Palazzo Viceconte

Although the hotel was nice, a very unfortunate event made the whole stay very disconcerting. My wife and I were told that we should drive to the hotel and park in the hotel courtyard. Instructions were sketchy and we got lost on the way there. A year or so later we received a fine for driving in a non-authorized zone. When I tried to explain to the Italian law firm that was trying to collect the fine that the hotel had told us to drive through this zone and that they had provided the Matera police with our tag number, copying the hotel, I kept getting negative reactions and now I owe more than double the amount. A US collection agency is pursuing me on this for payment. The hotel staff is at fault and I find it unhelpful and discourteous that the hotel did not deign to help me on this matter even though I copied the hotel on all my correspondence with the police and their lawyer. So, don’t go to the Hotel Palazzo Viceconte, they do not deserve to be in a beautiful city such as Matera!

Great location with wonderful views.
The hotel is very much in need of updating to make it more user friendly.
It is an absolutely gorgeous building.
We had a junior suite which was basically a big room with a settee in it.
There was only electric points to one wall so there was battery bedside lamps, mine never worked.
The bathroom was large with an over bath shower, the water was only just warm, when I asked about it I was told it was a requirement to have it temperature controlled, this was my 7th hotel in Italy and all the others managed to have hot water!
The towels were thin and just adequate.
Breakfast was with terrific views but was at small tables with uncomfortable chairs, little choice and our worst breakfast of all the places we have stayed.
On check in we were advised to use the rooftop bar for drinks with fabulous evening views of Matera only to find it closed for the whole time of our stay.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
The car park is very difficult to get to and includes driving through heavily pedestrianised tourist areas, with narrow roads and a tight turn of palazzo duomo.

We have just arrived to this location, and we are breathless about the beauty of this place. Words cannot describe how impressive Palazzo Viceconte is.

By mistake, we booked Palazzo Viceconte in Matera and it was by far the best choice. We had a suit and a junior suit for our family, and we were astonished to receive 3 royal rooms. The staff was extremely friendly, eager to help no matter the problem. We served breakfast on the third floor teracce with breathtaking view of the city.
We highly recommend the hotel, and we are hoping to go back.

The location of this hotel was perfect and the views were amazing for touring Mayera. However, what really made this trip so enjoyable for me, were the staff in the hotel. They were outstanding and could not do enough for us. In particular Dilleta and the other lady (with dark hair) on the desk were so friendly and at the same time very efficient.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We will be back.

What a splendid Renaissance palazzo, renovated to the highest standards! We spent 2 nights here — great location (we didn’t have a car be sure to get directions if you do) and the staff were extremely helpful. Lovely breakfast, quick turnaround on laundry and our room had a beautiful view of Matera.

What a splendid Renaissance palazzo, renovated to the highest standards! We enjoyed a junior suite with a private staircase to the rooftop. Dusk from the roof terrace was magnificent with the lights of Matera coming on. Staff was very friendly and so helpful. Ahmed helped me find our car when we were misled on directions with our navigation systemTatiana made a dinner reservation for us at Annina’s, which turned out to be our best meal in Puglia. The gentleman with West Virginia connections guided us out of the courtyard parking, which though pricey, was invaluable. Breakfast in the elegant dining room had great service and a wide choice of options including fresh fruit. The walk through the first floor rooms to arrive at the breakfast will forever be memorable—stunning art, architecture and furniture. We are only sorry that our stay wasn’t longer.

The definitive location in all of Matera is Hotel Palazzo Viceconte. It starts at the entrance into the Hotel. There is the most attentive employees that are working with dedication and pride to make your stay illustrious. I would like to highlight Antonello for taking the time to highlight all the grand locations to visit during our stay in Matera. Also for masterfully driving my car into the hotels parking lot because I was struggling and needed help. I would also like to highlight Carmella for going out of her way and allowing us to borrow her umbrella so we wouldn’t get wet during the crazy rainstorm. The entire staff from the breakfast attendant to the sweet and wonderful cleaning lady were so kind and keen sense of attention to detail.
We will definitely return to Matera and no doubt stay at Hotel Palazzo Viceconte again.

It's incredibly beautiful. The interior architecture that worked on it is really good. The terrace on the 3rd floor with a view of the city. And above all, above all, the visit of the furnished palace on the way to have breakfast!

We were made to wait a month for no reason, and have not had the foresight to respond. Exemplary behaviour.
