The hotel is within walking distance from the Central Station (5 mins) and the red district light, there are also a lot of good restaurants and bars nearby. The room was nice and clean. My only complain is that there is no elevator and the stairs are very narrow.

Stopped in for a few drinks, service was great and a very chilled out atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

There's something deep and nostálgic about staying with the Old Nickel. The old wood bar, the streets it's on, the area, the fact is not just one building… The list goes on. They have super friendly and helpful staff who maintain it and support you. Yes, the rooms can be very small, not that I need much for a day or two. My shower was however bigger than most in The Netherlands. And, it's SO close to the train station. Plus, the price can't be beat. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat! Thanks Ol' Nickel!

This hotel was in a perfect position. Extremely close to the train station so you don't have to drag your bags through the city. The rooms are modern and clean however as other reviews have said they are very small. But you don't go on holiday to stay in the rooms! The only downside was the windows in the street facing wall. There was a gap in them which meant it sounded like they were open all of the time. We did lose a bit of sleep over it. But overall I would say this is a good hotel.

Rooms a bit small but functional the highlight is the location a short walk from the station and the Red Light District 5 minutes walk from Dam Square and major tourist attractions, 15 minutes by car (30 on foot) from the zoo and the Van Gogh Museum Gentil Staff e.

Small but very comfortable rooms, very friendly staff. Bring your own kettle and don't stay here if walking up a couple of very steep flights of stairs is a problem. 4 tough looking guys in the bar when we checked in at midnight were lovely to my 6 year old who was a bit hyper, not sure I approved of them letting him push the buttons on the gambling machine to be honest but they were very friendly.

This hotel is right across the road from the Central station. It's a block or so west of the red light district. Location is a tiny bit seedy but awesome. It's right off one of the main strips and there's a bar downstairs. The barkeep is also the hotel concierge and you check in at the bar. I was put in a room in the second building, just down the street a few doors away. The alley it overlooks is fairly busy and there's a karaoke bar right across the alley so expect a lot of noise late into the night. My room is cozy, with barely enough room for a single bed and a desk with a stool. Coats hang over the headboard. Very limited storage space. The bathroom is tiny and clean. Fresh towels. I was on the third floor so lots of long narrow Dutch stairways. The staff was polite and left me alone. Room cleaning was around 11am. The Wi-Fi was pretty spotty and most cafes and coffee shops weren't much better. Also my TV remote died my 2nd day there. None of it mattered. I couldn't have picked a more perfect spot to lay my head when I was tired. Right in the middle of everything but cozy and private. I loved it.

I have only been here for a drink or two but have seen once of the rooms which has been refurbished and looks very nice but quite small but ideal location for everything. Good selection of beers and a friendly cat called Pino is some times in the bar.

Really the service you get at Repcion is good but they lie on the Internet because I am with my partner I an given different beds as in email we put beds together I responded that if the bathroom hose the shower broken I the bracket is broken.

The location was very convenient and in a busy area. The rooms are quite small, but were adequate for our stay. Will stay again.

Great place with clean rooms and comfortable beds. Best part is having a whole pub in the wtreet level which you can access directly from the hotel's stairway.

+ Awesome location + Clean rooms + Good room service + Good price + Helpful people at the reception — Small rooms — Narrow staircase : would be difficult to lift your bags as it doesn't have an elevator. — road side rooms are way too Noisy : but that's a price you pay for the location.

Quaint bar with resident cat. Good choice if speciality beers, mainly Belgian. Great for a rest from sightseeing.

Great location within walking distance to the central train station even if you are dragging a bag. Lots to see and do and eat convenient to your door if you stay here. Loved the off season rates with the Indian summer weather (10/17) Clean room, lots of hot water but too small for5 stars.

It has two karaokes opposite five meters away.
Without a wink until 3:00 in the morning.

It is in great location, very near from Central station & Red light district, it's bit noisy at night because front of the hotel have karaoke night club, so around 2.30 also sound was coming from that club. Beside that it's fabulous hotel.

The hotel room was lovely. Really well made in such a small amount of space. The only mirror in the room was in a place you couldn't use but that's minor compared to how clean and comfortable it was. There was a slight smell of sewage so that was a little off putting. We were on the top floor so take suitcases up very narrow stairs were difficult to say the least. We were asked to be placed in a quiet place so were given the back room and it was quiet enough for us which was great. Location was perfect, everything was within a 10/15 minute walk so would definitely stay again.

Although the room is definitely small, the location of the hotel, cleanliness and tranquility are really excellent.

It is in a great location! The bathrooms are very new and even have hair dryers for guests to use. The hotel rooms are small, but so are most rooms in Amsterdam. There is also no air conditioning, but this too is common in Europe. Overall, a great European hotel.

The building is in the heart of Amsterdam (near Red Line District). Comfy bed for a reasonable price (if booked in advance). The reception/check-in is at the pub Old Nickel.

It's skimpy, cheap but I like the concept,

The hotel is cozy, clean, its staff is nice and has a great location. Everything is near by, plenty of bars (there is one in the hotel itself), restaurants, the Red lights area is literally just around the corner, two minutes to the main train station. That was very important to me, as I had to commute to a smaller city near Amsterdam in the first couple of days of my visit. Also, most of the "must sees" are on a walking distance. The only drawback is the noise you have to put up with until the early morning hours. So, I would recommend earplugs, if you want to get some decent sleep :) if you're into it :) )

Decent Hotel if you have ability to adapt. The room, stairs and corridors very narrow, but overall hotel enough to just stay that time to visit the city. Decent daily cleaning. Worth his star.

Great hotel, prices in the norm despite being in the center, clean! I recommend.

Central Hotel, nice and clean. The rooms are new and well maintained. Recommended only for young people for two reasons: 1) It is in the nightlife area of Amsterdam and the night feels a bit confusing under the Windows 2) to climb in the rooms there are narrow and very fast stairs!
However I highly recommend.
