Location is great, but that is. We booked 2 twin rooms. First of all, they gave us rooms on different floors. Which is not okay for me. We checked in early so they could've thought about this. The one room was ok, it had a garden view and 2 separated beds. Which is also weird. Luckely we were a group of friends and not a couple. There was a big window and light in the room. In the bathroom there was a window as well. Then the other room was a roof room. With a low ceiling. Th…e room was REALLY small. And super hot. Barely any fresh air in the room. There were 2 mini windows, one wasn't able to open. The other one could be opened BUT the TV was placed before it so actually you couldn't open it. As I talked about my concerns downstairs, they made fun of me. Making remarks like "you can just open the window, it's a beautiful room, … '. I'm 160cm tall. My had almost touched the ceiling when I was in the shower. It's a good thing I'm not 180cm… We paid €308, 36 for EACH ROOM for ONE NIGHT. So in total we paid €616, 72. This was not worth it. Really bad and bad service. Also in the booking they said there's service in dutch. But when we made a complained they didn't understand Dutch. I think if you book 2 rooms, please give rooms on the same floor. And similar rooms; not a room in hell and a normal room. And when a costumer has a complaint, please handle it well.

Lovely boutique hotel close to canals, great restaurants, the museum quarter, and other attractions. Convenient location! Our cottage had ample room for our family of 4. We loved the garden area. Very friendly and accommodating staff. We hope to return soon!

A delightful boutique hotel close to Vondelpark and the museum quarter. Very quiet yet close to bustling Leidseplein. Excellent breakfasts and a welcoming staff.

Great location, simple and clean bedrooms, outside garden area is key to the hotel, 24 hour security. Only downside was one fan in the bedroom which meant that not everyone could have it.

Apart from parking price everything was as expected. Great staff. Ideal place.

We stayed with four people for about 5 day it’s a nice location, friendly employees and good service the rooms were very clean – we got a room outside, which was also not too small I can totally recommend it!

Robert at the front desk was very helpful and speaks English well. I have read most of the reviews on the website. I’m very pleased with our hotel accommodation at Hotel Alexander. Our short stay here is like home away from home. The hotel is close to the tourist spots, very clean and I love the garden. We have all we need.

Quiet area but close to museums and to the most beautiful part of Amsterdam in the evening, Rembrandt Square.

This is a nice hotel at a good, central location with family rooms away from the main building and looking over a garden. This makes everything easier: the kids can burn their excess energy running around in the garden, you're not worried about noise levels etc. The room was clean with a modern feel to it and hotel staff are very pleasant.

Lovely budget friendly hotel near the main museums in Amsterdam. The room was small but quiet and the bed was comfortable. There's no lift to my room so I had to carry my luggage up the stairs. But the convenient location to so many museums and restaurants made up for this though. The staff were friendly and helpful. You can get buffet breakfast for 30 euros but there's a supermarket nearby if you want to get your own food. Overall a pleasant stay.

Very small rooms. There's nowhere to turn around. Incredibly small closet. A tiny toilet. Absolutely uncomfortable mattress, very soft, back fails. Little lighting. Old furniture. The price is low and that's the only plus.

Its quite far out of the way and the hotel is very dated. It could do with some tlc and some modernising. Staff were lovely though.

HORRIBLE The room was tiny! Like a prison. Wouldn't even let my dog stay in a place like this. Staff were friendly until we mentioned the room smelt like a dirty old man. The bed smelt and as people can see the pictures on the website that the room wall colour is meant to be white! But it was yellow as someone had been smoking in there (looks like years years of smoke damage) The manager woman gave a funny look when we said it smelt, and the man tried to make any excuse. Don't waste your money on this disgusting place. Over priced for what it is. It's not a way to spend a holiday. Will be taking action to the 'cocky' staff. Needs to be shut down. Would never ever stay here again.

Very cute hotel, lovely location and staff! Even recieved a rose and chocolates on valentines day which was nice surprise!

The hotel was not bad but be careful because I disappeared something from the room.

Great price for the location. The area around the hotel was nice to walk around and the room was comfortable. The hotel was a bit old but overall I still had a good experience here.

Non molto lontano dal centro della città, l'Alexander Hotel si trova a qualche minuto a piedi dai principali luoghi di interesse di Amsterdam. Personale cordiale e disponibile ad eventuali informazioni riguardanti la città, colazione abbastanza fornita con non molti posti a sedere, in generale un buon hotel in cui riposarsi dopo una giornata pesante.

Central Hotel, friendly clean staff always available.

Very friendly staff. There's a guy who even speaks Spanish. The room was comfortable and spacious. Comfortable bed.

Room was small but spotlessly clean and well furnished. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Had to ask for a kettle. Breakfast a bit pricey for a cold buffet. Staff all very friendly and helpful.

Typical Amsterdam Hotel we found ourselves well taking into account the Dutch standards.

Terrible prison-like room. Thin walls and a bunk like bed. The absolute smallest bathtub and shower I've ever seen. In fact the receptionist asked me how tall I was. If it was priced like a backpackers dorm room it may be forgivable. But I spent €140 that awful night.

The room was tiny and it felt like hostel and not hotel. Was too expensive for what we got but the hotel stuff were awesome and helpful. The location is great.

Eventually because we arrived late, the rooms we got were tiny but all was tidy and breakfast was good. Location had quite some influence on price I might suppose.

Affordable, excellent links to Basel Bahnhof (Basel Main Train Station) via the tram and close to the KunstMuseum (Art Museum), shopping centres and so much more. Clean room, ok breakfast — if you have a sweet tooth you'll be fine. Take them seriously though — if you smoke, you will be fined 200 CHF (Swiss Franks) and people like me get bumped up to a Double room for free. Yay! I have melted on the top floor with no AC. Rooms had some work done but leave to be desired. They should consider hiring a better painter next time around. Friendly staff, though.

Quiet hotel close to all museums. Access from the airport by Bus 197 stop LEIDSEPLEIN.

Staff has been great here and the rooms were a great size and very clean! The location is also perfect and I would definitely stay here again.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, especially the bed and the location is central. What was disappointing was, there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms. These could be purchased in the reception area which was a little on the cool side and unpleasantly cold when someone opened the doors to go out for a smoke. The bar in reception has a very limited range.
The staff were very pleasant and I feel that by providing a few creature comforts, this would be an outstanding place to stay.

We loved this little in-town hotel. The ONLY reason it doesn't have 5 stars from me is because the elevators only reach half-floors, so for us, there were still a few stairs to be managed with our suitcases. The breakfast was great, the room was clean, cozy and large for such an old building and based on others we've been to in Europe. But the best part about this cozy spot is the hotel staff. Such lovely people and so helpful. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Small room but near the centre. We had a 2 person room and got a What looked like a single room with a 1.40m bed. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the Lightning switches were behind the pillows. The room wasn't worth the price. See pictures of the small room.

Nice location, close to 3 major museums, bright, pretty new, staff was very helpful and Nice, pity the poor bathroom cleanliness.

Hotel Alexander, excellent reception staff, I lost my passport in the stay in Holland and thanks to the staff, in particular who speaks Spanish helped me find it, very grateful to Tony and the girls.
Also that is very warm and excellent service, thank you again. The super recommend.

Very expensive if compared with what it is offered. We book for a double room and we received a single queensize bedroom. However, location is good, close to the city centre.

We chose Hotel Alexander based on Rick Steves' recommendation. It is conveniently located right off a bus line from airport and walking distance from canal tours and trams. The booking website does not distinguish between Queen and 2 Doubles, and unlike the comfortable queen rooms pictured we got a room with 2 singles in the dim basement. The bathroom seemed to share a drain with their laundry as it would gurgle suds all night (very disgusting). The rooms are poorly insulated from one another, we got to hear all our neighbors conversations. Even in late April you have to keep windows open to get any air, which also makes the room very noisy — — there's foot traffic at all hours, lots of a laughter and phone conversations and smoking all times of the night. This was definitely a 2 star stay. Consider Best Western or Mariott further down the road.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and had excellent stay. Hotel is well located for visiting all attractions and is clean and provideds excellent breakfast. Highly recommended.

Nice and friendly hotel, pity the room is in a basement with little light, no air exchange and practically under the feet of the passers.
