I attempted to check-in to hampton inn garner approximately 5pm 12/30/2017. I told receptionist whose name tag read Barbara that my reservation was underneath xxx xxxx. She looked it up and asked if I was xxxx. I said "no my name is ashley, xxx xxxx is my mother. " She scoofed and asked "well is she coming? " I said "no, my name should be there. "She said "oo I see it here but shes going to have to be here. " She asks for my ID. I pass it to her in her hand and she looks at it and then placed it on the counter in front of me, expecting me to pick up from there. I said that that shouldnt be necessary since everything was already handled and paid for and called my mother on my phone for confirmation. While I stood at the counter I told my mother that the receptionist said she would have to be present in order for me to be admitted to checkin. My mother said no, that wasnt right. While I was speaking with my mother. Barbara got on the phone and began speaking with the manager. I got off the phone and waited for barbara to finish on phone as well. Before getting off the she made a joke about having to call back if she was attacked. She got off the phone and said that she spoke with her manager and that my mother wouldnt have to be present but that they needed a credit card on file. I told her the reservation was already paid for but she said that didnt matter. I again called my mother and repeated what barbara said. My mother asked if whoever I was speaking with was the manager. I told her "No shes not the manager" and as soon as I said it Barbaras demeanor stiffened further. My mother asked to speak with barbara so I held out the phone to her. She glanced down at the phone and ignored it. I stood with my hand outstretched for a few moments before realizing she didnt intend on taking the phone or even acknowledging it. I told my mother Barbara wouldnt take the phone and she said that she would call hilton customer service instead and then call me back. I sit down in a chair in the lobby and waited. About 10 minutes later barbara receives a call and I hear her speaking with someone about my reservation. She says shes the "acting manager on duty" hotly and that she cannot "call up my manager at his house and simply pass the phone over the counter". After that conversation, Barbara softens and speaks warmly to a couple different customers as they pass through the lobby. Another 10 or 15 minutes pass and my mother calls and asks if I am willing to still stay at the hotel given the climate thus far. I say I will and she tells me to comply and put a card on file and that she will will worker further to rectify the incident at a later time. I go back to the desk at 5:45 pm and ask Barbara what all I need to do to get checkin. She asks for the card. I give it to her and she asks if Im in town to celebrate the NYE festivities. Clearly trying to make a point of backtracking on her previously nasty attitude. I say no that I am sick and wait to finish checkin. She says she sorry to hear that and offers me some water and crackers both of which I decline. Another 5 minutes pass and Barbara is having difficulty with the computer system. She apologizes and says she will let me into my room herself and that when she figures out the system will slid my keys under the door to me. We walk down the hall and she lets me into a room with two queen beds. When she comes back down the hall I tell her that when I called earlier in the day to confirm my reservation it was under a king size non smoking. She says she can change the room and I go back to the desk. She gets back on the computer and is able to finish my checkin and provide me keys.
