We just got back home after spending the weekend at The Evelyn. The staff was beyond awesome, namely Kayla who found out our purpose of the visit (son's engagement proposal) and she highlighted the whole weekend with extra's! She printed and framed a picture of the proposal, sent a yummy cake from Eataly, and even called her friend at Catch to "treat us right" with champagne at dinner. I loved this quaint hotel and will always try to stay there when we return. Thank you Kayla for such a memorable stay… you are a gem for that hotel!

Excellent responsive customer service, striving to offer a great experience as the hotel works through some teething issues. Rooms are fresh and clean, with upscale fittings. The bathrooms have rain showers and heated floors. Air conditioning runs strong, quiet and cold. Beds and linens are comfortable. Rooms away from the street are fairly quiet. Small inconveniences: the hotel bar can't charge back to your room, and one of the elevators always stops on the fourth floor.

The Evelyn is a great hotel. I have been staying here a lot over the past year and a half and they are finally done with the renovation. The lobby is beautiful and there are now a two dining options, a Cafe and a full restaurant. Only downside is no more complimentary coffee since the Cafe is attached. Staff is always super awesome. They do need to replace their irons though. The last few room I had, the irons had black/brown burnt build up on them. No way am I risking ruining a shirt. I'm sure they would bring a proper one if I asked but I shouldn't have to. Rooms are small but hey, it's new york.

Nice cosy yet luxurious feeling in the middle of Manhattan! Close to basically everything, either walk anywhere you want or take the subway train.
Loved the room, fresh bed & showers/bathroom, small gym for the one who wishes to workout, restaurant inside and a shop. Only thing was the somewhat high price but you must expect that in the middle of NY. By bus — about 1 hour from Brooklyn, 1 hour from New Jersey
Close to Grand Central, Public Library, biggest Macy's in the world, so many shops it's crazy.

Great hotel with a nice feel and aesthetics. The room felt a bit small, but not cramped, and the room and bathroom were always kept clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and willing to help when I had questions about the area. Definitely recommend, and its close to subway station and walking distance to other tourist destinations. The hotel is a part of a chain with other hotels in the area, and provide a complimentary walking tour to the guests of the hotels. Definitely worth trying if you're new to the area and want to get a condensed feel of the area.

Perfect location in Manhattan. We had an awesome time in new york at this hotel! Very clean rooms, quiet (thereby we were able to sleep very well), friendly and helpful staff. Our toilet was clogged once but got fixed immediately. Special thanks to John, who gave us very good advises for discovering the city, asked more than once if everything was okay and made us feel very comfortable and as home. Thank you!

Lovely hotel and staff. Rooms were tastefully decorated, with great attention to detail. Location was brilliant — just a few minutes from the empire state building. Lots of great shops and restaurants nearby. The only downside was that our window looked onto the wall only a few feet away so was therefore dark with no view. There was also building work going on which meant some disruption in the foyer and no bar / restaurant.

We got a same-day rate of $219. It was clean and fine for the 20 hours we were in town, but please be aware that until July the lobby is under renovation and there is currently no seating, restaurant, etc. The plus is that it is Centrally located, lots of good neighborhood food options and close to subway lines and Madison Square Park. The staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and as always in NY, small.

Was in New York for 3 days and stayed two nights at the Evelyn. It’s a super cute nyc style hotel and even though we had some issues with our room upon arriving, John the manager took care of us and fixed the issue right away! It was just a minor misunderstanding on their system! Other than that it was a very pleasant stay and the room was super cute. Best shower EVER. Already looking into booking for this fall! Loved it!

The hotel is very clean and well located. Quite expensive on the other hand for not large rooms.

Totally disappointed! They are going a renovation, everything is cover with plastics, dust and dirty.
There’s no lobby, no restaurant, no breakfast. Just one lift in the middle of plastic and dust. We made a reservation in January 2018 for April 2018 through Booking and they never informed us about what was going on. It was a completely disappoint surprise, when we arrived and saw that mess. They didn’t apologize properly and haven’t been honest or transparent. In the end we cancel the reservation and find had to find another place to stay in a couple of minutes!
Very very disappointing! Be careful because they don’t have a transparent warning explaining this on their website.
And we were not the first clients to get such a surprise! Unacceptable!

Hotel was under renovations so we were not fully able to enjoy amenities. Room size was tight but comfy bed. When visiting or on business I would not expect to spent too much time in the room anyway. Staff was eager to help. I would consider staying here or other Triumph hotels in NY.

Very sketchy, dishonest, and rude. My girlfriend booked this place on a 3rd party app that made it appear to be a 3 star hotel (not the Evelyn's fault but still quite interesting). When we arrived, our room was not ready and the staff asked if we wanted to check our bags. My gf was having second thoughts, and said she would just hang onto her. Bag for now. The staff, under the assumption that neither of us spoke Spanish, called her a stuck up princess. We cancelled and went elsewhere. I still was billed for the room and when I called the third party app to sort it out, they reached out to the Evelyn. The manager claimed my girlfriend and I went upstairs and spent over an hour there before leaving. In reality, we never left the ground floor of the hotel and left within 20 minutes of arriving. After I told the third party that none of that was true they did an investigation which resulted in me needing to contact the Evelyn for a refund… needless to say, I never was refunded and ended up paying for a room I never entered. Something was very weird about that place, as if there was a side operation being run out of the basement. It wouldn't surprise me one bit. Anyway, to sum it all up, the staff bad mouths people in Spanish, has no problems with lying over the phone, and gives off very bad vibes. Stay somewhere else.

I would still give The Evelyn Hotel 5 stars even though they are currently renovating their lobby. Check-in process was smooth and easy and Kevin Barnes, the General Manager was beyond hospitable. The room is in pristine condition (bathroom is very clean, sheets and towels feels fresh, furniture and amenities were in great condition) They have a safe and mini cooler for a few bottled drinks. Overall, we had an amazing stay. Great staff, great location, well-kept rooms. Thumbs up!

Beautiful and thoughtfully done. High-quality throughout. In the room I stayed in, the layout and design made the room feel elegant, even though it was of their smallest room type (for travelers new to New York City: be aware that hotel room there tend to be much smaller than comparable options elsewhere in the US). That smallest room is a good fit for one person, and very conducive to relaxing after a day of business. Parties of two might do well to opt for a larger room, if they can. The location is excellent, also — — an easy walk to abundant, varied dining options and to Madison Square Park.

First time staying in this hotel and also my first time staying in the city. I normally don't complain about these things but this is worth my time typing this out. This hotel has no parking but they offer valet parking for $50 per night and there are no in and out privileges. The rooms are very small. There's half a HOT closet. The fridge on the bottom, a safe on top of that which gets hot because of the fridge and then hangars on top. There are no dressers. The windows are poorly insulated so we heard EVERYTHING going on outside. Construction up the street lasted till 10pm and started back up at 6:30am. We had a fly problem. We were killing/swatting them away all night. When we tried to turn the temp up it took an hour for the heat to turn on and the same when we tried to cool down the room. The lock didn't properly work on the door and the phone didn't have a hot keys (front desk, etc) and zero didn't work. We had to use our cell to call the front desk. The only good thing about this hotel was the heated bathroom floor and the toiletries which smelled good. I will never stay here again.

I love the character of my room, which have an overall Gatsby vibe. If you need space to lounge or a family area, I recommend getting the executive suite. There is a living area — which can seat four people, separate from the actual bedroom. You literally can throw a mini 1920's party, close the door and sleep too. The staff was super friendly and the hotel is located in an ideal neighborhood. Transportation was not an issue since it is near many subway stations. My boyfriend and I stayed here for our anniversary and the hotel surprised us with a bottle of wine in our room. Highly recommend if you are need accommodation in NYC, and if you need to be in the center of everything.

For my first time in New York I am very happy that I decided to stay at The Evelyn Hotel. When it came to looking for somewhere to stay I was overwhelmed with the options available. It was just by chance that I stumbled across an ad online advertising it. I went on their website immediately and by the looks and sounds of it I was hooked. The Hotel has recently undergone a renovation and they are expanding the ground floor lobby area (currently as of Dec 2017) this hasn’t impacted my stay whatsoever. The hotel is very neat and tidy and the staff are ever so friendly. We stayed on the 12th floor which was Hugh of the street. Saying that however this area of town is not as busy as those areas from 31st St to 51st St. The local of this Hotel puts you within a 5-10min walk to three different Subway lines (very handy with accessing different parts of the city). There is no breakfast option however all guest may help themselves to complimentary tea and coffee and daily pastries. Now the rating — I gave 4 out of 5 for two reasons; 1 — there are only two elevators for the Hotel, with one being out of service for a good 3 hours on one day and the 2 — we stayed for 11 nights and on 3 occasions we were left with no sheet after our room was made… all in all I would highly recommend this hotel for cleanliness as well as their climate control. The air conditioning is perfect and works very well. The beds are super comfy and the bathrooms are very roomy.

The room is small comfortable and clean but they literally keep the coffee under STRICT lock and key until 7ish a. M. It’s on rashins here! Now have been told no coffee because it’s a holiday! Unfortunately it’s Christmas And apparently they don’t serve coffee and Christmas. Disappointed there are no coffee makers in the rooms.

Stayed in a deluxe queen room. Beautiful decor! Room was spotless and bed was very comfortable. Would stay here again and recommend to friends. Great location as well.

Had a good stay at The Evelyn! Rooms were small, but that's to be expected in NYC. We had a King bed in our room which left less than 2ft on either side of the bed, but again, that's NYC. Don't expect giant rooms. Room was clean and well stocked. Our mini fridge did not work, though. Bathroom was a comfortable but small size, and shower was a good size. Staff was helpful and accommodating. Lobby is under construction so a little small, but not bad. Only major complaint I have is the paper thin walls. We could hear housekeeping in the hallways around 8am each morning which woke us up. Besides that, we couldn't hear other guests in their rooms. Overall, I'd recommend for an easy and convenient stay in a clean hotel near all the major sights.

Location was convenient for getting around. Deluxe king room was larger than we thought it would be, based on previous experiences in other NYC hotels. Staff was helpful and nice, even remembered me from a phone call a day before. We we're in room 1104 and could hear noise on the street from time to time (sirens, horns, etc). It didn't really bother us, but it may be annoying to some. Morning coffee was good. We will probably return the next time we are in New York, we've really enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is fine but it does nothing to stand out. As others have noted the rooms are tiny — — our room had a bed and a small desk and just enough room to walk around them. The bathroom is a shower (no tub), sink, and toilet, and just enough room to stand in front of them. The hotel is clean and employees do their jobs adequately. For the money I'm not sure that's enough.

Good location and friendly staff. The first impression I had when I walked into our room was that I should be peeling potatoes in the belly of the Titanic. If you like to pay good money for "cozy" and by that I mean tiny closet, no drawers, a window that looks into the darkness and like to walk sideways around the bed, then this is the place for you. To be honest, this may be the standard in mid-town Manhattan for the price point. It was one of the least expensive hotels I could find but still quite pricey for the dates we selected. Bed was fine, water was hot, and the room was clean and that's what's important. Although the color choices including the floor make it look a bit older and dustier than necessary. I think if they had all the lights turned on when we walked in the room, the first impression may not have been so shocking. It looked better once you turned on the overhead light, desk light, over the bed lights, and bathroom lights all at once.

Expensive. But clean and convenient. In the morning free drinks and buns.

Charming hotel near the flat iron building that combines historical and modern elements. Very nice service at the reception. However, during my stay the lobby was rebuilt, which creates a bit of restlessness (but no noise).

Great stay in a very good hotel, established in a central part of Manhattan. Comfortable bed, good shower and very nice amenities. The pastries and coffee offered during morning time were a plus.

Very good stay, the rooms are re modeled so at the moment it was all new and in good condition. Very complete room (air conditioning, free WY, microwave, TV and minibar) the very comfortable bathroom ideal for a shower after touring the streets of new York all day. Very quiet to be able to rest, at the reception had not yet re modeled so at first sight does not look in nice conditions but is balanced with the warm attention of its employees all from the receptionist to the porter and the housekeeping are very nice and Willing to help. And as if it were little in the entrance hall in the morning there is coffee dispenser, milk and sweet and savoury biscuits which is enough to not have to go anywhere else to have breakfast unless you pretend to have another type of breakfast with fruits and so forth. All day there are water dispensers where you can recharge your personal bottle.

I liked the/calidad price ratio and the attention.

Smooth check in process, clean stylish room, beautiful bathroom and nice shower. Great location and restaurants — ate at Ilili for dinner and The Smith for brunch (both just a block away). We were also able to walk about a half mile or so to see a broadway play. We left early on Sunday to catch a flight (able to take the subway to the airport was also a plus) however they had creamers and stirring sticks out for coffee but no coffee out in the lobby. I did not see any coffee maker in the room so if there is not a way to make coffee in the room I think they should have had coffee out in the lobby! This was at 7:30 on a Sunday so the two main coffee shops around did not open until 8… we did find a deli around the corner with great coffee but that is why this hotel looses a star!

Cramped Rooms. Queen Beds are more like Twin Beds. With 4 Adults and 4 Suitcases in the room, you won't have space to sit and move around except for on bed. Wardrobe space is good for 2 kids at best. Most importantly, their room pictures online are meant to trick you into believing that you are probably booking the best property in vicinity.

The room is small but beautiful. It's definitely different, but nice. The lobby is literally as plain as it gets and there's no restaurant. It's very very basic. If you want 100 amenities this isn't for you, but if you're good with simplicity and beauty, it's good.

The hotel is smaller than I thought but still very nice. The bed is very comfortable, and the bathroom fixtures and overall layout is really cool. Has a great shower. The thing I would say that hit me the most was the fact they have a doorman open the door for you at all times. To me, that was super cool. Would recommend, would stay again.

I can not say enough good things about this hotel! I discovered randomly online and my experience was amazing. I was in NYC for a week doing work promotions. My team needed special accommodations and had special requests to pull of successful events for our client. The staff completely went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect for us. I travel a lot and usually not this WOW'd at how amazing each and every staff member is at this hotel. Huge kudos the the entire team and upper management John and Maria. The rooms are very clean, great location and well amazing staff which made the experience so awesome. Front desk agents and bellman are the best! I highly recommend this hotel if you want a nice stay in NYC for an affordable price.

While rooms at the Evelyn may not be immense, for the convenience, location, and cleanliness, it can’t be beat. The rooms are not much bigger than the bed in the middle, and you won’t find amazing views of the city, but the beds are comfortable and the rooms clean and modern in a way that feels recently updated. The bathrooms are especially nice and even come outfitted with C. O. Bigelow items. The location is very convenient in downtown New York and it is a quick walk to Madison Square Park or Washington Square Park and the surrounding areas. The staff is friendly if not a bit slow, especially when you arrive late and just want to get to bed. Though I didn’t hear any neighbors at night, there was a little noise from the hallway, so it may be the case that the walls are a bit thin.

Had a great experience at this hotel. It was my boyfriend and I's anniversary and this was our first hotel together and we couldn't have asked for more! Clean, spacious rooms, free Wi-Fi and cable, nice showers, NO bed bugs, mini refrigerator, a safe box. The beds were so comfortable to sleep on. The check in age minimum is 18+ years old so it is so convenient because most hotels are 21+ just to check in. The refundable deposit fee was at a lower price than most hotels in manhattan. Altogether, The Evelyn hotel is the perfect place to be if you're looking for affordable, clean, nice and convenient! Will definitely being going back someday.

Great location with easy access to subway. Nice amenities and restaurants nearby. The room was big (free upgrade to suite) and clean with great TV and cable. Internet was serviceable but would cut out periodically. Only one elevator means a wait sometimes. Would stay again!

The location is great, near a good selection of food and shops as well as being close to a NQR subway stop for easy access to time square. The room was nice and well furnished with clean sheets and comfortable beds. The bathroom tile was heated as an added bonus. The room was a bit small but given the price and the simple fact that hardly any time was spent in the room because we were out all the time. The service was great and everyone was friendly and courtious. Overall an excellent experience.

The Evelyn was an overall okay boutique hotel. Check-in was fast and courtesy. There was only one operational elevator and we were on the 6th floor; therefore, we had to wait or we would have become friends with the stairs. Lobby area was nice and inviting. There was always hot tea, coffee and water available and free pastries for breakfast. I have never been in a hotel with a room this small. When you open the door, you literally walk into the bed. The bathroom was nice with heated floors. The bed was very frumpy and sunken. We had a nice view of the street and yes it is noisy but it did not affect our sleep. The walls are really thin. We had a maintenance issue and it was resolved very quickly. Also, the floors are hard wood and I slipped and fell because there was no rugs. Overall, we had a decent stay and the location is great. They do not have a fitness center at the hotel, but they will give you a voucher for $20 per day to go and work out across the street at the 24hour facility. I'm up in the air if I will ever stay here again. It's not a bad hotel, but not the best.

I really enjoyed this hotel, from the Vintage Style Decor including the craftsmanship and details, I even appreciated the one slow elevator. Although I could visibly tell others were annoyed by it, I think it was charming. Everything was clean and the staff was professional and polite. I guess we could have stayed at a modern newer hotel but somehow staying here really added to my NY experience. I would definitely stay here again. Plus it's in a very convenient location!

A well located hotel near Madison Square Park with free coffee at reception. Rooms are not too large and there is only an elevator, so first thing in the morning it takes much. It has free Wi-Fi.

Wonderful experience at The Evelyn. Undergoing renovations yes, but hardly noticeable. Elevator was slow, but only one was for guest use. Second elevator was being used for construction. Once renovations are finished, I imagine everything will be fine. Take the stairs anyway, it's better for you. Room was somewhat small yes, but who spends all their time in their hotel room in New York? The Evelyn is perfect; great location, room was clean, linens were top notch, and bathroom had new fixtures and plenty of room. Plus it won't break the bank. Front desk and other staff were more than friendly and very courteous. I cannot wait to return. I can honestly say The Evelyn has earned my business for all future trips to New York. When improvements are finished, it will be even better. It'll get there; Rome wasn't built in a day.

Overpriced service absent.

I had a terrible experience there. Got bed bug bite almost 30 times. Stilk itch now! Will never visit again.

For travelers on a budget, this is an excellent choice. The review is for hotels at comparable prices ($150 range). The outside is a bit unappealing right now because there is scaffolding up and it looks kind of dingy, but don't let outside appearances fool you. Walking in, we were warmly greeted in an open lobby that has ice water, brochures and an interactive map for guests. We took our luggage up to our floor (although they do offer a person to assist) and settled in. The elevators are small and can take awhile but when it's not busy, it's fine. The room though small was larger than the photos suggested and I think they've made good use of the small space. The bathroom has a rainfall showerhead and fantastic bath products. Note: Many other hotels in the price range are hostels or hotels that have shared bathrooms. The closet has a safe that is big enough to hold a laptop and has extra storage to put bags. The bed was extremely comfortable. Such a great relief after a full day of walking. The area is ideal because it's close to the subway and within walking distance to many lower Manhattan areas. They also have free Wifi which is great to plan out your days. Tip: A cab from JFK has a set rate + toll which plus tip comes to about $70. Best parts of the hotel: bed comfort, fantastic staff (every person we encountered was extremely friendly and helpful), and good location.

We had a fantastic stay at The Gershwin Hotel in New York. The hotel is undergoing an extensive refurbishment and our room had been recently decorated. It was stylish and comfortable, although the blinds were a little fragile (our one gripe). The staff were extremely helpful and willingly assisted us with all our queries. The location is perfect, just around the corner from the Flatiron building and a short hop away from Midtown. We would seriously recommend it.

I LOVED the Gershwin Hotel! I will definitely make it my hotel of choice next time i'm in NYC. The staff was wonderful — made excellent dinner recommendations — always smiling and happy to assist with any questions. Room was small but clean with a large window. They are going through renovations (I stayed in an un-renovated room) — however, there was no noise disturbance at all. Definitely two thumbs up from me :).

We stayed at the Gershwin the first week of June 2014. The room was very old and badly needed renovations. The toilet started leaking water and I was moved to another room. The second room was no better than the first room as it to needed to see many renovations. The rooms I stayed in looked nothing like the rooms they show on the web site. The lobby is also under renovations and does not give a good first impression. There is no restaurant and I found this very inconvenient. The good news is that the uppers floors are being renovated and guests in those rooms found them very acceptable. I cant say enough good things about the staff. They were very apologetic about the state of repairs of part of the building. Although they were working in a sub standard environment, they were always cheerful, professional and helped in many ways. They gave me excellent directions to Yankee Stadium using the subway and got me a cab for a very short ride. (cabbies do not like short fares) The hotel is strategically located to many of the sights of New York. I would go back if for no other reason than to see how the renovations turned out. It would be nice to say hi to the wonderful staff again. I'm giving it a 2 star based on the accomodations but with the anticipation that it's going to be a 4 star shortly.

The Gershwin experience was a very ultra-positive one. The staff is excellent — truly top-notch — kind and helpful at every turn. I even received a call ten minutes into arriving into my room, just to ensure all was fine and as it should be — if there's anything more they could do for me. The management and staff were fantastic, and the rooms were very comfortable. Perfect for the Manhattan tourist, assignment, etc. Loved it. Thanks for the great experience, Gershwin.

Too small, old rooms for this price category. The shower water is only warm after the first shower and changes uncontrollably from very hot to cold temperature. Light is also absent in the shower.
Everything makes the impression works after "tinkering" and neighbor's Wi-Fi better than the hotel internal (even in the lobby). The Windows are so dirty that there is no a clear view to the outside. It is also extremely loud through the single glazing. Price/performance is not true from my point of view at all. Pure rip off, a renovation would do well.

Pleasantly surprised! Superior Room very very spacious, parquet floor, functional bathroom, no king size but correct bedding, and quiet side courtyard… The staff is not super friendly but the decor pop art is very funcky, the image of the city! Very very good value for a hotel as well located in Manhattan!
