Academy Hostel Hostel

When I pictured a hostal, I imagined a somewhat rundown place with double bunk beds and poor rooms. However, I could have not have been anymore wrong when I walked into this clean place. With multiple floors, there are foods and drinks to be found, the big rooms have air-conditioning and have a decent quality in regards to the toilets and the bedrooms itself. The short rules laid out there are reasonable in allowing minimal noises and I have just enjoyed my stay there overall.

Location is perfect. Only downside is they kick you out between 11-2:30 for cleaning. I recommend it for someone wanting to be close to everything. Good spot on the balcony to have some drinks with the other travelers too.

Great location but no security or hot water. Lockers are provided. Anyone can walk into the rooms (no key) and door to the street often unlocked. Had things stolen from my bag while in storage after checkout.

Very good location close to the Duomo. Authentic. Quiet. Comfortable accommodation with breakfast included.
On the other hand, do not be afraid to take sometimes fresh showers…

Nice place to stay in, very close to the city center, you basically can walk anywhere. It's noisy though because it's close to the street, won't recommend this place for light sleepers!

Great staff! Very knowledgeable and helpful. I asked them for local food recommendations and both eateries were lovely. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Bathrooms were surprisingly clean. The building feels safe and secure!

A clean hostel, but a few things about it were a bit weird. I found it a bit pricey, but I'm afraid that's normal for Florence. The breakfast was fairly spartan. The Wi-Fi only worked in the common area. I noticed there were no locks on the room doors or the bathrooms. On a plus side, the hostel was very clean, had only 3 beds per room, and had a nice balcony and common area. There were large lockers provided to secure your things.

Good place to spend the night in Florence for the price. Good location, clean rooms and staff always attentive. The only detail was that the shower does not have very hot water and sometimes it gets cold.

Go to this place if you want cold service, unstable hot water and constantly disconnected Wi-Fi. The staff who took care of the check-in was impatient and hardly helpful at all. The guy has an annoyingly condescending attitude and is not responsive to our request. However the guy who took the night shift was nice enough. The hot water would suddenly turn cold during the shower. And there are even suspicious water drops dripping down from the ceiling near the toilet. The Wi-Fi was simply weak. Curious how the signal couldn’t get through the thin wall that has poor soundproof. In a nutshell, a sketchy hostel to avoid at all costs.

I have has better breackfasts in other hostels. The fact that the mermelades, butter and jams (and individual peaces of poor bread in plastic bags) all come in very small through away plactic containers is for my a low mark in the quality of not only the food but the hostel itself. The cleanliness of the bathrooms does not stand out for being higenic and the hot water in the showers takes a long time to get to a lukewarm temperature. However, the staff are kind and happy to serve, though some more than others.

I don't understand how this place got such good ratings for what they actually offer. First off you need to pay in cash if your amount to pay is under 100 euros. Then when you're about to pay in cash they will ask you to not give them 50s. Because they don't want to give you change for that. Not a big deal but it was irritating for them to demand this because the numerous hostels I've been to may have asked cash only but they had their own change ready as well for that reason. Their Wi-Fi is really frustrating. Constantly disconnects and has low connectivity in rooms especially. You don't have your own outlet by your bed. Your room doesn t even have a lock so if you're charging anything valuable (and conveniently they placed the charging stations right infront of the door) you need to watch it in case for someone to just walk in and take whatever is there for example your phone. And most frustrating thing is they call it "eco-freindly" but I think the eco stands for economically for themselves. Their hot shower/water is eco-friendly heated so it's luke warm. So you're basically shivering in the shower. And the warm water isn't even continuous. You get constant bursts of cold water. And they even say on the sign if you want hoy water let the water run for 1 minute. But how contradicting is that. You say you are eco-friendly but are willing to tell us to let the water run for a minute every single time someone uses the shower.

Great location. They don't let you stay in from 11 till 2:30pm for cleaning. Showers are luke warm at best. Mediocre breakfast.

I love this hostel it's super clean and the staff is super helpful and up 24/7. The guests here are respectful and the location is centrally located.

Great location and helpful staff. Not too many social activities planned. Bathroom in the 4 person dorm gets covered in eater after a shower though. Clean rooms but have to leave between 11 and 230 so they can clean.

Terrible place and terrible experience! I normally do not like to complain at all. But I have to be honest. Myself and ten of my other friends have stayed here for a weekend for three days and on the first night, we found 5 different bugs crawling on our beds. The rooms and bathrooms are extremely small. The shower was broken. Facilities are super old and need a lot of improvement. So we went downstairs to tell the staffs about the bugs, esp. Some of my friends cannot stand bugs in their beds at all. The staffs were quite rude and they did not do anything about it. The next day we decided to change to a different place so we asked our money back for the nights we won't stay. But the staffs insisted that it's their policies and we will not get one cent back and there is no way we can change to different rooms. For the terrible service and the condition of this hostel, 35 Euros per person per night is really not worth it! My friends and I strongly recommend DO NOT COME TO THIS HOSTEL! Terrible!

Really nice vibe, the staff are really helpful with where to eat and party. The receptionist recommended us a jazz bar and then showed up there after a while so that was really fun.

The location is good, but one of the staff in the reception was awful and so rude. I didnt do wrong but he treated me so badly with no reason. Im so upset and disappointed in such city named 'tourist attraction'. In addition, the blanket was full of someones' hairs… Furthermore, Wifi is not working well. Last, the heating system doesnt work at all in the room even in such cold weather. Please reconsider in booking this hostel. I want to receive the apology from the staff seriously.

4 and a half stars? Seriously? The male desk staff who does not have mustache is so rude, not helpful and always sighs. Stop sighing to your customers.

Academy hostel is situated at a very good location, not too far from the train station, but most importantly walking distance to all the tourist attractions. This place is super clean, they close the hostel from 11am to 2:30pm to clean. I do understand the need because it's a busy hostel and it would be hard to clean if the guests are there. However, they could explain the rules a bit more nicely. Like the closing is mainly for the common areas only. The staff was still flexible about coming & goings during this time and the reception is manned 24hours. As an example, I was told that I can step out of my single room when the cleaning crew comes. However, while I was out, they only removed the trash in my room, bed was not made and floor was not swept. Overall the common areas are kept very clean. Lockers were provided with padlocks. Room key locked the door. I felt very safe here. The single full bathrooms were a nice plus compared to many people showering all at once in one bathing area. Staff was not too friendly, didn't go out of their way to suggest anything. So I guess they were good enough. However the tall gentleman with a bit lengthy hair was very nice to me. Helped me do my laundry and showed me how to use the machines. I left my backpack in the luggage room, it was untouched. But the receptionist asked me to put my valuables in a small locker & lock it with a key. Overall for 26 euro a night for a single room during off season was a great deal I felt.

A lil expensive, but that's in between the range of prices that you find in Italy. Anyway it's a great hostel, very clean, cosy environment, the ppl who work there are really nice and friendly, the bathrooms are clean. Free breakfast, free snacks and drinks, free Wi-Fi. Gotta love it!

Just got back from a trip there and it was first-rate. The rooms were all clean and you have your own area. No bunk beds. They do a 630 happy hour free wine thing and its a great opportunity to meet the fellow travelers. I would absolutely recommend this hostel and plan on going to it again next time I am in Florence.
