Rented a room and heard the owner spewing about anti lgbtq. Wouldn’t recommend this place.
It also smelled like musty farts.

Rooms do not look perpendicular to me, and there’s a faint, but unmistakable, stench of the Old Testament about the place. Also, a goat was roaming free in the dining area, which was obviously great fun, but also unhygienic. Possibly.

Overrated rooms and homophobic owner. 0 out of 10. Do not recommend.

I am a travel nurse and have been at The Charles Inn since the beginning of September. I absolutely love the hotel and the experience I have had here. Sandy and Mike have been absolutely amazing and have made my time here wonderful. They have both went above and beyond to make sure that everything I needed was taken care of. It truly is more like a family environment here rather than just a hotel. I only have a few weeks left and will miss everyone when I’m gone. My poor sweet Maci will miss her pup friends and second parents. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone and especially my travel nurses. You will not get better service anywhere else and you have to see the themed rooms and hear about the history of each one. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The on-site manager is amazing and the customer service is excellent. In the heart of downtown Bangor.

We had been loyal customers for years yet this last stay was just so bad…
The heat would not blow, the AC was still in the window in November wit gaps around it and the staff did not care.

The best part that I had except the hotel is the help that I got from every person who worked there. I came by my self for two nights on business trip and every day I found my self surround by amazing people who just gave me a company and friendship. One of the best places that I spent thru booking. Com.

Very helpful at recommending food and things to do in the area. Walking distance to many of the fun things! Nice, clean, even themed rooms! Will definitely be my preferred lodging when staying in the area!

Themed rooms, like "the Steven king room", how fun is that. They support local artists by displaying works on the walls. Nice relaxed owners.

We stayed the night of a concert in March. Very friendly staff. We loved the historical displays. Loved it so much we booked a room for our anniversary in September!

We needed a night away from home so decided to stay at the Charles Inn. Price was on point for the stay! Hotel has a lot of character :) Staff was more then helpful getting us checked in an out! Room 211 was fantastic! Best part was the small electric fireplace! We enjoyed our stay an will most likely be heading back to check out the other rooms!

Reception was courteous, no problems there. But once we got to the room is when things went downhill. The room itself was extremely dingy, nothing like advertised. The sink didn't work properly and there was a hole above the bathroom that seemed sketchy. The bed was wildly uncomfortable with sheet stains, and we could hear a dryer hammering away through the walls. There was also a screaming match happening across the hall, but that isn't the hotels fault. We left at 11pm that night instead of staying as we genuinely didn't feel comfortable sticking around.

Went to the Impact Festival at the Waterfront. It is within walking distance from The Charles Inn. The Inn and its staff are very nice and courteous. Rooms are clean, average in comfort. Linens and towels and such could use an update. But still a very nice place rest and relax in between adventures in the heart of Bangor. ✌

Room was good! No parking which sucks, and feels like a sketchy part of town. I would never pay full price for this hotel, but we had a coupon. Front desk lady was very friendly. Lots of history about this place.

This place has charm out the ears, friendly staff, and is in the best possible location in all of Central Maine. Walking distance to everything downtown, the Kenduskeag Stream Park, and the Waterfront. Easy parking on the street or the nearby garage. It's a historic building and could probably do with some updating, but it's comfortable.

Overall okay place. Comfortable bed. However broken blinds let the sunlight in at 6am. Made us wait an hour and a half after checking in because the room wasn’t ready that was kind of crappy seeing as we drove for 6 hours to get there and we just wanted a nap. Staff was super nice and that helped a lot.

Nice old property on one of the main streets for eating and entertainment in Bangor. The city itself has the charm of a post-industrial rebuilding project.

The Mini Golf Guys chose this hotel for a night’s stay as we continued playing mini golf courses from Auburn to Bar Harbor and absolutely loved our stay here. The manager, Danna, was extremely friendly and helpful, the area in Bangor was convenient, with plenty to do within a stone’s throw, and the Inn itself was clean, cozy, and charming. If I find myself in Bangor down the road, I’ll be booking here. Thanks Danna (and Bangor)! @theminigolfguys.

Tub was broken it would not fill and the walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors (everything). Other than that the rooms were clean, nice size rooms, the service was great; if there was any issue the desk clerk was more than happy to help with any issues we had and was very friendly.

Charles Inn in Bangor Maine centrally located to all the summer activities and the waterfront! Hotel itself is a little dated.

Happened upon the coffee shop nextdoor and walked over to talk to the reception desk about their pet policy. The female owner happened to be up at the desk at the same time and they were extremely friendly and welcoming. The pet policy is so reasonable for such a lovely location. She also was so kind and offered a waffle up to me right away because they were just starting breakfast. Delicious and friendly. Cant wait to come back and enjoy the whole eperience.

Good place to stay. The public garage is closed on Sundays so do not part there sat. Night.

Stayed here several times. The staff is always very welcoming. Rooms are very clean and the location is perfect for walking downtown for dinner and drinks.

A great little hotel in the heart of Bangor. It's walking distance to all downtown businesses, including the best breakfast around: Bagel Central, and the best scenic walk: Kenduskeag Stream Park. The hotel itself is a renovated old space with loads of character and charm.

This hotel is in the perfect location in Bangor. It is so charming. The negative reviews I see are in reference to the hotel being older, but I think it adds to the charm. Everything was so clean too! The hotel manager was very nice and accommodating. I definitely want to come back so we can stay in the Stephen King Suite (which the manager let us take a peek in). Thanks for a great stay!

Charming place to stay for a short visit. Perfectly located right in downtown Bangor.

Could be a great hotel, but they drop the ball in the simplest ways. They go cheap in ways that completely devalues the experience. "Ketchup packet" shampoos Starz package but not HBO (I only care because the Game of Thrones finale was on the night I stayed) Cheap pillows and a lowsy bed. Their claim to fame was being on Hotel Impossible… which should be embarrassing, right? Again, awesome property in a great location, but they go cheap in the simple things.

Friendly staff, basic rooms, parking is down the street, but location is great for Bangor weekend nightlife.

Bring a gun! Our door had been smashed off at some point and put back together with plywood and screws. There was a huge gap when the door closed where we could see out to the hallway and anyone outside can see in. Not worth $130. In fact unless it's $50 or less go somewhere else! Seriously run!

Front desk staff was amazing, Inn was very nice. Not too many frills, but good for a night or two. Beds are super soft, if you are like my wife and I and like medium to hard beds, you won't sleep well.

The bed was horrible, bottomed out, thin curtains so couldn't get the room dark, no water pressure in the shower, window air conditioner could cool the room down running all night thank, God It wasn't a really hot night asked for a different room was lied to by the clerk said everyone had already checked in for the night came down from the room and found people checking in nothing worse to me is having someone lie to me. Very bad choice to stay.

Quaint and pretty hotel, right in the middle of Bangor. Very nice staff. My wife and I will stay here any time we're in town.

Very unique, fair-priced, with friendly staff and comfy beds. Showers could use some work! Otherwise excellent and worth a visit.

Great place! The location can't be beat with great restaurants at your fingertips and an adorable little coffee shop right downstairs. We were there for a concert and even that was just a 10 minute walk. Kristen who works there was friendly and helpful and even suggested a great breakfast spot. I definitely recommend this cool, clean, historical place.

Location is ideal. Right in the heart of downtown Bangor makes walking to restaurants, shops, etc a breeze. In fact, I suggest parking in the garage by Keybank, then walk over to the Charles. You won't be able to see it but it is only a few doors down on the same side of the "street".
I was greeted by Kristen as she expertly juggled the phone, walk-ins and registrations.
My room was comfortable, clean and fresh. It was not luxurious, with low water pressure and dated, mismatched furnishings, but was suitable for my one night stay. The price was very affordable and the customer service was outstanding.
I would not hesitate to return for another stay.

Great location, courteous staff. Definitely some old creaky floors but everything was clean and well dressed. Renovations were still happening at the time of my stay.

The renovations made at the Charles Inn by the the new owners have greatly improved the experience. Hospitality from the owners and workers is stupendous. Locally owned, loved by everyone!

This hotel is old. It's in ok location with lots of fun places to go (even in their own lobby on weekends). Don't expect any frills here but it seemed pretty clean and we were able to check in early. This hotel allows pets or at least I saw pets and it appeared as though there was 1 woman running the whole place. Thinking she could use some help because the service wasn't too great.

If you are looking for a different type of experience and wanting to stay in a classic hotel, not one of the usual chain motels, this place has character. Check in was a little long (short of staff) and my room wasn't ready (at 6 p. M. ) However, I went next door to the pub for dinner and took a walk around downtown and the room was ready by 7 p. M. (it only needed vacuuming and bathroom cleaning) My room (single) was very nice, first floor, nice soft bed, comfy pillows, a very "European" feel to it. The only downside to the room was the window a/c, to have it going I had to open the drapes, which let in the light from the outside. Also, parking was difficult, I parked on the street and only after I checked in was told there was limited parking in the back of the hotel. Street parking is OK until 8 a. M. When it goes to 1 hour parking, try to get a space in the back. Morning breakfast was good, your basic toast, bagels, eggs, frozen waffles, cereal, fruit, juice, coffee. Staff very helpful and friendly. A fun experience and worth the $71 (AAA rate) I paid!
