This is a truly wonderful inn. I was moved by the story of how the 18th generation head of the family revived soy sauce brewing for the first time in 70 years, and it was a very fulfilling experience, including trying out soy sauce pressing, learning about the history and characteristics of Nara during an early morning visit to the shrine, and taking a walk, as well as listening to mysterious stories. It was for 1 night. Everything about the room, the quality of the food, and so on, was filled with hospitality and was the best. Not only the service but also the overall taste was good, and the renovation of the building was very beautiful. All the staff were very warm and polite, and I was able to spend a comfortable time there.

The location is very difficult to find, but when you get there, it's a sight to behold.

The concept of being able to stay in a soy sauce brewery in Nara is wonderful. After checking in, you can rent bicycles so you can tour Omiwa Shrine and ancient tombs. It's best to arrive early and take a walk around. It is also a good idea to take part in the morning walk that the head of the family takes himself.
Food and location are problematic. Meals are served only at the soy sauce brewery, where they serve a variety of soy sauces and koji, but they are all too salty. It probably depends on the staff, but there was no explanation of the food and the service was terrible. You won't understand unless it's explained to you lol.
I will get lost if I go by car again. I think it's better to prepare in advance using Google Maps.
However, the location is close to Kashihara and Omiwa Shrine, and there are many important sightseeing spots, so I think it would be a good idea to use it as a base.

I came here to celebrate my birthday at the recommendation of a friend.
I frequented the area often and there was a small sign, so I was curious about it but hadn't looked into it, but my friend went there to celebrate her birthday and she said it was great, so I decided to go here to celebrate my own birthday. I went there.
Very quiet place. I'm sure the stars will look beautiful too. It's not even that rural.
Perfect for relieving the fatigue of the city.
All of the dishes use soy sauce from Maruto Soy Sauce and have an elegant taste.
Personally, I would like a little bit more.
However, the rice (conger eel and soy sauce koji lees) was so delicious that I had planned to take it home as rice balls, but I ate it all and ended up feeling full.
Maybe it was crowded that day, or maybe the food was delivered a little late.
Perhaps because of that, it was quite easy to have a casual conversation in the rare silence.
As expected, it's too close to my home so I can't stay overnight, so I'll be visiting again on our anniversary.

I stayed here on my wedding anniversary.
Although I was traveling with an infant, I was treated with warmth and care in every way, and I was able to spend my time in a very comfortable manner, despite the inconvenience.
I stayed in a wooden room, and while the exterior had the atmosphere of a historic warehouse, the interior was clean and comfortable, and my family of three had a relaxing time there.
The meal was a valuable experience that completely changed the way I valued soy sauce. It's worth staying just to enjoy the truly delicious soy sauce that will make you wonder what real soy sauce tastes like.
If you have the time, I think you should definitely take part in the tours and guided tours where you can learn about the history of Malt soy sauce and the history and culture of the area. It was easy to listen to the story, and I'm really glad that I was able to stay at this inn in Nara, so I enjoyed it and learned a lot from it.
I would like to stay there again when my children are older, and I would highly recommend this inn to my relatives and friends.

One of the best hotel stay experience I ever had! Highly recommend all to book the dinner package along with the hotel stay.
Dinner: Every single dish has their own soy sauce incorporated in it — from sashimi, to fish, vegetable, meat and even dessert.
Room: So well maintained, no dusty corner and the fresh smell of tatami. No mouldy wood at the toilet.

It was a real delight to stay at Nipponia Tawaramoto Maruto Shoyu. The former family house and brewery workrooms have been sensitively transformed into boutique accommodation while preserving beautifully the property's impressive 300 year heritage and soy sauce making traditions. The stay provided precious insights into the lifestyle of a prosperous brewing family, the refined Edo-style architecture of the property (with its decorated alcoves and transoms and garden setting), and the ancient history of this part of central Nara.
The warm, personal hospitality of the 18th generation owner and staff extended from a pick-up and drop-off service, welcoming tea and cake, introduction to the process of making craft soy sauce, and a walking tour of the immediate neighbourhood and local shrine. Breakfast was served in a lovely dining area which successfully integrates modern and traditional design (including comfortable tables and chairs), overlooking a traditional Japanese garden unchanged for centuries. Breakfast was delightful and very filling, using local rice and a variety of organically grown produce and fruit served in delicate portions, finished off with a coffee and sweet. It was also a lovely touch to be able to use the soy sauce prepared the day before on the meal.
The comfortable level of heating in the rooms (with the luxurious underfoot feel of heated flooring), the hinoki-wood bath, and thick bedding were also very welcome on a wintry night!
