Reviews of DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan New York City 4*
I have been a Hilton Honors member for years. But unfortunately I will no longer be doing business with this brand. I received an email today (in my junk folder) stating the hotel was/is closed and both our hotel rooms are cancelled. Now my family is stranded 3 weeks before our vacation. Hilton will not even attempt to move us to a sister hotel in their brand. Just cancelling our stay with no attempt at making things right.
CLOSED with no contact to guests. If you are planning to stay here you may want to make sure they are open first.
Very nice staff and extremely nice rooms! Very clean🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Do not use them there customer service is zero. I have sent over 30 emails and messages and yet no response. Appalling.
Although our room and the service we recieved was nice, we checked out on the 27th February 2020 and are yet to receive our bond back. We were advised on both check in and check out that we would receive our bond within 5 to 7 days post check out. Bond was $50USD per night which equaled $350USD for us. Over a month later, we are still yet to receive our money, despite numerous phone calls were we were advised our money was sent back to us. We have visited our bank who advised there is no money pending return from Doubletree by Hilton. It appears each time we call no one can assist us or gets back to us regarding our money. I’ll never put my trust or another cent in Doubletree again due to this experience and I suggest others take notice of this feedback.
Loved the location, staff, cleanliness, and hospitality! Stayed here last week for the first time and definitely will be staying here again.
Pleasantly surprised by the room accommodations, and overall atmosphere. Highly recommend this hotel for your stay!
Was a bit worried about staying here after reading some peoples reviews. We had a lovely time, friendly staff, nice clean, comfortable and quiet room. Couldn't ask for anything more for the price we paid. If anyone is expecting the standards of the plaza then I recommend you book the plaza. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you to all the staff.
Very very disappointed and have 4 nights to go. We are paying (paid in advance for all months ago) well over $200 a night, but it looks and feels more like a LaQuinta Inn. Literally no coffee maker. I can’t even tell you the last time I stayed in a room without a coffee maker. The bed is definitely not a $200-$500 a night bed and the towels are cheap feeling and I could go on and on. We don’t even want to come back to the room. The hotel is part of the experience of traveling and this is beyond disappointing.
2nd worst hotel in nyc we have stayed at. We stay in NYC tons and no refrigerator in room. Bartender was nasty and tip was INCLUDED!? When I was rung up! That is ridiculous I had to tip a nasty bartender 18%.
Really expected better service and a better room. Never again. The Avalon Hotel and Stewart hotel SO MUCH BETTER.
Very unfriendly unhelpful front desk staff, in fact they are rude to the point of aggressive.
Horrible customer service. Didn't get my room until almost 5 p. M. They charged a fee for luggage storage (no other Hilton hotels or any NYC hotels I've been to does this), I was hung up on 4 times while trying to get a late checkout (I was running a half marathon in Staten Island and needed a late checkout d/t time constraint), and the maid just barged right in even after I had permission from the manager for a late checkout AND I left the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door! I've never stayed at a Hilton hotel in NYC with such subpar customer service! I will never stay here whenever I'm back in NYC!
The facilities were great and I did enjoy my stay, but unfortunately the experience changed to my surprise I noticed a charge on my credit card after checkout so I enquired about it and it was for a car park I never had, so I questioned it and was provided a receipt for it. The frustrating part to this was I've dealt with 4 different staff trying to get a refund with no luck so far as I need to prove I was charged even though a receipt for the charge was provided to me. I provided a screenshot of my charge as credit card statements work on a 30 day cycle, but apparently still not sufficient, I feel like I'm getting no where with this and I'm doing all the chasing up even though it wasn't my error if this can get sorted it would be much appreciated.
We were very pleased with the size of the room. We had a nice view and the bed was super comfy!
Great staff particularly in breakfast restaurant make your day a good one!
Checked in by mariam and have to say she was absolutely lovely and very helpful. It's in a good location, not far from rockafella centre and central park. Subway right outside (although manhattan subway has a lot to be desired). Room is cleaned daily and always smells lovely in return. Also must say thank god for the air con haha.
Our flights were delayed getting in but our travel agent had called to let them know we’d be arriving late. Even though they had it noted in their computer, they gave our room away. It was nearly 3:00 am before we got checked into a different hotel. We transferred back the next day since it was pre-paid. We thought we had it all taken care of until they had us checking out a day earlier than our pre-paid reservation stated. Once again, our travel agent called and basically had to argue with 3 different people to get it straightened out. The attitudes of indifference by management is unsettling. If you are not corporate or with an airline, they could care less about your business. The unfortunate thing is we met some fantastic staff in dining and other areas of the hotel. If you stay here… BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!
Great 4 night stay! Convenient location, helpful staff, speedy check in/out, bags held on return for only $2 per bag. Lovely room, super comfy bed! Room cleaned daily. What more can you ask for? Would definitely return!
The worst customer service I met in years! We got there with a reservation at 12am, only to find out werent offer a reasonable soolution and only atc3am we got to another hotel! It was like that for otherc3p leople that got there that night. They were very unkind, not helpful, and ignored everyone's frustration. That we dont have a room. We.
NYC hotels are notoriously expensive so I was chuffed to find a deal with this very well located hotel for a total of £300 for three nights in September. I then read a number of not-so-happy reviews about the place and wondered if I'd made a poor choice. So my partner and I were glad to find that, in the end, the hotel was actually really lovely. Maybe we got lucky but the only negative thing I can really think to mention was that we had to wait a good 10 or more minutes in a queue when we checked in, which is frustrating when you've been travelling all day from across the world and just want to relax. After checking in, we were given lovely warm cookies to welcome us; a bit of a bizarre thing to do but maybe an amusingly stereotypical welcome to such a foodie hotspot! Our room was very spacious with a queen sized bed. It overlooked 51st Street. We had a nice big bathroom with a tub/shower combo. The room was clean and tidy and tastefully decorated, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The hotel is extremely well situated on the corner of Lexington and 51st. We pretty much walked all over NYC from it, walking an average of over 25 miles a day, so grateful for the nice comfy bed at night! There are numerous coffee shops and restaurants within a few blocks for breakfast, and the hotel's bar is pleasantly cool (a relief when coming in from the draining NY humidity in September) and reasonably priced too. I'd definitely consider staying here again next time I am in NYC.
Location is "ok". A bit far from the action, but close tho the Subway. Maintenance of the Rooms is appalling. Very tiny bathroom. My room had blocked shower drain, and toilet (which they apparently did fix) no kettle in the room, until we had to request one. Not with the price. I was lucky enough to spend a few days at a much cheaper boutique hotel near Grand Central Station. Much better option. Not likely to stay at Double Tree Hotels again.
Fine location — right next to the 6 line subway. Also a short walk to Broadway, Grand Central Station, Central Park, and even Penn Station. The property decor is a bit worn out. Door can stick, carpet is worn in spots, but it is always clean and comfortable. A busy lobby at peak times so plan to stand in line if you're checking in in person. I stay here often as it is usually cheaper than other similarly located hotels in midtown.
The location is great, but that's about it. We were able to pick our room online and said we would be there at 3:00. Come to check in about 4:00 and the room isn't ready because it's an airline room (which nobody told us) Front desk claimed they would call us when it was ready, and nobody ever did. The rooms are very small. Bathroom door would not close either. Breakfast was lackluster as well.
Very rude staff and the room was dirty broken furniture and the bathroom one meter by one at the request to change it I was asked 22 bucks a day apiece. I had to go to my agency and I had trouble changing it anyway. The staff at the reception were really rude. This is the ninth time I've come to New York the first time something like this happens to me. I'm sure I'm never here again and I don't recommend it.
Great location. The subway is right outside the door. The neighborhood had everything. Even a great live music joint called Bonifide just a few blocks away. Our room was quiet and the beds were really, really comfortable. Only negative, they don't have coffee in the room. But there's a nice place next door to grab a cup of really good coffee and breakfast to go or stay that more than made up for it. I've stayed in several hotels in NYC but this will be my 'go to' one moving forward.
The hotel is in a great location to turn to manhattan, right next to it there are a few metro stops that make the journeys fast. Rooms are clean and comfortable though those on the upper floors are nicer than those on the lower floors, even just for the view of the crysler skyscraper. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's the second time I've stayed here and I wouldn't change.
Omg! Just the pits! The worse check in and reception staff I've ever known. What a huge disappointment after such a long journey. Got to the room and there was already someone in it! The room's so dirty too.
We stayed there for one night only. I like the location of this hotel, I liked that it was quick check in, we did like the level floor we stayed on, I did like that bed was pretty hard! Cleaning ladies were helpful too. Room was clean What I didnt like that there was some hair on the floor in the bathroom but I still think our bathroom was cleaned before. :)
I recommend this hotel so that it is very close to several points of interest that can be easily reached on foot. For example: Time square, 5th ave, Gran Central Station, Rockefeller Center, St Patrick Catedral, Trump Tower, Tiffany and Central Parck. There's also a Subway stop just a short walk from the hotel's entrance. The Internet is free only in the hotel hall while it is paid in the room (12th per day x device) free in the room only at night. Very clean, it is frequented by all the flight staff of the various airlines, the only flaw: all the girls engaged in acceptance and information are POCO CORDIALS, superficial in the directions, always sulk and are NOT ATTENTE to the need of the customer therefore will NOT help you and will NOT make you feel comfortable because they do NOT have a sense of respect but seem to be annoyed by the vs requests for information. However, you will have little to do with them because all the people you meet on the street will always be ready to help anyone, spontaneously even without having received an explicit request. Upon arrival they will ask you for a deposit of 400 euros with opp 200 card in cash, as a security that will be returned at the start. When I return to NY I will still choose this hotel x the strategic location and cleanliness. Happy holiday ;-)
Very good experience. We arrived early after flying in over night. Sylvia was able to get us a room right away. All the staff has been very nice and helpful. Room is also nice. Perfect location walking distance to everything.
For the price, this might be one of the most disgusting hotels in all NYC. I would NOT pay more than $29.99 a night to stay here. It is a dump. The wood is rotten, light fixtures falling out, doors/windows don't close letting sound/hot air/cold air in, the building does NOT allow the heat or a/c to be turned on unless THEY feel it is hot or cold outside. It was so damn cold in the room, I actually got sick. The bathtub is dirty. The lighting is awful, its dark and depressing in the lobby, hallways and room. The staff is rude and unwelcoming. The curtains are worthless. I could go on and on. Do NOT stay here!
WE HAD BED BUGS! and the hotel didn't care that much. We had to leave the hotel as they didn't even kept their own process of getting us another room and lied about it. Worst service ever. The worst. Other than this horrific experience (which wouldn't have been such a big deal if the hotel was behaving in an acceptable manner) I wouldn't even give it 3 stars hotel rating. Outdated. Everything. They even wanted internet to be paid. What are we in the 90s?!
I was having a great time here until it came to departing. You convinced me to get a transfer to the airport with you, we confirmed the airport with you, and the driver took us to the wrong airport! 100s of dollars out of pocket and was nearly late for our flight. I did originally give this 5* because of the excellent service from Caitlin. I wish I hadn't of reviewed it before I'd departed. I have reduced my rating this due to almost having the holiday ruined as above. I have explained the situation several times to the company and hotel, and I just got ignored by email, and the guys who run this Facebook page don't understand my situation!
Fantastic — great beds, busy, close to alot — great for a get away!
Great service, room good, great mid town location, downside no coffee/tea in room.
Great location and large room with comfy bed, large TV and air conditioning. Friendly staff and quick easy check in with Jessica. Recommended for a NYC visit.
Buy 4 nights with a low cost package Alitalia flight included and we enjoyed it. It is not a 5 star but it has clean rooms and in line with the Hotel class. Employees very courteous, check in and out very fast and for last but important very central location in Manhattan: Lexington Ave intersection 51 str. Metro 10 metres from the exit.
Great location, lots of stuff within walking distance. Room was clean, staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately there's no restaurant inside but with food available literally right out the door, not a big issue. Only downside, there's no fridge or microwave in the rooms (not sure if that's just a Manhattan thing) to keep/warm up left overs. All in all, would stay again!
Prominently Located on Lexington, this place is well maintained. The service is great and the breakfast is amazing. You can leave your luggage before or after checking out for only a dollar which I found extremely helpful.
Great choice! Great place, service and area …
would come back again!
Excellent location: Just over 1 km from the extraordinary Times Square. In front of a very handy Starbucks where you can have breakfast. The room I occupied was neat and clean but the bathroom for size left to be desired.
Horrible! Book for a room with 2 double beds; arrive issue place no room available and I get a room with a Queen bed…
The hotel was really nice and updated. It was in a great location but with that comes quite a bit of noise from the street. And there is a police station and fire department right across the street so sirens aren't uncommon. I stayed on the 12th floor and still heard a lot of street noise. So if you're a light sleeper this might not be the place for you. But I enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.
This hotel is well situated in Midtown Manhattan and close to walk to many stores and plenty of places to eat (H&M, other major well know high end retailers and good selection of restaurants to try) … also Times Square is about a 20min walk or just hop on the nearby metro station. From the moment I got here the service was on point and staff were extremely friendly. The next morning of my stay I inquired about trying to see if a discount might be available due to my Active Duty military status for the hotel breakfast and a women named Silva at the front desk happily comped me free breakfast vouchers for my entire 2 week stay! The hotel breakfast was good and there was a good selection of hot and cold food… the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. During my final day a very nice man named Bolivar whom I saw almost every day during breakfast and served me multiple times gave me a sweet going gift of a tin of chocolate chip cookies! I highly recommend this places for many reasons and my hotel stay was reasonable priced, definitely would stay here again:)
The front desk and curbside service was very helpful. Upon my departure, a ride to the airport was hailed for me. My room was clean and overall in tip top shape. I appreciate being able to leave by bag at the concierge stand while I was out. Would stay again!
American Airlines changed our flight on us so we got into JFK at 1:00 am instead of 8:30 am. Got to this hotel in the wee hours. Unfortunately no rooms were available for early check-in, but they were very understanding and allowed us to rest in the lobby area and provided us with complimentary breakfast vouchers. We got nothing from American Airlines. Thank you so much Doubletree! Am definitely recommending this place to others.
I participated in an event organized at the hotel in the conference room all the service was fantastic the very attentive super dynamic workers offered us all a good service the event was a press conference with the artist Mirin Fernandez coming from Tour and which many media we did present media Spanish networking and for us it really was a place that would recommend more soon will be also other artists Ednita Nazario and also were artists of the delivery of Fame Awards Mexican artists who also stop at that hotel really is very good to be able to count in full 54 and Lexington with a place that has good care for Latinos fully recommended.
Super Satisfied! We went recently and we want to go back. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Love cookies from the front desk staff and who cleaned the rooms. Highly qualified, thank you! If God allows it we will return.
Great location to Grand Central and within walking distance of all the top attractions. Stayed here for my anniversary and was upgraded to a junior suite which was a lovely treat. The room we had did have a very noisy air con you couldn't turn off or down unfortunately. Also being a silver honours member the hotel should offer free luggage storage as I think being charged for 2 small day backpacks is a bit rude. The staff were friendly but did have to ask for our cookies when checking in.
They present it as 4 stars, but it's less than that.
In service facilities and cost is (maximum) 3 stars (well located)
We had a great time! Perfect area near all trades. We were lucky at check-in, there was a sunny girl who even gave us the wi_fi and welcome cookies. Another day my fiancé went to reception to ask for the Wi-Fi password again as he had forgotten it in the room and found an unkind girl who insisted that she have to pay for it. In short, everything is perfect except that little mishap. Nice rooms but missing a coffee machine or a microwave. Life in New York is very expensive!
Met up with a old friend from school who was visiting NYC. The hotel was close to grand central so getting there was easy. The hotel lobby and bar were very nice and quite swanky. The room my friend was staying in as a nice cozy room with modern furniture and a good view from her window. She enjoyed her visit to New York and was quite pleased with the hotel and it's location.
We liked it, the treatment was good and cozy, has to be able to leave the suitcases in case you Check Out and you want to go to another citio until it arrives the time of your flight, this for us was very important because for only 2 dollars you do not have to walk with all the suitcases A trail, everything was very clean, it's super downtown that's a big plus plus that the subway stop is only 10 steps from the hotel exit, the truth we Loved.
Do not stay here… For the hotel to be by hilton it is very outdated. The girl at the front desk marlyn was super nice and made the check in easy. Once we got to the room there was no coffee maker which was a bummer so we had to run downstairs to buy some. Our friends also stayed in a room and the room was dirty. The walls in both room had cracks which is very tacky. And its also noisy as there is a fire station right by this hotel. At night there were some girls who were talking so loud by the elevator. And you also have to pay to check your bags if the room isn’t ready. The bathroom was outdated. Also my friends had a issue with the bar tender being rude to them. We advised the lady when we checked out but im sure she didn’t care. Overall wasn’t that great of a stay. Save your money and stay somewhere else. O and to make it worst you couldn’t control the heat. In our room it was extremely hot. When my friends got to their rom their heat wasn’t working so they called down and they sent them a old heater that barely worked and was a burning hazard. Not happy with this place.
Attentive Service, right in the center of the Big Apple… a little old will need to be refreshed… but very clean. I recommend.
We stayed here for 3 nights and were very pleased. The rooms are very clean, which was very important to me. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We asked for a fridge, which was there when we arrived and later requested a microwave and kettle. Everything we requested was brought immediately. We enjoyed from stay. Really great staff — it makes a huge difference.
The cookie on arrival is really the small plus of the hotel, the rooms are rather simple.
A lot of moisture in the bathroom (paint that flakes. ).
The doors of the room slam when it closes and the little soundproofing made me wake up several times with a start…
Not my best experience.
The Check in was terrible. We were discriminated against by an employee who told us we had no reservation. He refused to speak Spanish. Then we knew that if he spoke Spanish. He had an unsolved hour. Finally when he saw that he was wrong he didn't even apologize. For Latin the service at reception is discriminatory.
The hotel is OK and in the line of the group, there is nothing transcendent. The services offered are adapted.
The room staff is friendly and does a good job.
The downside of this hotel is the entrance hall which is noisier than Central Station, a real boxon.
Excellent 4 star hotel. Clean, spacious, great location, very central, also nice view from the room. If you book well in advance, you can find some room with great price. Recommended.
Stayed here for four nights over Christmas. The check in was a breeze, staff were personable and helpful, bar was cozy. Rooms were fine. Perfect for price point. Great TV channel selection. Elevators were fast. Lobby was very festive for the holiday. Cute! We had a king bed and the teens had two doubles. They put us on the same floor which was considerate. I’d stay here again in a minute. Perfect location, friendly people. It’s not a five star but I didn’t expect five star for the price. I don’t go to NYC to sit in the hotel, so this one was perfect given the clean and adequate accommodations, pleasant staff, and awesome location.
Excellent room, great bed.
Fantastic attention I can not say much as Noah arrives to host.
Clean rooms even though they start to be a bit past and require a refreshing. We had a large room with a very large comfortable bed. Enough space to store our business with a big pandemic and a dresser with 4 large drawers and 4 small drawers.
Do not hesitate to ask for a room on the 11th floor (top floor for the rooms we will say economical).
Value for money in New York considering the ideal geographical location to visit Manhattan: nothing to say.
In conclusion I would recommend the place.
Ultra modern rooms and sizeable for a Midtown NYC hotel. Located on the east side and a short distance from trendy neighborhoods and touristy spots. The hotel itself is quiet and has a large lobby space. Beautiful decor.
Good hotel but a refresh would improve the whole. The hotel is well located. A little too much shopping inside has my taste. But very correct also no.
Simple lodgings, not a lot of amenities. Skip the breakfast buffet, it's rather pricey for the common food. Real strength is the location. Right next to the subway, so exploring was easy and fun. Drug store and natural food restaurant next door. Best soup I've had in ages!
Front desk staff was extremely friendly as were the Bell staff and doorman. Hospitality staff did great keeping our room clean. We didn’t even mind the bathroom size or our view. Our room seemed almost sound proof. The bed was perfect and my wife and I slept very well each night. The downsides; there is no coffee maker, fridge, microwave or room service. It seems Hilton is getting out of the hotel business and trying to become a timeshare. So if you stay expect to go down to the restaurant on the first floor each morning and pay $3 a cup for coffee. And the $$$ breakfast buffet at their restaurant? Skip it.
Excellent location, you can move everywhere you want really easy! Rooms are kind of small but their fee is also small so no complains about that. There's no restaurant there, only a bar, so don't expect a lot of food options either, good thing is that you can buy a lot of things outside.
We didn’t hate it. Pros: The location is amazing. The cost was amazing. The porter Reggie was hands down the coolest human we’ve ever met. The staff at the front were sweet and accommodating. Every single person we spoke to on staff was helpful and friendly. Cons: The beds were uncomfortable. There wasn’t a vending machine. The room was SO dark — the entrance was lit but otherwise it was too dark in the room part. If there were a floor lamp in the corner, it would be perfect. For such a small room, it feels like an easy fix.
Very elegant, good service I recommend it is very cozy for people who like to relax and spend a few nice moments.
They're fourth! Pesimo service, especially on the front desk. They received shipping of purchases made and although I consulted if they had arrived I was informed that no and they refused to entregarmelos. When I try to communicate on the phone they cut me. I don't recommend it at all. I will never go back to this dire attention hotel.
Totally been overrun and too expensive but very central in Manhattan. Ideal for exploring.
Considering we are Hilton VIP members I expected better. Even that aside — the tiny bathroom (you had to kind of squeeze around the door to close it), the temperamental flush on the loo, the fact you have to go to the bar to get your water, the lack of kettle… I mean really… DoubleTree is a better brand in the UK than it appears to be here in the US. We won't be staying here again sadly.
The best the warm cookies you get when you arrive! They were delicious! The room was nice, clean and normal size, we missed a fridge in the room, our window faced a fire station so we were entertained, the staff attentive and the cleaning ladies very nice, even if you miss that in the Reception will speak Spanish, in the bar I have to say that if.
Clean, comfortable room. Busy and bustling. Friendly staff. Good location. Weird smell throughout first floor. Common spaces a bit cramped. Good for an overnight business trip, but many of the Hilton properties nearby are nicer with similar rates.
Very comfortable bed. Good location.
Hotel not at all part of the Hilton group. Very clean and especially in the middle of Manhattan.
The hotel is conveniently located. There are two metro station very nearby. The grand central is on a walking distance. The rooms itself are not so premium and felt overpriced. They do not provide even a microwave oven or coffee maker. I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel which did not provide a coffee maker. The buffet breakfast too is nothing premium.
The hotel is not bad, well located in the downtown area of New York. It doesn't have the minibar nor the car for you and coffee in the room. It would be to renovate since the bathroom door houses to pieces.
Very nice hotel. Got upgraded to a suite from a two double bed room. Pull out couch was a little noisy and there weren't covers or pillows in the room for use as a bed. Overall a good experience. Nice staff and clean hotel.
Fantastic staff! They treated us like royalty. It was my husband's birthday and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Everyone from Timothy and all the other doormen to all the kitchen staff such as Maria the host as well as Vicki and all the others at the front desk we cannot thank you all enough for making our stay most memorable and enjoyable Excellent location was central and very easy to get around with the subway steps away. We would recommend this hotel to everyone and surely would not hesitate to come again ourselves from Vancouver Canada.
Nice and clean, close to the Metro.
Going towards San Patrick there is a food truck with espresso and croissants "almost" like in Italy!
Great luxury I loved. It's very clean and it feels great.
Big positive point with the hot cookie given the arrival, after a great trip it's a lot of good.
There is also a luggage deposit, very convenient in case of late flight.
Hotel rather degrading, at the entrance seems to be in the station room with people discalced, people who are thrown on the sofas some sleep. Perhaps because the Ceck-in is only from the 3pm Caring highly of those arriving from night flights with change of spindle etc… Staff at Ceck-in very rude and indisposing, not at all ready to welcome and help the customer. I highly recommend it, the ugliest environment ever found in a hotel! Never again! I hope the travel agencies will erase it from their lists. Rating not stars but 5 stables! I also add thieves, after we did wait 5 hours to give us the room we were charged to keep us suitcase. $2 and $2 to get it back! Shameful!
Stayed here using my hard earned Hilton Honor points (70, 000 a night) and there is NO WAY this property deserves anywhere near that level of points. If it wasn't for the fact that it's located in Manhatten this property would barely warrant a 20, 000 redemption value. Having to argue with the receptionist who insisted that as I'd booked the three night stay separately (booked as points allowed) I would have to check out and back in again everyday! No bottled water in the room despite being a diamond member. The reception/ bar area smelt overpoweringly of artificial scent. I don't know what they were trying to mask but doubt it could have been as unpleasant as the stench we encountered. The breakfast was so poor that, despite having it included in our booking, after the first morning we went out and purchased a decent breakfast from one of the many breakfast providers in the area (Ess a Bagel is recommended). For the first time at a Hilton brand (after travelling and staying at numerous hiltons all around the world) I was informed that there was a charge for storing my bags and another charge for retrieving them! I would highly recommend avoiding this hotel, whether you're paying cash or points it is NOT worth the amount they charge. Poorly trained staff (in the main), poor facilities, hugely overpriced I firmly believe this hotel would go bankrupt if it wasn't located in a city with a shortage of hotel space.
Doubtful odors, antiquated rooms and staff too busy chatting to care for guests.
Very good customer service. Had issues with booking through a third party but front service representatives assisted and tried to make the stay better. Location is great because there are multiple shops and restaurants around the area. 24 hour convenience stores also less than a block away. The room was a double queen, bed is comfortable. They also give you fresh cookies when you first come in.
Quick Service, unusual place. You can write on the walls.
Excellent stay for the neighborhood and price. Very affordable, there was no hassles. Our room was freshly remodeled, everything was clean. The bed was firm but the pillows were like sleeping on flat tires. I recommend you bring your own if you can. The restaurant in the hotel is good but, of course, its New York so go out and see, eat, and enjoy! If you must dine it you'll get better then average hotel fare. There is also a bar, good place to start up with a drink while you wait for a cab or just to meet new people. There is a metro stop at the corner and another on 53rd. We had the pleasure of having a street fare on Lexington, right in front of the hotel, on Sunday so that was an added bonus. Not sure if its a regular event.
One of my favorite hotels in NYC. Very centrally located to all the tourist attractions. The rooms are clean and well appointed. The staff is friendly and helpful. The warm cookies at night is a nice touch.
No coffee machine in room and no coffee in lobby. Also asked the concierge for some q tips. They didn't have any. I have been at Hampton inns with more amenities. Otherwise good hotel and good location.
Excellent location, access to two different subways just about 50 feet from hotel. Very convenient. All staff was pleasant and rooms were clean and spacious. There are restaurants right next to the hotel and across the street, the one next to the hotel being a healthy option. There is also a Walgreens across the street in case you need/forgot something. Would definitely stay again. *For those who need somewhere to put their bags while the explore around town after check out, they have convenient bag storage for only $4 a piece.
Nice rooms, comfortable bed, clean hotel and good customer service during the day. Night shift CS, nonexistent. Gentleman is getting paid for docking points to hotel. I would suggest coaching him or point him in the right direction to work at a 2 star hotel.
I paid for 3 rooms for me and my family. I had a great experience however my brother had problems with the heater and when he called they told him that heaters didnt work in any room and he had to insist to have them take a look. They were unable to fix the heater but they provided a portable one finally. My brother wasnt very happy but the rest of the stay was good.
This hotel is very nice and convenient to the surrounding area. Although when I arrived my room was not ready for several more hours and I was quickly pushed aside for the next person in line. After traveling all day this was hard to drop my items off with the bellman and go out on the town. Once in the room everything was nice except that there was not a coffee pot in the room. I understand that most hotel coffee is less than desirable and with a Starbucks no more than 50 ft in any direction maybe it makes sense! However, as someone who likes to enjoy a small cup before I get out in the morning I found this to be an inconvenience. Will I stay here again? Yes. However as a HHonors Member I have come to expect a level of service that did not seem to be present at this hotel.
I only stay at Hilton hotels. This DoubleTree is the worst Hilton property I've stayed in. Customer service is pretty bad. The front desk refuses to answer the phones if it's busy, even when a guest is calling. I had to go talk to them face to face. I was told by a Maryln that their manager instructed them to not answer phones if the desk has people waiting. On the third day of my five day stay there was minor construction taking place in the room next to me. Drilling and hammering. Newspapers apparently are only free when you check in. You have to ask. After your first day you're directed to a gift shop to buy papers. Gift shop is supposed to open at 0700, but the woman arrived at 0708 and casually opened at 0711. I decided to just go next door to buy a paper. Three of the nineteen floors are called "HHonors floors". There's a Hilton Honors badge outside each room on those floors. What other than that makes them special? I still don't know. There was no complimentary water given and no mini fridge in my room. This hotel is located in NYC, so the room was expected to be shoebox size, but I didn't expect a size 6 shoebox. The room was the smallest hotel room I've ever been in. I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Times Square and that regular room was much bigger. It was more expensive as well. The one restaurant is overpriced, more so than I expected. There's a Barber Shop and currency exchange. Lobby is pretty big.
Basic, not fancy, clean room. No fridge, only plugs to charge your devices on one side of the bed. Bed moderately comfortable. Furniture/decor has cheap feel to it. Night stand was missing veneer off half the front. Overall would possibly stay there again if their parking garage was not terrible. When they park your car, they ask what time you'll be leaving. We stated 11am. Upon check out at 11am, our bill had parking listed, so we figured we were all set. Upon getting to the cashier, we were rudely told the hotel had to stamp the claim cheque, and then afterwards, when they were "getting our car" it took them 35 minutes. In total 45 minutes. Others who came to get their car after us had their cars before us, attendants were just standing around, and it seemed very unorganized. We had a reservation for valentine's day brunch at 1145 and ended up missing it and not being able to go because of the parking garage. Very disappointed. For 43 dollars per day, I expect my car to be ready to go when I tell you, esp if you ask me.
Stayed at the Doubletree at 51st and Lexington. It was very nice, although not super modern. Bathroom was updated and beds were moderately comfortable. Pillows were too big for me though. The location is great for seeing most of the sights in Manhattan, and a pretty good central spot in general. Very nice that it's on the corner of a subway stop. The service staff was friendly and responsive. I would stay there again.
I called down to tell front desk at around 1am for two bottles of water. I was told by Yvonne that they did not have water and if I wanted water I can use the vending machine on my floor. I preceded to tell her I was a hilt on honors recipient and I have never stayed in a double tree that didn't provide water an cookies. She said sorry we don't have water. After searching for the "vending machine" I came a cross the ice machine. I went back to my room and called Yvonne again. She said that if the vending machine wasn't next to the ice machine then it probably was removed bc it wasn't working. She instructed me to try different floors bc I would be bound to find one. I then left my room for a second time only to see a bellman walking towards me with two bottles of water. When I extended my hand with a smile saying thank you he informed me that the waters were not for me and knocked on the door across from us and handed the guest the waters. I explained to him how I was told there was no water and what transpired up until that point and he was kind enough to go get me the two bottles of water. I called down to the front desk to get Yvonne name and inform her that I will be reporting to management how she treated me and that I was not pleased. After I hung up about 2 mins later Yvonne called my room and slammed the phone down in my ear! At 1:30 in the morning there should be NO reason for her to be calling my room unless it was rough apologize.
Only one person checking in/out non Hilton Honors guests, so it was a long line. When we did get to the attendant she was very wonderful. Room was very nice. Simpl and perfect for a one night stay. I also love those darn cookies warm and delicious.
The hotel is excellent and is very scenic everything.
The rooms did not have hair dryer, microwave, or fridge. The front desk provided no water for the long valet wait to get my car back. I was overcharged and cannot get ahold of their accounts department. Customer service was highly lacking. There were also cigarette butts outside our window in a non smoking room. The door man was very helpful though.
We had a Junior Suite. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very cramped and makes it uncomfortable to use. The location of the hotel is great because it is away from the hustle and bustle of times square yet it is still a close walk to most major attractions. The hotel service was very kind and prompt.
Super located clean good attention. Thanks to roberto staff very friendly and helpful, that speaks spanish.
Superb location with immediate access to the Subway. Close to popular tourist destinations. Typical room size for New York City. Rooms are somewhat outdated and in need of minor repairs. Heat did not work properly in my room and it was incredibly hot. However, this seemed to be an isolated problem and not hotel wide.
Excellent location for meetings in mid town Manhattan. Room is clean and neat. What was very unpleasant was, though, a service man "requested" $2 per bag to be checked which I generally consider a voluntary tip and I always give them to. But being told to "pay" $2 per bag even when my colleague needed to take out something out of his bag later was absolutely ridiculous. It almost felt like he was demanding what we owe to him, so we though it was customary in this hotel. Strangely enough, another service man who helped us getting our bags back and loading them in a taxi didn't ask for any amount ended up getting much bigger tip. So I presume it was just one guy who was robbing of foreign guests. I should've written his name down.
Very good position in Manhattan. Two steps from metro stop. Good hotel. Fitted carpet on the floor in room and this is not a good thing. No breakfast included. Enough space in room but bathroom was tiny, no shower but bathtub. Bed was king size, but too soft for my back. The room was a bit noisy.
My suite was excellent, I stayed at room 1904. I felt like a queen spacious, clean and just relaxing. Upon my entry at the double tree I was warmly greeted, when checking in Karen was really nice and helpful. Throughout my two nights stay, at the restaurant Marl was really nice to me she helped me out was very pleasant and welcoming, my server James was excellent he was of maturity, subtle, very kind and served and helped me out well. He endured that I was good not to mention he was polite. Mario was excellent, he assisted me well helped me out with my baggage and was very polite. When I was leaving Janice was very nice polite and gave you a warm goodbye. Because of these lovely staff my day at the Hilton was a great vacation. Thank you guys for assisting my mom and I. P. S. My mom did an eye surgery.
Pros… Very clean, Doormen very attentive. Cons… Staff rude, called to arrange car service to the airport the next morning… staff responded with "you needed to call 24 hours in advance" and then hung the phone up on us. Charges for Wi-Fi $15/day, I haven't been charged for Wi-Fi in a hotel in years, are you not making enough on your room rate that you need to tack on another charge? Phone did not work in room, had to go downstairs to request that someone come up to collect our luggage. Waited 45min and finally carried 5 bags down ourselves. Every room door slams shut and that is all we heard all night long. While our stay was not horrible, for the price of the room I expect better service, particularly without the rudeness. We have stayed in other Doubletree hotels and had good experiences. This location however could use some work.
My kids got me this room for a trip to NY for my birthday. At first it seemed fine though the room was pretty cold. When I got back to my room at about 10:30 at night, it was freezing. I didn't see any controls on the air conditioning unit, where they usually are, so I called the front desk. I was told that you couldn't turn off the air conditioning because it was an old building and the clerk offered blankets and a space heater. Ok. A few minutes later, someone arrived with 2 sheets (NOT blankets) and told me that the space heater would be coming soon. I called again at about 11:15 because no space heater was provided. The same woman told me it would be right up. I called again at about midnight and this time got a different clerk. He again said the heater would be brought up. This time it arrived. I mentioned something to the man who brought it about the fact that it was freezing. He said, oh, just turn the air down, RIGHT HERE. OK, there was a thermostat on a different wall, not at all obvious. He was able to easily adjust the temperature. Wot the. I was upset because I needed a good night's sleep to enjoy my last day in NYC. I will NEVER book here again and have my doubts about Hilton in general.
My friends and I stayed at this hotel in May 2008 and it was nice. We especially loved the bar, except they closed early. We tried to have a Sunset (? ) cocktail drink on a daily basis, so we would drink it before we left to explore the city, but it would have been nice to have it at the end our night. As for the rooms, they were very clean and the staff was fabulous.
I was disappointed with this hotel experience. If you're paying $200+ a night on a hotel, you'd expect it to be on the same level as other $200+ hotels in the area. My TV was broken for the first night and it was repaired while I was out. They are doing renovations in the bottom level and there was no mention of this when I made my reservations. The bar was temporarily moved to a back room that's past a nail salon that has a back door that shares the hallway. Very sketchy. There's exposed drywall in the main lobby that detracts from the decor. I've stayed at other Doubletrees and intentionally chose this hotel over others because I've had good experiences with them in the past. Sadly, this is not up to par with them. I also have a problem with the Doubletree/Hilton website as they don't let you contact them to leave feedback. Instead the only option they give you is to make a public complaint. I'd have preferred dealing with Customer Service regarding this.
Good Hotel. I liked very much. The location is Central. You can easily most of the goals to be reached by foot. I can only recommend.
Very disappointed for a doubletree hotel I had always enjoyed staying in doubletree hotels. I enjoyed their staff and cleanliness, but this trip changed that for me. I was very disappointed in the end this trip. It would not say it is a bad hotel at all, its just that my experience was such a disappointment from my previous trips there. Here is a quick version: Cons: -The water pressure was very low in the mornings -The rooms (apparently none in the hotel) do NOT have air conditioning. When I called about fixing the A/C, the engineer said all he could do is open the window and try and turn off the heater (b/c apparently the fan cannot normally operate without the heating element). I understand that for November-March. But what happens when its 85+ degrees outside? no-thank you! Our room was very warm, and I had a very hard time sleeping. -The Wi-Fi is free, but its so slow, its really worthless. I ended up just using my cell phone the entire time. It was VERY slow (.
Very good location, good place to learn about the big apple. The only bad thing, that almost nobody speaks English or if you speak it, do it like you do not understand. In your favor 24 hours right next to it that serves you to make a mini dinner and it is great, after a day agoootador.
Rooms are relatively small for the price paid. Rooms needs refurbishment/decorating/painting. And the hotel does not have an Executive Lounge. Having said that, the location is ideal in the centre of Manhattan.
I am only giving them 2 stars because there location was very good for a NYC trip. The staff was like NYC robots with no personality what so ever. And the rooms were ok, but dirty. The price and location were really the selling points to this location. My advice to anyone who wants to stay in NYC, do yourself a favor, go to VRBO and rent an apartment in the village or near central park and just take the subway into mid-town, which is like 10-15 minute ride. You will be surprised that the prices are even sometimes lower then the hotels and much more room. You will be happier then dealing with bozos at hotels like Double Tree.
Rude staff as described in other reviews too — it is funny I had never seen such rude staff before. I had read the reviews but didnt think it is this much rude. Rooms are dirty but this is nothing compared to attetude of their staff.
Poor communication Ad said free wi fi but didn't tell me it was only in lobby even though I spent $250 per night for 3 nights Gave my delta sky miles number at check in but it wasn't on my receipt at check out. They said they couldn't help me and to call a manager during the day After a number of calls they said they couldn't give me my miles because I wasn't a hilton something or other They never made it right. They don't care. So many people to choose from. I'm just one person. Nice room on 12th floor, but I wouldn't stay there again on my next trip.
Trust me on this and dont stay in this hotel. The front desk will treat you bad and you will regret the minute you walked in. They will charge you for every single thing including luggage storage and room service. In addition to that, taxes are charged for every single night and not for the whole stay and they refuse to take cash. One last thing, they blocked $250 from my credit card 5 days ago and I still didnt get them back. Unprofessional, Old and Crowded.
Avoid this place no matter what. Dirty, expensive, no cree internet even in breakfast área. Employess with no wish to help. Deception, I'll never come back.
We enjoyed our experience at this hotel very much — everyone was pleasant, professional and very helpful — they went out of there way to be nice — it was clean — and by the way """" noooo bed bugs """" the food was good — and the location was perfect — actually we had room for friday and were to change hotels saturday we actually asked to stay at this hotel another nite because everyone was so nice — I am supper clostrophobic they accomodated us with room on 2fl gentleman taking our luggage took time to show me where steps were — our experience was great I give it a 5 star — thank you.

4 days before my trip I learned that this hotel closed months ago. Hilton made no attempts to contact me and inform me that the hotel had closed down. I was 4 days away from being stranded in New York. Who runs a business this way?
