Reviews of The Drake Hotel 4*
Amazing hotel. We came in town for a wedding that was beautiful.
The gift shop is amazing. Great decorations.
It has great tradition. They don’t make em like this anymore.
Really enjoyed our fish-and-chips New England clam chowder. Everyone was very nice and atmosphere was pleasant. TThe game was on. Go Astros!
Great location and views…a favorite for us!
Fantastic place and absolutely fantastic customer services!
Fantastic Food Service & Environment❤❤❤❤❤
Great location right next to Michigan Ave and the Mag Mile, friendly service and lots of old Chicago charm.
I went to a tea party and it was amazing. The food was great and the tea was awesome and I love the decor.
Great room service and the employees are so kind.
Really nice experience, the place are amazing.
Amazing Atmosphere! 5 Stars!
Awesome customer service very nice hotel upscale feel definitely would come again.
Historic place with an impeccable service, great staff, huge rooms.
Beautiful view of Lake Michigan. Beautiful hotel and fantastic staff.
I had a blast staying at this amazing hotel, would highly recommend staying at Drake anytime your in the Windy City! 💯
Beautiful CHRISTmas atmosphere, friendly staff, and a comfortable room.
Great hotel! Was just there for Christmas High Tea and it was fabulous!
Afternoon Tea tradition! Great atmosphere, Harp player, energetic crowd. I recommend you go after 2p for a quieter but still busy tea. Service is also prompt. It’s good to see the same staff year after year.
Amazing hotel with awesome service and support. Enjoy my evening there for the above and beyond benefit Gala.
Love the staff and atmosphere. Always a lovely experience.
The Drake has been around forever but is still a great place to stay. Super friendly service, great location and clean and decent sized rooms.
Right on the mag mile great shopping nearby they also have valet parking.
Beautiful old building but housekeeping is terrible — leftover food in mini fridge from previous occupant. Always wonder what else wasn't cleaned.
Excellent location, old charm, comfortable spacious rooms… enough for me! 😊
The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a great view of the lake.
Spectacular very romantic great views and spectacular decorations.
LOVE this hotel. Will stay here every time I come to Chicago. The service was great and the rooms were awesome — super big and we'll kept. I got room service and dined at the restaurant and both experiences were amazing. Highly recommend if you are in town!
The hotel absolutely has that old world charm that we expected. At the same time, the place is a bit tired. When we were there, 2 of the elevators we're out of service so most of our trips included stops on every floor. On one trip, every square inch was packed (maybe all of them were out at that time). We had a junior suite and it had one of those portable air conditioners — I assume the regular unit wasn't working. Not only was it a little unsightly but wasn't really doing the job. We we're just there for the one night — maybe if we had the chance to enjoy more of the highlights i. E the bar, services, might have enjoyed it more.
Beautiful historical hotel! Staff is excellent! Bell boy went out of his way to give us a quick tour & history lesson! Rooms are beautifully done & up to date, housekeeping was excellent. Great location! Definitely a must stay when in Chicago!
The Drake is one of the best, culturally enriched, aristocratic hotels I had the privilege to stay in. The entire hotel's lobby area is basically a museum! There's so much memorabilia around the premises even near the elevators. The Drake is positioned perfectly near the heart of all the shops on Michigan Ave, a couple museums (Sports, Art, History), the beach, and some delicious bites. If you're visiting Chicago to eat, shop, and educate yourself in Chicago's history/culture. This is the perfect place to ignite that vibe.
I wasn't sure what I was getting when I booked this hotel. My Uber driver got me excited telling me it was old, but really nice. When I got in my room (pictures attached) — I was blown away at how spacious and nice it was. The hotel is right across the street from Lake Michigan and the beach. With Miracle Mile just a few steps out the front door. Highly recommend.
Upon arriving there were several men who stood outside pushing the revolving doors or hailing cabs or valet parking for guests. They are adequately staffed and because of that alone their service seems prepped to the T. I only went to the bar which was semi-dimly lit and had a turn of the 29th century vibe. Which added that much more ambiance once the pianist and singer started playing music. Drinks were well made and very tasty but of course pricey. It is the Drake after all. All in all, will be back.
If anyone is looking for great deals on hotels go to HotelRaven. Com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around… I was there for the third time for Afternoon Tea in Palm Court at the Drake Hotel. It was very delicious — their scones and sandwiches have gotten even better than the last time I went a few years ago! The scones were warm, the sandwiches (of about 4 varieties) were perfectly sized and yummy, and the tea was very good. The staff members were helpful and friendly. They were accommodating and helped us take lots of pictures of our group of ~20 ladies. Palm Court is set up mainly for smaller groups of about 5, but they were able to rearrange tables around fairly well for larger groups (10+). It was a little harder to maneuver around the tables with 20 of us, but it wasn't too much of an issue. The decor was lovely, as was the harpist.
The Drake is a great hotel for a weekend getaway or conference venue. The history makes this a memorable takeaway with elegant elevators and sitting areas. The staff does their best to accommodate your requests. However, the hotel shows her years in some rooms. The junior suite I upgraded to on-site gave me and my companions a great conversation area, but the room itself was barely stocked. No paper and pen for desk. Extra roll of toilet paper was in closet outside the bathroom. There was no hotel book in the room to help with the layout and information. I definitely would make sure you know what is being upgraded and compare to your expectations before you actually upgrade. The executive lounge was not on par with other hotels but it offered a nice view of the lake shore and a small area to enjoy chatting with your friends. There's no pool. The location is great for enjoying all that the downtown area has to offer.

Excellent. The view of the lake from the room is very nice.
Such a wonderful and historic hotel! We were upgraded to a suite during our stay and it was beautiful. Everything about the hotel is classic and elegant. The breakfast buffet is one thing I would suggest you not take part of unless you have a voucher. It’s a standard breakfast buffet, and for two people it will cost $60.
I would never stay at this hotel again and would not recommend it to anyone I know. The only saving grace was that the staff was very friendly and helpful. I stayed 3 nights for a conference March 2018. Lighting in my room was really dark especially around the desk area. It was just really dark on the right side of the room. I was able to get a lamp which was great but had to request it — very inconvenient. It was interesting that the room next to me (a colleague's room) was very vibrant with lighting more updated furniture and decor. It was very inviting. I felt like the lighting and decor in my room is from the 1950's. I am very disappointed. -The first morning I tried for 10 minutes to get the iron out of the caddy but to no avail and had to call the front desk for assistance. The maintenance person had to use a lot of elbow grease to get it out and he said that it was old and needed to be replaced. He did replace it thankfully but yet another inconvenience. — The same morning I had trouble with the shower of handle got stuck in the on position. I was so frustrated, I had to hit the handle with my fist several times to get it to loosen an the turn off the water. That night a maintenance person was sent to take a look at it. -The first night I turned the heat up because it was very cold and then heard what seemed like bathroom activities above me then I heard I water seem to run down the wall towards the heater an then it kicked on.
If anyone is looking for great deals on hotels go to HotelRaven. Com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around… It's been several years since I have stayed here, and I must say it was a wonderful experience. The only thing we had issues with was trying to schedule tea time. I had done that online before our trip, and on travel day, I got an email that reservation was canceled. I called, and the lady helped to rebook me. We got to Chicago, but knew we would be late. Called to reschedule, and luckily I got the same lady. She said the reservation was canceled again. But she fixed it, and there was a spot for us when we got there. Hotel staff was very nice, and it was great being able to check in at lunch time. Hotel is well located at the north end of the mile, and made walking to most places easy.
Really nice. I stayed there on New year's Eve and it was quite the experience. Rooms were great, party space was also great. The party, however, was a bit lacking. The lines were insane for drinks. With so many ballrooms and people, you would think they'd have a fast service. But no, it was excruciatingly slow and didn't have much options. I wish we had our own bottles to keep us going. The food was awesome and fresh. No complaints there. The security was a bit aggressive, but I guess it was understandable. All in all, it was good but not great. The hotel itself was a nice place to stay though. And it's very picturesque too.
Very interesting place, it goes back to the time of the gangsters.
Very nice and fancy hotel. Lots of crown molding and carpeted floors. Flowers in vases in the lobby with plenty of bellhops and front desk assistance. Rooms were elegant and very nice. A great hotel with the feeling of the 60s or 70s. Not a modern hotel but very nice.
Afternoon tea is wonderful. Carolers sing at each table around Christmas time. I’ve gone on Christmas before, as a fun family event! Comfy seating around a beautiful room centerpiece. All of the foods are tasty and the staff is very helpful.
My friends and I regularly go for afternoon tea in the Palm Court once a year. Booking is very easy online. The host or hostess is always a pleasure, the waitstaff very professional and attentive to your needs. They cater fairly well to vegetarian cuisine and pay attention to allergies, if mentioned. Overall always a great experience.

Not worth the price you pay. I had multiple experience here that could have been better with just a little more care put forth to making your guests happy. Concierge was a joke and the rooms are in need of an update.
Reception at the beginning correct but the concern is that we had to complain with a very noisy neighborhood we changed rooms but in bad conditions a girl pretended to understand nothing we are not bilingual but still in addition Mademoiselle s is allowed to raise the tone in France this is not the knowledge to live it learns. C is the second and last time in this hotel when in service it has not improved one has the impression to disturb them and then the staff breath just to ask them something… We are disappointed coffee is vile a sock juice that said in the United States C is normal when at breakfast we have only industrial bread like last year and breakfast is not at all balance except the fruits that are good and good waffles that Are rare ah those who have back pain pass your way bedding hard. … The chef of the breakfast is hypocritical and unpleasant the brunette the blonde she learned to smile she is charming when the servers they all head and have no sense of service.
I stayed at the Drake Hotel with my mother on Christmas Eve. We had an absolutely incredible time! The room we stayed in was gorgeous with stunning views of the lake right out our window. We ate several meals there each of which were delicious. On top of all of that every single person who works there whom we interacted with were so kind and helpful. I will recommend this hotel to any family or friends staying in Chicago and will absolutely be staying there again!
Luxury Hotel with a crazy charm. I have been going there for several years and the view of Lake Michigan is sublime.
Uneven rooms, do not hesitate to ask to see another better placed and better decorated for the same price.
Great location on Michigan Avenue.
In my eyes the best hotel in town for having tried 5 or 6 others of the same level.
If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can get one at HotelRaven. Com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around… The Drake motto is Real Chicago. I totally agree. This is the nicest place to stay with the most history. It's a classic romantic, elegant environment. The beds, bedding and pillows we're soft and wonderful. The shower was hot and the tub was large and I was able to relax and enjoy a bath with a bath bomb from LUSH down the street. Everything about the Drake was great! Food and shopping galore. Also, crossed the street to go down to Oak Street Beach. The Drake is a beautiful location! Perfect place to stay!

The history of the… HILTON Hotel The Drake, Chicago. Friendship and good taste always lasts in the TEMPS Gràcies Marcel.
The location is perfect if you are a tourist wanting to stay close to the main attractions. The hotel has old world charm but unfortunately did not live up to the standards of "old world" attention. We only had coffee for the first night we were there, they never replenished our cups or coffee pods needed to make coffee. We also only had two towels for two people, which seemed a bit stingy. The hotel lobby bar was fantastic, and felt like stepping back in time, with great drinks and live music. The rooms are dated, but that is to be expected with the age of the hotel.
I was so excited to go to my first high tea and I thought what better place than The Drake Hotel. Sadly I was wrong. I made my reservation a month and a half in advance only for them to cancel it the day before with no warning and no reason. Luckily I was able to call and get a same day reservation no problem. The service was extremely slow and the waitress was kind of rude. Then I go check my bank statement 2 days later and see that I was TRIPLE charged! at $50 a person that's not a cheap mistake! Will think twice before returning here.
We stayed at the Drake for three days in Sep 2017. The room is big, clean and cozy. The decoration is really classic. The bathroom is clean. The bed is really soft and comfortable. The house keeping service and persons were nice and welcoming. We enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea at the palm court. Except that I hope there is more room in the fridge within the room for the customers to store food and having microwave in the room, the overall experience is excellent.
Loved this place inside and out. Very friendly staff. The bar area is relaxing cozy comfortable happy surreal and historic. That perfect place to unwind. I look forward to going back.
I recently visited the Drake Hotel for a professional networking event, and from the moment I walked in, I knew that they had selected the perfect place. As soon as I approached the doors I was welcomed by the people at the front, and they guided me to the direction of the event. Upon entering the room, I noticed the immense detail and quality of the hotel. The cleanliness was incredible, the carpet was soft and comfortable, and the chairs and upholstery matched very well. At the same time, the air was cool and relaxing. At the event, the hosts were very friendly and willing to go out of their way to make us feel welcome.
Great hotel par excellence but prohibitive prices for the services offered!
Just checking in and already off to a bad start. 50 bell hops and 2 people working the desk. Waiting… waiting… terrible service thus far. Update. Slightly above average hotel gym — up to 50 pd dumbbells; weight machines: and a wide variety of cardio. Rooms are dingy, outdated and small. They are trying to sell the hotel as being classic, but really its a dump. If it were not for the gym it would be 1 star with the terrible service. Good location.
I can not say enough how disappointed I am in the Drake. We called to get a weekend package with a king size bed. What we walked into was an 9 × 11 room with a full bed. 6 inches between the bed and the TV stand/dresser. A tar roof blocking the window. A vent with direct communication with the room to the left. The thin wall to the right room to hear the 3am conversations with the guests. When we first arrived we were told they could switch our room. Now they are leaving us here for a $20 discount. Drake is nothing but an over rated hotel with a historic name that the management now have shamed. Do not waste your money.
Great location near downtown Chicago and a beach. In walking distance to a Metra stop which is convenient. The hotel itself has an old time fancy feel to it and everything looks very nice. Same goes for the rooms. Employees are very nice and helpful. Didn't eat or drink at the hotel locations since they were expensive but plenty around to visit.

Uneven rooms, do not hesitate to ask to see another better placed and better decorated for the same price.
Great location on Michigan Avenue.
In my eyes the best hotel in town for having tried 5 or 6 others of the same level.
This hotel is truly a treasure. The staff is incredible. The beds and pillows were heaven, I had a much needed coma-like sleep in that thing. I was lucky enough to find a great deal and it was a blessing because my one night was divine and I would come back in an instant.
Beautiful Hotel. No Microwave or Refrigerator tho. But it's very Nice and Comfortable. Kool view of the Lake next to the hotel also.
I spent the night at the Drake last night for the very first time, the company I work for had a State meeting that I needed to attend. Being a native chicagoan I have heard great things my entire life about this hotel. But they didn't live up to their reputation. I arrived at the hotel yesterday at 4 p. M. I spoke to Monica after waiting 40 minutes for my luggage she told me it would be arriving at my room shortly, this was the furthest thing from the truth they actually delivered my luggage 6 hours later at approximately 11 p. M. In the evening. As if nothing else can happen, outside of this horrible experience I waited for my vehicle today after my meetings for over an hour only to find out that the valet had left my lights on all night and this drained my vehicle battery, you would think at this point that nothing else could happen but I was still charged $68 for parking. I've been a Hilton honor member 4 years and have never experienced a bad stay in all my years of travel until now. Shame on you for not providing better service in a hotel that is obviously living off the reputation of past years nothing else. I'm an Executive at a Financial Company that spent several thousand of dollars dieing my stay and I can assure you that we won't be going back. I posted this complaint yesterday and got a reply from the Drake promising me a call from the manager this never happen. But they removed yesterday's post. Shame on you again!
Great location near then Gold Coast and the Magnificent Mile. Service is exceptional. Hotel is historic but the rooms are large, especially for a historic hotel. I would describe the Drake as old money nice. It definitely wouldn't be confused for modern and chic but it's decent.
My boyfriend took me on a surprise trip to Chicago and we stayed at The Drake. Our room overlooked Lake Michigan and the city. The room was beautiful and we were able to walk to dinner. The breakfast in the hotel was outstanding also.
Beautiful, vintage hotel. I felt transported back in time for tea service at The Palm Court. Staff was incredible and the harp player was lovely. Made for a fabulous and relaxing afternoon.
I went to the Drake for a 3 day trip with my family. My grandma is scared of elevators so we asked for a security guard to let us up through the stairs. It took 30 minutes for him to come and he was very rude and slammed the door in our face. Unacceptable. We got to our room and had to call 2 times for them to bring our bags up, we were also in a hurry. Bathrooms were a little dirty and one of the shower drains were clogged. This is a nice hotel, Concierge and vallet are very friendly, very spacious and has character. Love this Hotel and have stayed here before but this stay was terrible. Will not be back.
If you can get past the room decoration and decor — think nautical theme with a lot of blue and gold — it's a really nice hotel. If you are in town to visit the sites, you really can't find a nicer hotel near Fisher's Wharf. You get a great view of Aquatic Park (go for a swim! ) and it's just 40 yards to get into the midst of the Wharf area. Nice people, good sized rooms, reasonable price… good enough!
My wife spoiled us for our wedding night by booking a Panoramic Suite. Spectacular! Corner suite, designed in a 180 degree circular style, facing the Bay Bridge with view after view after view. Breathtaking. Soaking tub for two. Deli sh. Plush king size bed. Heavenly. Dual rain forest shower heads. Luxurious Waking up next to my husband for the very first time. Perfection.
The rooms are not the same as photographed. The paint is chipped, the vents are dirty & dusty. The decor is old and molded. We changed rooms 3 times before even finding a room OK enough to stay in. We paid top dollar $259 to stay in a 4 star hotel. The quality of the hotel is no more than $50. Ordered room service for coffee. $19. The sugar pakets were wet & the sugar was crystallized. Just disgusting. I would not recommend anyone stay here.
The location is great. In the middle of the city with restaurants and shops around that you can walk.
A good hotel to spend your nights with good service.
I went there for drinks at Coq D'or. The service was great. I let our server know we were only there for drinks and he accordingly ddnt bug us about ordering food :) It was a great relaxing place. The cocktails were delicious and the prices were great considering the area.
The Drake is a great hotel if you're looking for that old school 1920's feel. They have a lot of nostalgia on the lower level of the hotel that shows you a history of how Chicago was back then. The room was huge with high ceilings and we had a great lake view. The only thing I'd like to see is free Wi-Fi throughout the building and a few modern touches added to the room like easy to get to outlets for charging for example.
This is an amazing Hilton property. The staff is very friendly. My only complaint (which I completely understand and am happy to accept) is when it's cold outside, you can feel the chill thru the windows and exterior walls. Just run the heater more. The rooms are incredibly clean and elegant. The executive lounge is closed during the winter months, but the rooms are also discounted. I will stay here again in the future.
I love old Chicago! The Drake gives you that feel. It absolutely gorgeous. Noot beung a part of high society, I was very worried about how I was going to be treated, but they welcomed me and my boyfriend with open arms. Top noch staff with polite smiles. All my dreams came true at the Drake! I can not wait to go back!
My wife and I just enjoyed our first anniversary here. Location couldn't be better. Rooms are clean, up-to-date, and still have a historic feel. The service was most impressive. We came back to a surprise bottle of sparkling wine and platter of hors d'oeuvres that the house covered for free. We will definitely recommend this and hope to go back soon!
It was a very nice Hotel, especially in the interior: tapestry, carpet. The windows are not ecological standards, they allow the noise of the street and that of the general air conditioning of the hotel.
Our room 332, on the third floor, was sold to us for a JUNIOR SUITE overlooking the lake, as long as you were looking sideways! All the rooms located in the interior of the U, have a view on a sunken roof on which are installed the air conditioning of the hotel + antenna Wi-Fi relay and all that for the modest sum of 330 USD = 300 euros.
The breakfast is very plentiful for an amount of USD 25 per person.
Due to a technical problem (handle of the wardrobe located in the room), after complaint, Breakfast was offered to us (3 days for 2 persons).
Other than that, competent and pleasant staff.
Hotel located in Rich district, very close to the lake, many restaurants and quality (attention, some are expensive).
I would recommend it only if the hotel interior and exterior renovation. I prefer the Hilton Chicago, Michigan Avenue South, in the Art Institute District, Soldier Field, Seaquarium, Planetarium, Field Museum.
Just got back from marrying the love of my life and celebrating with an amazing party in the Gold Coast room. Everything about the whole weekend was magical. We will be returning to the drake hotel for Valentine's Day the next 50 or 60 years I hope.
"Drake Hotel, Chicago" — — at a tender age that was my introduction to The Drake hotel from Mission Impossible, and clearly it made an impression as I hiked along the Magnificent Mile to see The Drake. The hotel on the outside is not that impressive, but inside the hotel is beautiful and well-worth a look. I sat in the lobby/bar area and drank tea, listening to the fountain, and watching the other patrons. It was relaxing, but I also thought about my next mission.
Superb, good location, great dinner, lovable lobby.
STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE! DON'T RUIN YOUR TRIP! We were really looking forward to a nice weekend of good food, shopping, and hoping for an enjoyable hotel. The Drake Hotel was anything but enjoyable. First off, the hotel is very old and ran down. It must not have been refurbished in a long time. The room was tiny, the shower dripped all night, the old pipes in the hotel made tons of noise all night, the air conditioner barely worked (the room was terribly hot), and the many of the staff members were rude (especially one of the managers-Eloy). I was made under the impression that the parking was for 24 hours and when we left, they told me that I had a $33 fine since we were 4 hrs late (which was not my understanding). The manager was very rude and unhelpful. He said the hotel would not help my wife and I with the late fee, even if it cost us never coming back. Eloy, a manager (who should be a representative for the Drake Hotel) couldn't have cared any less when I told him that I was going to share my opinion on this website. Unbelievable. Someone probably will comment on this post trying to resolve this, but they will just be putting on a front unless if they decide to refund me the $33 that was unjustly charged. Seriously, angering a customer over $33? STAY AWAY FROM THE DRAKE HOTEL.
This Great stay ruined by Andrea the concierge. Screwed up 2 reservation for dinner screwed up tickets for the theater. This woman wouldn't listen to what we wanted kept making suggestions which we rejected and then went up on her own to do what we asked her not to do. We didn't use her suggestions went our own way didn't see the show we wanted. And she and the hotel charged us for cancelation of dinner reservations and we never saw the theater tickets. And are expected to pay for something we didnt order. What a rip off hotel. andrea remember her name.
The Drake hotel is an elegant one. The renovations are simply put, Amazing. Pricing isn't bad for what you get either. I loved it. 5 Stars all the way.
