This Hotel is a gem of historic architecture and relevancy. It’s lovely and beautiful to stay in. Cozy and charming. The beds are super comfortable and the staff go out of their way to be welcoming, helpful and friendly. For history enthusiasts and those who value tradition, history and culture this is a must. Built in 1910 by the Sarkies brothers, the same who built the world renowned Raffles Hotel in Singapore, built the Majapahit. Wonderful place. We felt at home and loved staying there.

Dear Management we would express our full satisfaction during our stay in december 2025. Everything was perfect and exactly as we expected. We especially thank the staff at the INDIGO restaurant. I highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates classic architecture, art, and history all at once!
Living in this iconic heritage building for 4D3N was truly an unforgettable experience. Every inch of it echoes stories from past decades. It almost feels like you’re being transported back in time, you can easily imagine people from the old days walking through these elegant halls.
All the staff were very kind and helpful, and they even assisted me in learning more about the building. As usual, a welcome drink was offered. I stayed in one of the suite rooms located at the back of the hotel, overlooking the garden. It came with a private terrace, a living room, an office, and a classic-style bathroom. Everything felt so authentic and timeless.
Around the hotel, especially along Tunjungan Street, you’ll find many other heritage buildings, cafés, and restaurants with similar colonial charm. You can enjoy a relaxing stroll along Tunjungan, which is one of the most famous areas for both locals and tourists. Every year on Indonesia’s Independence Day (17 August), a special celebration is held here, with a parade that ends right in front of this historic hotel, which played an important role in Indonesia’s road to independence.
For those who are not hotel guests, there is an official hotel tour available, which I think is a great initiative. Due to the hotel’s historical value, access is very limited and strictly monitored.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Majapahit and truly appreciated the exceptional hospitality. As an Accor Platinum member, we were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to a beautiful suite, which made our stay even more special.
The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive from the moment we arrived, always greeting us with genuine smiles and making us feel at home. The hotel itself is a stunning historical building, full of charm and character, beautifully maintained and rich in heritage.
The breakfast buffet has lots of variety and the staff were very attentive.
The facilities were excellent, the gym is well equipped, and the jacuzzi were a perfect way to relax after a day out. The peaceful atmosphere combined with classic elegance makes this hotel truly stand out.
Overall, a memorable and enjoyable stay. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates history, comfort, and outstanding service.

Oudated facilities provided. Unsafe iron provided. Considering the cost, you may want to opt for modern hotel with same price. But if you are looking for heritage vibes and dont mind on the outdated facilities, Majapahit is the ideal place. Staff are great anf hospitality was superb. Including the location.

I enjoyed it thoroughly, my stay last night (Xmas Eve). I was super lucky as I got upgraded with no extra charge from the classic type to the heritage suite.
I made an extra purchase at the hotel for the dinner buffet. The grilled seafood and others (e. G. Beef and chicken satays) were superb. Breakfast was also good. The ROOM — I could live there!

Andini gave us an excellent historical tour of the hotel. She walked us through some of the rooms where famous people stayed and was great about pointing out interesting aspects of the hotel's architecture. Our tour took about 30-45 minutes, but she let us know that she could easily cater the length of the tour to suit our needs. The staff was also very flexible about scheduling the tour: their normal time slots were at 1 and 4 pm, but they offered to give us one at other times (like 11 am or 3 pm) to suit our needs. The afternoon tea was great fun and came with a delightful mix of snacks and cakes. All the food at this hotel is amazing, and the small bites served with tea were no exception. My only disappointment was with the macaroons served with the tea; they were too overcooked (all crunchy and not chewy on the inside like a macaroon should be). Overall, we had a great experience at this hotel and with the history tour + afternoon tea combo.

This is a fabulous hotel with a rich history, a dedicated and professional staff, and phenomenal food. We stayed here for 3 nights, and the every experience was excellent.
The rooms are spacious, clean, and have beautiful bathrooms. We had a balcony view of the courtyard that was great. The rooms seem very soundproof; we were never bothered by outside noises. The whole experience felt luxurious, and the staff were communicative and professional through every part of the experience. The location is also great as it is on a lively street and a short walk from the Saturday evening food market.
I highly recommend eating the hotel breakfast and/or ordering in from the hotel. I have high standards for rawon, and I found their's rich and flavorful (and better than other rawon I've had in Surabaya! ) The tahu tek was also great; Surabaya is known for their shrimp paste sauce and it was a great pairing for the tofu… just be careful about the amount you use though as my caucasian father found it a little too strong and shrimp-flavored for his liking, The breakfast had many options. They can make lattes or cappuccinos for you, fry up eggs however you like, and they can plate your meals if you want the perfect photo. The croissants were beautiful and properly made. The soto was very flavorful. They also had an incredible range of different sambals to try.

Returning to Hotel Majapahit in 2025 felt like coming home to a place full of charm and history. From the moment we stepped inside, the grandeur of the lobby once again wrapped around us — the elegant wood accents, the classic furniture and the nostalgic atmosphere that makes this hotel truly unique.
Check-in was smooth and friendly, just as we remembered. Our room was spacious and spotless, with a view of the beautiful North Garden, where we enjoyed the serene atmosphere. Breakfast at the Indigo Restaurant continues to be a pleasant mix of Asian and European dishes, served buffet style with courteous and attentive staff. We again took our time there, enjoying the slow start of the day and watching life unfold outside.
A small point for improvement this year: the curtains in our room could offer better blackout. For light sleepers, this would increase comfort even more.
Special mention goes to the service desk, who handled everything with professionalism and warmth, and to the persons who cleaned our room, whose work was absolutely excellent. Also a warm compliment to the men at the front door, always service-oriented, helpful and ready with a friendly greeting, they set the tone every time we left or returned.
Hotel Majapahit remains one of the most memorable places we have ever stayed, and even with a few minor points for improvement, it fully deserves our score of 9.

Great place to stay in this heritage and classic hotel. Hotel are well located along Jln Tunjungan surrounded by cafe and restaurant. It’s near to Tunjungan Plaza and Jln Genteng Besar for Oleh2.
The hotel Itself are beautiful with Great garden.

We stayed there with my wife and little girl. We're amazed by the design and room decor of this hotel. Thanks to the management for keeping this historical hotel a it is for decades now. We loved every Ingle items in the room: old phone, classic bath tub, wooden colonial furniture and even the building architecture.
Another amazement is that what they offer on the breakfast buffet:
— local bites e. G. Soto, porridge and yellow rice.
— cheese corner.
— bread and pastries section.
— of course choices of coffee n tea.
We didn't see anything to complain about this hotel. We're really looking forward to go back there.

My stay at this hotel was truly unforgettable, a serene oasis amidst the vibrancy of a bustling city. The room was beautifully appointed, offering views of one of the hotel’s meticulously maintained gardens. The staff were exceptional and went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. I was especially impressed by their attention to detail; without needing to request it, they thoughtfully arranged an early takeaway breakfast, knowing I would miss the regular service due to an early morning tour. The meals in the hotel’s restaurant were consistently excellent, with breakfast in particular being both delicious and plentiful.
A special thank you to Ari (I hope I have the name correct) and the entire team at Mahajapit for making my stay so memorable. I sincerely hope to return in the future.

We stayed here for four nights and were delighted with our stay. Our Platinum status gave us the complementary breakfast, but we also got complementary afternoon tea as well, which was much appreciated.
The room was very well set up (lovely furnishings), well lit, very spacious and with a very generous bathroom. The hotel is lovely to walk around in, and admire the various artifacts and appreciate the history, with beautiful and well maintained gardens.
We had a drink in the pub, and had a dinner in the restaurant. The food and service were exemplary.
But the best aspect of this property are the staff, right from senior management to all all the people we interacted with. Always friendly, always helpful, and always smiling. And that's what made it a great stay.
If ever again in Surabaya, this is where we will stay!

Very historic hotel. Beautiful grounds. Interesting breakfast options. Loved the welcome drink so much, I had to go buy some to take home. The room amenities somewhat dated but I guess that’s the charm. Enjoyed our stay n would recommend.

We have made a great decision to visit Surabaya again this time after great experience with Majapahit Hotel back in 2019.
This iconic historical hotel is well maintained. Hats off to Mr Kahar Salamun, the General Manager whom successfully leads the team to make the hotel even better after Covid hit the world.
Very humble yet professional General Manager is the key to make guests feel welcome and enjoying their stay. As it will drive the team to work happily and eventually having the sense of belonging.
So many great staff welcoming us, starting from the security team, the FO team, Natan, Anna, Reynaldo, Rama, to the Restaurant team, Faris, Anna, Galih, Dedy, Yoga, Annisa, and Concierge Agus whom also helping us back in 2019.

Stayed in Majapahit in my first ever visit to Indonesia, it is a fantastic hotel that is rich with Surabaya's history and culture; staff members are absolutely fantastic, very helpful and hospitable, willing to take the further steps towards helping out creating comfortable environment; we booked one of the level one rooms, spacious reflecting European styles — oh yes also provisioned with bidets. Food is excellent and the hotel accesses a main street, that is next to the largest shopping complex with lots of hustle and bustle. Certainly, I would recommend it to travellers, especially those are new to Indonesia.
