Daibutsukan

You cannot stay out past 11pm (you have to make a very strong case to stay out past 10 pm. They really don’t want you out). They will lock the doors on you after that time. So if you’re trying to go out to late dinner and drinks or karaoke with friends it’s not possible. Someone came into our room while we were gone and turned off the air conditioning. Maybe this is good for people that like curfews and babysitters, but as a tourist I would not recommend overall. Aside from that, rooms were fine and comfortable with pretty comfy futon beds.

Lovely ryokan in Nara between the Kintetsu station and the park. Stayed for one night and was treated to gracious hospitality, all the staff were kind and welcoming. The building is dated but that adds to the traditional charm.
The staff greets you at the door to take your shoes and provide slippers that you wear while inside (but not into your room). The rooms are clean with tatami mats and are set up with a low table with a tea set, and the room has a small TV as well as a fridge. You are provided with a yukata to wear in the room, during meals and to the sento baths. You sleep on futon mats on the floor and while they are quite firm they are comfortable. The futons for sleeping on were made up while out of the room for the dinner meal.
The dinner was served in a private room across the hall and the food and service were exceptional. The delicious breakfast was served in the same room as dinner but with a second table set up for other guests. All the foods were local and fresh, and while we had no idea what some of it was, it was all very tasty.
The sento baths were very clean and very hot and made for a great first experience with public baths.
They were fine with holding our bags until check in time and for a couple hours after check out while we explored.
Unfortunately the Kofukuji temple pagoda was surrounded by construction scaffolding so it wasn’t visible.
I would recommend a stay here for anyone looking for a ryokan experience while in Nara. Arigatou gozaimasu!

Great Ryokan style hotel in Nara. Perfect location near the park and the onsen/hot tub is amazing after a long day of walking around. The rooms are traditional Japanese style (wooden mats, sleep and sit on pads on the floor, they even give you a traditional yukata to dress in) which is a really cool experience. The building feels a little dated, but that really just adds to the charm.
