The key thing here is you get what you pay for. It’s certainly one of the cheaper establishments in such a busy tourist spot. Location is great, room size is small but acceptable. The whole building is dated and it’s such a shame nothing is done about the ample-sized terrace area or the bizarre neglected “garden” area. Both would be incredible facilities if they were made use of. Bar the one eager-to-please gentleman, the staff seemed inexperienced and not bothered. The breakfast selection is very small, but decent quality considering the price.

Excellent customer service from Henry the owner. Children and well behaved dogs welcomed. Perfectly located for Torquay sightseeing and the beach within 5 minutes walk. Would recommend :)

Tired and dated understand management are refurbinshing the Hotel at present. My criticism is the grounds needs a landscape gardener and also the Terrace needs attention. My room was adequate and was clean. I would stay again hoping to see improvements made.

Day 1 found used nappy in wardrobe not found while cleaning the room. Day 2 no toilet rolls put in bedroom sheets not changed tea stains on wall. Day 3 sheets still not changed, tea. Stains on wall, meal table cloth not changed stains from previous evening. Day 4 bedding still not changed, stains on wall, thought that some of the meals were just passable, some was really bad, I will never come back to this hotel ever again apart from that had a great time.

Went to the marquis hotel on a 4 night 5day tour can't recommend it enough. Pleasant staff very welcoming food very Good room excellent. As our first time coach tour it was ideal. So, thanks to all the staff and Henry (the manager) for making our stay pleasant.

Average. Expensive! Uncomfortable bed and poor breakfast. Good staff and great location.

Loved this hotel, food was lovely, rooms were clean and beds comfy, loved having downstairs room, staff were very friendly, helpful and accomodating, good entertainment, would stay here again. My son loved it he's only 8.

The rooms are of various sizes, all clean with comfy beds. A large-ish Freeview TV is available in all rooms, with free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. The food is cooked well, and enough of it to fill you up without feeling too full. There are the usual cereals and cooked breakfast in the morning, with a variety of choices for evening meals. All were delicious and tasty, and would have happily eaten more were it available. The restaurant itself is also thoughtfully laid out, with generous room between the tables, and tables are staggered and aligned with the large windows overlooking the sea in the distance, and the grounds. The hotel itself is a short walk from Torquay beach, either down the main road, or through the back of the hotel gardens and out onto Abbey Park. While there is a car park, with space for around 20 vehicles, it is very tight for coaches to gain access due to a wall opposite the entrance and the carpark going around a corner. There is live entertainment on most nights, with a variety of singers and styles. The staff were always very friendly and helpful when needed. Access to the rooms is via a card that you tap on the reader (similar to paying by card), which is a lot quicker, easier and more reliable than most hotel rooms which either use a key or require you to swipe the card in the reader. The only complaint that I had with this is that the card is white, as is the bedroom cabinets.

Attended a musical concert hosted by David Ingly. Will be re-attending the next concert.

Quite basic but fine hotel. Some rooms are quite noisy, some rather small. They seemed to have some difficulty with special dietary requirements. But friendly and helpful staff, low cost and well located for the Riviera Conference centre.

Garbage id never ever stay here again. The food was cold & I've seen bigger kiddies meals we had to eat out just to get some decent hot food unexceptable. The hotel was freezing cold & when we asked the snotty receptionist if the heating could be put on in our room we were told that she didn't think the manager would want to put it on as it didn't just heat our room but all our landing disgusting that you expected your guests to sit & shiver. One old lady told me she'd slept in her jumper & wool socks & still wasn't warm not good enough & not even worth 1star crap.

Excellent service let down by a very disappointing venue… Unclean, out of date and simply lacking… A cold cooked breakfast despite arriving as soon as they began service, TVs not working in either of our rooms and rooms that didn't look anything like what is portrayed in the website… Very disappointing…

Ok but could be so much better needs to be modernised rooms need a bit of attention but clean and staff friendly.

Fine for a stay if you aren't fussed about the quality, but a little over priced. Reasonable location for city centre.

Good for a one night stop the only downside to the hotel well in my room anyway is that it was not possible to use the toilet as the space between the wall and the bath not even a child could fit.

Stayed here weekend of 11th august. Cost £185 for two nights. Arrived and looked lovely from outside and reception sitting area and dinning room was lovely. However the room was nothing compared to pictures. Room was freezing only 1 plug socket in the room placed couple of clothing items on top of wardrobe took them down and the clothes was thick of dust. No access to a iron or ironing board in the room. Came to make the bed where when the sheet was pulled back 2 dead flies where found on the mattress. Where the radiator was the wood around that area was dirty and cracked. I waited around 20mins after ringing the bell at reception to discus these issues but no one came. Was very disappointed this break was a birthday break treat and nothing was as it was supposed to be or advertised on the pictures online. Won't be coming back shame really because everything else was great around torquay and paignton.

My son Harvey & I had a fantastic 5days stay in the Marquis hotel from the 24 of july. We arrived picked up our key, had our bags taken to our room, unfortunately the room was unsuitable so I spoke to michele the manager (very helpful & friendly) she put us in another room. The room was large & very clean shower was huge clean & very modern. Breakfast was good & plentiful so much so with all the meals, we had to give them a miss on Thursday we were still full from the days before. Mark, in charge of the large clean, fresh dinning hall was very helpful & as Harvey is only 10 made adjustments to some of his meals. (Thank u Mark) all the staff were friendly, helpful, professional & in my opinion made the hotel & stay much more enjoyable. The management needs to recognise this & look after them! The hotel has been modernised in parts & hopefully michele & the other staff will find the energy to make it shine as bright as they do. A big thank you to Dan. If it wasnt for him on the phone when I rang to inquire about the hotel & what Torquay has to offer we may not have gone. So glad we did Harvey & I made some great memories with some very nice people we met on the coach & holiday. Hope to return soon. Paignton zoo is a must (they have animals) haha.

What a surprise. At the low cost my expectations weren't high, but I was pleasantly surprised. My single room was very clean and well appointed. Toiletries, hairdryer, plenty of tea etc. Nice breakfast in a dining room with a lovely view. Staff service was excellent, friendly and helpful. I often stay in chain budget hotels when working: this was cheaper and better.

The staff was really attentive we really enjoyed our stay and our 2 dogs love it as well… We will be staying here again THANK YOU.

Excellent. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful room was spacious and well appointed. Food was good and plenty of it. Would come again and recommend to others.

Room was very basic, small and tired looking. No hot water on one of the mornings and they were not very sound proof. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. Would have complained but for less than 70 pounds for 2 nights B&B for 2 people I guess we got what we paid for. I wouldn't look to go back in a hurry though.

Clean rooms, pet friendly, and nice breakfast included. The hotel common areas could use some updating to be a little more welcoming but it does look like they are currently refurbishing.

Great service and wonderful staff my first time and made us feel very welcome.
