Reviews of HI Chicago Hostel 3*
The staff was very nice and gave us as many towels as we need. No problems! recommend staying here when in Chicago!
Clean and Quiet in an amazing location.
The hostel didn't consider the secureify for the customers enough. There was a gas leak that I knew of at 5 pm and I reported it to the front desk and 7 hour later, the hostel had not been doing anything. I almost died in my room. I couldn't breath. I lost control of my balances and bang my head with the wall soooo hard. I couldn't feel my body and I had a really bad super strong headache. More over the staff just got me out of the place to get some fresh air and I wait for almost an hour but nobody came to check in on me. About 15 minutes, When the fire department arrived, I just knew that all the pass 7 hours I thought the hostel already fixed the gas leak, they didn't. I missed the new year fire works and experiencing such a bad time ever here. This is the first time in my life that I experienced near — death moment. I hope that this situation won't happen to anybody ever again.
Love the atmosphere here — the diversity, welcoming, the feeling of community, their eco friendly efforts and their support for worthy causes. The location is nice too — close enough to walk to a lot of prominent landmarks!
We really enjoyed our stay at HI Hostel Chicago. Very good location and clean bathrooms. Nice free events like diy chicago hotdogs :) I wonder if anyone could tell me the recipe of the cookies we could decorate ourselves? They were delicious!
A very good place for backpackers. Various free tours organised by volunteers. A very good kitchen where you can prepare your own food. Very good location. Most of the attractions are within 2 miles.
Had the best time staying at this hostel. The kitchen is phenomenal.
During seven-day staying for Chicago Marathon, the unique hostel provided comfortable accommodation. Enjoying great experience is fantastic.
Friendly, earth conscious, great location, affordable. Chicago!
Great events, great amenities, nice and clean and affordable. — с Jon Babin.
Coordination between front desk and staff. We waited two hours for the room to be "ready", just to walk in to an unserviced room. Pretty gross. I wont be returning here and the price of the room nearly TRIPLED from the time I clicked on to make the reservation to the time I paid the bill. For $150/night, I could have stayed at a legit hotel. And there's only one tiny bathroom with one shower per 5-8+ rooms…
Excellent location, very beautiful facilities and management and especially fabulous friendship here! If I were much younger, instead of the private room that I used this time, I wanted to stay at the share room, too.
Great and amazing experience with the best lovely people who work there starting from the reciption to the rooms.
Nice place. Great for travelers. Located in a great hub of Chicago downtown.
We stayed for one night. Good friendly service, bed was very comfy (except the upper bunk is a little challenging to access due to the design of the stairs and side rails), clean bathroom and ample space in the room for you to roll about. USB port and charger at each bed. Huge common area with free breakfast in the morning. Easily accessible through L trains. Would recommend friends to stay here.
Brilliant hostel. Best I've ever stayed in. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Lots of hostel events. Breakfast amazing. Clean. Internet fantastic. The location is perfect. So close to the loop, grant park and everything. Would highly recommend.
I don't mind the idea of a hostel in general but this one didn't really impress me. There wasn't any interaction with anyone else besides the front desk (all the roommates simply had headphones on on their laptop). The rooms were okay, and clean but having to bring your own locks was kinda annoying. You did have a plug over every bed (so you could just lay in bed on your laptop). The front desk wasn't very helpful. They seemed to have issues with a lot of things they were doing. A notice in the room said the front desk would store passport/small electronics for you, but the front desk was both confused and a bit annoyed when I requested this service (since I didn't have a lock). The one employee also spent most of the time trying to hit on a hotel guest rather than helping more customers. It was clearly not an attempt to be friendly since it did not repeat with any male customers.
It's acceptable. I'm a hotel person so the idea of shared spaces and shared toilets is not my thing. Breakfast is pretty good for a hostel. Lots of activities, happy hour, billiards, ping pong, tv. Beds are clean. I wish they'd clean the bathrooms more often. They appear clean I suppose. Really can't ask for more considering its price. Would I come back again? No. Hostels just aren't my thing. But if you are looking for a hostel this one is worth your look. Be aware that there is no real age limit. Not in love with sharing bathrooms with people twice my age.
Visited Hi Chicago for a quick weekend getaway with my wife. We stayed in a private bed with community lounge and bath. We really liked the way the facility was decorated. The breakfast was healthy and felt like a millennial type of place. Although we didn't spend any time to get to know anyone, we could tell that this place definitely made it easy to pick up conversations. We loved the location was so close to Millennium Park, it made going around downtown so easy to pick and get out and explore. Would highly recommend to anyone on a budget.
First time in Chicago and first time staying at Hi Chicago Hostel. Staff was friendly and met nice people from all over the world. I had a private room and shared bath room, kitchenette, and dining room with 3 other rooms. I only seen the other people once. It's in a great area by buses, train, and taxis. It's also in the heart of the city. I went for the taste of Chicago and was able to view it from my room. I would stay their again.
Perfect position in the middle of the "loop", you can go everywhere by foot. Cheap and the price includes a very good breakfast.
This is my first stay in a hotel. I couldn't have chosen a better one. Its location is the main advantage. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.
Great price compare to the neighboring hotel in this area plus a very good location right in the middle of Chicago city center. You can walk around to most of the places from the hotel… it’s takes 5 min to walk to the Chicago art museum, approximately 6min to the Millennium Park, and another 5 min to the Michigan lake etc… great location! Good Wi-Fi connection from the hotel rooms to the elevators and outside 100m the hotel as well. A little bit concerned about hotel facilities, not so bad but not the top also. Great entrance facilitating handicaps as well and those carrying heavy luggage. The personal are very friendly plus you have a free breakfast every morning.
Employees are super nice, and like any hostel everyone that is staying is very friendly. Comfy beds. It's very Central to a lot of the touristy bits in Chicago, so you'll be in a good spot if you're trying to stay.
The best hostel I've ever been to. Everything is clean everywhere. Friendly staff, good breakfasts, in the center of the magnifying glass. From the airport on the Blue branch is very easy to get to-go to Jackson Station. 45 min Drive.

Great hostel. Food, numbers, location. Everything is top notch. Recommend. Do not miss.
Location of Chicago HI hostel is awesome. The train station (loop), downtown everything is in walking distance. Moreover, the price of the hostel is very reasonable. I have stayed here for 4 days, absolutely no complain, and would love to stay here again.
Perfect! The place is in excellent condition. The quality of everything is very good. It's perfectly clean.
You can't dream better location, the rooms are super spacious for a hostel.
Great place really convenient location and good price. There are lots of things you can do at the hostel in case the weather is bad and we met really nice people here. The breakfast is average but the overall experience was great.
A nice place, clean and super well located.
Excellent Llugar! It has a very pleasant ambientw among tourists, it is characterized by this multiculturalism that makes it even more attractive. The rooms can be private or shared, each room is very clean. Those who choose shared feet remember to get your padlock to leave things in a loocker.
Loved this place! In the downtown area near all the attractions and transportation hubs! Rooms and bathrooms were immaculate. Free breakfast included. Daily tours give thru the hostel organization. I would definitely stay there again!
Great place! Great staff! There was Mix up with our room but they quickly were able to fix it! Such a cool place to stay!
This was a great place to bring our family (me, spouse and 9 year old) ;. The three of us stayed in a private room. We shared a small common area, 2 bathrooms (M & W) and kitchenette (microwave & fridge) with a few other rooms. This allowed us to put our rather sensitive son to bed at a reasonable hour but the adults could sit outside the room w/o being stuck in the hotel room trying to stay quiet while he fell asleep.
Breakfast was great; toast, bagels, croisants with a variety of toppings, along with cereal and oatmeal. The common area was well maintained & it was helpful to have a place for the family to unwind without having to go out somewhere else. Loved being right in the heart of Chicago for a great price!
Front desk was very helpful, esp. With calling our cab to the airport early in the AM. We had some miscomunicatons with housekeeping (room wasn't ready when we got there) but everything was taken care of quickly with a call to the front desk. Thank you!
WThank you!
Good food, central, but windows are filthy.
Great stay for the price. I knew I just wanted a basic bed to sleep in and shower to clean up in the morning. The only down side so far is I left my phone charger behind in my room, which was clearly marked with a mailing label with my name and address. I called HI Chicago 3 times to ask if it had been turned in. I understood the it might not have turned up the day I left. But, after calling tonight (3 days later) to ask if it had been turned in and the person answering blankly told me it hadn't been turned in after three days. After asking how that's possible and his response was "I don't know" makes me wonder if he's a representation of how things are handled when things go wrong. I know it's a stupid phone charger, but it didn't seem like the staff were that concerned, even after I told them I had a mailing label with my name on it. Staff don't seem to have common sense to show genuine concern. So, you get what you pay for, including lack of common sense in my mind.
Always great staying here. In the winter it's usually kinda empty but that's a good thing. Staff is helpful. Right downtown. 5 min from CTA (blue line) and 10-15 from Union Station.
Staff is very rude and no common sense! They allow a person blasted out of their mind to check-in during the middle of the night and then you call to complain they tell you have him 9 more minutes… Then later the staff member comes and gets him out all while you have to be up at 6am. Then a few nights later the same thing basically happens. Luckily it was the weekend and I didn't have an early meeting but this guy comes in puking all over. The room cleaning crew is rude as hell, coming in all loud opening blinds turning on all the lights making a ton of noise then leaving without turning off the lights or closing the blinds. The breakfast sucks. The place must have gone down hill majorly because I don't know how it got decent reviews in the past. There are much better options in Chicago, don't say I didn't warn you!
If you need a place to stay for cheap in Chicago, this is it. Especially if you are traveling by yourself. It's a great way of meeting new friends from all over the world. Great amenities including breakfast, lounge, and coffee. They provide lockers in room and in the lobby. Great location downtown near lake Michigan… Near horse statue park south of Millennium Park.
Overall, I loved my stay! I met some great people while visiting. The staff didn't have a problem with answering my questions. My only two complaints are I wish that I had the heads up to bring my own washcloths and the beds were a little squeaky.
The place is comfortable for in hostile. It's in edefi good background but keep it clean.
Helpful and friendly staff. The room was clean and comfortable except for the noise from the metro. There is locker provided in each room but you will need to remember your own lock.
Location of Chicago HI hostel awesome. The train station (loop), downtown everything is in walking distance. Moreover, the price of the hostel is very reasonable. I have stayed here for 4 days, absolutely no complain, and would love to stay here again.
What I love about this hostel is its spacious common areas, super friendly and attentive staff, and free breakfast! The hostel has great common spaces where guests can gather and meet to play pool or ping pong, cook dinner, eat breakfast, watch movies, etc. Etc.! The staff also hosts social events throughout the week where you can meet other travelers or hostel staff who gladly share suggestions of ways to explore the city. We stayed in a private room with a private ensuite bathroom. The room was quite spacious and clean! The location is obviously great as well for someone traveling to the city for the first time — it's right in the heart of downtown, near the city's main attractions. Great hostel experience; I will definitely return.
The hostel is amazing, it has very clean facilities and very friendly people. Characteristic of HI hostels. They have a very varied breakfast included in the cost of the room and I also think that all the rooms have a very vuena view of Chicago towards the Metro. I recommend it widely.
An amazing place, good breakfasts, phenomenal facilities, great atmosphere, a luxury hostel at a good price, very central and all are very friendly, you know a lot of people here.
Nice room with normal good breakfast. Centrally located.
Excellent place to stay at a good price, very accessible and close to the Millennium Park, very good staff attention, common spaces very comfortable and during breakfast a very relaxed atmosphere.
If the rooms did not resemble the cells of Fleury-Merogis it would be very good.
Very welcoming & helpful. Check-in time is a bit on the late side (4pm). But location is AMAZING. Beds & rooms were clean. Free access to a full kitchen & other commodities on the 2nd floor. Truly cannot get a better located hotel for the price! Will visit again.
Very nice hostel on a really great place — it's near to the two subway stops in the center of Chicago. The hostel is also clean and quite, breakfast was tasty. There also is also great lobby in which you can play some games with other people. I really recommend it!
Large rooms, living area, kitchen, and bathroom shared between 8 guests plus extra bathroom and shower in the hallway. Large lockers, spacious recreational area with pool tables, large TV, large dining area, and huge kitchen. Great service, comfortable beds. Right in the Loop, so movement throughout the city is incredibly easy via the 'L'. Easily one of the better hostels in the HI network.
Very affordable, clean rooms and bathrooms, friendly and helpful staff, and the location is perfect. It's next to shopping and theatres on State Street, several different train stations and a couple blocks from Grant Park and Buckingham Fountain. The Greyhound bus Station is only about 7-8 blocks away or $7 cab ride. Union Station is also close by, within walking distance. Blues legend Buddy Guy's cafe/blues club is only a couple blocks away. I will definitely be coming back!
I was traveling to Chicago on a budget and stayed at this AWESOME Hostel for 4 nights and a day in late July. I had a wonderful time during my stay. With it located on Congress downtown I was able to safely walk or take the Chicago public transportation system to all of my daily excursions. The rooms are very nice and clean that connect with a kitchen and bathroom/shower. The rec area (pool tables and lounge) was great to sit down in after a long day and relax. The breakfast was good although not more than a few small pastries, cereal, fruit, bagels and toast. Check in front desk and employees were very helpful with questions and needs. Overall a very nice and enjoyable experience at the Hi Chicago Hostel. When I can get back to Chicago this will be my first place to make a reservation. Jay.
I spent four nights, nothing to say very clean, functional and the personal is nice:)
Clean, comfortable, friendly and affordable. There are a variety of room options, including single, family or dorm style. I was traveling alone and stayed in a 10-bed women's dorm room. Perfect if you don't mind crossing the hall to use the restroom and showers. Very quiet rooms, because there are separate game rooms (pool and ping pong), meeting rooms, kitchen/dining areas (kitchens stocked with cooking and serving dishes, as well as large frig) and TV lounges. Plenty of opportunities for socializing or solitude. Breakfast included, with breads, cereals, yogurt, oatmeal, some fruit. Right in the city for easy walking to lots of restaurants, shopping and sight seeing. Just a couple minutes walk from the Van Buren train station. Friendly, efficient and informative front desk staff. Loved it!
Excellent! Perfect location, fully accessible in a wheelchair.
Very nice youth hostel, very good breakfast and included in the price.
Very young atmosphere with a lot of students (but no worries for the older ones, you will feel comfortable! )
Shared toilets were really clean and well equipped
The only downside rather important: the air conditioning can not be stopped, even at the reception they could not do anything, it will have to do with (our aircon was set to 20 °f so — 6 °c, plan warm clothes)
Great Youth Hostel! Top amenities, top decoration, top cleanliness, top room, top breakfast! I really recommend, in the heart of Chicago, you will feel comfortable! There are even plenty of organized activities, Wi-Fi everywhere, billiards, ping pong table… I loved it!
Rates a bit expensive but very good standing, in full dowtown so very convenient to visit the city. Clean, poorly equipped kitchen but very large, lots of space in general.
I visited the hostel for a social gathering. The annual Blues fest kick off party. This is a great facility with an awesome and helpful staff. I talked to some people that were staying there and they all had good things to say about the hostel.
I absolutely loved this place and would stay there again without a heartbeat. The staff here is awesome, friendly, laid back, and very engaging. They help you out with whatever you need. The place is like staying in a first rate hotel with a plus. I've recommended this place to many people. Everything is clean and very comfortable with unbelievable benefits that really make your trip very convenient, smooth, and easy and enhances your experience. This hostel is truly a Godsend.
Could not be better. Fantastic location, pretty good value for money, clean and spacious rooms with great facilities anf helpful staff. It's just a shame you have to pay to use the computers.
Very good youth hostel at the Chicago Loop. Centralized, inkludes some basic breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and nice and clean doorm rooms. Has all amenities as kitchens, clean showers, TV room, table tennis, and many more. Second time I stayed there. Thumbs up.
First time I sleep in hostel in USA and I have to say it is definitely higher level than European ones. Spacious clean large buffet breakfast beds and with raised underground view. Council!
Clean room, clean bathroom. There is a kind of lounge where you can sit outside the room. You can hear the tram, but it's unavoidable in this perfect location. The breakfast is also in order. Have the hostel taken mainly because of the location. The Internet is also very fast way.
Everything was clean and the hostel is located in a grad distinct (No homeless or weird people arround). Only the windows couldn't be open and the cta trains are a bit noise at night. All in all the hostel is a great place to stay.
Excéntrico, precio, ubicación, muy limpio.
Wi-Fi is soooooo wired! The speed is ok, but always disconnect!
Spent 2 nights in HI Hostel. It was in really convenient location has everything around in walking distance for a short getaway for me. The hostel was way beyond my expectations since it's the first time. The room was clean and has enough space let everyone spread their stuff. Also had personal locker if you needed a secure space to put your stuff when you are out. However you need a lock. Hostel staff was helpful and temporary roommates were pretty quiet. It was a great experience for me as a solo traveler. Definitely will recommend to friends who go to Chicago.
About as good as a hostel can get! This is a terrific spot amidst all the action in downtown Chicago! They offer some nice activities too.
Pros — Clean rooms, nice big bathrooms, tall shower heads, entertainment room nice and big, breakfast was very nicely set up with loads of food and coffee, downtown offers a host of things to do, close to Buckingham Fountain and the lake. Cons — shared rooms have no privacy curtains around bunk beds, too many people per room (8 ppl to share 1 bathroom and 1 toilet), quiet hours not enforced. Overall the place is nice a clean so if you like your privacy get a private room but they cost the same as a hotel.
Went there on a business trip with a group of people, socially fun if your there with people and you can probably find a nice place to visit in the area. Has strange rules for staying there however…
Friendly staff and a fantastic, hip space. Situated right in the heart of Chicago and in the same building as a dirt-cheap, excellent Cuban restaurant. Free food and/or drink daily, affordable stays, and lots of amenities. Only one qualm to speak of: this place needs more outlets. In the larger rooms, outlet competition can get intense. Gadgeted traveler beware! (maybe)
Fantastic! Very affordable and convenient. I stayed for 3 nights in a 10 bedroom and had such a great time. I felt very comfortable walking in and about the building. The facilities are updated and modern but still somehow feel very warming. Wifi connection was great, staff was friendly and helpful, a cute cafe alongside it, and yummy free breakfast! The hostel is a few minutes away from so many great sites and a short walk from the lake. Had an absolutely lovely time there, definitely recommend and will be staying there again when I return to Chicago.
Had a great experience at this hostel. I can't speak to the negative reviews because my room was clean and tidy. I notice one extremely angry review seemed to be under the impression that this was a hotel. Well, it's not. Do not come here expecting a hotel with private rooms. It's a hostel. The point is to meet people and save money by bunking. I stayed in an 8-bed female dorm and had a great time. Cleanliness: The hostel is very clean, modern and comfortable. The only problem was that our shower had a sign that said out of order, but it seemed to be working fine (a fellow roommate used it). I only stayed one night and did not need a shower so I didn't care. Beds: Seem to be twin or twin XL. I'm short so I had enough room to lay down and put my large bag at the food of my bed and be comfortable. Mattresses are pretty soft so if you really need a firm mattress, you might not enjoy the mattresses that much. I was alright with it. Sheets and towel appeared clean and soft. No pillowcases provided which skeeved me out a bit but I just put the towel down. You cannot bring your sleeping bag, but they didn't mention if you can bring linens. Breakfast: Standard hostel fare. Don't expect to get a bunch of free protein. You can get croissants, toast, bagel, muffin, yogurt, oatmeal, banana, apple, orange juice. The oatmeal suited me just fine. Toppings: brown sugar, dried cranberry and raisin, peanut butter, jam, butter. Toasters available.
Private rooms are fantastic but dorms can be set up weirdly. The bathroom is in the bedroom meaning it can be really noisy. Our AC was way to low in the dorm with only a blanket to sleep with and the beds were pretty old. But breakfast was good.
Awesome staff, awesome bedroom, super clean bathrooms, awesome location, awesome breakfast! Best hostel I've ever stayed in so far!
Very nice hostel. I just stayed for one night but I was very happy with this one. I would give the hostel 5 stars if the breakfast would be better.
If you are visiting Chicago — this is a really good place to stay for cheap with good clean amenities and an amazing location. 1. The location — Walking distance to the Buckingham fountain and the bean! 2. The staff — Hats off to them. They really look after you and are very prompt and helpful. 3. The breakfast — I didn't have high hopes for the complimentary breakfast — but boy was I wrong. Very decent breakfast (just try reaching slightly early) 4. Eating options closeby — There are several cheap eating options nearby — Plymouth Rest. Millers Pub.
Love this place! I recommend to anyone traveling, even if you aren't on a budget. The employees and volunteers here are kind and useful. I stayed for 3 days and all the guests were very friendly and considerate of fellow travlers. The facilities could have been a bit cleaner though. I was the first person in my room and I noticed trash under one of the beds and that the floors haven't been vacuumed. The showers could have been a bit cleaner as well, but I always were cheap flip flops to shower in hostels anyways. Be sure to take part in the free breakfast and any events they have going on. I did the hostel welcome party, learn to make a Chicago dog, and the morning walking tour. It's a great way to learn about the city and meet your fellow travlers.
One of the best hostels where I've been, well located, good price, excellent service, comfortable beds and spacious rooms, breakfast included and activities to discover the city, highly recommended.
Stayed for a week. First time EVER in a hostel. Great nightly rates. CLEAN room, bathroom, and bed. Got fresh sheets and towels upon arrival. Would recommend for anyone staying in Chicago for short time. Roommates are a variable though. All 6 of mine were fine luckily. The key is communication of sleeping times and bathing times. Hope this helps.
Concierge could use some education but a good hostel overall. +Try GETAWAY HOSTEL across town for 1/2 your stay. See the other side of the city! Really good hostel too. + Some rooms have bathroom in room. Others use the shared hallway one. Lockers in the room aren't huge but enough to lock your valuables — clothes go under the bed. Location is awesome. Walk to the bean and other museums and aquarium. Get the week long L train pass. Take advantage of the public transit and see the entire city. Usually one group event per night like Jazz night (free) hosted by a hostel staff. Worth it for social interaction. Breakfast is basic; bagels toast and coffee. Fill your tummy then find a lunch spot in the city. They have a TV room with DVD player for movies. Bring your own or sometimes ppl post their movie showing on door. Watch with other guests. My main reason for 4/5 stars is bec the info desk on second floor game room area doesn't seem to outline "HOLY SCHNIKE'S THERE'S A LOT OF FUN, CHEAP, FREE STUFF TO DO" (and how to get there) Concierge was an out of touch *let me look that up* old lady. Poor reflection on the hostel if you can't rattle off 5 essential things in your city from memory. Google is not a concierge.
This hotel was by far unfulfilling, misleading, hotel ever the pictures are a lie and the wording of the hotel explaining what's there. Even speaking with guest service are lies. It's nothing like the actual seeing of the hotel. If you want your own privacy this hotel it not for you. My best bet for you guys out there WARNING! DON'T EVER COME TO THIS HOTEL. All lies, pictures on their web are lie, not the same in person, and explaining the room situation. Don't beleive what you see online until you experience it in person.
I was here for 7 days during Thanksgiving week 2014. I will try and present a fair and balanced review. Pros 1. GREAT location, centrally located 2. Staff was nice and helpful 3. Post checkout storage was much appreciated 4. The Thanksgiving dinner was very good and the dining room is the warmest place in the building! CONS 1. The housekeeping staff needs to up the ante — Floor was not vacuumed for days, banana peeling under the bed. I had to request attention to this multiple times before something was done. Under the beds need more attention. 2. The blankets ARE NOT WASHED after each guest, I watched housekeeping staff fold them and put them back on the beds — YUCK! I noticed that check out beds were not cleaned until days later, one girl had to go down stairs b/c her assigned bed was not clean, despite being evacuated days ago. I got to see A LOT over my 7 day stay! 3. As an avid recylcer, I took this personally — I observed a house keeper empty all three wastebaskets into one bag including the recycle. Major offence to me! 4. Both POSTED happy hours scheduled for that week were cancelled despite staff ASSURING me the second one would be put on my a staff member not a volunteer. I missed the Navy Pier tour due to this. Management needs to have better options when it comes to posted activities taking place IN the hostel. I had to call the front desk and REQUEST that they post a note of the cancellation as people were congregating it expecting it to occur. 5.
Stayed for one night with a friend, had a pretty good experience. The building is very nice and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We did not spend much time there as we were just using it as a cheap place to sleep after we went to a concert and some bars for the night, but the beds were lovely and super comfortable. We did get to meet some awesome girls for a brief moment in our room, and the free breakfast was sufficient. The bathroom/showering facilities seemed small for the capacity of the floor, but it wasn't too big of a deal, we weren't in any hurry. Definitely would come back again even for a longer stay, and I would consider other HI locations in other cities when planning a trip. It is a great option if you want to be in the city but not pay an arm and a leg for a place to sleep and shower.
So great. It was a perfect hotel for two teens doing lolla, and we got a clean safe room with a nice view. We only ever crashed there, but I would have been willing to stay for longer.
I was in Chicago in September 2014 for a music festival. I stayed at HI — Chicago for two nights. I had not made a reservation in advance, but they were able to find me a bed both nights. Rooms — The first night I arrived very late and found out that my bed in one of the 10 person dorms had been become unavailable and so they had up graded me to a 2 person co-ed suite. It was very nice! A full sized bed on the bottom bunk and a twin on top. Desk and closet in the room, but no locker in the room. There are lockers in to down stairs lobby that you can use even after you have checked out. I slept great. The second night I was in a 8 person Male Dorm. The bed was very comfortable (I was extremely tiered from walking and traveling, so my judgment may be a little biased) the blankets we soft and warm. The temperature of the room was warm and all my roommates were nice and friendly. The room was quiet by 10pm and I had another great nights rest. There are lockers in the dorm rooms, they were big enough for the back pack I had, but you might have a little trouble fitting your fully stuffed 60L in them. They have breakfast every morning as part of your stay. Its not super fancy or anything but its always nice. Definitely a plus. Theres also a little cafe connected to Hi. Showers and Bathrooms were clean, big and there was plenty of hot water. (They also provide towels and theres Shampoo/Bodywash in the showers) Staff — The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
Great location! Right off so many different train lines and super accessible to long-distance Metra lines as well. It is mixed into the business district side of the Loop, so there is less activity after 7pm, but definitely still safe to walk in and out of. There is also small programming that goes in the common and conference areas. If you have more than three visitors travelling, you might use your money more wisely at a traditional hotel. But, for a lone traveler or out of town couple on a budget, this is a great option.
Hostel what okay. I think the check in times are 24 hours per day, what what pretty convenient for US.
but. Very very very dirty! There what overall hairs from other peoples in our two bedroom. And now comes the killer!
Bedbugs!
Now I have a lot of bites. And I don't know whether I get them anytime away.
DON'T UNDERRATE THIS REVIEW! Inform your about bedbugs! And then decide yourself!
In German/German!
Hostel is ok at first glance. At closer look sees you but really not a few impurities from his predecessor. The many hairs were quite extreme, which were not only on the floor but also in the bed.
In addition. Bed bugs! Inform yourself about these insects. It's no joke — then rather a few euros more per night pay and go home without bed bugs. To get away again, you must call the exterminator namely at worst. And it costs also.
Ideal site. Well located good price and new installations. I will come back safe.
