Lovely hotel. Really enjoy the Womens empowerment theme. Room service was not good at all but other than that it was a really nice stay.

Here from Alabama for 25th anniversary, hotel is gorgeous and view is great, BUT…
They said they only clean room on third day, I told them any time after 11am would be fine. We arrived on Friday and room has not been cleaned, trash is piling up. They can’t clean until tomorrow.
That beautiful rooftop area, can’t have any access to it after 4pm Sunday through Wednesday because of the pool and the restaurant is not open. That also means, no food in hotel on any of those days.
So forget relaxing with a view at the end of a long day around the city.
You have to call room service to get ice and once they forgot to bring it.
It started out great here, but it has quickly become very frustrating.
UPDATE: They picked up trash and brought fresh towels. They offered to allow access to rooftop until 5 pm TONIGHT, but that is only another 45 minutes from now and I’m so aggravated that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it.
I wanted a sunset experience like in their photo on this page and website that they promote, and I JUST learned that there will be no way that can happen.

Great time with A Tour of Her Own learning about the stories behind the art in the hotel. Very inspiring and a beautiful setting.

All the staff but the female bartender on the rooftop bar were super helpful and friendly. We were enjoying a great conversation with a couple from Africa at the bar when the DJ music literally blasted us off our high top seats with the beautiful view onto stools so we could move and still hear each other if we shouted. Our requests that they lower the volume were ignored. We left a good hour before we would have if they'd had any concern for their guests.
Fortunately, the front desk staff were responsive and concerned about the comfort of their guests. Two tries at the rooftop, so thumbs down. Five stars for the desk and valet.

Aggressive and unsafe environment created by hotel staff. I and a friend were assaulted by a hotel staff member and hotel manager on duty did nothing to assist not even call any authority.

The customer service from the staff is outstanding. They helped me get a package to a guest who was staying there at Christmas with no trouble at all. When the same guest injured themselves sightseeing and needed to come home early they did everything they could to accomodate his needs.
If I am ever in Washington, this is where I will be staying.

Had a wonderful experience here! Chris and Dave where extremely helpful and nice. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice hotel. You’re only a block away from some amazing restaurants also.
Cannot wait to stay here again next year.

One of my favorite Kimpton experiences. Loved the location and room style. Friendly staff and good food, we will return! I will say however that the service at the one we stayed in in New York was better.

Chic hotel with a nice rooftop pool and lounge. Loved the decor in the room and the view from our room was a nice touch. The location was perfect for date night with my husband. Only negative thing was the elevators. There are 3 but only 2 were working and they were extremely slow. There also was no service elevator so many times you were sharing an elevator with the service employees with large racks or carts that pretty much filled the tiny elevator. Outside of that the stay was great and we will definitely stay here again when we want a night in DC.

Hotel was great. Got in late (after 10pm). The front desk clerk checked me in with no delay, upgraded my room to one with a better view, and offered me a water bottle or glass of wine since I had missed happy hour (I took the wine). The room was nice, with a large TV (plenty big enough to use as a second monitor for my laptop from the bed. They even let me borrow a phone charger (no not for me, but for my colleague who stopped by so we could do some work). The fitness center was modest but more than enough for me with 2 treadmills, some elliptical machines, and some free weights. Great stay as always.

Wonderful hotel with incredible amenities and and staff. This was my second stay in this hotel and I was easily more satisfied than the time before. Free wine in the lobby from 5-6 and a great roof top pool made for wonderful tools to help relax. Only real complaint was that the staff seemed stretched thin and there were times that they were out of spare blankets, but this is to be expected since a convention was going on.

My husband took me here for a Birthday getaway. Nice, clean rooms. Awesome location! The hotel is currently under construction but it was never an inconvenience. **BE WARNED** This hotel has valet parking only and it is $50+ tax per NIGHT.

The location is good. It's right at Thomas Circle so it's basically in the center of the city and easy to get to most places. My two biggest complaints: (1) It's so hot. When I arrived, the lobby was like a sauna. And my room was also very warm. I turned down the AC but the room was always at least 3 degrees warmer than the setting. I think the heat also made the hallways smell a little mildewy. (2) There was a time when I went to the front desk and no one was there. I had to wait almost 5 min before someone came to help and the woman in front of me said she'd been waiting for at least 5 min before that. They were super nice once they came from the back, and I'm guessing they were just understaffed, but still annoying.

I am staying here currently for three weeks with my dog on a business trip. I originally picked the hotel because it was dog friendly but I have to say that the staff and service here is amazing. Ezekiel at the front desk greeted me with wine and dog treats/toys for my dog and Baby Dahl, I believe is her name, so kindly brought him a dog bed and helped tremendously yesterday. Totally recommend & happy to be here for a long stay.

Beautiful views, very cool rooftop bar. Room was modern and romantic. Lots of stuff nearby. Walking distance to clubs, restaurants, and sightseeing. Concierge pointed us in the wrong direction twice so maybe rely on Google rather than the front desk for information.

Really enjoyed our experience, found the staff very nice and the location is ideal. Would’ve loved a coffee pot in the room and the overnight parking rate was steep but we would visit again definately.

I am at the hotel now and I am extremely disappointed. For a 4 star hotel I at least thought I would have a bathtub. The hotel looks cheap, the lobby is horribly decorated. The rugs in the elevators are disgusting. This is definitely not a high end hotel. I tried to order room service and the gentleman on the phone basically talked me out of it. The rooftop is decent but that is it.

Excellent hotel, we brought our dog on this trip and this hotel could not be more pet friendly. They also do a happy hour in the lobby every evening with free wine for all. The rooms were great and clean and the location was perfect for walking to all the sights and Metro station.

Gem of a hotel! I just had a great stay at the Kimpton Donovan. This was my first stay at this hotel and first at any Kimpton branded hotel. I was a bit nervous when I booked because the price was extremely reasonable considering the great location. Check in was smooth and the front desk staff courteous. Room was clean and the bed super comfortable. The room is a bit on the small side (not cramped by any means) however that is to be expected downtown and was perfect for me. Cleaning staff does a great job. I didn’t go to the restaurant or use any of the hotel amenities, so I can’t speak to those. Two things just to be aware of: 1. They will place an immediate hold of $200 for incidentals and 2. There is a charge of $26 a day for a resort fee that you will pay at checkout. As long as you know about this it won’t be a surprise and you can factor that in when price comparing. The hotel is in a great safe area and close to the Whit House, many restaurants. The metro is a short walk as well. Upon checkout, the gladly stored my bag while I attended meetings the rest of the day. All in all, I recommend this hotel and will stay here on my next business trip.

First and Only stay at a Kimpton property. From the lobby to the room is dirty and unkempt. I guess the giveaway should be that they allow all pets for no fee (Note the stain by the front door). Room was filthy and gross in my opinion. Hairs that were not mine, shorty repairs, damaged carpet, dust, dim lighting… it was not ideal on many fronts. Honestly, if it were not for the friendly bellhop I would give it a 1 Star.

Very nice hotel. We stayed there at the last minute with family. The service was top notch across the board and we felt very well cared for. A really great team.

The Donovan Hotel was amazing and the service was outstanding. One employee that stood out the most was Michael Porter and he did an incredible job of accommodating all of my family’s needs. Access to overnight parking is extremely convenient and the food at the restaurant on the first floor was outstanding. If I ever stay in Washington D. C. The Donovan Hotel will be the only place I stay!

The experience from beginning to end was excellent. I had a late flight and didn't get there until about 2am. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly (genuinely friendly). The rooms are clean and chic; they look exactly like the photographs. On my next trip I will definitely staff here again.

Nice hotel, would recommend and happily go back. The staff were very friendly and approachable and helped us out a few times. Location is great, 3 blocks from the metro with lots of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. We also walked to the main sights and it wasn't too far. Rooms are a bit dated, but nice enough.

As with most Kimpton properties this is a chic, trendy boutique hotel. I really enjoyed staying here and the staff was really friendly and attentive. This is coming from a 200+ nights a year guy (mostly Marriott properties). The room's bathrooms are quite unique. This hotel is also pet friendly.

This place is amazing. It’s nice to have a hotel reflect on its pictures from customers. Love to stay here again. But it would be nice to let know that the restaurant will be not serving due to a private party. Overall this place is amazing.

Had a fantastic stay at The Donovan. We were greeted upon arrival by Kris with a pleasant "We were expecting you" and it got better from there. All of the staff were fantastic, pleasant and professional but also "real" and truly friendly. The rooms are comfortable and clean. I appreciated the fact that a room key was necessary in the elevator to access the lodging floors of the Hotel. Had a great and unique meal at Zentan one night and took the staff recommendation for a wonderful breakfast at Commissary Restaurant near by. Key component of the successful stay was the location. We walked to restaurants, monuments and museums. Even took a night stroll to the White House to unwind after our long day of flights and our late arrival. DC is a walkers dream and the Donovan is perfectly located to take advantage of it all. Thanks For a Pleasant Stay.

Great hotel with. Amazing service. Got. Several texts beginning in AM saying. Room was ready for check in. Fab upgrade to huge suite! Spotlessly clean, tons of space. Too bad only 1 night. Hotel sent up champagne and cupcakes for my birthday, arranged for an Uber to Union station. Staff was excellent. Only complaint was that I had to leave!

Room was nice, clean and comfortable, but getting it was a bit hard. Our reservation clearly stated a king size bed but we were assigned a queen size one. When we realized this we complained and were assigned the right room but when they initially gave us the queen sized they still charged us for the king so that's a dubious practice.

Nice hotel, rooms good size. Located Thomas Circle 14th Street, which was within walking distance to the plenty of shops. The hotel offered wine and sushi every evening a 5pm (freely) which was most enjoyable after a long day of walking about.

Friendly staff, nice rooms, funky but not in a weird way. Good location, but that's relative. Happy hour is a nice touch. Good cocktails, good, scene on roof but unfortunately terrible service. Like the coffee in the lobby but I think I'd still prefer it in my room.

Tired hotel in need of capital investment. Cold shower one morning as hot water was not working. Good location but better options for the rate charged. Dirty elevators, dates decor, cracked sink and mildew smell throughout hotel. Plus hidden resort fee is a joke. This is no resort! Will not be back.

Not thrilled. Look out for hidden "resort fee" on top of room charge. Also got charged for items I did not consume from the "honor bar, " although they did eventually refund them. Breakfast was ridiculously expensive with poor service. Also had a long wait at check in with two people at front desk busy tapping at their computers, apparently too busy to bother with a guest. For the price you can do better elsewhere.

10am at check in with Maggie: Maggie is the best! She offered me a bigger room at no extra charge that was ready now, or to wait a few hours. I really wanted the room I reserved so I opted for the wait, then she found me a room asap! Got to check in early and get cleaned before hitting the conference. Thank you for the exceptional customer service! 7am upon calling the hotel: Already getting a below AVG review in my book. Upon making the reservation I asked for early check in, but after speaking to guest services rep Chris on the day of my arrival he said it's not possible. I hope the rest of the trip goes smoothly.

I don't think I've stayed at a Kimpton before, but this one had good reviews and I booked through reward points and was excited. My wife and I just needed a place to sleep while we were looking at apartment complexes in the area, and I thought this would be a great place to stay and show her a nice boutique hotel in DC. Our first experience was walking into the lobby which was… dark and uninviting. It literally felt like being in a basement, or a dungeon. Very weird design choices and didn't feel like a comfortable place at all. I know boutique often means unique design, and I know Kimpton Hotels differ, but this one is a miss. Our second experience was talking to the front desk guy, who was certainly very friendly, but oddly told us we had been upgraded to a room with two double beds. He kind of slipped that in there and it took me saying uh, wait what? We booked a king. He then was just kind of weird about it, offering us to stay in the king if we want, or take the "upgraded" room since it has more space. I eventually just said OK, I guess we'll take the upgraded room, but once we got up there we thought it was just silly. It's a room with two beds, instead of a room with one King Bed. That's really the only difference so I wouldn't much consider it an upgrade.

The bathroom wall is not see through! The light does shine through which is a lovely feature but you cannot see the person in the shower! The lobby is large enough to accommodate a large amount of people and the free wine hour was much appreciated by us all. One reviewer likened the lobby to a large closet and all I can say is that I'd love to see their home! It's a reasonable sized lobby with lots of seating. Another complained about the fridge well we had plenty of room in our fridge to accommodate a full bottle of milk, prepackaged fruit salad and some chocolate bars. I didn't expect there to be an empty full sized fridge. Lovely hotel with fabulous staff. Highly recommended.

This what my daughter said tries to look high class but ghetto Boy was she right! So anyone who as auto ammune problems the shampoo conditioner and soap bottles are reused they top the bottles off GROSS! We will never stay there again and these hotels that charge for parking don't you get enough for the room rental City life is definitely not for me!

Wow! That is the only way to describe the amazing service provided. Check-in was easy. The front desk went out of their way to ensure we had the best room for our honeymoon. The team at Donovan even provided us with a "hand written" happy honeymoon card! P. S it is also a great location with a short walk to the white house. Thanks again to the team at donovan. I will recommend you to all my family and friends.

Really enjoyed the stay. Valet was fast, the room was clean and the staff at the front desk were helpful. The hotel is positioned near a few really good places to eat, including one accessible right from the lobby. Wi-Fi was surprisingly fast. I was able to get speeds of about 9mb a second down. All the bathrooms and facilities were functioning and clean. I really enjoyed the hotel and would stay there again if I had the opportunity!

Great restaurants and bars located nearby. The rooms are sleek, modern, and comfortable. Not too much traffic noise at night. Walking distance to The Whitehouse, get a cab for any other monuments or museums.

Loved everything about the hotel! I saw an emphasis on little details that I haven't seen in other hotels, the spiral showers were very refreshing and fun! And the bed was one of the more comfortable ones around… I wish I was there in the summer; so I could of enjoyed some rooftop pool shenanigans… Not to mention that the white house is a 10 minutes walk from here.
