VERY rude front desk staff! Hotel was cool but definitely in need of repairs. But the front desk staff was the worse when I checked in I never got a welcome not a smile no information about the hotel or area where to find anything just literally checked me in and handed me the keys pointed to where the elevators were. They put us in buckingham tower which looking at the hotel looks like it don't even belong to the hotel. When I was leaving I had some questions about trying to get my parking validated since in their directory in the room said to ask front desk about getting it validated so i'm standing at the desk for about 5 mins maybe a little longer this tall man comes out in a black shirt with white writing and black blazer no name tag dark hair very rudely states the keys belong in the box over there I said I know I have a question which he responded oh I can answer a question I asked about valet was given a quick no then he walked off no explanation no empathy nothing just plain RUDE for a hotel that's been in business so long and has such rich history I expected so much more I got better service and paid less when I stayed at the hyatt west loop area not to mention how rude the parking staff was as well just would not recommend going if you think your gonna be treated nicely but if ur going to check out a really old hotel with history so your research yourself then go because front desk will not help with anything.

Beautiful historic building! Yes, she shows her age, but when you get to be almost 130 yrs old, "look as good you will not" 😉 Staff was friendly, location was excellent, our room was clean, shower was hot, and there's plenty of places around for food. A couple of quirks: the shower had great hot water, but the sink did not. The a/c really didn't adjust from arctic, but they brought up an extra blanket when we asked, so all was good. Would definitely stay again!

Reminds me of my pals apartment in the Tenderloin, complete with “the landlord special” paint job. So basically it was an experience. Something about the toothbrushes though. They kept showing up and somehow I ended up with 4 of the hotels toothbrushes in my bag in multiple odd parts of my luggage. What’s up with that? Should I see a dentist?!

For the price and location it was a good stay… but cleanliness was lacking! As a hotel housekeeping lead I super inspect everywhere I stay! I found hair and nail clippings on the carpet, wrappers on the floor, the tub drain was clogged, cobwebs in the windows and on the blinds. The bed was clean and comfortable at least.

The security allowed people to take things out of my room… my phone, bag, and valuables, then when I wanted to go back to my room to get my folders and personal belongings they didn't take security threatened to call the cops on me. Called the manager who got me the deal on the room and she pawned me of on security. In the process of hiring a vivil attorney to help me get back my belongings and have them take accountability for allowing people in my room and remove stuff.

Hotel was scary they gave us the most haunted room (441) after being in the room for less than 5 mins Someone was trying to get in our room. There was knocking and knob twisting back n forth but Sounded like kids around 8-10 giggling while it was happening. When we opened the door no one was there and not even the exit door to the stair way or another room door closing so if it was someone we would of heard the door closing/slam. So right after that happened front desk called us less than a minute after telling us they’re moving us out the room. It was weird and paranormal asf. Would not recommend. After coming home from Chicago we did some research on the hotel and found out a lot of spiritual stuff going on with the place.

It’s too expensive for nothing. They charge for everything! Parking is not included in the price of the hotel room and you can’t move your car or you’ll be charged again for a full days price. The concierge we’re the most helpful throughout this whole experience it wasn’t the worst hotel but because I know there are better I’ll probably never stay here again this is a last resort hotel lol oh and everything like the breakfast area dining hall were all closed only the bar was open and the lady in the dining hall area was rude.

Great front desk service. The rooms definitely need some upgrades and air freshener. Overall, okay experience.

Historically has good reputation is a old hotel what many people said is haunted but couldn’t experience any paranormal activity but we found bed bugs 🕷 if you like historically places this hotel I highly recommend.

Great location and nice rooms.

Absolutely loved our stay here. The location of the hotel is just perfect and our room was so spacious. It’s a very old building so you may find some parts of it that look sketchy but overall it was a very good experience and thankfully our room was not haunted 😀 Ps. So needed night. The room was smaller than my room at home, they need to update them for $145 per person a night. The bathroom was smaller than my bathroom they really need to remodel cause the tub was tiny and the walls need more corking. And for that amount breakfast should have been included. Thank god for Starbucks being down the street. Not a good price for small rooms.

Very disappointed that for $145 a night that they have no public swimming pool or Jacuzzi. And on top of that no free breakfast. The shower wouldn’t go off so that I could take a bath and I had to call maintenance. We were on our honeymoon and I really expected the room to be a lot nicer than what I thought it was going to be. The only good thing I can really say about it the view was beautiful. But no breakfast and no swimming pool also they were trying to charge $49 a night to park. Because of the pandemic, human they don’t come in and clean up the room until you are completely gone and checked out. For this to be such an old hotel The room should’ve been upgraded and nicer.

We hosted our wedding 8/18/18 at the grand and historic Congress Plaza. There aren't words to describe how happy we are to have chosen this incredible location! Our cocktail hour and reception in the ornate and exquisite Gold Room was beyond our wildest dreams! We were so incredibly proud to host such a beautiful event for our family and friends who traveled from all over the country and Mexico! The guest rooms were very comfortable with breathtaking views of the Buckingham Fountain and our grand city. Everyone we invited could not get over how lovely and elegant everything was from top to bottom. Many enjoyed drinks in The Congress Lounge and are still raving about every detail! A very special thank you to Ruthie Howard, Karen Rodriguez, the Chefs, Waitstaff, Bellmen, Valet Attendants Housekeepers, Front Desk Receptionists, and Bartenders. To the General Manager we say they all deserve very special recognition! Our "downtown" wedding in your hotel dripping with the living history of our amazing city was truly a dream come true for us all! … From begin to end, every detail perfection! … To you all we say, continued success and many many thanks! …

I've stayed at the Congress a small handful of times, mainly because it is conveniently located on the mile. The prices compared to other hotels for the most part is comparable but sometimes I wonder if it really isn't somewhat inflated for what you get. The hotel itself is older, and it without a doubt reflects that. The hotel rooms, lobby, and elevators are quite dated and somewhat cringe worthy. Missing lights, out of order older elevators, and hallways that smell like cleaner were just a few of the things that bothered me. I chose to overlook these things however due to the convenience of it's location, but when it comes to visiting Chicago it is one of those hotels where I'll grind it out if I absolutely have to stay there. But as far as Michigan Ave hotels go, it really is the bottom of the barrel, and when considering staying I would not expect much from it. As long as you book knowing this you shouldn't really be too surprised. Many great things are within walking distance, such as a small handful of great eats, millennium Park, Cindy's Rooftop, and more.

This has a great location right by the Buckingham Fountain. It def has a vintage/ old feel but once I was in my room it was airy and roomy. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. It is clean and it also has a story behind the hotel. I've stayed at the Godfrey before which was beautiful but it is not by the bean or Navy Pier. The Congress is and is also pretty interesting in it's own right! I would recommend!

Just back from a two day stay at the Congress Plaza and we loved it. Yes the hotel is old but that is what makes it so charming. The style and materials used in its construction are stunning. We had room 327 in the South Tower — a large, high-ceilinged, bright room overlooking Grant Park which was lovely. The room had a refrigerator which worked well. The King bed was super comfortable and the linens were white cotton and spotless. The bathroom was large and very clean. The only wrinkle was a lack of hot water in the morning which needs to be improved upon but in the middle of a hot summer it wasn't a big deal. We found the staff to be super friendly and very helpful with directions. I made an error in my original reservation which I hadn't noticed til the last minute and their reservations manager straightened it out for me very quickly — her kindness was much appreciated. The concierge/valet at the front door when we arrived was extra helpful — should have gotten his name — wonderful gentleman. The beauty of this hotel is that you can park your car and either walk or use public transportation to get wherever you want to go. We walked most places and there is so much to explore in this beautiful City. We plan to return in September for a longer stay and will definitely book at the Congress Plaza.

The Congress Plaza Hotel is an absolute classic. My wife and I stayed there over a long weekend during a trip to Chicago. The lobby was elegant, the rooms were quaint and the staff was friendly. It’s important to note, it is one of the oldest hotels in Chicago and although it’s been renovated, you can still tell the bones of the building was built over 100 years ago. If you’re into culture and have a appreciation for the past you’ll love this. If you’re looking for a hotel that’s modern and spacious you should probably keep looking. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because there seems to be some misplaced shops on the ground floor. There was a tacky gift shop filled with cheap trinkets and a few display cases filled with stuffed animals. For a hotel that’s otherwise elegant, I can’t quite figure out what’s going on there.

The restaurant and bar accommodations here are very nice. The Chef came out to talk to us while we were eating our meals. I was here for a conference and the hotel did an amazing job accommodating so many different types of people. They set up mobile bars, had clean areas for different classes and even set up the dance hall for after the classes. Everyone there had a good time. This hotel is a welcoming place for anyone. It’s on Michigan Ave, so it’s in a hot spot for Chicago. It’s very old and feels like a classic spot to be.

Definitely one of the best locations to stay at in Chicago. Well the hotel may not be the most modern, it has a rich history and some beautiful architecture. The rooms are clean and the staff were extremely friendly. The best thing about this hotel however is it location and the price. It cannot be beat with any hotel in the area. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Wonderful old historic hotel. Yes, old. Not the freshest or the most technologically up to date. But if you like nostalgia more than 50" TVs, this may be your spot. Views from the lake side are magnificent. Clean enough, friendly, and everything works despite a ding or two. Also a great location for attractions and transport.

Was very happy with my room. Great location. Friendly staff. Only point of dissatisfaction was when I arrived early because Amtrak changed my planned times, the hotel wanted to charge an extra $50 for early check in, which I thought was petty and greedy. So I toughed it out in the lobby even though I was exhausted. If they have rooms available, I recognize sometimes they don't, they should accommodate guests — not price gouge.

The hotel itself is beautiful, didn't get any ghost action. The bellman in the morning is superb. The reason I only did 4 star is because the front desk seemed to be annoyed to do her job, not friendly, not welcoming. Our room was very elegant, loved the vintage decor. My husband loved the shower & great water pressure & that the water got good & hot, close to pretty much everything.

Location is excellent. Almost all tourists points are accessible on foot. If you want to visit the Museum, the Shed Aquarium, planetarium etc it is worth buying the city pass. I didn’t like the miss information about the parking spaces by them, the hotel doesn’t have free parking so don’t rent a car if you intend to stay at this part of the city. The facilities are quit old.

Historical Hotel, a little dated but has its charm. Great location.

Good location in Chicago and for a low price! A hotel with a passionate history that has already hosted Presidents of the United States.
The only small worries: the shower leaking a little and a wake up at 6am by the maids.

I enjoyed everything about this historic hotel. Lady at front desk was friendly, funny, and helpful. Shared info about the supposed haunted room in one of the many wings of this huge hotel. Lobby was gorgeous and even had a pool table. Stayed in the South Wing. Room seemed to have been recently updated, with comfy beds. Although it was a bit smaller the ceilings were extremely high giving it a more spacious feel. The bathroom has multiple shelves perfect for ladies needing room for toiletries and makeup on their stay! The view was also beautiful from the 5th floor. Would stay at this hotel again.

We stayed at the historic Congress Hotel in Chicago from March 30 2018 to April 1 2018. My thoughts are that it is an old building but elegant and clean and I highly recommend this hotel. Paid $44 per day for parking… a little bit expensive but at least car was parked in a safe place. A big bonus is that the highly recommended “Buddy Guy’s House of Blues” is only a 10 minutes walk.

Pretty good location and a classic hotel. Being classic it's also dated. Nice view of the park, and quite clean, but not the best room to do work in all day. Easy walk to the art institute. No AC, pay for refrigerator, free Wi-Fi one day only. Great lobby though, there were people doing a photo shoot on the couches for an album, I can see why!

Super cool place. Yes I researched the rumors about it being haunted and explored what I could. Big place. Beautiful rooms. (Check out the Gold Room while you stay). We didn't get any action coming from room 441 but we did get orb activity on video in the hallways of the North Side.

Excellent. Location, services and attention.

Beautiful building and lobby. Wood paneling and marble oozing with Chicago history. Rooms leave a bit to be desired. Everything painted stark white, and while I get it’s a very old building it could do with some modern updates (that $4 bottle of water in the room would be more enticing if there was a fridge to keep it cold). Large beautiful windows in the room look out on the lake and Grant Park.

We live in the suburbs but wanted a night out and away from our normal. We decided to stay here because of its long history. We love old buildings and architecture. The paintings, mosaics, molding and detail in the wood is just gorgeous. We are also paranormal investigators and this is one of the most haunted places in Chicago. The hotel staff had no problem with us wandering around doing evps in the stairwell. They were even nice enough to show us around the gold and Florentine ballrooms. If I ever had a fancy shin dig I would want to do it in one of those rooms. The bellman Jose was incredibly helpful and friendly. We probably hung out talking with him at one point for an hour. He also hooked us up with a free appetizer at a nice restaurant for our anniversary. If you don't have a lot of money rooms are about a third of the price in the off season. If you are looking for character and true hospitality I highly recommend. If you like shiny perfect new things not so much.

Excellent oversized hotel for people who like kitsch or in its medium-fresh art-deco juice! But it's really worth ke to know this ambience and super well placed on the edge of Park and in the center. I would go back it's on! Very good value for money.

I thought this place was nice. Staff was nice, plaza was nice, room was a little rough though. Cracks in wall and ceiling. I understand it’s an older building but rooms could use some work. But the great rate we got on the room made up for the small defects.

A little old and a weird smell, but it was clean. The room was not large but the bed was super comfortable. I liked the location.

Beautiful, historical. Went New year's Eve and was packed. At three in the morning it was like I was walking among zombies in their lobby. Hundreds of people. It looked horrific, vomiting everywhere, blood on the ground. We woke up the next morning and was spotless. They did an amazing job. The lake view is amazing and breathtaking.

The hotel has a very charming old feel to it. We got a lake side view room, and the view out the window is great, especially at sunrise! The place is clean and the bed is comfortable. Staff interactions have all been pleasant. Would definitely stay here again!

This is a great location in the heart of Chicago. The lobby has a well-maintained elegance from an earlier time. The staff was very friendly. The room was very clean with a great view of Grant Park and Lake Michigan. If you look hard enough, there are piecemeal repairs to the room and hallways — it's not all brand-spanking new, but well worth the price. I would definitely stay here again.

Class hotel right on the promenade. Had a room out front. Very nice view of the water. Large rooms, good beds and air conditioning. Food we were not at the hotel.

Stayed here a few weeks ago and it was beautiful in the lobby. However, when we went up to our floor and started to walk to our room, we could tell that it was old as the paint was chopping and the wall paper was bubbling. We went into our room and it was very nice and modern. We loved our stay. The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars was because they charged us for the room twice. We paid through Groupon and that's where we reserved our room as well, but when we went to check out they charged us at the hotel. Thankfully they took it off. If I could I would give them 4.5 because they were extremely nice, but they weren't quite all together with their payments.

I loved everything about this hotel. It is so beautiful and elegant. In walking distance to everything (of course) The staff was so nice and helpful. I do see a lot of people reviewing the room sizes, which yes, they are small, BUT, the fact of how old the hotel is and how beautiful it has been kept up. I had no issues what so ever. The rooms were cozy with a view. Just exploring the hotel and soaking up all the history. Absolutely amazing. I will never stay at another hotel in Chicago!

Hotel old but central to go anywhere in Chicago.

Hotel a luxury time now quite decadent and poorly maintained. The atrium is a spectacle for the eyes. 4 stars because the location is amazing.

My family including my brothers and sisters and their families just spent the last 3 nights in this hotel. In total, we had 9 guest rooms. It was the most disappointing experience I’ve ever had in any hotel. The website touts about its “modern amenities”, but that is one of the most laughable things I have read about this hotel. There wasn’t even an alarm clock in the room. The rooms were not just old. They have not been cared for. Furniture, rugs and walls are all in horrible shape. You would never know this by standing in the lobby, however go to the rooms and you will see what I mean. The cleanliness of the rooms was atrocious. The bathrooms were so filthy, we had to wear flip flops so as not to be our bare feet. The rugs were shredded and the dust on the bed’s headboard had dust 1/4 of an inch thick. We never had housekeeping the entire time we were there. The restaurant! Let me tell you about the restaurant. My husband and I had dinner there one evening and the server appeared to have never waited on a table in his life. He made multiple mistakes including bringing our appetizer at the same time as our main entree. The food was extremely overpriced. Which is absurd, in and of itself. If this hotel pops up for you as you’re looking for a hotel in Chicago… RUN. Run as fast as you can! We will never consider this place ever again. What a shame that a grand piece of Chicago history has been so disrespected.

The reception was American (could be perceived as unfriendly). The room with a view of the lake in old style (charm), clean and I. O. If you expect a modern room, you have to ask for it or book another hotel.

My experience with those providing service was excellent. I had no issues from the front desk, to bag check, to room service. I have no complaints whatsoever. This is an historic hotel so be aware. My room had no issues with limited hot water or any other problems. The rooms do appear dated, which would probably be what most people notice. However they had everything that I needed inside and I had no trouble. The location is great. Walking distance of nearly everything that we wanted to do.

There was an insect in my room so they gave me a room with a view of the fountain.

I chose this location for two reasons: the convenient location and the option of a room I could smoke in. I was traveling for business and the ability to smoke inside was so needed for me. My room was very clean and quiet. Nothing too fancy, but the shower was hot and the bed was comfortable, at the end of my exhausting day. My main complaint is that my heater did not work and it was very chilly during my stay. I also noticed that their vending machines are emptied quickly, so grab your sodas for your room while you can. Three trips to the vending machines near the lobby and I never could buy a Pepsi — not a deal-breaker but it was kind of annoying. I loved looking out my window and had a very cool view of the city. No microwave nor fridge, but I wasn't there long enough to need either item. I would not mind staying again when I have more time to enjoy the places nearby the hotel, since it is within walking distance of so many interesting attractions.

The hotel has a great location, facilities are still very frumpy.

The location is perfect if to want to walk to the lake or wander into the city on foot. The views from all rooms are awesome. If you drive prepare to deal with major traffic and parking difficulties. They do have valet which can ease parking stress… for a fee. The rooms are fine but could use a little TLC & general maintenence. It's a good hotel.

I think people need to realize ahead of time how old this building is. It was built for the world's fair in 1893. It has been upgraded, but there are still signs of age. You can tell there are layers of paint, a few creeky floor boards, and small elevators. If you want a newer, fancier place to stay, this isn't your place. If you want vintage, history, and an awesome location, this is for you. All that said, this place was fantastic! I personally thought it was gorgeous and had a great vintage charm. This hotel is in a great location. My husband and I were here for the 1/2 marathon, and they catered to the runners by extending check out by 2 hours. We were so grateful for that. The only thing that I could suggest is to put a mirror above the vanity in the room itself. There was one in the bathroom, and one on the back of the door, but other than that nothing hung on the walls. I would absolutely stay here again!

Excellent location and cleanliness. I stayed two nights and from the front desk it was all perfect. It's just a little noisy the air conditioner in the room. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are spacious. Excellent choice.

Old classy looking place, decently sized room. Everything in working condition in my room on the north tower. Can listen to the room beside me though, so thin walls. Staff has been excellent. Great location as well if you're are doing the "turist-y" stuff. Recommended.

The lobby was nice, full of people and staff coming in and going out. There were restaurants and souvenir stores within. Navigating the hotel was a bit confusing. The hotel itself was quite old and you can see they tried to modernize it with little techs here and there like information booths, touch screen tablets for guests and televisions displaying a myriad of information. Unfortunately, I didn't feel too comfortable inside the hotel. The elevators are small and cramped, maybe fit 4 to 5 adults before you start getting in the way of someone. The hotel room floors are dull and gives off a depressing look. The rooms itself were the same, dull and lacks the modern feel and convenience. At night, the room itself were hit in the morning, cold in the morning. The bathroom weren't very sound proof as you can easily hear someone using the toilets. (September 3rd, 2017).

Great location. We took the South Shore Line from South Bend and the Van Buren stop is only a few minutes walk to the hotel. They checked us into our room at 10:30am Friday instead of making us wait until the afternoon. The lobby and common areas are impressive with plenty of character. However, I don't think they touched the hallways or guestrooms since the hotel was built in the early 1900's.

It was a very nice Hotel but it was a very good location.

My sister and our friend stayed for a long weekend in August while attending a show at Wrigley Field. We found out just before arrival that this hotel was the most haunted building in Chicago. We were a little worried but didn't let that interfere with our trip. However, our second night clothing went missing from our room. When confronting hotel staff nobody was helpful. I filed a report and was supposed to be contacted my management and never was. I called twice upon leaving to follow up and never got a response. The hotel is either truly haunted or hotel staff is using the haunting as a front to steal from their guests. I would not recommend nor would I stay here again.

Great location and room To be perfect should be a little more cared for, but overall it turned out to be a good choice! Only downside the receptionist. A smile every now and then not hurt.

I have stayed at the Historic Congress twice and both experiences have been very enjoyable. The staff has always been professional, courteous and respectful. The rooms have always been clean, comfortable and all functioned as intended. Yes, You will notice some dents and dings on this old building but if you can look past that you will eventually appreciate its history and unique charm. Its location and the view it offers of the Lakefront and Millennium Park are definite positives. I will definitely be going back.

AVOID this hotel unless you get it for $49 usd/night. MISLEADING pictures are shown in every website. The hotel is a piece of Garbage, old and NEVER updated. It's a 6 Motel quality place worth $49 usd/night. ROOMS are small, they will try to give you one with view of a garage or parking lot, unless you Fight for a better room. We paid $200 plus tax and our room was Not worth it. I REGRET staying here and will never be back again. Oh. And want to use the business center to print anything or browse Internet? You need to pay to print or browse! This is a BAD EXAMPLE for the hotel industry of Chicago.

I'm a student at Columbia College Chicago, and this hotel is the cheapest hotel near campus. They offer a multi-night discount and a discount for returning (they don't advertise either of these). The staff is really accommodating and the rooms are nice. My mom loves staying here when she comes to visit. We had a great view at the corner of the hotel looking out onto Congress Parkway and Wabash, and she loved being able to watch me walk home late at night to make sure I was okay. I only docked a star because when you're walking alone late at night, this hotel can seem pretty scary and the fitness center is through a lot of dark hallways and doors. There also isn't anywhere you have to slide your key card to get upstairs into the hotel which is alarming late at night.

Probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Although the main lobby was nice with a old historic charm, the rest of the hotel was very run down! The hallways were dark, dirty, and in need of much repair! The room was BAD! The bed frame was a cheap wooden frame with just plywood that the cheap mattress was laid upon. There was no box springs, and the mattress did not even fit the bed! There was only one small lamp in the bedroom. Maybe that was so we couldn't see how dirty the room was! The bathroom fixtures were old and rusty. There is no refrigerator or microwave in the room. Although the hotel claims to have Wi-Fi, it rarely worked. The knobs on the heat and a/c were rusted and one knob broken off. Our view was of a black fire escape and windows of the other rooms. I would never ever consider staying in this hotel again!

Good hotel, very well located in downtown Chicago, price acceptable spacious rooms and magnificent views. It is seen as a luxury hotel, but is quite outdated and would require an arrangement. The bathrooms are very outdated, the corridors are rather gloomy.

Staff was nice and polite. Allowed us yo check in early. Elevator was broken with no notice on upper levels. Bedding was stained and not very nice looking when we got there. Room was roomy and clean besides that. Day of check out we had not checked out yet and when we returned from breakfast housekeeping was already in our room cleaning.

The hotel is old but this completely remodeled inside. Very po.

What I saw was very low. 5 very close friends chose this hotel for a weekend stay. From what I could see, feels that the place noticed you the years. But in the end it is a place with lots of history and classic. I didn't have the opportunity to learn or present me with any staff working at the hotel.

We had a decent, clean room for a great price. Friendly staff. Great location. It's definitely a cool historic building but it kinda borders on the creepy side too.

Such a perfect place don't have enough great things to say! As a delivery driver, it was nice to park at the door and not be told I have to park blocks away. The guards were pleasant and helpful as one advised where house phone was. The cleanliness inside and outside of the facility made for a welcome environment. The posted signs were an added bonus, especially when I saw the church directory (something for all denominations). The clarity and peaceful volume of the music over the intercom was subtle, not distracting. And the lobby waiting area was fitting for romance or business.

This was the worst hotel stay ever. Despite the location being very convenient and we were able to get around easier. The hotel is very old and has not been updated. The rooms aren't clean and don't even mention the customer service at this hotel. Folks who either don't know their job or don't get paid enough to provide a good customer service. Our heat didn't work, wireless wasn't working, bathroom wasn't clean, and almost every other thing was either broken or not functioning. To make matters worse, my sister and son looked up the ghost story associated with this hotel and none of us slept that night. Beware! Plz don't stay at this hotel unless you want a nightmare experience.

The staff was nice but sounded annoyed whenever we asked questions. The lobby was beautiful but the rest of the hotel seemed grimy and run down. The room was decent sized but seemed grimy as well and the bathroom was small and had a cracked sink. The rooms looked nothing like the pictures.

A true shame that this historic place is so run down! It has lots of potential. The rooms are genuinely dirty, The pillows stink disgusting and you really have to watch out for bugs. The staff is very nice and polite.

I was very disappointed! My room looked NOTHING like the pictures on the website. The bathroom was super tiny & the view was horrible! Defiantly needs to be upgraded! Then, I find out that this is the most haunted hotel in Chicago. I will not be staying here ever again.

The price per night, location, and service were fantastic. The history (and haunting) of the hotel intrigued us and we spent quite a while walking around the corridors exploring the hotel. The hotel is beautiful and ornate in the details of high ceilings, beautiful light fixtures, and granite, gold, carvings, and tile murals adorning much of the public spaces. The history and legacy of the hotel shines, although dulled with age and deterioration. The downfalls of the hotel are in it's disrepair. Peeling wallpaper, damaged woodwork, grungy ceilings and dusty ventilation work against the majesty of the hotel. The drinks in the bar were expensive, but the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was sophisticated yet inviting. Overall, we really enjoyed our first stay at the Congress Plaza Hotel and plan on returning.

It's located in a great place we stayed on the 11th floor the room was sized okay nice beds. Very small TV crapy frontier and the bathtub was very small. Old looking in need of a remodel but okay. Not sure if I would stay here again.

Where do I start… 1. The water in our room and our friend's room was cloudy/brown. 2. Paid a special price for New Year's party… that 6 people attended… in a huge ballroom with drinks that were 10 dollars a piece for bottom shelf liquor. 3. Now we come to the best part of the evening… after seeing absolutely no "no vaping/e cigarette" signs. I thought it was okay to use in the ball room. I didn't get but one puff in and this crotchety old man came over and kicked me out and threatened to call the police… saying he had given me 3 warnings. Which, he hadn't. He escorted me out of the building for absolutely no reason… and honestly expected me to stay outside when we had paid for a room. All of the hallways wreaked of marijuana… but, yeah let's kick someone out for doing something that accepted everywhere I normally go. He then harassed my girlfriend and kept saying we were going to be fined etc… I'm not ever going back to this garbage hotel and I can't believe I can't give it 0 stars like it deserves. This place is a joke and a stain on downtown Chicago.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel and didn't have any problems! At first the heat wasn't warm enough but then after letting it run for a while, it got very warm. I got lucky and got a nice view of the city (Willis Tower) on the 9th floor. Even though the bed wasn't the comfiest, I still slept really well. Harder mattresses can be just as comfy as softer ones for me, I guess! I really liked the vintage feel of the place and felt accommodated. I think for the price it was definitely worth it! My other friends stayed at the Hilton at the same time and paid much more and didn't even get a nice view like me ;) I'll definitely stay here again next time I need a room.

This place wasn't even on my radar until I found out most hotels in Chicago require you to be 21 to check in. After hours of searching for 18+ check in hotels, I was about ready to give up. Then I called Expedia and they recommended thus place. Now here I am, recommending it to you! Check in was a breeze. We arrived around 9 in the morning and bell staff stored our things until later (they also stored our things after we checked out til pretty late in the evening). We came back around 4 and checked in in about 30 seconds. Our room was easy to find and had a wonderful view of the lake and the fountain, just like the reservationist on the phone said when I requested a high floor, good view room. The room itself was great, although we hardly spent any time in it. The lobby, and really the building itself, were stunningly beautiful. The room continued the same feel, so if you want a good looking place that's not modern, this is for you. Can't recommend this place enough.

I had a fairly poor experience over my week stay here. First of all the pillows are terrible, and they don't offer any alternatives. Shortly after I called to find out about other pillow selections someone from housekeeping barged into my room. I was just walking out of the bathroom, belt still unbuckled, when I hear the door crash open. I instinctively thought that I was in fact Jason Bourne and was prepared to defend myself thusly. Luckily it was before I round house kicked her that I was able to read the "Housekeeping" tag on her shirt. She jabbered some excuse which was something like, "Oh, did you have your room cleaned today? Was everything in order? " I also was unimpressed with the hotel bar and restaurant. They have a minimal beer selection with a total of 1 local brew. All of the food is ridiculously over priced ($15 for 8 frozen mozz sticks?! ). On top of these issues I was constantly awakened by the train going back and forth through the neighborhood, due to the walls which somehow seemed to actually amplify sounds from outside the room. The only thing giving this place 2 stars in my review is the hotel structure itself. It has some nice architecture.

I stayed at the Congress Plaza when I was in Chicago on business. I must admit, for $200 a night, I expected MUCH better. The hotel has an antique feel to it — — I guess people who are into that type of thing might like it? Personally, I prefer a modern, well maintained hotel. Like Hilton. My room was dark and dingy, the window had a view of the highrise next door. The door between the room and the hotel hallway did not feel sturdy — — a swift kick from the outside would have smashed right through it. The lock on the door was equally insecure — — in fact, the door latch was so poorly fitted that the door could move half an inch when the door was closed (air currents cause it to bounce around) The bathroom seemed to be somewhat remodeled. It wasn't anything spectacular, but at least the bathtub and shower portion looked semi-modern. I definitely will not be returning. A colleague who was also in Chicago for the same business trip booked his room here due to the hotel being very close to our client's site. He referred me to the hotel so I booked a room here also. Anyways, the location was the only thing I enjoyed about this hotel. I wish I would have booked Hilton instead.

Just a terrible place. They "upgraded" our room to a suite when we ordered a two bedroom room. We needed the extra bedroom because we had 5 people staying in our room. The family suite was overbooked and they switched our room without our consent or even a notice. On top of that they charged me an extra 174 dollars because we had to split up our party. No manger could help us siting that they do not have the power to make any dissensions without the GM who does not take calls on his day off. When calling the hotel on the weekday the GM refused to answer his phone. No apology or any attempt to correct the situation. The rooms for the cost were terrible. Old and smelly. The second room still had paint fumes in the room. Had to sleep with the windows open. Very loud no sound proofing. For the cost very disappointing.
