beat choices and service too. My friend needed a wheelchair to go to hospital, hotel provided one for us and all the help we need. Couldn't be more helpful. Well done everyone.

Stayed one night at this hotel, was very pleasantly surprised at the service and facilities. Arrived in the morning to drop my bag off but they checked me in straightaway and gave me a mini-suite which was fantastic as I needed a place to work that afternoon. Very comfortable bed and great work facilities both in the room and in reception.

Clean, spacious, comfortable and competitively priced rooms, furniture looked a little tired in my room, but everything worked just fine and I was very comfortable and slept well. Location is excellent with the new New Street exit, it didn't used to be a particularly nice walk and it's made shorter and nicer with the station opening more or less directly to the door. Plenty going on locally with theatres, clubs, restaurants, etc nearby. Breakfast vouchers bought the day before were good value, the breakfast was well presented and plentiful. Staff were very helpful. There's some kind of lift refurbishment at the moment so sometimes it gets a little slow/confusing. I'm sure that'll pass and indeed be most welcome.

Great stay. Room clean and up to date. Breakfast very tasty. Only mild criticism was one member of bar staff on to cater for a busy Saturday afternoon and the extractor fan and heated towel rail didn’t work. But, it’s in a great location and suited us perfectly for our hen party.

Booked a suite for my girlfriends birthday, room was really nice and clean and was happy with it. However, was boiling hot at night and the air con was facing towards the living room area rather than the bedroom. Was also noisy at night due to car horns and nightlife. Breakfast was decent, staff were friendly and couldn't really fault the hotel apart from my lack of sleep.

Very nice, modern hotel with great facilities. The location is just perfect, almost next door to the station. Breakfast was warm and delicious with a variety to select from. The room was lovely and big, with comfortable beds. Staff were friendly at check in and took our bags when we were early for check in time. Overall excellent hotel!

This hotel has a good bar area and clever work booths with charging points, the breakfast is good too. Unfortunately, that’s where it ends, I’ve stayed at this hotel 3 times now and the experience is consistent. Service and staff are appalling and put the reputation of a Holiday Inn to shame. Lost bookings, inflexibility, unhelpful — every time we have stayed with a group booking there has been a problem. I must mention the lift upgrade which is never ending, the alternative takes you through a staff access location always littered with room service trays and dirty linen. Rooms are at best average, housekeeping kept forgetting to refresh soaps in my room so I had to call reception which they promptly solved to their credit. It’s a less than glamorous end of town so be careful with this, though it is very convenient for the train and getting out to eat in the evening. I suggest not to drive, it’s £30/night to park in the safer car park — my car was broken into twice at the discounted multi-storey NCP.

Stayed 19-23 February. Five stars for all of the hotel employees. All very friendly, polite and helpful at reception and at breakfast. Noise from roadworks meant I had to request a change of room on night one. Dealt with immediately by helpful guy at reception who gave me a back facing quiet room. Thanks. Looking forward to my next visit.

Seems very new. Very good breakfast with wide choice. Near new street. Staff are helpful. Rooms are a good size and well maintained. Issue first night with being on the first floor above 24/7 roadworks. Staff were very understanding and moved without any issue. Recommended. Will use again.

First impression not helped by seeing a mouse cross our path by the 1 working elevator. In our room the air con heater didn't work. The bed had visible damage to it and the shower was leaking when turned on. The staff however were welcoming and as helpful as they could be. Renovation is needed to make it worth the money it costs to stay there, even with it's convenient location. Have stopped in a number of hotels nearby that have actually cost less but were much nicer. Be sure to ask for a room heater if the air conditioning is broken.

Stayed here while on a business trip for a couple of nights, the staff on the check in desk were friendly and helpful and also explained where everything was, including the breakfast! Which I have to say was probably the highlight of my stay. Really nice choice of foods. The bar area is modern and serves many different drinks. If you don't like heights make sure you book a room on 1st floor, I was up high and the views were quite good considering. All in all, this is a nice hotel for a short stay or an overnight visit to the city.

The Holiday Inn has been at this location for years and is in a great spot. Literally a minute's walk from New Street station and you're not too far from anything from places to eat to nightclubs and bars. Staff were friendly and helpful, rooms, clean and tidy. Our room was by one of the lifts and could sometimes fall victim to noisy guests waiting there but this never lasted long. Parking was £20 for 24 hours or £18 for 12 at the near by New Street NCP. All in, a very decent hotel. Would visit again.

Wonderful the rooms clean and comfortable the breakfast tasty and plentiful. The staff are faultless friendly and courteous. Especially Matthew who booked us in and the lovely Yvonne at breakfast. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Really nice modern Hotel. Great food selection. Only problem is the lift. It is easier to walk if you're on the lower floors. Or else you wait for 5/10mins just during the busy periods.

My word a Saturday night stay here was an experience never to be forgotten, we booked a night here due to the location to the Symphony Hall for a show we were going to see, the room was on the fifth floor and quite small but just right for a nights stay. The only criticism with the hotel is the air conditioning wasn't working and the room was quite warm and we couldn't open the window due to what could only be described as a scene from a film happening in the street below. We got back to the hotel about 11:00 o'clock and had a drink in the lovely bar area even one of our party managed ate a Donna kebab purchased from the shop across the road in there as well we all retired to our rooms had a cup of coffee in the room from the facilities in the room we noticed that the road directly below us wasn't getting any quieter we opened the window and watched for a little while then about 12:30 got into bed thinking that the noise would quieten down we were still hoping this about 05:00 and then 06:00 o'clock when we gave up and had a shower and went down for one of the best breakfasts we've had. All in all if you are a party animal or its mid week it's good place to stay if a little expensive if you want a quite nights sleep look elsewhere.

Dingy, knackered, icky rooms. Dated old 'brown' furniture, chipped and ready for the skip, stained carpets, stained chairs ready for the skip with tired and threaded upholstery. Only one tiny lift for all floors. Dated cream bathrooms with mould on walls and behind toilet and dodgy toilet seat. Scalding hot water that doesn't mix with cold in mixer taps. Granny like room (no offence). A hotel is supposed to be an enhancement of your bog standard room at home but not so here. More like a dodgy B&B that you wouldn't pay more than say £40 for. Staff friendly however.

Finding the hotel was easy, just look for the rather run down looking Holiday Inn. Check in was fine, staff were friendly and provided with all the information that I needed. There seemed to be only one lift to service all the 20-30 something floors of the hotel, so of course I used the stairs, which were completely illogical, with about 3 different sets that were badly sign posted around the building. The room was just about satisfactory, despite there being holes and tears in the curtains, windows that didn't shut and a shower with broken handles. The TV was not viewable from the bed which I felt was a pretty shoddy design and there were no plugs near the bed to charge any devices. Was very glad to be checking out of my hotel and onto the loud and busy street outside.

Nice room, good view. Shower was a bit on the dodgy side but great breakfast and a nice room overall. Perhaps a little cold for some despite playing with the A/C.

Perfect central location for city centre. Hotel nice and clean and modern inside. Good facilities for events.

A good overnight experience considering that the cost was so low. Clean. Friendly and useful staff. I would definitely recommend.

Really enjoyed my stay. The room was fabulouslt spacious, although I don't think every one is that lucky because the ones opposite looked tighter. Decoration and television set was great, facilities were good, like a nice iron not a tacky one, mattress and choice of pillows were comfortable, service was excellent as we were allowed to check in an hour early and check out about 20 minutes late. Also had a slight issue with the sink plug hole that was swiftly dealt with. There was noise at about 5.30 am from clubbers but that can't be helped sometimes. For £50 it was great, I've paid up to £25 more for Birmingham on a weekend in other hotels and got worse service. Holiday inn and the express brand are both consistent wherever I go. Well done.

Very basic room. Bathroom poor. Very dated. 1990s decor. Appears our room had not undergone the renovations others had. Looking at other reviews on here pretty sure they have not stayed in this hotel. Will ask to see room in future before we commit. Hotel owners really need to up their game in the UK. Good location though. Coffee shop in foyer nice also so not all bad.

Good hotel. Bar/ eating/ Lounge area was well decorated and looked to be new. The room was huuuuge with a king/ super king bed and clean. I knocked a star off as an elevator was broken, not usually an issue but the one remaining was barely functional. Either a very long walk to the stairs or a long wait for the lift. Would be 5 stars normally.

Undergoing refurbishment but well worth the stay if you're fortunate to get a new room. I stay here regularly and is my first choice for Birmingham hotels based on quality vs cost. Breakfast always good and staff are helpful & friendly.

I was staying at this hotel over a weekend for an indoor music festival nearby. The hotel was situated between the venue and the train station, a five minute walk to each, making its location ideal. My room was clean and comfortable, and every experience I had with both staff and other guests while at the hotel was great. Everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly.

Comfortable, well equipped room. Breakfast all self-service, hot food acceptable quality, staff efficient in table clearing but not table cleaning. Lifts involved long wait, inadequate for number of rooms/guests.

The location of the holiday is walking distance from the John Lewis train station and the mailbox. Inside the hotel is a Starbucks which great for the morning. Air conditioning didn't work in the first room but room was quickly changed to different one. Overall stay was very good.

My boys! 194 pounds for one night although in fair time they are stolen…
Definitely won't stay here again. Smelly room. Carpet years 70… Wi-Fi I would say the limit of the ridiculous… rooms from hotel to 2 stars… shower in the bathtub Gina di Cattolica

Great service. Clean and equipped rooms.

Hotel is undergoing a major reburishment of both public areas and rooms, so a lot of boarded off areas with photos of what's 'coming soon'. Room was quite dated but had a flat screen TV, bath, shower etc. The curtains were thick, the bedding clean, comfortable bed and the shower was powerful and hot. The room was well sound proofed from the busy street below and I had a great night's sleep. Would definitely stay there again once the refurb is complete.

Fantastic staff. They were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much of a problem for them to help you with. Great location right next to the train station. Would highly recommend this hotel for short stays.

A great location the holiday Inn has. Room was perfect size for me and very clean. Staff were friendly enough, will definitely go back.

Excellent Superior / Executive rooms. Only gripe was the bar restaurant area was make shift due to on going works but this was stated at the time of booking.

Had a meeting which was disrupted by the noise from developing the Starbucks. They were using pneumatic drills on the other side of the wall but had allowed the room to be booked. We had to complain before they moved us but the noise was still disruptive. Colleagues who stayed also complained about a lack of hot water.

They appeared to be under staffed and confused, I think this may be down to their refit. I will reserve judgement until I've been again. Awful location to sleep, opposite bullring and nightclubs, constant noise. Comfy bed though.

Breakfast was so much better than when I stayed at the snow hill holiday in on the other side of town. Only thing that let it down was the very thin doors on the rooms. I could hear everything people were saying and they weren't quiet!

Rooms clean but a little shabby. Heating wasn't working so it was freezing. There were a couple of errors with bills. Food in the restaurant was fine. Service OK, nothing special.

Location of hotel is ideal, literally a minute walk from New Street station. Hotel is situated on a main road but the double glazed windows silence any noise. Buffet breakfast is as you'd expect: nothing special but it saves you leaving the hotel to look for somewhere to eat. All staff that I dealt with were lovely and very friendly.

Lovely stay for the Christmas Market, Clean room and we had a good night sleep:-). Friendly staff. Could not do enough for you. We shall come again. Mrs Meader and Mrs Jones Thankyou xx.

Good room size, excellent breakfst, shame about the maintanance team unable to fix a heating issue in one of the rooms, apart from that we'll stay again.

Havent`stayed their yet. Booked the Hotel in the wrong City and ralized within 5 min. They would not reconsider to give me a voucher or Change the guest names. Shit Service if you ask me and a rip off. Welcome to my 180 Euros. You will never ever see me in one of your Hotels again. Give the room to someone else and make double Money!

Lovely hotel, perfect location for train station and shops, fantastic staff, room very clean, cannot complain about a thing. Will definitely stay again, was on night away with friend for shopping and concert and could not think of a better place to stay.

Clean hotel with friendly staff. Well placed in the city. I've stayed here many times due to work and keep returning for quick check in, free Wi-Fi, clean rooms you can't beat it.

Not really my kind of place. There are only 8 parking places in a tiny, tight car park and the NCP round the corner has a 1.9m height limit which was no good for my Defender. They crammed me into a disabled bay so it was OK in the end but the IHG booking website I used didn't mention any parking restrictions. Got accosted by beggars in the car park.
