Our whole wedding party had the best time of our lives at The publishing house on our wedding weekend. It was an absolute dream to stay there. The staff is so cool to hang out with, including Toast, Angus, and Louie! The decor and beds are out of this world. The breakfast was so delicious each morning! I have too many positive things to say and I cannot fit them all in one review. Thank you!

I just completed my third stay at Publishing House and cannot say enough good things about them. Everyone here is so kind, the rooms are so well appointed—it’s like staying in the stunning guest room of a good friend who has thought of everything to make you comfortable and had the foresight to buy in one of the best neighborhoods in the city, to boot. Love them and will be back.

B & B has nice big rooms, great bed. Highly recommended to stay.

Great option for a weekend getaway in Chicago. Something different from the usual hotel and in a fantastic location. Super close to all the hip and trendy restaurants in the west loop. Staff is super friendly and willing to do what ever they can to make your stay great. Their breakfasts are excellent and again they are always willing to try and accommodate your needs. Will definitely be back as this is a great alternative if you are looking for something out of the box.

While searching for a place to stay for the weekend for a show I stumbled across The Publishing House Bed and Breakfast. I was drawn to all the beautiful pictures of the decor and the adorable pugs. Upon walking through the door I immediately fell in love. As we had our grand tour and met the staff I felt more like a family member than just a customer. Our room was cute and cozy with a bed so comfortable it was as if I were sleeping on a cloud. I never wanted to get up but with a delicious breakfast and hot French pressed coffee/tea waiting for me it was well worth it. Shawn and Kimberly are wizards in the kitchen making delectable breakfasts and tasty treats that can be enjoyed throughout the day. Every room was beautifully decorated and thoughtfully put together making it feel like a home away from home. Also as if being a 20 min walk from the United Center wasn't good enough, there are numerous restaurants, bars and shops around to keep you occupied if you wanted to venture out. All in all, PHB&B is a relaxing retreat well worth checking out and we will definitely visit again really soon!

Really awesome little place. Has a great social/gathering area. I attended for a work event and there was plenty of space for all of us including drinks and dinner. In addition there are speakers throughout the room which is great for playing music. I also love the modern feel of the building with natural wood, glass and iron accents.

We cannot empasize enough how amazing The Publishing House was. We have traveled a lot and stayed in many hotels but nothing was as perfect as this B&B! Everything was so well balanced — the hosts were wonderful, the rooms (and the whole building) beautiful designed, clean, spacious and breakfast was a culinary experience. Thanks again and hopefully we have the chance to stay here again.

Amazing, every detail was beyond fantastic. My wife and I travel a lot and have stayed all over the world, B&B's are our favorite, but sometimes you end up in hotels (ugg). Shawn and Kimberly are fantastic hosts and you will not be disappointed. Their staff are just as welcoming too. Did I mention the made-to-order breakfast was one of the best we have ever had! Every little nuance is welcoming, warm, and enjoyable. Did I mention the heated bathroom floor? What a dream! Wine bar and spa on-site, with free street parking in the area. My wife and I have found a new favorite! And I will be moving my business travel hotel stays, around 16 a year in the west loop, to The Publishing House Bed and Breakfast.

This is, without a doubt, the best lodging experience I've had in my life. Don't be fooled by the somewhat strange, not-exactly-the-b-and-b-you-were-expecting exterior. Go through the BLUE door off of May street. It looks locked, but it isn't! The owners immediately made me feel at home. The upstairs has 24 hour access to loose leaf tea, coffee with French presses, and small snacks including homemade cookies and pastries left over from the previous breakfast. And you can take any of it into your room, no problem.! There is instant boiling water and cool filtered water. The decor, from the wall art to the snack plates, is amazing. The architecture and decoration of the inside of the building gave me life goals for my future home. The beds are EXTREMELY comfortable. The food. Is. Amazing. It's the best breakfast I've ever had, and I love breakfast food. The common spaces are perfect for studying (I'm a medical student) or just hanging out with a book or board game. The rooms are pretty soundproof. They have music going on in the common area at all times and it's undetectable once you close your door. There is a wine bar downstairs that's accessible via elevator that was also fabulous, though a bit pricey. It didn't take us more than 15 minutes to uber anywhere into the city, and I was able to find free street parking. Just be careful of any signs if you do choose to park on the street. There is 1 parking spot available for $20. We stayed in "Bellow".

I can’t say enough about this place. Aside from it being very convenient if you are attending an event at the United Center (which it is perfect for btw), everything about this place is perfect — friendly staff, beautiful room, to-die-for yummy breakfast, convenient ‘round the clock coffee/soda/homemade cookies, adorable doggies, charming shared areas stocked with books/magazines, and a fair amount of good restaurants and bars in the area. Even though this doesn’t give you the convenience of being in the middle of the downtown action — it’s perfect anyway because after your short uber or L ride, you can retreat back to this beauty.

Just west of downtown 2 blocks from a very trendy restaurant scene sits this beautiful b&b with free parking! The outside is stunning but once we got in we kept getting wowed! I think "urban b&b" would best describe it, no doilies here! Lots of repurposed finds with simple but particular detail to them. You can tell alot of thought was put into this place. No detail missed. Kim and Shawn are gracious as well of some amazing cooks! Breakfast wasn't a usual mini buffet, it was made to order farm fresh style dishes with french press coffee and fresh juice. We spent one afternoon just hanging out in the common areas. We followed the sunshine of the huge windows, from reading nooks to sitting by a fire reading and drinking coffee with our feet up feeling so comfortable. Amenities? All the little touches are what I would refer to them as… heated bathroom floor, black make up washcloth so I don't have to dirty up white linens, books in every room (for purchase if you desire), n/a beverages available at all times in coffee bar, a wine bar downstairs, robes, a nice hairdryer (compared to cheap ones that can't even dry your hair), and the comfort of walking around in your sweats and slippers along with everyone else! My husband usually always stay downtown at 4-5 star hotels for the service and amenities. This experience has changed our minds on what that means. We will be back next year for our annual bday weekend.

Staying at this place will FAR EXCEED your every expectation! The rooms are very clean, cozy, and must have good sound insulation as I slept like a baby! The rooms are also so thoughtfully designed. I loved the heated floors in my bathroom (February… in Chicago! ) and the large windows provided a lovely perch to view the city beyond. The the staff was helpful, informative and unobtrusive — the perfect balance. And the two pugs — Louie & Angus — are, of course, adorable and friendly. One more point… you could go out for breakfast but why would you when the breakfast they serve here is far better than anything you'll find anywhere else? My only hesitation at writing this review is that by doing so, reservations will be that much harder to get in the future. Keep up the excellent work and thank you for the much needed cure to my February Blues! I'll be back and I'll sing your praises to anyone asking!

We could not have had a better stay. It was so relaxing and inviting. The owners have poured their hearts into this space and have been meticulous about the details. Urban, even slightly Bohemian, this place begs you to relish the art while resting and enjoying the comforts of Shawn and Kimberly’s Home. Lovely couple. Great staff. Can not wait to go back for even longer. “Loved it” almost totally covers it; it was exactly what I wanted.

The atmospheric was absolutely wonderful. The space was beautiful. The beds are so comfortable. Breakfast was awesome. I would recommend anyone wanting a place to stay in Chicago to check this place out. Shawn and Kimberly have done a great job on this place. They are awesome and the friendliest people I have had the Honor to have met. Thank you both for your hospitality. We will be back soon.
