This place makes motel 6 look like the Ritz-Carlton! They make the outside look beautiful and inviting, the rooms however are not the same. Very outdated everything. The floors were rotted out, the toilet leaked all over the bathroom. They didn't want to give us extra towels to clean up the mess, let alone clean or fix the problem themselves. No fitted sheet on bed, just a top sheet laid on top (and too small, I might add). Also, the sheets and blankets had burn holes in them. The window wouldn't open, and the bathroom counter was about to fall off. Oh, and last but not least the door to the bathroom wouldn't close for privacy. Room was very small for price. At least there was a mini fridge and microwave, which is the only reason they get one star.

Definitely was scared before checking in as I had booked before reading the reviews. However, I'm not super disappointed. I mean yeah, the room is shabby. But this is an old motel, and it's the cheapest rate in town besides Ocean Lodge which I have stayed there before mutiple times and always something was wrong and they would try to charge me for things I didn't sign up to be charged for. Anyway, this place has AMAZING A/C. The TV works. The Wifi works. There's a mini fridge, works. The pillows are fluffy and comfortable. Could the rooms use some TLC? Yes. But I didn't walk in here expecting a five star hotel, so I'm not let down. I give three stars.

I have stayed in hotels around the world and this managed to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in It is a budget establishment, so some allowances should be made. I could have accepted the lack of washclothes, shampoo, kleenex, or coffee maker. You get the amenities you pay for. But it was the utter filth that horrified me. My feet stuck to the floor in pools of grime, from door to bathroom. The beds were short-sheeted. The deadbolt was literally broken off of the door.   There was pizza in the fridge left behind from whom ever had been there before us. The location is also suboptimal and frankly unsafe.   The stairs were routinely blocked by people shooting up. I would have loved to have brought this up with management, but they couldn't bother opening the office before 9 AM. Don't stay here. There are other budget options. This isn't worth your money.

I will never go back to motel Santa Cruz. Lousy customer service. The price is just not right. Dirty rooms. If there was a way to give them 0 Stars I would do that.

Not worth the prize really old looking place. Like they just painted the place to seem like it new. I didn't see any room cleaning service.

Way too much money for the quality of living in which they provide… And on top of that go kick you out whem you have done nothing wrong and won't give you your money back. Nasty, dirty as well…

Not a safe or comfortable place to stay at all! There was no fire extinguisher nearby and the fire detector in my room appeared to have been removed from the ceiling. The stairway looked dangerous, unstable, and filthy. I don't like to complain, but this motel needs tons of work done to it.

Not a horrible place if you're on a budget, but the rooms are dank and seems like they just pulled the covers back over the bed after the previous guests left. The woman who owns the place (and seems to have her house connected at the office) is abrasive, snappy, and downright rude. Better to go to Motel 6 or some other generic hotel rather this place.

Worst place ever to stay! Please read all other review about how bad it is and believe them. I didn't and made the mistake of booking for the weekend. This place is not a place for decent family oriented people. I won't write more because everybody before me already wrote what I would write.

Management argues about giving towels, for some reason the maids "forget" to place them in rooms. Toilet paper and cups are also rationed out like gold. No breakfast or even coffee in the office or rooms. Actually even if it was provided I'd have to pass, the number of roaches is amazing. Even in broad daylight they wander about with not a care in the world, the garbage left in the room from previous renters and what's scattered in the parking lot keep them well fed. If you want every other aspect of your trip to look great just stay here… There is nowhere else to go but up. This place makes the slums of Calcutta look plush. Stay away for the sake of your health anf sanity!

This is honestly the most awful place I have ever been to. The staff smelled and the front desk man had all of the doors locked because he was busy sleeping in the back so we had to wait until he decided it was time to wake up. We checked in and 30 minutes later (the time it took to take multiple trips up the broken wobbly stairs that made me fall) we decided we wanted a refund. Then the man said that the only way he could've given us a refund was if we had wanted it 5-10 minutes after we checked in and that we had "been checked in too long". We usually go cheap when getting hotels due to the fact that we don't spend a lot of time there because we are out enjoying our time. But this was too much. The bed sheets had so many stains in it I was glad we brought our own. The sheets were basically one large stain. All of the other places are far better than this one. Go down the street some more and find a better place than this failed inspection of a trashy building.

So I am here at Motel Santa Cruz. For all you who gave negative reviews, it is apparent you are not beach and surf people. I didn't come here to sit in a motel room. The room was clean and I had a place to rest my head. The staff were great and Sabrina was very welcoming. Have a feeling the negative reviews are from people who are not grateful. You wouldn't be happy with a million dollar check because it's on the wrong color paper. Going to surf and enjoy mu blessings.

A very hotel. Nice to rest and close to the beach.

There was blood on the beds under the sheet. Mold on window seals. They tried to patch the roof in the room with a 4x8 sheet of plywood bending down probably mold above that. Heater right up against the bed not safe. If u have kids watch the shower it gets cold and the scalding hot. And on top of that $402 on saturday. Not worth it. Never again.

Non-smoking King Room isn't a whole lot bigger than the bed, but there is a mini fridge, ancient microwave, and a small LCD TV. The AC works well, and thankfully didn't blow out a bunch of dust. Unfortunately, the toilet has a leak that leaves the floor wet outside the bathroom door. The front desk staff could have been more friendly (they were quite brusque with us at 7:30 pm) but check-in was fairly quick. Location isn't too horrible, there being a 7-11 across the street and a few restaurants within a decent walk. The Boardwalk also isn't too far off, about 30 minute walk. Thankfully, considering it's fairly close proximity to the Boardwalk, street noise wasn't noticeable from my room.

It's not pretty, but it's one of the only places I will still stay in Santa Cruz, CA. Mainly because the other places have been extremely rude, and I'm not going to give my money to someone who treats me badly. The woman who owns this place has always been respectful and nice to me.

Bedding was rough and smelled funny, room reeked like cigarettes, shower lacked pressure and had very little control over temp. I liked the microwave and minifridge which seem to almost be standard in rooms now. The TV is an old CRT type which wastes power and looks terrible. Climate control in the room is not connected to the thermostat, instead you have to manipulate an archaic wall unit and wait a long while before it actually kicks on. Staff seemed alright, parking was fairly secure and has cameras on the lot, and the location is VERY CONVENIENT to get around Santa Cruz. Room fare was rather expensive considering there was no breakfast or a High Speed Internet connection, and the room wasn't well-kept or prepared.

This place is a step down from camping. The toilet did NOT work, so instead of investing in plumbing, they gave us a plunger. The floor is gross and had used floss and stains on it. We did not trust the sanity of the sheets so we were cold and slept with a blanket. We tried to turn on the heater, but it made it smell more and more like a toaster oven. The walls are super thin and you could here every sound next to us. From the guy barfing for four hours, to the domestic violence next door, I got about two hours of sleep. In the morning when the noises were gone, the springs in the bed started to hurt my back, so I got up. The water that I used used to brush my teeth tasted weird and the towels felt like sandpaper. Sadly, I did not take a shower because of my sanitation concerns. Please pay the extra forty to a hundred dollars to GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Worst motel experience ever. The staff seems family ran so no true meaning to customer setvice. The toulet didnt work they just gave us a plunger. The room looks like it just was done beign remodeled by a pornstar filming a bukake.

Seems to consistently allow shady people to stay here, which they end up kicking out most of the time… The owners of the motel also has some "long term tenants" living in a few of the rooms. They seem to have a lot of issues with overdosing (Emergency services are seen here quite a bit), they engage in borderline domestic violence at all hours (the parking lot should be avoided after 10pm), expect your car to get "cased" and a few have been broken into, in the past few months. Seems to be a high drug/prostitution use area, even at the motel itself… You can expect loud and petty drama/yelling matches from time to time, between guests, friends of guests, and/or the owners of the motel, some of them are truly Oscar worthy performances, albeit i'd rather be sleeping at 2-3am. Police, Paramedics, Firetrucks are at motel at least a few times a month dealing with these problems. Usually at any given time, you can find someone posted up in a car, or wandering around the property and they might offer all kinds of illegal drugs, or in the later hours, you might be propositioned, which makes sense since it seems like some or most of the rooms are used as drug dens basically it seems. There is a reason this place has consistently been reviewed as a 1 or 2 star motel for a long time. As far as the rooms themselves, they still seem poor, its really a roll of the dice, most of the rooms can still have strong/pungent smells and stains, beds aren't the most comfortable or seem older.

First, the people who run the place are very nice, and it is the cheapest, pet friendly place I could find, but this was one of the most miserable hotels I've ever stayed in. The room was unbearably cramped, smelly, and decades out of date. There were also bugs crawling over the bottle of orange juice I was drinking which really shouldn't be surprising since the floor under the bed was sticky. The towels are available by request and have the consistency of door mates. Oh, and one of the tenants appears to be hoarding collected items in one of the rooms.

If I could give this place a 0, I would. Let's start with this, we booked through a third party website, like people from the 21st century do, and we picked this place SPECIFICALLY because it does not advertise a deposit. I called 2 days before to confirm the lack of a deposit and was promptly informed of a $100 deposit. Ok we were ticked off, but whatever, nothing we could do to change it. So we get here and the check in time I was told over the phone was the wrong one. So we left and came back and checked in at the "proper time". We were met with a cold reception by the gentleman behind the counter and checked in mostly quickly. We were given our room keys and number and we had to ask for directions to our room. We drove around the the side of the building, walked up the staircase, open our door and were promptly greeted with the most haphazard room either of us has ever seen. Let me set the scene for you, the room is far to small for the king sized bed that was in it, the TV is huge and old style boob tube (for lack of a better descriptor), there is a mini-fridge and a microwave (though neither of us would ever use the microwave as we both lack the desire to catch the plague, trust me its gross. ) and the fridge wasn't even plugged in. The bathroom "area" is small and at an odd level and the trash cans didn't have liners, which seemed odd to my husband and I.

This room was disgusting. The only thing good was the AC. The smoke detector was missing, the add says that it has a clock, hair dryer and ironing board which it didn't. Cigarette burns in the bedding and bath tub, no floor mat to stand on when getting out of the bath, the phone was broke in half with wires sticking out and they never came to clean the room. We went to Santa Cruz on July 31 and stayed at Motel Santa Cruz and it was the worst place I have ever stayed. It had the old style TV, the pictures were hung upside down, no coffee maker, no coffee in the lobby, no wash clothes, lamps were busted, the bed blocks the door, the bedspread had cigarette hole in them and it is nonsmoking. And only one trash can without a liner. There was a bright light right outside our windows. I was woken several times during the night from cars driving by.

Don't book, it. It is a dump and smells like a Indian restaurant. Go a block up to Continental Inn. Very nice and cheaper and has pool.

We stayed here Saturday after other reservations fell through, It was late and they only had 1 room left. Still not a reason to charge us $365.00 for the night! Bad Karma.

This place is a complete DUMP. Don't spend the money even if you are desperate. The place REEKS of cigarette smoke. It is horrible Read through the complaints about this place. I'm reporting them for code violations to the City of Santa Cruz and to County of Santa Cruz. Take the warning everyone has made and stay away from this place. Filled with Crack heads and rude staff. Holes in the bed spread from cigarette burns in a NON SMOKING ROOM.

Please don't do this to your family. This place is a dump. I learned my lesson trying to be cheap. Light fell of under tje head board on my babies head, microwave was burned. Said they dont give you towels unless you are on first floor. Aphgan people own it so you should know its cheap. Bathroom light sounds like a car muffler and TV has no cable but 3 channels. Tv is from the 80s. Windows don't lock. People had posters on windows so this is there residence. Homeless people hang out there, hookers corner right there and office people are rude. Dont ruin your vacation like I did. I only open this email to write a review.

It was fabs the room had giant rats and a human gophers.

I have been coming to Santa Cruz with my kids for a long time. I have always stayed at this motel. The housekeepers are freindly as well as the front desk clerk. I was always charged a fair price. There are fresh sheets and the rooms are clean. It is also walking distance to the Beach Boardwalk.

Best rates in santa cruz, walking distance from downtown and beach. Very clean room and nice front desk person. We will go back to motel santa cruz.

This place was an absolute dump, it had to be one of the worse motels I have ever stayed in. We requested a non-smoking room, the room smelled like cigarettes. No towels in the room, filthy carpet, awful service. The bedspread had multiple cigarette burn holes in it. It was terribly dark and dank. There were some very unsavory looking people hanging out in the parking with sleeping bagsThe toilet didn't flush properly. For $169.00. I expected much more, particularly since this is the off-season. I will never stay there again.

Bad service,. I ask for non smoking room. They gave a room on the 3rd floor, we were in the room for about 1 hour aprox, no towels, no bags in the garbage can, the room smell like smoke, It was hard to breath, I ask for refund they said no because I had used the room already, I don't recommended to non smokers. The people that work at the motel were very rude to me. Also their were two guys at the office that wanted their money back because they saw a rat in their room, the Indian lady said to me and to them that she cannot give me my money or to them she said to stay or leave now.

I'm here right now and I'm going to sleep in my car. What a waste of $160 for a bed! Room is tiny, dirty, run down and uncomfortable. Shower curtains are a single sheet of cloth, not waterproof. Bathroom is flooded. Mini fridge doesn't work. Bed barely fits in tiny room. Remote doesn't work for TV. Strange smells. Overall, worst ever. Id rather sleep on the parking lot floor for free.

SCAMMED: My experience stops at the reservation level so I cannot speak for the facility, however, if it is as harsh as their service — I would run now! I went to their site and made my reservation online. I was sent a confirmation via email. I had to cancel my reservation due to an emergency (one week in advance) and there began the fiasco of the week. The obviously Indian motel keepers said, "your reservation was booked online so you must cancel it online. " This was not an option on my confirmation sheet, so there was no information with which to do this. They gave me the number of the company who handles their online transactions — and they said "oh no — you just cancel with the motel directly. We just handle the monetary transactions. " This is when I realized I was being SCAMMED. I called the motel again and told them they were wrong and needed to cancel my reservation directly, and that is when the woman went psycho and started yelling at me and hung up on me. Yikes. I had to cancel my credit card right away. My advice: These people are NOT TO BE TRUSTED. Please be careful.

This motel has a good location to many places. A 7-11 where we conveniently purchased the facial tissue and paper towels. But local buses contributed some noise. One of the 3 staff in the office made an effort to meet all of our requests with nice smile. We appreciated her positive attitude.
