Loved the old style rooms and place. Also price cant be beat for downtown Manhattan. Would def reccomend.

Such a cute little room I stayed in overnight while preparing for an early exam. Close to the 6 train and Korean food! I felt safe being there alone as a single young lady. I’ll definitely return.

I loved Hotel 31! From the funky elevator to quaint accommodations, this is a cool retro spot in the city. Reasonably priced the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Anytime I come to New York City and need a place to stay I’m going to hook up with this place! Just slightly off the beaten path close to time square, It was close to everything but a world away!

The place is pretty expensive for the services they provide. The rooms were pretty small, it had one of those very old lifts with a channel on it instead of the new automatic doors. We were a family of 4 people and the lif could accommodate 3 at a time only and we had luggage with us too, it took us 3 rounds. There is no place to have food in there hotel. No good room service. Even Although it gave a nice feeling of Old New York hotels but a few more dollars and you can live in a way better place.

Older building. Bathroom is shared with other guests on the floor. Location is convenient though. There's also a small deli across the street that's open 24 hours if you need water or other basic needs. The subway is close as well.

If anybody is trying to find good deals on hotels visit HoteIBully. Com booked a hotel on there and they had the best rates anywhere! Fantastic location, right near it all. The rooms are tiny but functional. I mean, all you're going to be doing in them is "sleeping" right?. I was a bit perturbed by the shared bathroom situation, but they are kept spotless. I also must say that the toiletries provided were really good. Our daughter loved the shampoo. Also great that Trader Joe's in a short walk away so we had snacks before calling it a night while watching the news.

Located in the Midtown, Hotel 31 satisfied me especially as a location (5 minutes from the metro) as a cleanliness, as a kindness and as a price.
From the window you can see the top of the Empire State Building, which when in the mood, in the evening can surprise you with unforgettable colorful light games.
A restaurant for breakfasts and meals and a few minutes supermarkets of groceries.
Unfortunately in Midtown there are no silent places between horns and sirens and air conditioner fans it is better to keep the windows closed.
Impeccable cleaning and daily towel change, absolute staff kindness, luggage storage after the ckeck-out.
The only neo that does not make me put the 5 stars: in the 6 days of my stay I was not able to connect to Wi-Fi for an insufficient network for quantity and quality.
I hope they are interventions with adequate investment.

I enjoyed staying here. Subway was just a 2 block walk away. Lots of good food around. Do pay attention when booking as not all rooms come with a bathroom in the room. Never had a issue with it though. Bathrooms were never both full and always kept very clean! Was kind of nice to save time by both of us being able to shower in the morning at same time. Only complaint was when the elevators were broken we we're on floor 8 so that's a lot of stairs! Especially after along day of walking the city!

Shared bathrooms, but the staff spends several times a day to keep them clean. Small rooms, little room for two people, but on the other hand with discreet comfortrt. It was hard for us to find better at the same price. Central position, near the empire. Recommended if you have to stop two or three nights, otherwise maybe it is better to look elsewhere.

Only the location would be the reason I would recommend this hotel and why it recieved 2 stars but I’m being kind with the rating since there are hotels everywhere. Shared bathrooms, although clean for the most part. I bought into the charm, loved the elevator and was quite excited about it from the outside but the service we received was shockingly bad. I stay at a lot of hotels and travel fairly frequently, this one of the worst experiences which is a shame for my first trip to NYC. When I head back to Manhattan, I will not be staying here.

Only the breakfast is missing. Clean, well placed, friendly welcome and service and rooms very good.

Great location. Affordable accommodation. Close to Empire State Building, Grand Central, and many other sights. Very convenient. Close to subway as well. Not really a hotel — more like a boarding house renting rooms with shared bathroom which, by the way, was spotless at all times. No ‘facilities’ which a hotel usually has such as lobby, lounge, dining, coffee area — only your room which is snug and comfortable with fresh linen, clean white towels and toiletries. No coffee making facilities in room — I brought a travelling kettle and coffee with me. I enjoyed staying here. Excellent location! Across the street is a little Malaysian take-out, on the corner a pizza restaurant, a BBQ restaurant and a deli. Loads of other places to eat as well.

Location was excellent and room nice, but Wi-Fi didn't work most of the time and the hotel did not answer to any of our email-questions beforehand.

It is quiet, its staff is friendly and provides help at all times. Just consider that the bathroom is shared.

A quiet location in an old building between Park & Lexington. Rooms clean & small. No frills.

The hotel was great, very clean. It was odd that each floor shared a few bathrooms but it never became a problem. There's a sink in every room for quick washing up and brushing your teeth. They also had a TV, air conditioner and safe. The room is small but with two people we had enough room to navigate without bumping eachother. The cool elevator was my favorite part of the hotel. Definitely had a dated aesthetic but everything tied together nicely. Hotel staff was friendly.

Staff were super friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean, and well maintained. When I first read about the shared bathrooms I was a bit uneasy, but there are multiple bathrooms on each floor, with a bathtub/shower, toilet, and sink in each. Free Wi-Fi, fantastic location. This is a great deal for travelers on a budget.

Good location Smells like smoke. In the rooms there are no wardrobes/drawers for clothes, but only drying racks and floors. The rooms on the 31st Street are a bit noisy. Wi-Fi absolutely inadmissible, which has not allowed me to maintain contacts and update myself on the city of NYC!

Hotel in NY very good, excellent location. The bathrooms are shared, but in excellent condition. The architecture is old, but very well maintained and all in condition. Highly recommended.

A quaint little hotel near the heart of Manhattan, Hotel 31 is near access to everything being just a less than a mile to Times Square, and less than a block from a subway station. Accommodations are nice as well. It's small and snug which will make you feel right at home. Noise from the street was not that much of an issue. You'll hear the occasional faint horn or siren, but nothing that would keep you up at night. The shared bathroom situation was not what I was expecting, either. Each floor has two bathrooms with showers which are shared among the rooms. However, there was never a line or a wait for any bathroom and staff regularly cleaned them so you never had to worry about how someone else left them. Overall, it was a quaint little stay that made us feel right at home down in the big city.

Very nice hotel. Rooms are always greinigt. Can't complain about the staff either, always nice. And is super central to the Empire =). Here I check in again.

Basic Hotel, good location, clean but a little old, the elevator accepts only three people and it's low points. The rooms consist of two beds, a television, a night table, a cabinet for hanging clothes and a bathroom, nothing more… Reception is a little off and for the price not bad for this city.

Rooms are pretty cool. Gives you an ancient look. Its kinda self service hotel. One big catch is that the hotel has shared bathroom and loo. So one bathroom is shared amongst 4 rooms. Every room has two beds. So if there is full occupancy, 8 people will be sharing 1 bathroom.

Nice location. Nice price. Clean place for nyc. The beds are very old… update the beds and they would move up a star!

Interesting experience. The rooms are super small and the decor feels like I've just stepped into the 40's, and not in an intentional way, they just haven't renovated it since then!

This is such a quaint place to stay! I hate to review this place and let out the secret! It is within walking distance of the Empire State Building and Grand Central station. The room we stayed in was 802. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. It was a little cheaper than the YMCA near Central Park, but much nicer! The room had a sink and toiletries, TV and hair dryer. The shared bathroom was clean and everything is decorated nicely. This place made such an impression, we booked two more rooms for November when we go back! Also very near a corner deli that is wonderful!

I think this was a great hotel to stay out. Very close to many areas of interest all within walking distance. If you don't mind sharing a bathroom ( (which was a one at a time deal, not a multi-person style) ) then this is a perfect place. Room had a bed and sink as well as a TV, closet, shelving, and a desk. All the staff we spoke to were very friendly. I would definitely stay here again.

Rooms are small but complete of all amenities, kind staff in a old fashioned hotel. Mattresses are on the soft side.

Small room, but clean. Small bed, not so comfortable. Shared bathrooms. But this was the least expensive hotel that I could find in Manhattan. Also, it is near Koreatown's fantastic restaurants.

Absolutely love this hotel. We are in a room with a private bath. It is so clean and comfortable. The staff is extremely friendly. The location is fanominal. Would never stay anywhere else.

I have stayed here a couple of times and I am going back in October 2017. It's a no frills hotel which offers good value accommodation in midtown Manhattan. The hotel is old style but it is kept clean and tidy and the staff are great. Location is perfect; a short walk to 33rd station, on the 6 line, and ESB is only 10 minutes away on foot. Times Square/Grand Central can be walked in under 30 minutes. It is definitely worth considering, if going to New York.

This hotel had a great location in NYC. The room we had, had a private bathroom. The room was clean (although small, but average size for NYC standards). The staff was friendly and helpful.

I've been a sporadic guest of Hotel 31 (and their other location, Hotel 17; however, I refer to 31 for my review) for the past year or more. You can't really beat the price for the excellent location, amenities, and friendly service. Shared bathrooms and private bathrooms, you really can't complain. No outside noise of cars and traffic, no dirty beds (always clean rooms), and, believe me when I say this — I have no idea who is responsible —, the shared bathrooms are 99% all the time clean! Seriously, that's somewhat of a pleasantry, esp. Being that other shared bathrooms from other hotels I've occupied I can't say the same. And who's the guy at the front desk? I forget his name. There's several who work up front (all friendly), but this one guy… he's working tonight (Dec. 8th, 6:02pm) — — I just talked to him a few minutes ago while checking in —, and he's always smiling. Whoever he is (his name), he's actually remembered my first and last name. Seriously! Sure, it took a few stays (2 or 3), but after that, he somehow remembered who I was. Not only is this impressive of itself, but I can barely remember to take my medication in the morning, let alone eat breakfast. All joking aside (which I fail at, miserably), Hotel 31 is beyond any budget hotel. Fully furnished, smelling without odors, and always looking and feeling clean, you'll discover that to look elsewhere for a better price:value ratio is pointless.

Situated in walkable distance to most of the attractions… is a plus of hotel. And nice & comfy rooms :)

The hotel, room, and shared bathrooms were very well kept and clean. The location was very convenient. We arrived very early and they stored our bags until we arrived back in the afternoon to check in. Free Wi-Fi worked well for checking email and looking up things to do. Room was comfortable and great for relaxing and sleeping after being out all day.

Excellent hotel. It is a treasure within Manhattan. We stayed with my husband for 5 days and all very clean rooms comfortavmes, staff polite, location convenient for go to everywhere by walking, and above all excellent price. Of course we will return!

Me and my fiance came to NY for a show in Brooklyn, but we wanted to stay in Manhattan so we looked online before we left for the cheapest hotel room. We found Hotel 31. We were pleasantly surprised at how quiet, clean and quaint the hotel was. The room was small but that made it very cozy and romantic. We had a very good view of the Empire State Building from our window (Rm 510) which was awesome. There was a shared bathroom a couple rooms down but it's was very, very clean. The cherry on top was that we found a parking spot across the street directly in front of the door. Needless to say that will be our hotel of choice when staying in Manhattan.

Very Good Experience, Room with shared bathrooms. The bathrooms are always clean well with hot water. The sheets and towels clean. I highly recommend it.

The building is really old and the rooms are stuffy. Our window faces a wall. The Wi-Fi is not working very well either. Don't really recommend if you have other options.

Me and my partner stayed here over Christmas and new year it is perfect for those who wish to stay on manhatten and not pay a fortune. The hotel was very clean and though we had shared bathroom on our floor they were cleaned regularly. The staff were very friendly and helpful will definitely stay here again.

It's a hidden gem in the City! I stayed there for a week and I loved it. There were two of us, so it was snug and home like. The room was clean, with no cigarette smell or bed bugs. Great service, and free Wi-Fi. The washrooms were very clean as well! The rooms were old and beautiful, lots of old wood and Victorian style. I loved it! It's the only place The only place to stay in New York for that great of a price.

PROS: I stayed there one night. I was able to check in 3 hours early at no extra cost. Front desk was very nice. It was only me, so I didn't need a big room, so it was cozy and clean. Even after I checked out, I was able to store my belongings in their hotel storage while I did more sightseeing in NY at no cost. CONS: I wasn't a fan of the shared bathroom, and didn't have a view. Since it rained the day I came to NY, there was no heating inside. Overall, I would still go back and stay at that hotel again.

An excellent choice to be step in New York City, very close to the metro and a few blocks from Times Square. Super shared bathrooms clean and rarely I came across some guest or they were busy, the only time got off the floor and went to another bathroom. It is a hotel to stop in a safe place the luggage and shopping, sleeping, and groom themselves, nothing more. Without luxuries and great amenities, if you are looking for a cheap hotel and make it pass for the days you are going to be in the city, it is the best choice. If you are looking for a hotel to spend time in the hotel, this is not it.

Very good value for money. Hotel is old, but at least our room was spotless, very comfortable and clean, would just sleep at the hotel so that we did not care that it was small. The service was excellent, we had no problem. In general all super super good, go back anyway.

Great hotel given its price.
